We need to have a discussion on why the ablity to transfer karma was removed and possible alternatives or simply a way to solve the issues.

The problem we're having is that there are too many karma shops where the premise is "you vote and subscribe to my story so I can then give some to you and keep the rest for myself". It came to the point where one of them almost got featured which brought this issue to my attention. These shops provide no content value to AFF and are created for the sole purpose of getting points where points are meant to reward either good authors or very active users that participate in the community. The removal of karma transfers destroys a major incentive of starting a karma shop.

Unfortunately, the collateral damage is that there are legitimate contests and events held here that also use karma points as a reward system. I think those do provide content value for everyone here even though they are not technically stories.

By this point, you see the dillemma I have before me. I want to discourage one while not harming the other. I don't mind bringing karma transfers back so you guys can have your contests but I want this done without the revival of karma shops.

I have been suggested other options.

One option is that the points can be used to buy virtual items instead and those can be given out as prizes. But it is also unknown whether or not that will affect karma shops.

Another option is that I bring karma transfers back on the condition that you guys promise to yell at anyone trying to start a karma shop and anyone who participates. Maybe even a downvote button (but that can also be dangerous for various reasons - we try to be nice here).

Give me some ideas in the comments. Preferably not anything that takes a long time to make or put in place.
