isolation, it's bad

"Who's next to get their release?" The young woman asked, turning to the rest on the table.

"Not that simple." She brushed her checkered plaid, and looked at the six faces of their young girls. She sighed, her mind trying to concoct the 'amazing' release one could muster with their current combination.

"Why, Jisoo?" She wrinkled her nose. If their leader utter a single word with her deep voice, there better be a good reason.

"Just because." Jisoo scanned through the faces. She recognized the blonde one being the younger sister of an idol... Byul? The girl even come to her to show some things she had worked on, but Jisoo must have been distracted by something else, because now she barely remembered a single note from the samples.

But had it her way to make an idol group, she'd love to have more of Byul than the more model-like girls in some of the photos. Their CEO may be confusing, but this isn't really one of those times Jisoo started wondering why she even agreed to get into their one-year contract.

"Maybe... we could start with the vocals? They would be easier to work with." A short-haired woman spoke up. Jisoo didn't remember her name, but she was always around the piano, with trainees singing.

"And they are?"

"I think Ji Shinae is the best among them," the short-haired woman said. "but I was wondering if we could put together Wang Aowen with her."

"Aowen, you good?" Shinae asked, voice laced with concern. Aowen looked a tad bit paler than usual, even after they moved out.

"I'm fine." She said. It wasn't a few days when the two of them came in front of the CEO, and then she said they were going to debut, and then they would release a duet.

Shinae had seen both Hana and Jiyoo's dance video, and she'd heard a lot of things from the other trainees about their dancing. One, Jiyoo is not bad as a dancer, two, the dance duo were even better than expected.

The group had really good dancers, anyways.

Shinae frowned, quietly looking on as Aowen read over the lyrics. The paper was folded and crumpled, the younger's nails imprinting dents all over the smooth, white sheet.

"You sure you don't want a break?" Aowen lifted her head, seemingly surprised. She slowly tilted her head.

"Uhm... pardon?" Shinae realized that her Busan dialect had came out again, and maybe, Yoonbyul's rapid-fire talking had rubbed off on her.

"Sorry! I mean, do you want to take a break?"

"It's okay. I still need more time to practice." Aowen turned back, her face somber. Shinae looked at her watch, and realized it's almost eight p.m. They've been there for three hours.

"But you should be tired. Do you need help with lyrics?" Shinae muttered. Her stomach is empty, she's getting the headache, and she's bored. Very, very bored.

Even the song wasn't very hard. The lyrics just got repeated a few times more, and a few harmonizataions in several sections. She's not bringing her A-game, and even their vocal teacher said it was enough.

"I'm not. You go first. I'm fine." Aowen said, stubborn.

"If you wanna." Shinae shrugged, going out of the room. She pouted over the thought, rubbing her eyes. There's no point in getting around Aowen when she's working hard, and while it may have looked good, it still felt frustrating.

It's probably a bit selfish on her, but the pressure and excitement of debuting really wanted to make her to just fast-forward to their debut date anyways—Hana's always known to be one of the good trainees, and Jiyoo isn't half-bad as a person. Probably. Shinae can't judge.

Shinae wanted to debut, but it's going to be a long, hard journey.

Aowen lowly muttered the lyrics, even as she head back to her home. Nothing sounded worse than the vapid, empty romantic lyrics that she would have no way of knowing how to feel about.

"Don't push me away. Is that how it sounds?" Aowen chuckled bitterly. She remembered the announcement of the debut, and couldn't help but feel very shocked and happy. Probably the happiest news she heard in the longest time? Not that she had heard very good news either.

She's young, probably one of ANMO's youngest trainees. She's Taiwanese, one of the current three, but probably with the worst Korean at first. She's trying her best to get better, but the lyrics still remained a challenge.

So when she heard the news directly, she couldn't help but felt like her body's getting on fire. The idea of singing in front of people, seeing their faces in awe and getting charmed by her, seems quite unbelievable. It's one year of working hard, and now she finally gets what she deserved.

But coming back to the lyrics sheet, Aowen realized that it's still a few months later. Undergoing a year of training pretty much washed out most of the expectations she had about being a singer. Of course, she knew well that there would be much better singers than her, but directly working with them shouldn't be this frustrating.

The brunette—Shinae, she finally knows her name—had sang off the notes super easily, and Aowen felt like she should be able to sing at the same ability, but the prospect of releasing a song seemed to have wracked her ability all over.

Shinae had looked tired, and probably left early. Aowen only sighed, an uncomfortable feeling tugging her heart. There's the quiet, dark feeling as she saw Shinae belted the notes easily, going between pitches without a problem. ANMO has their share of good singers, but Shinae shines through.

Aowen sighed. She worked hard to get somewhere, desiring to achieve her dreams, but it's far from easy when there's so many people better than her. She doesn't want to be weak.

She can do all these things on her own. Slowly, but she would be. On her own.

Right?
