PERSONALITY

bonnie is an all-or-nothing type of girl with no concept of setting boundaries when it comes to herself. forever the understander, but never the understood, bonnie spends most of her time being a stand-in therapist to those around her. "i don't know why strangers keep opening up to me, i just nod and respond to whatever it was i heard before i zoned out." she can be very sensitive to criticism, to the point where a bad critique can make her quit the activity in question in its entirety. how she stuck it out in the world of art school for two whole years remains a mystery to this day. for this reason bonnie tends to put up a front of what she thinks people want to see and hear from her, keeping a lot of her true thoughts and feelings to herself for fear of being disliked. she can be a doormat at times, agreeing to everything and anything those close to her ask of her, partly because she wants to be everything she can be for those she loves, and partly because she wants to make sure no one is unhappy. bonnie, though introverted, has never been afraid to strike up a conversation with someone who looks like they've been left out, though she'll usually retreat to stare into the void after the interaction so she can recharge her social battery. 

BACKGROUND

yeom boyoung was born in the rural town of sangju, south korea. after her younger sister nayoung's birth in 2001, the yeom family immigrated to ontario, canada in the search of better opportunites. boyoung, now mostly referred to by her english name, bonnie, had a fairly normal childhood. she maintained an a/b honor roll, participated in her church's choir on sundays, and her school choir throughout the week. though singing was her passion, it was never something she planned to pursue as her parents were very against careers in the arts. on a family vacation to toronto they happened to stumble upon an open audition for jyp entertainment. her parents let her audition "for fun", thinking there was such a slim chance she'd actually get in, but had to eat their words just a few weeks later when bonnie was accepted into the agency.

- likes: sour flavors (especially the taste of vinegar), art in general (but mostly sketchwork and painting), hot weather, the colors pink and orange, most flowers, spring time, animated movies (her favorite is the aristocats), the white can red bull (her life saver most days), animals, bullet journaling, the pink buldak noodles
- dislikes: cold (to the point where she will drink lukewarm water over ice water), beige, poinsettias (allergic), horror movies with a lot of gore, overly sweet desserts, cliques/bullies, the 4 player limit on most co-op video games, rain and snow, coming home to an unclean house/room, cucumber, horseradish
- habits: chewing her hair when nervous, saying "look at the bright side" when something bad happens (even if there is no bright side), sleeping in odd places
- hobbies: art (painting, sketching, some graphic design), bullet journaling, baking

- was a known jyp trainee though she was never officially revealed to the public. clips of her singing had leaked several times in her two years at jyp, so she had a small following even in the years that she wasn't a trainee. she opened an instagram account, @ym_bonnie in 2016 that had 10k followers at it's peak. as of her joining hb entertainment it had 4k followers, though that rose back up to 7.5k around the time of citrus' rumored debut.
- though her sister natalie/nayoung aren't the closest, they do share a common interest in "nerd movies" such as star wars and lotr.
- her parents named both her and her sister after actresses. bonnie, from bonnie wright, and natalie from natalie portman. they gave no explanation as to why they chose these names.
- always been into and fairly good at art and painting, thus why she chose graphic design for her first major in college, despite her parents' disapproval. after she joined hb entertainment she switched her major to music production and into her school's online program so she could continue her studies while training.
- works as a freelance graphic designer and as an assistant at a recording studio to fund citrus' activities. she also works on saturday nights as a delivery person for a restaurant near the citrus girls' apartment, mostly because the owner sends bonnie home with anything left over at the end of the night and it's always enough that everyone has a meal.
- for her "self care days" if you could even call it that, bonnie sleeps in a scorching hot bath until the water gets cold enough that it wakes her up. sometimes she'll have a face mask on, but it's usually fallen off and disappeared into the tub by the time she wakes up.
- her producing set up is a small corner of the living room that has a small table and a floor cushion, though it's only used half the time. most of her best ideas come from a late night brainstorming session in which bonnie has no idea how she came up with what she did by the next morning.
- bonnie has always dyed her own hair and cut her own bangs.
- has a little cash stuffing book labeled "citrus fund!" that's covered in stickers. it's not just for their band funds, it's also their emergency fund for the apartment and their monthly budget funds i.e. bills, groceries, etc.

RELATIONSHIPS

nikaido tsuki : bandmate : 24 : 9.5/10
tsuki is probably one of the only people in bonnie's life that's ever truly understood her. their friendship started slow and steady, they were originally pitted against each other in vocal lessons, as they were both vocal focused trainees, in the hopes that it'd make both of them work harder, but neither cared to participate in the drama however fake or real it may be. finding the silliness in that situation brought them from acquaintanceship to friendship and they soon became inseperable. with them having similar college majors and spending lots of time together working on music for citrus, their friendship grew deeper, both developing a strong respect for the other that was evident in how considerate they were for the other, even in small instances like bonnie re-arranging the space so tsuki had enough room to completely stretch out, or knowing exactly how many minutes she likes her matcha to be brewed. bonnie is pretty terrible at self-care, which everyone in citrus knows, and somehow tsuki can pick up on her cues that she's getting overwhelmed or tired before bonnie herself notices it. it's very obvious they took the term "citrus's mom and dad" a bit too literally, iykyk.
 

hwang yeonji : bandmate : 23 : 8/10
yeonji and bonnie quickly became friends during  as they're both happy-go-lucky people they both tend to see the brighter side of things. though bonnie can't quite keep up with yeonji's energy, she tries to match her enthusiasm as much as she can. bonnie knows she can count on yeonji, and sees her as a very reliable friend and teammate, but still doesn't want to weigh her down with her struggles. mostly because she doesn't want to rain on yeonji's parade, but also because yeonji threatens to "get rid of" any rude customers on her delivery shifts. being a murderer isn't a good image for any idol to have.
 

wilaivan metharom : bandmate : 22 : 8.5/10
though wila is technically part of citrus' maknae line, she's bonnie's second closest friend. they joined hb around the same time, so bonnie stuck with wila until she got close with all the girls. they balance each other out, wila bringing a bit more realism into some of bonnie's daydreamy delusions of grandeur, and bonnie reminding wila that she's allowed to not be so cynical. they usually are waking and sleeping at the same times, so they spend a lot of their time together silently working on projects in the same room or standing together in the kitchen, fighting off sleep-heavy eyelids with a warm cup of liquid caffeine. if ever there's something bonnie can't talk to tsuki about, wila is the person she goes to. one of the reasons bonnie takes everything to do with citrus so seriously is because of wila. she knows how hard she's worked, and the promise of her debut being dangled and ripped from her grasp multiple times. when bonnie made the promise to wila that she'd do everything she could for them to debut, she meant it. they flip between korean and english when they speak.

jo yeoreum : bandmate : 21 : 7.5/10
part of citrus' maknae line and bonnie's baby. she views yeoreum as another younger sister, though she dotes on her a bit more than her blood sister. she's constantly impressed by yeoreum's talent and determination, even in her first round of being a trainee she didn't have the courage to drop out of school to chase her dreams. she doesn't open up to yeoreum as much about her negative feelings as she does to wila and tsuki, mostly because she feels as one of the older members that it's her responsibility to bear the burden for the younger girls. for this reason she feels less close with her, but still considers yeoreum apart of her inner circle.
 

clara hwayoung jung : bandmate : 20 : 7/10
though bonnie loves clara dearly, the younger girl's reckless nature is one of her biggest stressors. because the younger girl can rely on her family's funds to help them out, she can be a little flippant with their money, investing into things that bonnie doesn't always see as immediately necessary. she still remembers the day that clara came home with a new camera to record their dance practices on instead of paying their electric bill. her response of "oh that's right, i'll have mom/dad/grandparents pay it instead" made bonnie shake her head, but as long as the bill got paid she didn't really care. she tends to shield clara from some of the more challenging parts of being an independent group, she sees the twinkle in their maknae's eye when she talks about performing on big stages, and she doesn't want her to lose that. for the same reason with yeoreum, she doesn't feel as close with clara as she does some of the other girls, but still considers her part of her inner circle.

bonnie views citrus as her sisters for life, though she never expected to get so close to them. she's had a lot of surface-level only friends, more of acquaintances, but the citrus girls have seen more of bonnie's internal world than even her own family has. bonnie's not really sure what her reasons are for trying the idol path again, but part of her thinks it was part of her life's purpose was to find her soul family. she feels a strong sense of responsibility towards the girls and their dreams, knowing that they're going to have to work both smarter and harder than agency-backed groups, but she is determined to make citrus the best it can be. even if they never make it big and are stuck busking on the street forever, she'd be ok as long as her girls are by her side.

TRAINEE LIFE
bonnie started at jyp entertainment in late 2013 at 15 years old. she was put into a preliminary lineup for sixteen, but when deciding the final sixteen girls, bonnie was cut. riddled with sadness and shame, she moved back to ontario where she finished high school and started school for graphic design. about halfway through her college career bonnie started to regret not continuing her idol training, so she started sending audition videos to lesser known agencies in the hopes her previous experience at jyp entertainment would help her get in. hb entertainment was the only one that reponded before her next semester started, so that was who she picked. being one of the older girls and a previous trainee, bonnie quickly rose into a leader-like figure amongst the he girls, although she didn’t feel confident in her ability to guide them. her vocal and dance talents, though still at an acceptable level for an idol these days, were far weaker than they had been in her prime. she struggled daily with her choice of coming back into the trainee realm, feeling that her skills were gone, she was too old, that she may be taking an opportunity away from someone else who’d be a better role model, basically any and all intrusive thoughts that one could think. for this reason she wasn’t completely distraught the first few times their debut was pushed back. she tried to keep the girls’ spirits up, reminding them that it’d give them a few more months to perfect their debut song and make a bigger impact when they were finally revealed to the public. when it was eventually revealed hb (now standing for huge in her mind) had no plans of debuting them she was livid. not for herself, but for the other girls as their spirits were crushed. after the decision was made to continue citrus as an independent group, bonnie threw herself into her production work, silently swearing vengeance on hb and vowing to make citrus as successful as she could. her dream is for citrus to get first on a music show and for all the girls to be successful in the industry. bonnie has already decided that citrus will be her first and last group endeavor as she loves the citrus girls so much she couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.
