Japanese and Korean

For the past six month I've been trying to choose between learning Japanese or Korean.

I want to learn Japanese because the language is just so beautiful and I find it very easy to pronounce the words. The problem with Japanese is learning a lot of Kanji. Also, I have difficulties with writing the characters.

Korean, I honestly want to learn it because of SHINHWA, MBLAQ and Kim Jaejoong. When I listen to their songs, they hit me deeply within my heart. Jaejoong has this passionate voice that can stir all of your emotions, SHINHWA's songs are beautiful, unique and I can honestly never grow tired from them and MBLAQ are just so funny and they have this catchy music style that you're always addicted to.

Many times I chose Japanese over Korean but then said groups mentioned above ruins it all for me.

And when I chose Korean over Japanese, Korean drama and aegyo girls ruin it for me.

Also, I'm afraid that if I learned Japanese I will forget it easily because I don't listen to a lot of Japanese songs, sadly. Nor do I watch a lot of dramas or animes. Same thing goes with K-Drama, but I prefer J-Drama and anime over K-Drama to be honest.

So, It's really annoying that I simply cannot make up my mind. I can learn the both of them but I want to learn only ONE of them while I'm attending university. UGHHH THIS IS JUST SO FRUSTRATING!!

I know this I late, but I think you should do Japanese.

I'm almost fluent in Japanese and I'm absorbing some Korean now, but I obviously started off with anime. I won't deny, manga is usually better than anime, but don't give up on it and trust me, it's not all trashy (I can recommend some to you that will definitely get you hooked).

One thing I did that gave me this massive head start in learning Japanese was looking up 'best anime openings' on YouTube, then I downloaded the ones I found good. I haven't even watched most of them, and I don't plan to, but it could save you the trouble of trying to like something you don't really want to watch.

Also, you forgot about j-rock, with the gazette, a group of people rivaled in beauty only by exo. They're an amazing group.

So sorry for this shameless advertisement °-°" and so late, you must have already started your language by now lol

I'm now majoring. Japanese.
In my opinion, if you're going to college choose Japanese, it can also help you to get some job bcs from the news I read many of japan companies need japanese speaker.
And if you're worried abt not listening japanese song much, you can listen to k-pop artists singing in japanese haha (that's what I do)

AwwW~ I'm currently doing both since I watch anime and listen to songs + dramas along with listening to kpop and variety shows (Not a k-drama person...)
I learn by ear so it's easier for me >.< If you need anything just ask! I'll do my best to help you :3

I'd like to do both, but I'm pretty sure learning korean is much easier, 'cause it doesn't have all the kanji and stuff.
I'm in the same predicament as you, I'd love to learn both. But I've decided I'm going to learn korean first, and then, let's see what happens. I'd love to learn japanese, but if I can't, well, at least I already know how to read korean...

My advice, learn korean. If youre passionate about the music then listening to it will help you p8ck up on words easier. I've taken four years of Japanese and was actually pretty good about it but ever since kpop ive been starting to forget. Seoul is also a very pretty place and if you decide to go there one day you will have the language to your advantage3 unlike most foreigners. Learn korean ^^

I'm totally doing both. But I'm starting with Korean first though because that's what I'm most interested in right now :)

If you're learning from the university, I vote for learning Japanese. Yes, the kanji is so hard to memorize but it helps if you're learning it formally. You're forced to memorize. I think you can pick up Korean as you go along (that is if you already know the basics -- alphabet, sentence construction and stuff).

I've studied the basics of both languages. I think I can improve on Korean by self-study but for Japanese... it needs formal lessons.

Whatever you finally decide, HAVE FUN!

頑張ってね!

So learn one first and then learn the other. There shouldn't be a limit anyhow.

I may not be much help in choosing, but I am taking two languages in college right now (Korean and Chinese) and I will tell you that learning a new language takes a lot of practice time. It takes a lot of homework, it takes hours of audio CDs and studying ,and you really have to WANT to do it. If you don't like hard work, or you don't want to really stress yourself out that much. I would consider not taking an asian language. However if you don't mind the work it takes then honestly, learning new languages is a lot of fun. I love it, even if it stresses me out constantly and I want to cry most days. I have fun learning it and I feel accomplished when I get something right. But like it said it takes that commitment and that drive to learn it. So I would take the time to think about it and make sure you're up for the adventure, and then just go with one. Or try a semester of both and see which one you like best. ^^
