The warmth of the sun’s rays hitting Jin’s face woke him up.

It still felt cold inside, but as he looked up, he immediately knew it wasn’t his room since the ceiling and the walls looked different, and by now, he could obviously tell if it was his room or not, but this one wasn’t, and just that thought made his heart jump somehow. Not a second later, he became aware of how the blankets were placed over his body, and a body right next to him. Scratching his eyes, he then noticed an arm wrapped around his waist, and as his eyes scanned the arm that was holding him even tighter, bringing him close, he also noticed how their legs were tangled up beneath the sheets like vines. As Jin’s eyes went up to see whose arm that was, whose legs those were, it only led to one answer, and that answer made his heart jump out of his chest this time, as he gazed at the person right next to him, amazed, because this was a beautiful sight, and his stomach flipped and he swallowed the lump in his throat because he shouldn’t be feeling like this early in the morning.

He still couldn’t believe what he had done last night.

Just as Jin was trying to forget what happened just a few hours earlier, the thoughts came rushing in like a tidal wave, and it hit him so hard, knocking him off his feet.

As Jin woke up in the middle of the night, feeling so warm as he felt someone’s breath tickling his neck, he looked down just to see Taehyung fast asleep, his eyes shut, a small smile gracing his lips. His younger brother was hugging him so tight, his body pressed up against his, his hand on Jin’s chest, gripping on his shirt as if telling him not to go, telling him not to leave him alone – not to leave him alone like how he was, before they were brothers. Taehyung was alone weeks ago, but Jin couldn’t believe this angel was right next to him now, making him feel crazy because his heart ached just seeing his younger brother’s beautiful features, smiling like that, and it just seriously hurt. Taehyung just made him breathless.

Remembering that he stormed in Taehyung’s room a few hours ago, taking the blankets off of him, he now felt extra warm as he figured Taehyung got the blankets once again, shielding both of them from the cold, and as Jin smiled at the thought, he brought Taehyung closer to him, wrapping both of his arms around his brother, wanting to protect him from the chilly night, from the cruel world, from everything.

Jin just wanted to protect Taehyung.

Feeling his older brother hugging him close made Taehyung shut his eyes open, eyes blinking slowly to adjust to the darkness. He looked at Jin who was still placing his hands around him, his eyes closed as he tried to drift off to sleep once again. Eventhough it was dark outside, Taehyung silently thanked God for the moonlight as it landed on them, making him see Jin’s features perfectly – his long eyelashes, his pink, plump lips, his well-defined jawline. The small smile that was on Taehyung’s face turned into a bigger one, and he couldn’t help but break the silence.

“Jin hyung…” he said, his voice a little hoarse from sleeping. “Hello,” he continued, a sheepish grin plastered on his face this time. That made Jin open his eyes to look at him, and he couldn’t help but chuckle, thinking Taehyung was being so adorable right now, greeting him in the middle of the night. Taehyung was a little weird, but that’s what made him Kim Taehyung, and Jin liked this – he liked his weird personality.

“Hello to you, too,” Jin replied, still smiling. “You’re saying ‘hello’ to me when you’re supposed to be sleeping,” he continued, making Taehyung laugh. “Now sleep. You need it,” he said, worried that Taehyung will go all sleepy mode on him later, and though that thought was a bit cute, Jin was still concerned. He still needed Taehyung to rest.

“You’re too nice to me that I don’t want to sleep again,” Taehyung looked at Jin’s eyes, hoping this message would get to his brain. It needed to. “I’m worried that if I sleep again, you won’t be like this anymore,” Taehyung continued, saying the words slowly so they would really etch in Jin’s brain. He wanted to stay like this forever, with his brother holding him close, with him feeling safe, secure. Taehyung wanted his only brother to protect him from pain, loneliness, and everything else that was dark and dangerous – everything that would the soul out of him.

He hasn’t felt this complete in forever.

“I’m afraid that if I wake up, this would all be a dream. I still think it is. I still think this is a dream...because it’s too good to be true,” his younger brother said, his voice trailing off in the dark, and Jin just wanted to tell him that he shouldn’t worry, that he would still be here in the morning, but Taehyung continued to put his thoughts out there. “When the first sign of daylight comes, when the first rays of sunshine come, don’t try to disappear.”

The fact that Taehyung was saying ‘Don’t try to disappear’ instead of ‘Please don’t try to disappear’ made it clear that he really was serious, and he didn’t want Jin to leave him before he even wakes up. He didn’t want to wake up to a cold and empty bed – he wanted to wake up to him, his older brother, Jin, beside him, in his arms, warm, safe and secure.

He needed his brother.

Taehyung didn’t want to feel empty again.

He couldn’t stand being alone. Never again. Not after he lost his parents.

“I…” Jin didn’t know how to respond. He never knew Taehyung needed someone this much. He never knew Taehyung needed someone to hold him in their arms this much. Taehyung was still breaking inside, he knew it. “Taehyung, I won’t leave you. When you wake up, I’ll be the first thing you see.”
