the wolf's grandmother

"Hi." Jiyoo lazily lifted her head up, and saw Hana looking back at her, smiling widely. She gave a curt smile, only almost enough for Hana to make a little nod back.

"Tired?" Jiyoo stared at Hana blankly, and then at their reflection in the huge mirror right in front of them. ANMO's practice room hadn't changed much since she went away for the past one week; but at least the floors looked like it just got polished, and her feet was itching to slide all over it with her feet.

No, not that done with dancing, not just yet.

"Maybe." Hana nodded, and bent down to sit next to her. Jiyoo raised her eyebrows, and possibly, in Hana's eyes, shifting at least a few inches away from her, but the older didn't want to think too much about it.

"How's your mini-break?" Hana said.

"It's okay." Jiyoo only remembered the week as going by really fast; she said hi to her parents on the phone, and then went a bit off to try the tiny kazakh restaurant in Seoul. Probably visited some nice coffee shops around too, but even she didn't know the details.

"Oh. But it was still quite nice?" Hana said. There's a little concern in her tone, and Jiyoo gently turned away from Hana's sight.

"I guess. Aren't you busy?" Jiyoo sighed. Hana's face contorted to a sympathetic smile, and Jiyoo's head turned even more. There's this pressure in her chest when she looked at it, and it made her skin a little more irritated than usual.

"It's the day before trainees would start training again, so I came here. And for you?" Jiyoo's mind wandered back to her phone, and to the text message. It's phone number was completely foreign to her, but it's not like there's a lot of contacts on her side.

Hello Jeon Jiyoo.
This is Jung Jaebin, from ANMO.
Please meet the CEO in her office at 3 p.m., and although your holiday hasn't ended yet, please do come.
P.S. Don't tell anyone else about this message.

"Nothing." Jiyoo shrugged. She looked at the digital clock on her phone, and it's almost three. She sighed.

After the evaluation days and before the week-long holiday, the rumours about trainees evaluation results started spreading everywhere. Combine this with the other rumour about debuting a girlgroup, everyone's guessing who's going to be in the lineup.

Her name wasn't exactly mentioned positively. She's one of those who would be on a 'pack-your-bags' section, along with other trainees who weren't exactly known for their talent. Being called to the CEO's office could only mean so much.

Hana though, was a very different case. She's a good dancer, decent rapper, and could be a make-up artist if she wanted to. She was the ace in the evaluations, and could have been in YG's 'it' girlgroup, but she declined.

Jiyoo shook her head. She's not aiming for big compliments from the coaches, but slowly, there's a that pressure in her chest, and wondered if she's ill.

"I'll go first." The digital clock started moving up to three,  and Jiyoo didn't want to waste anymore of her time.

But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Hana standing up too.

"Where are you going?" Hana saw the clock on her phone, and her eyes looked on, alert. Jiyoo had closed the door, and it shouldn't be hard on the older to just go outside and to the tiny room at the top of the building, punctuality be damned.

Hana bit her lips for a bit. She hoped that didn't affect the meeting. She just had to walk to the elevator, and then she'll be on the office in no time.

Just like they said. She still scratched her head when she heard the message, but there's not much she could do about it. Everything about the one-week holiday also sounded quite weird to her, but again, she couldn't change that decision. It's a good break too.

The elevator number rose up to three, and Hana held her breath. She's only a few steps away from a dark mahogany door. It stood ominously, and Hana felt as if there's a negative void, lurking quietly behind the door. Being fearful could make her think weird things.

Hana shook her head. She gently pushed the door, and nearly reveled back when she saw everyone.

"Jiyoo?"

"Kim Hana?" The deep, clean-cut contralto snapped her out, and she turned to the source of the voice. The figure sat quietly behind her desk, unbothered with Hana's increasingly bewildered face

"Wait... I'm confused. You are the CEO, right?" Hana said. She wanted to make it loud and clear, but only a barely audible whisper came about.

"It's alright. You haven't missed out anything here." The woman said, smiling. Hana slowly stepped back, and saw their vocal coach, choreographer, and a few other staffs she's never seen before. One of them even had a hoodie over their face, but Hana's really not curious.

"So, if it's not already quite obvious for you, ANMO Entertainment has decided to debut a new girlgroup around this October or November. Your manager would be Jung Jaebin, who's contacting you around," The woman said, pointing to a man just behind the girls.

"The tracks should be ready by the end of this week, and you will start recording afterwards. Prepare well."

And then, silence. Unsolicited, unknown,  unclear, as if it's just going to be that way. The girls looked around each other and the other staffs, but it only became apparent to Hana, of anyone, that she wasn't dreaming.

"Wait," Jiyoo said. "does this mean that we're... debuting?"

"Yes, if it wasn't obvious," Aeran said. "you will be debuting very soon. All eight of you, without a single exception. Positions would be determined at later date. Also, I almost forgot about this; teasers woud be out by the end of September, starting from you and Kim Hana."

"What kind of teasers?"

"Something that focuses on your talents, quite close to that," Aeran said. "Heeyeon said that you both are quite good at dancing, so I'd like to see a collaboration on that."

Hana stared, mouth slightly open. She turned to Jiyoo, whom, in all of the months she'd seen her around, looked just about off her icy facade.

"We're debuting." Hana said, breathlessly.
