On The Way
For You"Fifty points if I can hit that inflatable air dancer on crack looking thing."
"Jiae please don’t," Jisoo turns to her girlfriend in concern, "I think that's a real person."
"What? Who the heck stands in the middle of the road doing-" Jiae was at a momentary loss of words for the indescribable sight of waving body parts, "-that."
Although Jisoo did have to agree on that point she still disapproved of the idea. "I still don't think you should hit it with your car."
Jiae waves the concern off and speeds up, "It's fine. You worry too much."
"Why are you trying to hit it though?!"
"I told you fifty points!"
"Fifty points towards what?!"
"Fifty points towards my driving skills like in a video game!"
"It doesn't work like that in real life! You're joking right?!"
As they argued over the details of the points Jiae was insistent on, neither paid mind to the supposed inflatable air dancer on crack, who really was a girl that made a quick dive out of their car's way.
"I'm pretty sure you almost ran someone over," notes Jisoo as she turns her head back to check, finding relief when she saw it was still an empty road behind them devoid of any possible road kill.
"No I didn't," although Jiae does slow down just a bit, "Besides there weren't any street crossings, pedestrians shouldn't be jaywalking. Plus if I ran anyone over then the road would have gotten real bumpy."
"Mmm, if you say so." Jisoo replies warily before pulling up the directions to the beach on her phone again, "Next street, take a left."
"Gotcha." Jiae swerves a left narrowly missing the streetlight pole on the corner of the road.
"No! Not now! I said next street!" screeches Jisoo as she desperately holds on to her seatbelt, "I thought you said you passed your driving test with flying colors, that's why we're celebrating with a trip to the beach!"
"I did," Jiae grins, pleased with her accomplishment, "On my third and final attempt."
"Oh my gawd," Jisoo stared in horror at the road before her as Jiae continued merrily driving, "Please tell me you have insurance."
"Car insurance?"
"No, life insurance."
"…Probably?"
Jiae was a moderately fine driver. Well, without all the mishaps, constantly going over the speed limit, other drivers honking at them on occasion and possibly missing a few stop signs along the way. Oh, and Jisoo yelling "Watch out!" every five minutes instead of the directions they needed…
But all that aside they were relatively close to their desired location with everything still intact and that was all that mattered at this point. Jisoo was also pretty sure that being only within a few miles of the beach Jiae couldn't possibly get lost or run into anything with her car so a light conversation with her lovely girlfriend shouldn't be a problem. In all honesty, Jisoo would have switched out with Jiae as the driver but every time she so much as hinted towards
