“Busy packing your bags?” there he was leaning against the wall as he watched me pack my bag.
“In case you forgot, we’re leaving tomorrow. ” I rolled my eyes as I resumed packing.
“Yes, I know missy and that’s just sad. I have no one to tell about my swordfish dreams and my addiction to badminton.” He folded his arms as he pouted.
“Oh my god, what an eyesore. Stop that.” I cringed upon seeing him in that manner but truthfully, it was adorable.
“But I’m serious, we won’t have our late night rendezvous in Turkey anymore, no more helping refugees with Miss Lee Jieun, no more watching her cringe when I sweet talk. That’s sad stuff.” He knelt beside me.
“We can always call? Or text? Maybe skype even. Stop being a kid, Jaehyung and go pack your bags.” I shooed him out of my room.
“Fine. Fine. But you know what? The organizer allowed the volunteers to wander around near by malls for today before we depart tomorrow. So…. You want to? You know? Umm” He paused a bit.
My eyebrows get all scrunched together, “You want to invite me to dinner? Yeah sure.”
“Oh.. Then that’s cool.” And he walked away still confused. What a dork. A cute one at that.
“So where do you want to go?” We walked the streets near to where we stay. The organizer of the whole programme didn’t let us wander that far so we had our options limited.
“How about the seafood restaurant near the beach? I like beaches.” I suggested.
“I like how the tide in the oceans rise and how the the moon shines bright like over them.”
“Then, the beach it is.”
Everything went well. We selected our dishes and waited for the food to be served.
“So tell me is it weird to have sword fishes in my dreams, Miss Lee the professional psychologist, you should know better?” Jaehyung asked.
“Well it depends? Maybe you could be crazy even, I need to analyse your behaviour even more to know the answer.” I looked over and saw that he was trying not to smile.
“You know you remind me of someone. And the weirdest thing is his name ends with a ‘hyung’ too. His name is Taehyung and we promised to visit Turkey together for this volunteering programme but it's a shame he couldn’t since he’s too busy. You two could have been best friends. And he even love kids, just like you.” Somehow remembering Tae, I felt like somebody was poking my heart with a cold metal rod.
I missed him. But knowing that I would see him tomorrow turned my frown into a smile. 10 days away from him. That’s hard. Even for a 27 year old lady.
“I assume he’s someone special?” He looked back and forth to the table and back at me.
“Yeah, we’re best friends since forever.”
“I see.” He nodded. “Maybe I’ll meet him one day.”
“Maybe you will.”
“Yes mum, I’m coming home today. I took time off from work for 2 days; today and tomorrow.” I said. My mum sounded excited upon knowing I finally am coming home. It’s hard for her not to see her only son often at home. I wish I could visit more but sometimes duty calls and I need to go. Being doctor isn't the easiest job in the world.
“And yes mum, I’m picking Jieun up tomorrow.” I insisted. “And mum, I love you. I’ll arrive in a few minutes.”
It was late in the night. Around 10pm, the weather has been getting more chilly as the day goes by due to the monsoon season. And it’s only rain and yet it’s as if we’re experiencing winter in Singapore. It felt as if the cold was wrapping around my car even with the air conditioner was at it’s lowest. I must imagine how Jieun’s doing in Turkey? Is she keeping herself warm? I hope she’s not having sudden asthma attacks. Me not being there just makes me even more paranoid at times.
As I drove past the hospital, I saw a familiar figure. I k
