My EYK Rant and a Suggestion

Ever since that effin EYK tweet was posted, the one thing that had relieved my stress, that brought me a little bit of joy (and some great friendships), has been locked away and removed from my sight.

I'm not much of a fic writer (I write technical reports for a living) but since joining the fandom I've become more than a little obsessed with fan fic. For those of you to whom I've reached out either by comments or messages, your works have truly moved me. And I read. A lot. Nearly every day.

I'm currently acting as beta for four writers and take pleasure and pride in helping those talented souls who somehow find the time in their busy lives to create fantastic fiction.

So this barrier to fic that has been erected, while I fully understand and appreciate it, completely annoys and frustrates me. I want to scream at Simon & Martina (and potentially at their silly pets), "WAE YOU GO AND MESS WITH MY LIFE, YOU PABOS?!!!! LEAVE US THE FCK ALONE!!"

Now I know that this outburst will not solve the problem and will only be momentarily satisfying, but I still want to do it anyway. But what I really want to say is this:

We are fangirls (and boys) and we're used to overcoming ridiculous obstacles in honor of our idols. We are strong because of this. We are fierce and proud and we shouldn't be cowering in fear of two badly-dressed and ill-mannered Canadians. (No offense to Canadians in general).

If they want to fcuk with us, we can simply ruin them by our sheer numbers. This latest stunt will likely damage them, but we can take it further by shunning them in the fandom.

They are the ones who should be afraid of us, not us of them.

Thank you for your time.

Everyone knows that if EYK get their hands on some of the fanfics they're going to tear them apart, regardless of the quality. It's really upsetting. Furthermore, a lot of idols watch their videos. Fanfics are supposed to stay WITHIN THE FANDOM.

people were already hating on them a lot, but this has only made things worse. I used to be a fan of them and I used to watch all their videos, but to me they have gotten less and less amusing and more and more offensive. with what has happened this last week or so (the fanfiction thing as well as the thing I witnessed when they reblogged a post from one of their "haters", which was basically like telling their fans to go get her), I've really lost a lot of respect for them... especially after reading up on them. this fanfiction thing has damaged them a lot. I wish they'd just scrap the idea altogether.

I agree with this 100%. I've never really followed EYK and I don't like them at all. Unfortunately, I live in Korea so I do watch their how-to videos from time to time (like the one for turning on floor heating, which is really complicated in my apartment OTL) but I don't watch their kpop videos. And for good reason, too. I thought people were going nuclear when they pulled their whole BAP=B*tch *ss p*ussies. But even then, I could sort of look past it because eh, it's just their opinion and whatever. But this fanfic thing really crosses a line. I agree with you. I feel like we should take a stand and really get them to understand that they can't mess with the fandom like this.

Hi! /waves/ i always love getting comments from you so it's kinda nice to be able to leave you one for a change :) Does it seem like writers are cowering in fear of Simon and Martina? I can't speak for other writers, but in my case, it's because I just don't want to have *anything* to do with EYK and their badly dressed hosts and not because I'm scared of them otl. I doubt anyone would even link any of my fics as a fave but at the same time I don't want to take the risk so it's easier to just lock my fics. This doesn't affect any of my current readers anyway as long as they're subscribed. Some writers I know deactivated temporarily because they just have too many fics posted and it would have taken too much time and energy to lock each one.

Having to take such measures is upsetting for both writers as well as readers. I have never liked the idea of limiting access to my fics so this is not something I do lightly. And I do it mainly because I don't want to risk having one of my fics put up for ridicule by two individuals I can't stand. This whole EYK situation is a pain in the tbh and I hope they just drop the idea quickly so we can get back to our lives. I know there are many fics I'm reading and plan to read which I can't access anymore bc the writer has deactivated ugh. So readers and writers are all facing the same frustrations too lol.

Anyway thanks for making this post! I now know more about you than I ever did before. You're one of my favorite readers bc you've always been so supportive of my fics - even on LJ where no one ever says anything otl. I hope this whole thing blows over soon so we can get back to our fics!
