My Love-Hate Relationship with SNSD~
I don't know exactly when I started listening to Girls Generation but I know for a fact that the first MV I watched of their's was probably Gee. My first impression was literally "Why are they go damn skinny??" I'm not even joking. Back then I was mostly into boy groups and Yes they were sticks too but not to that intensity. I boycotted them a while because it felt weird to watch a bunch of what seemed like 20 anerexic girls dance around in high heels. After a couple more months I started learning more and more about SHINee and then went on to Super Junior and since they were in the same company as SNSD they soon came up again. Before I knew it I started slowly getting into them. I watched Gee again and I actually liked it. Though the skinniness thing bothered me a little (and it still does till this day) the song and dance were great.
One day, I stumbled upon Genie which drove me to like them a tiny bit more. It was so catchy and I loved every bit of it. But I was in denial for a long time. I convinced myself that I didn't like them and that I just liked their music. But they were everywhere and I couldn't escape them. Just out of curiousity I started looking up more of their songs and I found Hoot, Run Devil Run, and Mr. Taxi. I liked them too. Soon I started slowly learning their names. Yoona and Jessica were first since they were the most popular. I found out that there were only 9 of them not 20 and that they didn't all look alike. I was so close-minded before then. At one point I would watch Live performaces and funny clips of them which seemed crazy to me at the time.
It took one moment for me to realize that SNSD weren't all that bad; that they weren't all just a bunch of skinny untalented b*tches. Two words: The Boys.
I know the song didn't go over well with everyone and to be honest I didn't like either at first, but for some reason them coming to America and performing a song in English opened up my eyes and mind to them. I accepted that Yes as a group I did like them and that some individual members were causing me not to like all of them. (P.S No I don't like ALL the members but most of them I do ...minus three members :/ ) Once I accepted my tolerance for SNSD I really started getting into them. I watched every MV that came out (Twinkle, IGAB) and for some biazarre reason it seems like ever Girls Generation song I've ever listened to I didn't hate.
Anyway sorry this was kinda long. Sorry if I bored you. But it's been on my mind for a while and I just had to get it off my chest. What made me finally write it was watching their latest MV called Galaxy Supernova. I coulsn't help but instantly love it :D
And I think the moral of the story is: Every group deserves a fair chance and if you like just a few songs from a group then there's bound to be more. Side note: My biases are Seohyun and Sooyoung~
SNSD Fighting!! :)
