elaboration i think i've already elaborated enough that justin is the dad of viva rock, so let's just get on with it and say, yes. justin is caring, he looks out for everyone in his team and he makes sure everyone eats enough, sleeps enough etc. justin is super responsible when it comes to his kids. he's also really lenient with his kids and lets them do whatever they want, but will rein them in if they get too rowdy. sometimes he relies on the mom of the group (if there's one) to stop the members from acting out too much, but otherwise the members, mostly because they love him too much, don't really do enough to warrant a headache. if they're too much trouble though, justin will get mad. and when he gets mad, well, no one wants to see him get mad. 

 

with how chill he is though, don't get justin wrong. while he does look out for everyone, he's also a highly ambitious individual who strives for perfection. though he's super lenient with s in the dorm, once they step into the studio or dance practice room, dad justin becomes stern mentor justin. he doesn't get mad at anything per se, but he becomes extremely picky and nitpicks through every single mistake or fault the members may or may not be making. thank god he's patient and willing to walk the members through their paces, but watch out for stern mentor justin. 

 

with how hard he's on others, it's probably not surprising that justin is even harder on himself. as leader, he couldn't be the one who stays behind and practically sleeps in the goddamn dance practice room, so he makes sure to throw in extra work in the middle of water breaks or even during mealtimes in the YG canteen. yeah, this boy is definitely hardworking. but because he's so picky about perfection, justin gets insecure really easily. he's definitely the harshest critic of himself, and internalizes every failure of his own team as being his own fault. people often jokes he lives in the practice rooms, and...it's kinda true. (he also wants to extend practice hours, but he has to take the team's energy levels into consideration) 

 

justin is like the dad friend. except he's the cool dad friend, so it makes the whole thing even better. most of the time he doesn't even adopt trainees, the trainees go to him and they just,,,kind of become his children. justin is super friendly, he's friends with anyone and everyone, though maybe not the sarcastic yg line because he just doesn't respond the way they want him to. (sorry hyunnie, he's not an easy victim) anyways, he just adopts everyone. eric finds it kind of funny since he's the maknae of his own family, but yeah. his easygoing personality and super chill vibe just automatically makes people comfortable around him. 

 

he's definitely humble. it's not like he fades to the background with his achievements; he knows his own worth and acknowledges it, but he usually doesn't take the three cheers unless someone pushes him to the front. he also cheers his children on first before taking his own bow. this sense of humble-ness exacerbates his insecurity though, since he lets others take central stage first, which sometimes makes him wonder if he's not good enough. a solo debut would probably fix the problem. *subtle not subtle nudge* 

 

okay but seriously, again, for how chill he is, his perfectionist personality also fuels his competitive streak. justin is usually cool with everything, but once someone challenges him to something, he has to win. of course, in his career he's especially competitive as well, and strives for the crown, but he's also (unsurprisingly) competitive in sports, and (surprisingly) competitive in games. those are probably the few times you see him get even remotely annoyed. so yeah, if you aren't prepared to lose to justin in games, just, don't play with him. s about this 'weak spot'. 

 

justin is also quite stubborn when push comes to shove. there's a reason that he's the leader of viva rock; while he's the nicest guy in the group, he also won't take no for an answer if yg management decides to them up. if yg won't give them a song to debut? fine, he writes their own. if yg won't give them a choreography to debut? fine, he choreographs it. whatever yg s up, either he makes up for it, or sits his in the office until they compromise. because of his build, justin's rather intimidating as well, so....yeah. just don't mess with him. 

 

i've established justin's diplomatic skills as seen above, so i'll just go further and say that yeah, he's actually kinda manipulative. it's very subtle since he's not that kind of person, but when needed he can nudge people to the direction he wants them to move to. justin's amazing with words, and can slip in a few words here and there to just make you do what he wants. he doesn't use this with his children though, only with useless yg upper management people who doesn't give them a glance, and maybe, sometimes, certain noonas.  

 

background justin is born in atlantia, georgia, usa as the youngest of four sons. he grew up pretty normal, pretty happy, and went through his school years without much trouble. he's your typical perfect asian; good grades, plays sports, plays instruments, probably can cook too, by the looks of it. 

 

he's pretty young compared to the rest of his brothers, so justin kind of grew up as a single child. since a young age he was into music. because eric sings around the house, justin mimics him, and started getting into music as well. he started learning the violin at around nine, joined the school orchestra before realising classical music doesn't really vibe with him. justin then changed to an accoustic guitar at the age of eleven, before being recommended by his teacher to pick up the electrical guitar as well. once he gets into middle school, justin started playing in a band with his friends, and began to dabble in songwriting too.

 

this was around the time when eric debuted in south korea. justin, realising that music wasn't a far-fetched dream, began to further pusue music as a hobby. though he was a basketball player at school, he often stayed behind after practice just to jam a bit longer with his bandmates. yeah, he was pretty popular at school, ngl.

 

timeskip to the age of seventeen. while everyone was discussing heading off to university such as stanford and harvard, justin decided to join eric in korea. they have had more than a few late night conversations, where eric told justin all about the music industry and what kind of world it was, so justin had mental preparation for what might hit him in korea. he turned down a scholarship to princeton, and decided to attend korean university instead, with an applied music + business combined major.

 

while in korea, he decided to live with eric. for a few years he honed his dancing through taking dancing classes before deciding to audition, since he was already a pretty good singer. justin then auditioned for a couple of companies, and was accepted by yg. 

 

likes 

☀ spicy food. he has a high tolerance for spice and he just loves spicy food. three cheers for korea. 

 

☀ he's a dog person, so justin loves dogs. his favourite breed is a german shepherd, but korean apartments really only allows for small dogs, so that's why he has a corgi now 

 

☀ favourite genre of music is r&b. he likes rock too, of course, but r&b is really his go-to. he really wants to collab with lee hi. 

 

☀ korean barbeque. he loves grilling meat and especially eating it wrapped with a lettuce, plus gochujang on top. 

 

☀ popcorn is his go-to snack. he brings like a few bags to practice, and pops a mouthful into his mouth whenever he needs an energy boost. it's bad for the throat though, so he tries not to eat too much, but popcorn. 

 

☀ playing sports. basketball and volleyball is his go-to if he has to take his stress out, though he loves tennis and squash too. justin just goes for long runs in the morning if everyone's still asleep and he needs to clear his head.

☀ long showers. he uses this time to think, go over everything, and just get ready for bed.

☀ for how big of a guy he is, justin loves small and fluffy animals?? like yeah, he's a dog person, but if you need someone to babysit your pet hamster or bunny, you can bet justin is down for it

☀ caffeine. he thinks it's an unhealthy way of staying awake. justin would prefer to wake up early full of energy, thank you. 

 

☀ he can stay awake, but he doesn't like to. justin scolds eric for staying up until 4:30am every day, and threatens to confiscate his netflix if he doesn't rid himself of the habit. 

 

☀ justin eats about everything, but the singular thing he cannot stand is bell peppers. just, no. 

 

☀ anything that makes his neck area itch. chokers are tolerable, but he has to take it off immediately after a stage. he can't stand turtlenecks.

☀ anyone harrasing his children. watch out, weekly idol. but also, he'll literally fight producers or lyricists if he thinks his children doesn't get the appropriate amount of lines they deserve

☀ brass instruments. he had a bad run-in with a dude from the brass section when he was still in the orchestra. he still wants to use them in their songs though, it's not like trauma

☀ waking up early, sleeping early. he ushers the kids to bed latest at 12am, no protest. usually he wakes the kids up around an hour before they need to get out of the house, by shaking them gently. though for the more difficult ones he had used an airhorn once, so...

 

☀ putting his guitar pick behind his ear. he just slots it behind his ear casually during practice when he needs both hands for something. it also makes it less easy to lose, though he would eventually lose it anyways. 

 

☀ taking long showers. he's usually the last member to shower because of this. justin tucks the kids into bed first, then takes his time in the shower. though it can be a bit bothersome if someone wants to use the toilet, but to be honest he doesn't mind. he came from the usa, it's infinitely more casual than korea. 

 

☀ on the days they don't have schedules, justin wakes up at around 5am/6am and just goes out for a morning run. he comes back before the members wake up, and showers, before waking up the members. 

 

☀ counting his kids everytime he herds them out of yg. 

 

☀ his face just naturally breaks out into a big grin near fans or cameras. that's why he's the 'smile angel' of the group. it's just so casual for him

☀ writing music. just producing or composing in general? when he was in school he used to just jam on his guitar for hours and write down whatever comes to mind

☀ justin has three tattoos. one immediately below his right collarbone; you only live once. one at the small of his back; a pisces tattoo because of his birthday. one on the side of his left wrist, a very small one; MMXIII, which is 2013 in roman letters. he claims it's a special year for him because that's when eric debuted, and when he started getting into music. justin plans to get another one on the inside of his right wrist, a tattoo with viva's fandom name on top, and their debut date at the bottom.

☀ jae park: since jae, despite his age, technically does belong to third gen? third-mid gen kpop?? justin feels closer to him than the other people his brother are friends with. with jae, he doesn't feel pressure to take care of him, or to initiate conversation, or just be outgoing. no, justin can just be himself, and the two can just sit there, make music, and basically chill. he loves jae for that reason. they also play among us together sometimes and he just, loses his temper around jae and jae is cool with it

☀ hong taejoon: foreigner gang assemble, speaks english together, not that close but gets along 

 

☀ shin hyunwook: again, steers clear of hyunnie, since he doesn't want to deal with sass. they do speak english to each other, but they aren't personally close. and also hyunnie gets an insecurity complex from being short so he wouldn't plant himself next to justin without any particular reason. 

 

☀ hirai fuyumi: yumi is basically c2c's maknae line, so justin helps yunso a little with  shy fluffballs as well. and yumi is like...a month older than justin anyways, so yeah. he makes sure yumi knows he's there for him if he wants it, and sometimes just feeds yumi spicy food he bought. 

 

☀ jung jaeshik: another yg best friend because american? i'm from america too! jace is younger than justin, so babey alert as well. they hang out quite frequently, and just ditches the honorifics whenever they are (jace is justin's sunbae, and justin is jace's hyung, so if they each ditch one they'll be on equal standing. plus they're both american, and they're more lenient about this. sometimes, if they're working in the same studio, it's possible they may mix notebooks and justin might've grabbed jace's. it had happened before. but yeah, they're super close and collabs on songs together. 

 

☀ arthit disthaapichon: maknae #2, and justin helps yunso with this kid as well. since they both speak english, justin is kind of tai's translator whenever hyunnie isn't there. he also helps feed the maknae alongside masato. he's not tai's favourite, but justin can deal with that. he has four other kids to raise.

 ☀ song yujin: noona #3, justin gets coodles from yujin as well. because they're both sporty, justin sometimes hangs out with meloji playing sports. she also knows eric quite well, so yes, another noona alert. but yeah, they're quite close. 

 

☀ jason shin: my third kid who has a crush on jason. let's admit it, taemin is hot, he is ing hot, and there's no other way to say it. justin finds every single possible way to try and collaborate with jason, because...yeah. why not. anyways, sorry ethan, but if i have a kid who's gonna be boyfriends with jason, it's going to be justin. except ethan isn't his type so it's kinda sad. but they work well together. they actually do. if you manage to get justin focused on his work, he's great with jason. 

 

☀ song yide: both part of foreigner squad, but otherwise not very close to each other 

 

☀ lee haru: justin likes haru's voice. they also love korean bbq together, so that's a plus in their relationship. but he's not that familiar with haru. maybe like 6/10. 

 

☀ han gyeoul: not that familiar with each other either, but whenever the empire/viva squad goes out for food together you'll bet your they eat their fill of beef. 

 

☀ ja daekwan: not close either, sorry 

 

☀ jung taehee: they love yongguk together, and they write songs together. justin is also secretly a little jealous that she's dating yongguk, but if he's happy then justin's happy. he may or may not have gotten a little closer to taehee to try and have a chance to talk to yongguk. they also love b.a.p together. and yeah, justin does collaborate with ila on songs. 

 

☀ jeon junsu: not close either 

 

☀ mook bitna: third member of the scarfing beef down committee in yg along with gyeoul. but personally, not that close. 

 

☀ park daehwan: they have similar personalities, so daehwan and justin gets along. since they're both such big flirts, everyone is subject to their sparks down the corridor. it didn't matter that daehwan has a girlfriend; justin is the one of the few that responds to his flirting, so the two just rocks on. also they have so many similar interests? meat? spicy food? video games? hitting the gym? boi, they're practically best friends. except he doesn't really like standing next to justin, since justin is so goddamn tall and nero...isn't. and yeah, they work together as well. 

 

☀ gook minjin and gook minjae: justin looks out for them but sorry, they're not on his priority list.

training background justin moved to korea to live with his older brother once he hit legal age, in 2016. he took some dancing classes while attending university, all the while playing in the university band. justin likes to keep busy; he juggles class, band practice and dance practice all the while helping out his hyung in his career by giving occasional input in his songs. 

 

in 2017, he got accepted by a few different agencies; yg, cube, cj e&m and b2m, eric's label. he wanted to go to b2m since the safe route would be to be in the same agency as his brother, but eric advised him to aim for the top. so he went to yg. 

 

it's a good thing that his korean is already good when he became a trainee, since we know how yg is concerning foreigners. his singing is great, his dancing is improving, honestly justin is basically a golden trainee anyone would've debuted immediately. but no. yg keeps him in the basement. 

 

since his foundation is so good already, justin decides to mess around with the facilities and people in yg. he decides to try his hand at songwriting (he was originally just a lyricist) and everyone was surprised at how well he did it. he was already writing songs when he was a trainee, so again, super promising trainee. he's basically the asian who's better than you at everything, but since he's also an asian he's extra amazing.

what do you think of the viva project?

'i think...it's a good way to showcase each and every member's unique charms and talents.' *absent-mindedly turning around in his stool, thinking of the answer* 'but personally i don't like the way it's presented as a survival show. it's good that the stakes are high, since everyone is going to be working extra hard, but i feel bad for the trainees who aren't going to make it. especially the yg trainees. i don't think i can handle seeing them unable to make it, while i myself can shine onstage.'

'i've heard how talented the starship trainees are, so not gonna lie, kinda nervous!' *chuckles* 'but otherwise, i look forward to meeting them. art is born through collaboration, right?'

'oh, i'm sure they're all great people. undoubtedly full of talent too.' 

 

if you debut with viva, do you think having trained under separate companies will be a problem with the members:

'...no? everyone comes from different backgrounds in the first place, it'll just take time for them to open up a little. if not, i'll be there. i've had a lot of experience with shy trainees, it's no biggie' *laughs*

'i'm the leader of viva rock. also known as the loudest unit because of our instruments. sorry guys!' *apologetic grin* 

 

how do you feel about being a part of VIVA ROCK?

'to be honest i never thought i would get the chance to play my instruments. like, yeah, i guess i'll compose using them, but never actually standing onstage playing them in front of an audience. i'm still trying to wrap my head around it, haha. but otherwise, as leader, it's fun. honestly, being in viva rock is the best thing that had ever happened to me. i love my kids, i love my job.' *shrugs* 'what more do you want?' 

 

where do you think your unit will rank?

*the easygoing look in his eyes changes* 'first. i won't settle for less, and i'll make sure the kids get what they deserve.' 

 

what is your strongest point?

'uh....' *someone shouts in the back: hyung's nickname is noona killer!* *justin gets super embarrassed* 'yeah, what he said. i guess the fans also really love my smile?' *bursts into a wide eye smile* 'and i don't want to brag, but i can play four instruments. so that, too, i guess.' 

 

what is VIVA ROCK's strongest point? 

'each of the kids have their own charming point, and their strengths. together we're a cohesive unit and we've been practising enough that we know each other's instruments and voices even asleep. so definitely our singing and our instruments.' 

 

each unit will be doing a cover of an empire song, e2w song, OR c2c song before releasing their first track. if you were able to choose, which group would you want to cover?

strength he's most confident in his singing, but his guitar-playing skills would definitely catch people's attention as well 

 

position still main vocals. he's also resident songwriter, composer, producer, lyricist and part-time vocal director of viva. so he's cool with not getting a lead dancer role, but he'll be happy if he could. 

 

preferred concept indie style, the sort that's like, you don't know what it's about, but it's kinda angst, kinda cool, and the concept looks cool as hell. so like dean's vibe. going on a more normal track, he wants to do the yolo type of concept, you know, like bang bang bang? 

 

thoughts on yg oh, he has massive problems with yg upper management. justin has lost track of the amount of times he had to trek up the stairs just to sort out the positions, line distribution, everything he felt was unfair to the kids and all of that bs. honestly, if not for the fact yg gives him so much artistic control for his songs, he would've yeeted out of there ages ago. 

 

thoughts on starship he's not sure about how to feel about starship yet. since he hadn't personally been under the label, he couldn't say for sure. as long as starship gives him control over what he wants to do, he's cool, but otherwise, he doesn't want to change agencies.
