FULL NAME nam haneul, 남하늘
meaning "sky" but also loosely interpreted as an exhortation to "spread your dreams high like the sky."
NICKNAME(S)
☁ kid, 꼬맹이; an endearment used by her older sister ever since she was little. despite the fact that they're roughly the same height now, haneul is forever a baby in her sister's eyes and though she says (complains) how she's no longer a kid, haneul wouldn't want it any other way.

nam seohee's little sister; the most common nickname haneul receives over the years of growing up next to someone perfect and amazing as seohee. though it is rather unfortunate haneul's identity solely revolves around her older sister to most people, she doesn't really mind. other people's opinions don't matter, as long as she knows herself.

music department's social butterfly; a runner up of the common nickname given to haneul. a lot of students (even those outside of her department) have encountered her at some point whether it be her popping out of the blue to assist others, from her shift at get well soon cafe, from a party she was invited to by a friend of a friend, or just that one time she approached them. extraversion definitely runs through her family, and in a way, haneul is fulfilling her parents wishes of her to follow seohee's footsteps. just not the way they had hoped, of course.

☁ korean, 한국어; born and raised in seoul, it's her mother tongue. 100% fluency.
☁ english, 영어; since she was little, haneul was forced to take english classes per the demand of her parents. though learning the language was a rather negative experience for her younger self, haneul has learnt to be appreciative of how she can utilise it now in the present. 90% fluency.

OCCUPATION
yonsei freshman ; music composition
the ultimate decision which became the bane of her parents' lives as they say, but haneul thinks they're merely exaggerating. although haneul was never fond of the idea that she'll have to study for another three or four years, it is a path she genuinely wishes to pursue and finds joy in what she's learning.

part-time job ; get well soon cafe
as her parents refused to financially support her and she despised constantly relying on her older sibling, haneul decided to take part time jobs to get by. one job being at get well soon cafe; to be fair, she wasn't expecting a lot when she decided to impulsively walk in asking if there were vacancies with nothing but a resume in her hand and confidence. to her surprise, she did get in and had adapted easily due to her easygoing nature. haneul's main roles are at the cashier and serving the tables, which the owner found she excels in because of how she converses with others well; but she's also a barista in training and one day, haneul hopes she can successfully make latte art instead of her usual blobs.

part-time job ; piano / guitar teacher
a sideline she gets through connections and extending her hand to others. haneul usually teaches little kids about the basics on piano or guitar, depending on the instrument they choose. parents, who've heard of her due to word of mouth, tend to approach as her rate per hour is one of the cheapest around and once their kids have learnt the basics, even to intermediate, haneul advises them to find a more professional teacher. though there's no stable income and it generally comes and goes, haneul enjoys teaching little kids as it's a new experience for her. she teaches them in creative ways and methods that ensure it's enjoyable for them to learn because, in this way, it plants their love for music and for art.

part-time job ; waitress at 멘야산다이메
the second job haneul kept after she enrolled into yonsei, since her sideline as a piano and guitar teacher generally comes and go, she needed to keep her waitressing job to gain a more stable income. it was the best option to keep her waitressing at a ramen shop since they open from 11.30am to 5am, causing her to grab late night shifts despite knowing how dangerous it is. however, since her move, it's a closer distance to walk.

APPEARANCE the haneul trademark includes: mid-back length hair that tends to be impulsively dyed with highlights before returning back to her natural dark locks once she's tired of it; a warm smile which appears whenever she encounters or lock eyes with those around her; short painted nails that's never grown too long for the sake of playing piano; light makeup to help fool people into thinking she gets decent rest; different ear piercings on either ear; a minimalistic tattoo of stars behind her left ear that no one ever notices until her hair's tied up; and finally, a matching gold bracelet with her sister that rests on her left wrist. currently keeps her natural hair colour.

the details of nam haneul;

MEASUREMENTS 169cm & 50kg.

FASHION STYLE there's a general look that haneul unintentionally goes for, and her close friends share the same sentiment that they never fail to tell her.

"haneul, does it ever occur to you that you dress like an e-girl?"

"what?! no, i don't!"

(scroll right!)

though haneul doesn't consider herself to be in the same category as an e-girl, she does dress like one regardless of how much she denies it. aside from her extensive collection of colourful hoodies, which she wears at her shifts (on top of her outfits), at home or when she's rushing out of the house, haneul tends to stick to a darker colour scheme; she finds that it's easier to pull off and requires little to no effort. anyone can tell she definitely has a distinct style—which is looking like an e-girl, but so what? haneul may look like one but at least she looks put together that it helps to stray away from the fact she's a mess.

just spend ten minutes with nam haneul and you can tell she's the life of a party.

if there's anything one can note about her, it's the fact that she has no qualms with making friends. haneul's warm and amiable disposition draws people in, but it's also how she approaches others with such ease. she can effortlessly hold a  conversation about anything under the sun and smoothly transition into topics to keep the conversation going; full of wit and charms, shares jokes and amusing stories, it won't take long for haneul to make you feel as if you've known each other for years.

haneul's tendencies to lend out a helping hand and being genuinely nice also does a lot in terms of making friends. she's the kind who won't hesitate to help others, a trait shaped by her grandfather who has always told her a small act of kindness can go a long way. on the basis that her kindness won’t be taken for granted, or at an advantage, haneul doesn’t mind exerting effort to help people and would even go through lengths if she holds you close to her heart.

however, with such characteristics, it can result to a few mistaking haneul's overall generosity and warmth for flirting— and in all honesty, they’re not really at fault. haneul is perceptive, a trait she uses to be more people oriented and hopefully, in due time, more considerate of other people's feelings. but it doesn't help her case when she uses it to find an aspect to genuinely compliment others on. it’s a quality she takes advantage of at work, offering great customer service to those who enter get well soon cafe, and to be a good teacher by boosting her students' confidence when they play. haneul has no intentions to come off as a flirt, and even if she does, it's all done in playful and humorous overtones because to her it's all just for fun and games.

but in a way, that's also the main issue.

though haneul's lots of fun and provides good company, it's rare for people to see her as a close companion. she might be the first person you turn to have a good time, but not necessarily the first when it comes to a crisis.

there's an air of nonchalance around her and even from afar, anyone can tell that haneul is a carefree spirit. there isn't too many things that faze her, and it's mostly because she doesn't care. it takes a lot for her to get mad and there's only one thing that instantly causes her to go into fury but aside from that, haneul will be all jokes, smiles and shrugs even if she isn't deep down.

but if there's anything haneul's good at, aside from joking around, it's neutrality. it's why she can get along with just about anyone and everyone, regardless of any underlying issue between those around her. haneul will speak her mind based off an objective judgement, which prevents her to be easily swayed; this enables her to treat people without bias because it's not like she cares anyways. haneul is so aware of the fact that she'll always float from one group to another, that there's no point in choosing sides.

at the end of the day, they're merely fair-weather friends exactly like how she is to them and maybe, that's exactly what she wants.

stick around haneul long enough and it'll reveal how her conversations are always about a common interest, random facts, or stories about people around her. but it has never been about herself.

for haneul, there's a distinct line between a friend and an acquaintance regardless if she implies it, she'll always treat others the same; in a vague friendly manner, a friend you can tell things without a single judgement, but not close enough to be a friend you can lean on. there's only a few who knows her beneath surface level as haneul prefers not to touch on personal aspects like her family, and can perfectly deflect questions by answering vaguely, with jokes or simply turning it around.

to her, opening up about her experiences is something that feels vulnerable, a way to show that she's letting people into her little world she has for herself. which also leads to attachments.

ones that she prefers not to have.

attachments are hard to let go and she's not one who likes being held back. like clouds drifting across the skies, blown by the wind, haneul knows she'll search for new sights, new people, new things. the less attachments, the more easier to get up and leave; to drop everything she has and take that leap without looking back.

and in a way, it proves that despite the acts of kindness she displays, haneul is selfish. but then again, isn't everyone?

haneul has realised before she's anyone else's, she is her own. at the end of the day when haneul returns home, she's no longer a sister, a friend, a teacher, or a barista. she's merely herself and haneul will prioritise herself first and foremost; she'll focus on what she needs or wants, how she wants to live her life or where she wants to go. as long as she has her determination, hopes and dreams, there won't be anything that can stop her.

putting her self-interests first becomes a reason as to why she's insensitive. she's decisive; haneul will do everything in her power to get what she wants, even at the risk of ruining her relationship with others or if she steps on their feelings. not that she takes pleasure out of hurting others, it's just not a factor she considers first.

because haneul has never been a think before you speak, it's always speak now or forever hold your peace. or better yet, act now, ask forgiveness later.

haneul is daring and bold, the kind who dives head first without a plan then make one on the go. a dare-devil, or better yet, downright impulsive. there's no pause on her end, to even think it through and stop in wonder because to her it all leads to hesistancy, which ultimately instills fear.

it's essentially why she's the epitome of "act now, ask forgiveness later" because it's harder for haneul to ask permission rather than own up to her mistakes. the only thing that causes her to seeth red is being told what to do, or in her instance, what not to do. the more constraint, the more resistance and the more rebellion, a trait her parents have witnessed first hand before anyone else.

majority of the schemes haneul does go undetected, and her close friends even wonder why she doesn't consider acting as a career, especially when pretending like she wasn't doing anything in order to run off scot free. haneul's mastered the act of keeping things under wraps, which is why she solely tackles situations and circumstances without informing anyone, and when she does get caught, or make a mistake, that's when she'll speak of it.

haneul never regrets any of her decision, no matter how reckless or stupid it was, but she will regret not being able to own up to mistakes and asking forgiveness. it doesn't matter whether her apologies will be accepted or not, as long as she did it because cutting ties with loose ends hurt the most.

BACKGROUND

"even before i was born, i was already disappointing my parents so this isn't really anything new to them."

c. 2001. in the early winter morning of december first, nam haneul was born into a wealthy family, priviledged to have a silver spoon in the moment she was welcomed into the world.

every joke is half-meant so they say, and it rings true in this case. nam hangil and nam sori were content with only having a daughter, though they had always hoped for a son. thus, through years of trying as well as hoping, the two had successfully conceived after eight years.

except they had another girl.

despite the initial disappointment, having another child still meant a lot to them. it also made seohee, who was nine at the time, overjoyed knowing she would have a sibling to love and cherish.

c. 2006. it's a shame all the memories of her early childhood are vague now, as the first five years of haneul's childhood were pleasant. she was a bundle of joy, a little ball of energy who always begged to go outside and be active, pleads that her nanny always caved into because of those puppy eyes she'd flash. even at a young age, haneul knew how to get what she wanted.

in all honesty, haneul grew up somewhat lonely. it was around this time where her grandfather had stepped down from his role as ceo of jung&nam it group, one of the largest it consulting companies in south korea, and handed the position to her father. this shift caused her parents to focus more on the company, leaving haneul in the care of a nanny.

seohee was also in middle school by this time and became busier; she had extra classes once school was finished, there was always homework to complete, and miscellanous tasks from extracurricular activities that their parents signed her up for. despite that, seohee still placed effort in spending time with her even if it wasn't as long as haneul hoped.

there was a silver lining to it though, her grandfather's retirement meant that he'd often visit her and spend a day with her. haneul loved her grandfather dearly and would excitedly rush to the front door the moment she'd hear his cheery voice that would echo through the empty house as he'd call for her.

the quality time they shared was also the dynamite that sparked her passion for art and music because her grandfather was the same. they'd spend hours outdoors before returning back home where he'd play the piano with her, or he'd bring his guitar out just to sing songs with her. her grandfather's eyes always had a sparkle in them whenever he played, and haneul began to be the same, a mirror reflecting what she could see.

c. 2006. by the time haneul was ready to enter school, her parents decided that it was time to enrol her into extracurricular activities, starting off with piano.

haneul was excited at first, five years old and eager to learn. her first teacher was patient, experienced with teaching kids as young as her about the fundamentals and basic pieces with piano. her teacher was similar to her grandfather, and she thoroughly enjoyed learning.

once haneul entered school, her parents signed her up with tutors for subjects like maths and english, after all they did the exact same to seohee which worked out well based on the trophies, medals and certificates she'd bring home due to her participation in academic competitions. after all, just like they told her, "it's never too early for you to get ahead of all your friends, haneul" and though she never really understood, haneul did it anyways.

eventually, haneul took up extra classes and activities that seohee took when she was younger. none of which she loved, but stuck to it because her parents would tell her that it'd make them feel proud.

the classes and activities she took gave her less time to play and have fun. to her parents, this was going to be her way of fun and haneul, though never feeling like it was fun, began to think the same.

c. 2010. by the time haneul was in third grade, her plate was full and bombarded with extra classes, homework, practices and activities. she took up all the classes and extracurriculars that her parents had enrolled seohee for; from swimming and all the way to ballet, haneul did it all just for the sake of her parents.

it was strange because none of her other friends were this occupied. whilst they were subjected to attend hagwon as well and some participating in other activities, they all found it strange how haneul was doing a lot, especially when she had to reject the invitations to play during break or after school due to prior arrangement.

haneul's parents dictated everything she did and decided for her, even to the point where the "friends" she had made were ones her parents picked out. it was there where rebellion had planted a tiny seed in her heart; haneul didn't like having to choose friends, she wanted to be friends with everyone and she did exactly that, even if her parents got rather mad.

with the help of her grandfather, haneul managed to swap one of her activities with guitar lessons. something she was desperate to learn as her piano lessons became suffocating after she passed her first grade piano exam, and her original teacher was replaced with seohee's one; a more stern and impatient lady who had expected her to play the pieces without a mistake prior to lessons.

although haneul's interest in learning the guitar started during this time, this was also when seohee had graduated high school. she was successfully accepted in ewha womens' university, into the same college their mother formerly studied in, and it meant seohee would have to leave home.

growing up next to someone as amazing and wonderful as seohee was difficult. it was hard to measure up to the standards that seohee had placed because of how diligent and hardworking she was; it was in the way she could do everything with such effortless manner that it seemed so easy to do until you give it a try.

haneul was raised with expectations that she would become like her older sister. it was almost formulaic; if she took all the classes and activities seohee took, if she dressed and behaved the same, haneul was bound to turn out the same. just like that, nam seohee, who grew up to be the perfect daughter they envisioned, turned to be the exact model that they required haneul to follow, which led to constant comparison.

their parents would always commend her older sibling, followed by a remark, "see haneul? you should be the same." whilst hearing this at the age of nine didn't help in terms of self-confidence, it did work at least. haneul always tried to the best of her ability to be like seohee, despite how it wouldn't work, not because her parents demanded it, but rather, she looked up to her.

to haneul, her older sister was her knight in shining armour. seohee would always be there to cheer her up, or try to spend time with her, even if their led to a lot of differences between them. she'd be the one who'd shine a light on haneul and her achievements, the first one who would say how proud she was of her and truly mean it.

and with seohee leaving for university, it would mean that she won't always have the warmth that her older sister exudes.

c. 2014. enter middle school and haneul began to realise how everything she was doing was becoming suffocating.

and every time she tried to ask for even a fraction of a second to breathe, haneul was met with rejection; "your older sister did this, so can you."

after seohee's departure from the house, everything became miserable. the light that always shone bright on seohee has shifted to haneul; day in, day out was her attempt of living up to be as wonderful as seohee, only to be indirectly told it wasn't enough by everyone around her.

it was this point in her life where haneul began to doubt herself and her efforts as her self-confidence began to dwindle into oblivion, if not for the help of her grandpa and her older sister; the two anchors in her life who told her to keep going, that she was doing great and to understand her parents even if it seemed hard to.

eventually, haneul no longer kept up with her extracurriculars and her parents had decided to drop everything except guitar (she desperately pleaded to keep going) and piano, before they enrolled her with further classes for her subjects at school to ensure she could secure a high score for the college entry exam, and apply for yonsei university.

c. 2017. by the end of her middle school years, haneul was exhausted from trying to be someone else. aside from the time she spent with her grandfather and times when her sister would visit, every waking moment for haneul felt like imprisonment but refrained from doing anything about it. in a way, she saw herself as a terribly written rebellious princess trope; haneul knew she was merely a spoiled brat who whined about the life she was living even though others would do anything just to have a life like hers.

just like that, haneul started high school in defeat as she decided to cave into her parents' wishes and expectations, after all, she never had a chance to determine her own hopes. at least, not consciously.

but fate so happens to have a trick upon its sleeve. this was where haneul began to befriend two girls who would become the closest friends she could have, yoo ahri and na boram; starry-eyed dancers full of dreams, hopes and determination.

it was through high school and through her friendship with other students, most especially with ahri and boram, that she got to tase freedom. they showed haneul how to be carefree. from passing childish notes in class; receiving punishment for running across the hallways; sneaking to the school's rooftop; all the way to that time where they skipped a class for the sake of experience before landing them-selves into detention.

but most especially, it was through them and their classmates who specialised in arts, where haneul got to see firsthand what it was like to passionately pursue a dream. to live and breathe for a purpose, for a dream. even through adversity and injuries, haneul saw her friends get back up to dance, sing, play and act. though it was hard at times, as they told her, it felt rewarding because they loved what they were doing. and to haneul, it showed in the way their eyes would sparkle, in how they would seem so free.

and for once, haneul felt burning envy.

haneul's parents began to notice change in her. good change, her grandfather had said, but her parents thought otherwise. it was in the way she began to no longer care about how perfect she had to be, or how perfect everything she did had to be because for the next three years, haneul would gradually become herself.

she spent years molding herself after her older sister, only for misery to come and knock at her heart. haneul earnestly tried her best to be like seohee, but not once did it ever work out because they're two different individuals.

so the more freedom haneul tasted, the more she wanted it and this was the start of her beginning to rebel against them, a mere phase they hoped would end once haneul came to her senses.

but haneul coming to her senses was the realisation that she no longer wanted to be like her sister, but rather herself.

c. 2019-2020. to her parents, haneul had to meet the high standards seohee set in order to keep this pristine image that her family expected themselves to have.

in a way their achievements reflected the upbringing they had; the by-product of a perfect child raised by perfect parenting.

but haneul realised long ago she would always be in her sister's shadow, even if seohee was there or not. every company party, family gathering or grand dinners, there would be a mention of the sisters in the same sentence being compared.

and by the time she was at her last year of high school, haneul no longer wanted to be in her sister's shadow, she refused to no longer act like a perfect daughter.

haneul's parents wanted both their kids in business, or at least law. seohee, who had a genuine interest in stepping up to run their company, was determined prior to even graduating high school and had a whole plan for her career.

meanwhile, haneul had no clue and had no plan. or so they thought.

while she may not have had a detailed plan covering the next five years of her life, haneul had a plan on being free.

for her whole final year, haneul diligently studied for the college entry exam to the point where her parents thought she was finally coming back to her senses. their daughter got out of her rebellious phase.

that is, until she dropped the bombshell once her results came back; she would be taking a gap year and refused to take up business or law, causing an argument between them.

her father refused to let everything they had given her to waste and threatened to no longer support her if she was going to pursue this unknown path.

the end result was unsightly, there were tears shed and voices raised, haneul got the courage to stand up for herself and uncover everything she bottled up over the years— "i don't want to be seohee, i can never be seohee. i'm sorry."

and haneul, without hesitation, jumped in the arms of uncertainty as she grabbed her bags and left the house.

c. 2020. there was a bittersweet taste in haneul's freedom, nevertheless, she felt no regret doing what she did.

for the first few days after leaving home, haneul stayed with her grandparents and once seohee heard the news, her older sister immediately came over.

haneul proceeded to share her plan, one that she didn't have until asked by her grandmother; haneul had plans to work for a year, explore what field she wished to study and pursue it the following year.

until she could find a cheap place to rent, haneul lived with seohee for a year and spent her whole gap year working, taking multiple part time jobs with her first job at get well soon cafe. it was also during this time where she explored to experience things she's never done, especially the ones in the bucket list she wrote during her 18th birthday.

and as she read through her bucket list, a certain goal caught her eye, 'compose songs' — right there and then, haneul knew what she was going to pursue.

c. 2021. in all honesty, haneul can't say that she's independent. rather, she's still priviledge and lucky because she has a supportive grandfather and sister.

the moment haneul mentioned that she was going to pursue music composition in yonsei, her grandfather was ecstatic. it was his dream to pursue music long ago but now, his granddaughter was doing it for him and he wholeheartedly supported her decision, even to the point where he was willing to assist her with tuition fees.

meanwhile, her older sister allowed her to rent the apartment studio she invested in. haneul wanted to pay the full rent as it felt appropriate to do so; she was going to be seohee's tenant after all, but in her older sister's eyes, haneul will forever be her baby sister first before anything else. thus, with her sibling privileges, haneul managed to rent the studio for half the price which ensured that haneul wouldn't be constantly relying on seohee and she could fulfill her role of being the world's best sister, which in haneul's opinion she had always won the title of.

although haneul's relationship with her parents still aren't the best, she still has hope that one day, she can make them proud in her way.

LIKES
ice cream. loves ice cream with all her heart. her favourite flavour is mint choco chip, followed by cookie dough
bread. would kill a man to express her love for it. loves how versatile it is and could live off it forever
cold drinks. has an affinity for iced drinks especially fruit teas and coffee
music. ever since little, haneul has always been drawn to music due to the influence of her grandpa. she has lots of playlists varying in genres and languages; to her, music is universal and transcends languages. her go to genres are alternative, rock, classical, indie and pop, but listens to anything. heck, even country can slap hard
guitars. haneul prefers guitar over piano as she has nicer memories of learning how to play. haneul also has a dream of collecting guitars
spring. always excited for cherry blossoms and overall weather despite suffering from hayfever
game let's plays. haneul loves the idea of gaming, and while she's still a bit of a noob, she loves watching pros who can play really well. it's also why she can make game references even without having to play.
pick up lines. haneul loves them, even the cringey ones; it guarantees a reaction from those around her as she uses it teasingly, enjoying every one's various reaction from laughter, curling of fingers, to being flustered.
dad jokes & puns. haneul's sense of humour is quite broad and tends to laugh at generally everything. though she always has a spot for dad jokes and making puns
dark jokes. despite feeling guilty for laughing, haneul enjoys hearing of dark jokes and unknowingly finds her-self making jokes in similar fashion.
rain. "even clouds bottle up their feelings." she'd jokingly mention. but haneul does love the rain, she's the type who walks in the rain without an umbrella and just enjoys how relaxing it is. dancing in the rain were one of the first things she crossed off her list.
90s romcom movies. for a person who generally scrunches her nose at her sister being madly in love with her boyfriend, and inwardly says "gross" whenever she notices lovestruck and overly sweet couples, haneul's go to movies scream otherwise. her all time favourites are: you've got mail, notting hill, sleepless in seattle and 10 things i hate about you.
DISLIKES
piano. a shocking revelation not a lot of people know. haneul was on the verge of despising classical music as well due to bad memories connected to learning piano over the years with her stern piano teacher who would go through lengths just for her to practice and play perfectly such as hitting her hands with a ruler and yelling. though haneul had forced herself to gradually like it, by playing classical music and listening to it 24/7, there are moments where her mind travels back to those memories.
horror movies. haneul loves thrill and jumpscares, it doesn't affect her while watching but rather afterwards. her mind has tendencies of freaking her out by placing doubt causing her to feel paranoid.
falling ill. there's nothing worse to her than falling sick; she doesn't like wasting time and getting sick, in her opinion, is a complete waste of time.
being ordered around. it's one of her biggest peeves; whatever you tell her to do, she'll do the exact opposite just to spite you. it's not an issue if it's for the sake of her job, or if she was asked nicely. but the moment she can pick up on that aggressive behaviour and demanding tone of voice, it won't turn out pretty.
slow walkers. haneul won't really give a damn if you walk slow as long as you give space for her to go past. it's the moment when there's a group of people that walk in one long line, or there's a huge crowd that there's no way for her to get through. patience is a virtue, but not when it comes to side walks and hogging it.
rude customers. as ceo of 'fake it til you make it', haneul can handle the attitude of rude customer well. it's in the way she talks so politely and send a warm smile, but the moment they're out the door, she's the first one who'll talk crap about them. despite knowing she could get in trouble, haneul won't hesitate to call customers out if her coworkers are being disrespected.
HOBBIES
playing guitar or piano. it's quite instinctive for haneul to just grab her guitar or sit on her piano stool and go for it. she loves to randomly play and often times when she catches herself playing a nice tune, haneul will record it and keep it as a sample she'll hone on for the next few months.
watching movies. if she isn't busy or has no party to crash, then haneul watches a movie. she tends to pick a movie she's never watched or piqued her interest after reading the overview provided by the site, but there are lots of times where she merely watches a movie she's seen before.
nightly walks. it's dangerous, yes, she's aware and if seohee knew how often she does it then she'd be forced to live with her. there's something in a city that never sleeps that captivates her a lot; how despite the fact that it's 2am, the streets are still buzzing to the point where haneul would spend time just people watching.
art galleries&museums. haneul's love for galleries and museums was due to her grandpa, she always has fond memories related to such places and gravitates towards it especially if she feels upset.
bothering seohee. are you really siblings if you don't do this? seohee is always haneul's main target and has gotten used to it because of how her younger sister would randomly call or pay her a visit. seohee doesn't mind though because it's haneul's way of telling her that she misses her
TRIVIAS
at the end of 2020, haneul moved in the studio apartment her sister had invested in located at yeonhui-dong in seodaemun-gu
haneul graduated from seoul arts high school where she specialised in music specifically piano
her style of teaching is quite free, she tries her best to make lessons an enjoyable time for her students while ensuring they take something out of it to practice on. ridiculously good with kids and has tendencies to bribe with candy as means of incentives once they play the pieces perfectly before moving onto the next piece.

unless she has class, haneul only carries her phone and airpods
☁ fears losing her phone because it has everything on it like her cards

EXTRA NOTES.
haneul's currently teaching only five students for piano and guitar, meeting them once a week for half an hour but is flexible enough if they want an extra half hour of teaching.
since her students only stay with her between six months to a year, haneul's schedule eases and usually waits for a while till she gets new students. during that waiting period she merely grabs a couple of extra shifts at her jobs.
haneul often goes to myunghwi arts foundation due to her friends, ahri and boram, as ahri always bothers her to play the pieces she performs to.
now, seeing her working schedule, a question begs to be answered— does haneul sleep? and the answer is yes, of course. except it's very inconsistent. haneul generally runs on three to six hours of sleep, but hey, that's why she has a job at get well soon cafe.
haneul tends to struggle with doing assignments for theory classes without procrastinating, however it's the exact opposite when it comes to practicals.
haneul generally takes nightly walks and often quite late at night, but she's always walking where there's a crowd or a well-lit area.
studies at the library for her theory related subjects but for her practicals in composition, it varies as long as she has her bag though often times she's at home.

"grandpa, do you ever think they will ever forgive me?"

"of course, haneul. they'll come around— you're always going to be their little girl, like how you're always going to be to me."

haneul's grandfather has always been her number one supporter. in honesty, he's the reason as to why haneul fell deep in love with music. though he has numerous grandkids, and he doesn't like to pick favourites, hyeseong has a soft spot for haneul due to their love for music.

haneul has wonderful memories connected to her grandfather. he was the one who taught her how to ride a bike, the one who first taught her to play a simple tune on the guitar and piano, the one who flew kites with her and take her to the playground. although, as haneul grew up, their outings grew scarce, she always found a way to pay him a visit or a video call, text or call— however, now as she's a little older, she makes sure to take monthly visits to her grandparents.

haneul will always be thankful to have hyeseong as a grandpa. in a way, he's one of the reasons as to why she tries to strive well in her assignments, regardless of how stressful and taxing it can be. haneul will do everything in her power to make her grandpa proud, because the dream isn't just hers, but rather his too.

EXTRA NOTES.
hyeseong's dream during his youth was to be a musician, but had to give it up as he was the heir to his family's company
a kind, loving man to his kids, grandkids, and employees
☁ haneul generally confides to her grandpa a lot and whenever she asks for advice, hyeseong encourages her to try it out and see what happens, as according to his words, "how will you learn if you never experience it?"
☁ hyeseong assists in paying an amount of haneul's tuition fees since her parents won't support her financially
☁ haneul visits her grandparents once or twice a month, and often spends a day out with them
hyeseong lives in seongbuk-dong, a close neighbourhood to jongno-gu where she used to reside with her parents
☁ story time ;  the first time she snuck out of the house was at the age of thirteen. haneul faked being sick and managed to skip school. with lunch money she's saved up, haneul snuck out to buy beef soup beforing paying a visit to her grandparents as she heard that hyeseong fell ill. it led to her parents panicking that day until they found her at his place, playing piano to cheer hyeseong up. if hyeseong didn't intervene her parents furious outburst, she would have gotten grounded.

"how is your sister, seohee? has she been struggling with studies and work?"

"haneul's doing pleasantly well, father. you should see her, she seems very happy."

"we've made someone check on her. where's the happiness you speak of when she's working her bones off? haneul's always been the weaker one out of the both of you."

"trust me, mother. she's fine."

complicated. that's the only word that can truly described haneul's feelings and overall relationship with her parents.

haneul sincerely cherishes them even if she knows what she did has caused nothing but hurt and disappointment.

though haneul doesn't regret her choice, she does regret the way it caused a rift in a relationship that was already ever-so fragile. her decision to go against them felt like a way of disrespecting the time, effort and money they placed just to secure her with a stable future.

in some way, haneul knew it was done with best interest for her, in other ways, she also knew that the best interest they found for her was also for themselves to relish in the praise of having two daughters who've accomplished notable things.

haneul often lays at night when her thoughts especially linger to her parents. sometimes she can still hear the people she used to be surrounded by, especially her parents, who would compare her ruthlessly to seohee. sometimes she has flashbacks of when they would show her that she isn't as good as seohee, therefore she's not good enough.

it's memories and thoughts like those that causes her to feel so suffocated, and it reminds her as to why she truly left. to no longer feel that suffocation and intense pressure of being someone else.

haneul loves her parents, but if she spent another year following the dream and life they made for her, she would probably spiral to rock bottom and bid farewell to sanity.

ever since haneul has left home, she has not stepped foot back or has paid a visit. haneul generally gets updates from her sister or her grandparents, she's aware of how much she might regret it, especially with how easy life can come and go, but haneul's afraid to return home.

not when she knows they'll look at her with disaffection.

"i cried for an hour but that's life. i have to move on."

"you cried over your pet fish for a lot longer than that."

"well yeah, because you flushed it down the toilet."

"that wasn't my fault— anyways, i'm gonna egg his car and you can't stop me."

haneul has always looked up to seohee. literally and figuratively. she had always been eloquent, smart and mature that it wasn't hard to gravitate towards her, to shower her in adoration.

for the longest time, haneul tried to mold herself to becoming like her and eventually, it ended up with haneul despising seohee. a secret she's never told a soul til this day; that in her pursuit to be as great as her older sister, she ended up secretly loathing her for a period of time.

yet whenever seohee came with that sweet smile, warm affection and treats to visit her, she began to hate herself instead. seohee didn't do anything wrong, in fact she did everything right which is why seohee was always first in their parents' affection, why she was the one always praised.

haneul and seohee drifted apart when she was in middle school. they were already distant due to their and the fact that seohee moved to ewha's dorms, but haneul's inferiority complex made it worse over those three years; they barely talked even if seohee was visiting home.

it wasn't until haneul's years at high school, where she began to focus on who she wanted to be, that they began to talk again and haneul made efforts to visit her in her university. since then, they became close again and even more so when they had to live together for a year when haneul decided to leave home.

haneul wouldn't dare to hate her older sister ever again. now that she's older, looking back to the past, seohee was her knight in shining armour; seohee was the one who would defend her from her parents, tell her that she was doing great, and supported her decision to take a risk in order to pursue her dream.

and though seohee strays away from being emotional, she does feel bad knowing that she might have indirectly brought pain to haneul growing up. she's aware that it isn't her fault, but it didn't change the fact that haneul had been hurt. regardless of whether her younger sister says it or not.

which is why seohee will always strive to be a good sister, one that haneul can always look up to and lean onto.

EXTRA NOTES.
seohee and haneul got closer to each other in a year of living together than the amount of time they spent living at home
☁ when haneul met seohee's ex boyfriend for the first time, she didn't like him. even as time had passed, she still didn't like him
"i don't like him, sorry."
"okay, why not?"
"i don't know, bad vibes."
"that's not reasonable enough."
☁ so when seohee told her what her ex boyfriend did to her, the first thing she said was, "see? i told you he had bad vibes!"
☁ haneul and seohee aren't the type of siblings who like to talk about their feelings
☁ they just generally banter and argue for fun; haneul always mocks or teases her and seohee isn't the type who backs down
☁ seohee always babies her; it's in the way she'll always give her the bigger half of shared food, or how she buys her snacks
☁ haneul's favourite hobby is to bother seohee via kakaotalk and in person; sometimes she rocks up to her apartment, other times she bothers her to eat lunch with her and on rare occasions visits her when they're on campus
☁ story time ;  the longest time seohee got mad at her was the time haneul flushed her pet fish down the toilet. haneul was nine at the time, the fish in seohee's bowl was at the very bottom of it and after tapping it a number of times, it didn't move. being nine and naive, haneul thought they'll have to grab a new fish and had decided to grab the bowl before heading to the bathroom where seohee, who excused herself during her piano lesson, walked into haneul pouring the contents out into the toilet bowl before flushing it. only then did the fish begin to move and by the time they realised, it was all too late. seohee cried and got really mad at her, refusing to speak to her for two days. haneul felt terrible and immediately went with her grandpa to buy her a new fish, eventually they reconciled but til now, the memory is still brought up.

"haneul i missed a step can you start again from the bridge?"

"a quick question— do you guys not have a pianist or something? why are you two always calling me to play?"

"they're not as obedient."

ahri is rather quiet and reserved at first. it wasn't until haneul had approached boram and ahri that she got to see her past the shy first interactions. ahri, once she's warmed up to others, is bubbly and kind. she's sensitive to other people around her and uses her empathetic skills to connect with them, even through art.

to haneul, ahri is probably one of the most artistic people she has ever met. she dances, can sing, she knows how to draw, even if she says that she can't. seeing as how she struggles expressing emotions verbally, ahri uses the art of dancing to express it in the same way haneul does with her music.

knowing that ahri doesn't like to ask for help, haneul responds to her requests the most since ahri wouldn't seek assistance unless necessary, or it's for her dream.

this has led to ahri and boram to constantly asking her to play for them during their practices, even back in high school. seeing that haneul feels a sense of gratitude towards them for inspiring and helping her strive for her dream, she happily does it; anything to see them succeed.

EXTRA NOTES.
haneul's nickname for her is dancing queen, referencing the abba song which she also sings loudly just to embarrass ahri
ahri along with boram was in the grade below haneul back in high school
when ahri learnt that haneul took up ballet for a little bit, she got really excited and since then babbles nonstop to her about it, a relief on boram's end who did not understand
☁ haneul has learnt more about ballet in the years she's spent hanging out with ahri and boram than the years she took ballet as an extracurricular activity
☁ ahri is the most competitive of the three, which is why haneul and boram jokingly asks her why she's not in sports
☁ story time ;  ahri back in high school would often sneak out to buy snacks and drinks that was never offered in canteen, and to cover for her, haneul and boram would often distract the teacher doing supervision in exchange for chocolate milk (boram) and milk bread (haneul) which they'd share during the same break on the school's rooftop.

"because you love us so much that you're willing to play!"

"if you forget to buy me food like last time, you're on your own."

out of the three friends, boram is the baby. it's more so because she's the youngest and also the smollest. whenever the three of them stand together, they joke that haneul and ahri are boram's bodyguards which is somewhat true.

boram is the most emotionally vulnerable out of them, the one who expresses emotions freely and encourages haneul and ahri to do the same. essentially, she acts as the glue, keeping both of them in touch with their feelings instead of just pushing it aside like haneul, or internalising it like ahri. it also works out well since haneul and ahri are equally as stubborn, thus boram balances it all out.

however, haneul has to admit it. though boram and ahri are the closest friends she has, the two girls are a lot closer than they're closer to haneul. perhaps, even they're aware of that.

no one's really at fault, that's just how it goes right? in a group of three, there'll always be two who are closer. neither of them find it an issue, despite being aware, after all haneul has always been the type who floats from a group to another, while boram and ahri have been friends since they've been in diapers.

and though, haneul has always floated from group to group even in high school, she always found her way back to them anyways.

EXTRA NOTES.
boram is the quietest one out of the three of them, but also the loudest once she's opened up
the most self-critical and likes to make self deprecating jokes more often than haneul; it leads to the three of them bickering as haneul and ahri team up against boram and her self-esteem
the most wholesome and soff within the group, always initiates hugs which they happily return
the passive one in the group, she often hesitates in ahri and haneul's schemes but ends up having the most fun
though they're funny in their own ways, boram's tendency to be unintentionally blunt causes big laughter in the group
☁ story time ;  as an april fools' joke, boram pranked ahri and haneul by pretending to have an intense pain on the right side of her stomach. seeing her burst in tears and laying on the ground from the "agonising pain" was so convincing that ahri began to cry and haneul panicked as she had began to lift her with her might to the clinic. it wasn't until boram's laugh caused them to pause and realise she was just joking. she ended up buying the snacks and drinks that day as punishment.

"good morning hada! i made you coffee before we start our shift!"

"oh cool. thanks haneul! do you want anything?"

"yes, your loving kindness and open heart. do you wanna eat lunch with me for our break?"

haneul first met hada at get well soon cafe during her first shift. though seohee tends to ridicule her preference in considering a person's “vibes” as a logical and valid reasoning, hada’s shy but warm disposition instantly got her in haneul’s good books.

haneul and hada is the prime example of an extrovert taking in an introvert. haneul initiates and offers to eat lunch together or take breaks together, while hada accepts, often because she can't say no. the quiet moments in the cafe are usually when haneul's initiating conversations with her coworkers and it usually ends up being hada.

it’s those seemingly ordinary, but rather meaningful, events in the day where haneul learns more about hada and her life. the more haneul knows more about hada, the more she admires her strength and determination.

in a way hada reminds her of all the things she takes, and taken, for granted. it’s those moments where she starts to reflect upon herself; their circumstances are far too different and haneul will probably never understand the hardships hada’s gone through.

but meeting hada inspires her to improve herself; to be a lot more selfless and appreciative of her life, to be a good person.

honestly, haneul isn’t really sure what the exact requirements are to be considered a good person— to her, it seems subjective because doesn’t everyone have a different opinion on what they consider to be good?

but if there’s anything that she’s absolutely sure about, it's that regardless the various opinions of what "good" is, yong hada is someone everyone can consider a good person.

EXTRA NOTES.
hada is often at the receiving end of haneul's pick up lines in get well soon cafe and she has gotten too used to it to be fazed
haneul can sense when hada feels reluctant to agree with her offers, so she always reassures her that it's ok if she says no
☁ when haneul starts to sing "americano~" she would try to make her coworkers sing the next bit ("좋아 좋아 좋아") with her and now it's a gwsc thing
sometimes they walk together to yonsei when they have class after their shifts
at the beginning of their shifts, haneul and hada exchange food or drinks
story time ;  hada taught her how to work the coffee machine for the very first time. it was one of the most embarrassing things haneul did which she wishes to forget. haneul spilt all the ready espressos over the counter and some of it ended up on her and hada. it was the worst timing as they didn't have their aprons on. haneul gave hada her hoodie to change into as hada only wore a shirt that day, proceeding to joke the moment she put it on, "you know what that's made out of? girlfriend material."

"so you must be haneul. i heard a lot about you from seohee."

"ooh the prince of engineering! a pleasure to meet you. i hope her stories are all positive."

"most of them are. but is it true you flushed her pet fish?"

haneul knows of haesol from the university's homepage. he's the talk of the town even from those outside his department, and as haneul befriends students from different departments, she also hears stories about haesol.

but haneul also knows of haesol in the way he knows of her, via her older sister. upon learning of seohee and haesol's friendship, haneul became curious whether he's as nice as the stories of him portray him to be. based on the stories alone, haneul felt like he had 'good vibes' but seeing she knew nothing about him, haneul was a bit skeptical.

"does he have good vibes?"
"do you always determine others based on their 'vibes'?"
"i don't care that much to be honest, i just wanna know."
"fine, he does have good vibes or whatever you call it."

it wasn't until haneul visited her older sister at the programming club to finally confirm for herself. he did have good vibes, and she didn't hesitate to tell him that.

haneul and haesol don't interact much. but strangely when they do, haesol ends up learning a lot about seohee through her. since they don't talk often and merely greet each other in passing, she hasn't picked up on the fact that their conversations, when they have one, end up revolving her older sister.

but it's only a matter of time.

EXTRA NOTES.
seohee initially thought that haneul had a crush on haesol as she kept asking questions about him which was rare since haneul never asks about other people
haneul immediately shut that assumption down because sure he was good looking, but she's not interested one bit
haesol and haneul can relate to each other well due to their role as being the younger sibling
when seohee told haesol the story of how haneul flushed her pet fish, he laughed so hard that he nearly choked on his drink
story time ;  once haneul ran into haesol at get well soon cafe where he walked in looking very exhausted and stressed. usually haneul greets customers with a genuine compliment, but when it got to haesol all she could say to him was, "i don't want hate from your fans but you just really look dead inside, sunbae. would you like an extra shot or two in your coffee? i'll give it to you for free."

life direction
when asked about where she sees herself in five years time, haneul's best response is to flash her sweet smile while she nonchalantly shrugs.

perhaps it's due to the lack of consideration she has for her future, but haneul can't imagine herself and what she'd be doing in five years time. heck, even in a year's time.

if not for her desire to finish her degree and how she's technically broke, haneul would have gotten up and left the country—to live a whole new life where no one knows who she is.

but haneul loves to live in the present, she jumps into things without ever looking back and if it leads to pain or suffering then so be it. if she dies then and there, that's okay too. as long as haneul lived trying to achieve things she hoped for, and that's the thing with haneul; she has lots of hopes and enough determination to attempt reaching for it.

haneul hopes to do anything related to music, be it a composer, teacher, musician, or part of some band or orchestra. she doesn't really know but if an opportunity arises that catches her eye, haneul will run towards it and simply go for it.

haneul also hopes to be an inspiration to people, even for a short while. she wants to be someone that encourages people to reach for their dreams, to live life to the fullest doing things they love and around people who love them.

but if haneul truly had to be honest with herself, what she hopes for is to make her parents proud and become a better person through her journey. to show them that she made the right decision, that the path she chose wasn't just the road not  taken but the flowery path to true happiness.

interview
HELLO, IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU. NOW, BEFORE WE START, CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?
haneul politely bows, a winsome smile gracing her face once she sits upright, "i'm nam haneul, i'm turning twenty one, and i'm currently a student at yonsei. oh, and it's really nice to meet you!"

WHAT ARE YOUR CURRENT GOALS  IN LIFE? DO YOU HAVE A LIFE MOTTO OR PRINCIPLE YOU LIVE BY?
haneul draws out a long breath before chuckling, "are the rest of the questions going to be this deep and personal?" she asks first, watching the interviewer flash her a quiet smile, "nice! finally i get the good stuff instead of the boring surveys." haneul cheers, humming for a while as she thinks of what to say, "i don't know actually?" a sheepish grin makes it way to her lips, "i don't really think about this. not get hit by a bus, i guess?" haneul takes another pause, "life mottos are kinda lame to say out loud but, live each day as if it's your last would probably be it. cringe, i know. i sound like a walking tumblr quote but it's true."

WHAT ARE THREE WORDS YOU IMAGINE PEOPLE DESCRIBE YOU AS?
"reckless." haneul blurts out, her parents suddenly pop up in her mind and her grin falters for a mere second before regaining her composure, the grin on her face beaming, as if nothing happened, "i've been told i'm a social butterfly," she adds on and takes another second to think, "oh! and my friends tell me i'm a flirt, but i swear i don't mean it!"

HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED LATER IN LIFE?
silence fills the room as haneul takes a rather long pause. there's so many ways she could answer it: a part of her doesn't wish to be remembered later in life, another part wishes she wants to be known as a musician, yet haneul pushes all her thoughts aside to genuinely answer, a soft smile playing on her lips, "a good person who lived her life with no regrets."

ANY LAST WORDS BEFORE WE END? IT'S BEEN GREAT HAVING YOU.
haneul lets out a small coo, a hand on her chest, "awh, that's so wholesome. it was great talking to you!" she responds happily, "i still don't know what this was for but i had a good time. thank you for having me, i hope you take good care of yourself." haneul bows one last time before getting up from her seat. "do you need help with anything or are you all good?" the interviewer shakes their head, giving a thumbs up which she mirrors in response, "alright then, see you around hopefully!"

CURRENT STATUS
not looking on both of their ends. there's not a lot of people that pique haneul's interest and she prefers to soley focus on whatever she has on her plate.

haneul and paran for the most part were more focused on their dreams and aspirations. better yet, they still have a long way to go in terms of self improvement and growth.

but what they both have to realise, or haneul at least, is that the journey and process of growth can sometimes require two people to help one another and improve for the better.

and while haneul isn't one who truly believes in fate, meeting yeon paran that day will be more than enough to change her mind.

THE STORY
act i. scene i.
prior to meeting paran, haneul already knew a lot about him, thanks to ahri. even before she met the guy, she heard of his circumstance; a talented dancer held back from performing due to some strange reason.

haneul, albeit rarely interested in others' affairs especially ones she's never met, became very curious as to who this cute guy her friend could not stop mentioning. cute and talented? as if.

ahri and boram's tendencies to relentlessly beg her to be their pianist usually ends up with her complaining over the phone as she heads over in a heart beat. she thought it would simply be another ordinary day where she grumbles as she grabs the music sheets and instantly head to the piano in the corner of the room to briefly go over the piece.

but she finds herself standing on the opposite of paran, and that was the moment haneul had been proven wrong. he was cute. really cute. and as she saw him dance, she had to eat her own words. while haneul hated being wrong, for once, she was glad that she was.

act i. scene ii.
though paran was cute, haneul quickly got over it and returned to her echo chamber of "i'm not interested" but she'd be lying if she said paran never caught her eye after that.

in fact, he did. even in a room full of dancers as talented as him, haneul's gaze would never fail to land on paran as she'd watch him move gracefully. paran was indeed talented, but what was holding him back?

haneul wasn't one who liked to beat around the bush, if she was curious then she'll ask about it without hesitation. and normally, haneul could not care less to even try and ask about others' personal affairs unless they open up first. but  when haneul saw the perfect opportunity, she seized it and asked the question she wanted answered by paran.

"you're a talented dancer. why aren't you, like, portraying prince albrecht or romeo yet?"

"i want to. i do, so badly."

there was sincerity and desparation in paran's voice that tugged on her heart strings. and as he explained his situation, haneul couldn't help but feel empathy for him.

"but what can i do? even if i can never find true happiness in anything else, she knows better."

"sure, your sister knows better, but what's the point in knowing where your true happiness is if you don't do anything about it?"

in a way, she could relate to him and in another way, haneul also couldn't understand. perhaps, it's because she took that leap of faith and how she finds joy because of it, but she also had to take in consideration how they're different from one another.

and though haneul would tell herself not to be so affected by paran's circumstance, there was something in her that wanted to see him break free. to do what he loved most.

act ii. scene i.
eventually, the pair became really close that it didn't take long for haneul to begin bothering him. they constantly encountered each other in get well soon cafe, at yonsei campus, or even at random parties that it wasn't hard for them to get to know each other better. soon enough, paran was someone haneul could consider as a close friend and it showed in how she'd pick hanging out with him than tag along to another group's activity, how she's memorised his go to order at get well soon cafe, or when she would send him memes that reminded her of him.

it's the simple things she would do for ahri and boram, for other friends and family. but there is just one thing though.

haneul doesn't know why she cares so much about trying to help paran reach his dream. in a sense, she could argue that she does it for ahri and boram—even back in high school, she would play for them and it was to help them be better at their art, to help them in achieving the dreams and hopes they long for.

but if she had to be honest, a lot of it was out of a sense of gratitude because, if not for them, haneul would still be living miserably.

haneul likens it to the fact that she saw herself in him back when she was living according to her parents' dreams and expectations. it was a time where every moment and decision was as if she was walking on egg shells, and haneul wouldn't wish that upon anyone. especially not paran.

so instead of aggressively forcing him, haneul decides to give him a push by asking him to do demos for her so she could "convey the feeling better" or how she'd purposely play the pieces terribly until he gives in to her requests.

and soon enough, haneul went from constantly complaining about being used as boram and ahri's personal pianist, to willingly coming into myunghwi art foundation, even going ahead to befriend the receptionist at the front.

still, haneul doesn't exactly know as to why she was doing this. but she knows that she enjoys his company, how he's a genuinely good friend and the moments they share is something that she looks forward to. it's out of friendship, and as paran's friend, haneul wants to help him be free and be happy, in the same way boram and ahri helped her out before.

it was her turn to sow kindness and it was her turn to help someone she cared about do what they love.

act ii. scene ii.
the only times haneul felt jealousy was when her sister would achieve something and lead to her being undermined.

but somehow seeing ahri and paran dance as a pair, despite knowing how it's merely just for performance, irked her. was it jealousy? who knows, haneul doesn't want to think it as such. why would she be jealous, right? they were just friends. nothing more, nothing less.

yet jealousy truly striked in her heart when ahri had confided to her that she had feelings for paran.

haneul was pretty good at covering emotions, but she also wasn't surprised. the girl had been gushing over him for a while, it was bound to happen. she's surprised ahri didn't tell her way earlier. in fact, haneul wished she told her prior to befriending paran because that would have been so much easier to put distance between them.

but it's a little too late now that they were close.

yet haneul, trying to maintain her disinterested attitude, had merely shrugged and told ahri to go for it. and although haneul never regrets her decisions, that was the first time she wished she could take her words back.

act iii. scene i.
after ahri's confession, haneul felt aggravated. despite her attempt of moving forward and to get over it, haneul found herself thinking on the situation. ahri's words echoed in her mind, the memory still clear as day, as if she was in a time loop. why was she so bothered by it?

haneul began to think, and overthink. she'd lay in bed and it's all she could think about, tossing and turning because haneul just wants to sleep but her imagination wouldn't let her rest. it was slowly affecting her as she began to lose focus and suddenly, haneul always seemed to be so lost in her thoughts. it wasn't like her to be so affected by something, or even someone.

shouldn't she be happy? haneul even told her to go for it. as she kept thinking over it, haneul began to become frustrated, more so at herself because she didn't like what was happening to her. haneul wanted answers and wanted to see the reason why she was acting like that. why is it so irritating to her? but haneul didn't want to seek help from people who were close to her. especially when what was she feeling towards the situation had no concrete reasoning.

and in her attempt of distracting herself from it, by attending a random yonsei party, she found herself opening up to a random stranger about it as they sat outside, inches away from the buzzing scene. haneul saw the opportunity to ask them instead, and without hesitating she grabbed it.

although she felt weird opening up to someone she's never met, and probably never will meet again, at least they could leave the party with a memory of having a meaningful conversation that might never happen again. haneul and the stranger spent an hour or two opening up to each other without including names, knowing it'll stay safe between the two of them.

when haneul had to explain, she didn't use the "friend of a friend" nonsense and opted to say it how it was: she has a friend who likes their mutual friend, she told her to go for it but now she can't stop thinking about the situation and what will happen after.

"i don't even know why i'm irritated, y'know?"

"do you like them?"

"who?"

"the mutual friend."

a simple question. so simple but so hard to try and answer that haneul could only grow quiet. being asked that question felt like they poured buckets of ice water on her.

haneul, who wasn't one that liked looking back on things, gets transported to all the memories and moments she shared with paran, of paran. those times when she would wink at him to see him flustered, when they visit art galleries and museums for 'educational purposes' only to go up to the display and say "look it's you" or have a joke ready, moments when paran would walk her home during her late night shifts only to be side tracked as they have ice cream on the way, or when paran sits next to her and terribly play the piano during break at practices.

did she like paran?

paran who she would think of as she grabs her guitar or settles on the piano stool before freely playing a tune so light, airy and happy that she keeps them as samples with lyrics that were subconsciously of him. paran who she sends a selfie of her and a random puppy because she knows he'd be excited too. paran who she'd grab by the wrist as they sprint when she sees a talent agent approaching him, breathelessly laughing moments later once they find a place to hide.

yeon paran, the boy coincidentally named after her favourite colour—a fact that haneul always joked about, unaware how true the sentiment was going to be.

haneul never answered the question as she fell into a hush. but to the stranger, and to herself, her silence screamed the answer.

yes, haneul did like paran.
way more than she thought.

act iii. scene ii.
with her newfound revelation, haneul decided not to do anything about it. not even mention it or think of it— well, she thought of it. a lot. for an excessive amount during the day.

but she chose not to do anything about it. the best course of action was to not take action. it would be a lot less complicated that way.

besides, no one knows about the feelings she was starting to harbour. except for the stranger haneul talked with at the party. but no one else knew, and she planned to keep it that way. it's just small and she can shoot it down before it gets bigger. haneul's good at pretending and she'll keep a facade going until she's done with annihilating her growing feelings.

haneul still kept going to myunghwi for ahri and paran. strangely, it felt tense and awkward this time around. it was always haneul and ahri, or haneul and paran. but still, they no longer had the same interactions as before.

ahri tells her that the confession didn't go well, and immediately, haneul pushed aside her own feelings to focus on her friend. it explained a lot to paran's strange behaviour and though she can understand his response, haneul felt that it wasn't fair for either of them.

in all honesty, haneul has never been a middle man type. she's good at being a neutral party, and not so much a mediator. but for ahri, she had to be even if it was uncomfortable for her.

haneul's only opportunity to address the issue was during the one on one sessions they had. she figured it would have been better to ask him before they ending the practice, but for her peace of mind, haneul decided to ask straight away during warm up.

"so, about ahri..." she mentions as she plays lightly, her gaze shifting from the keys to his reflection on the mirror, "have you ever said anything about it?"

seeing him give a small shrug causes haneul to immediately pull her fingers away from the keys and her foot off the piano pedal, allowing nothing but their voices to fill the room.

"paran, you can't always stay like this. yeah, i know, it's fight or flight—but how long do you want to do this for?"

"i don't want to hurt or offend anybody."

"and you think you're not hurting anyone by saying nothing?" she blurted, "if you think so, you're wrong. it's not any better, if not even worse."

as haneul watches paran adjust the ribbons on his pointe, she exhales lightly as her tone of voice softens, "listen, i'm not here to ask if you could date ahri, i'm here to tell you that you've got to say something instead of looking like a douchebag by leaving her up in the air."

"because how are you going to reach for your dreams, do the things you love, or love who you want if you're not willing to say what you want or feel?"

and for a moment, haneul feels like a fraud and a hypocrite for telling him words that even she couldn't do.

INTERACTIONS
haneul and paran's first few interactions were a bit awkward, but as they became closer to one another, you could tell they were good friends.

haneul treats paran like any of her friends with how she would joke around and hang out with him. although, if you asked her, she'd always pick paran to hang out with than the others in her contact list; they shared the same interests and haneul appreciates how well he responds to her and her jokes, let alone schemes.

if there was anything to note about haneul as a friend, it's the fact that she'll jokingly flirt to get a reaction and paran was the perfect person to get responses from. haneul loves how paran's face would get so red whenever she winks at him after playfully making a flirty comment and even more so when she tells him how cute he is when he blushes. everyone else would roll their eyes or pretend to gag, but paran always gave her the reaction she wanted and at times, he'd even try to one up her which haneul never backs down from.

though as time goes on, it begins to dawn on haneul just how much they hung out. she used to reason the fact that their schedules merely collided a lot, but haneul had realised how she always preferred his company, and how paran had gotten really close to her to the extent that she does things with him that she wouldn't had normally done such as letting him crash at her place, or taking late night walks.

prior to realising her true feelings, paran was just a close friend to her. their friendship was as close, if not even closer than her friendship with ahri and boram. but in a way, it began to feel different.

ENDING
haneul would definitely be too hesitant to even shoot her shot. for once in her life, she's trying not to dive head first into things and cause an entire mess. but it's also not helping her as the more haneul overthinks, the more confusing it gets. seeing that she's the type who thinks little of her emotions, often pushing it aside to deal with later, haneul only realises her feelings for paran after ahri confides to her. she'll more or less act the same around paran, while trying to shoot down her own feelings into oblivion until he asks her and only then will haneul answer truthfully. that yes, she does like him. way too much that she won't hesitate any longer.

like anything she does, haneul will jump right in blindly, and though the mere thought of what could happen in the future will begin to petrify her, haneul will always chose to live her life to the fullest in the present day. and being in the present, meant being with yeon paran.

BLUESKY SAMPLES
although haneul always tries to send paran home in the midst her shifts and teases him on his excuses, she appreciates how he walks her home at night
haneul bought pyjamas for him just so paran could change into something more comfortable whenever he crashes at her place
☁ paran's laughter is the only one that matters to her. if she was in a room where no one else had laughed apart from paran, then everyone else just has bad taste
☁ haneul always searches for new music but does it more often to make him playlists; she likes to gift him playlists and eventually, songs
☁ paran's the only person who has made her feel flustered after he one ups her lines
☁ "you're even cuter when you blush."
☁ haneul has gotten into the habit of grabbing his wrist as she drags him to places, although once they get together, it'll change into a habit of holding his hand. she definitely used "your hand looks heavy, let me hold it for you" as an excuse to hold his hand at first
even if haneul tries to play it as a joke, all of the compliments she tells him are genuine
haneul loves to take photos of him smiling or laughing, "regardless of how cute it is, i'm not going to post it online. besides, i don't like to share what's mine."
haneul's grandfather can tell when people are special to his grandkid when she mentions them to him and haneul talks a lot about paran
paran is generally haneul's main inspiration whenever she composes; even before she had realised her feelings for him

COMPOSITION OF BLUESKY
infectious laughter, playful winks and finger guns, mint choco ice cream, shared earbuds, out of context memes, pick up lines, late night walks, gifting playlists, drunken twirls, terribly played piano, petting random dogs.

☁ my prince; in paran's attempt as a one up against her flirts and to get her flustered, he asked haneul if him being prince charming would mean she'd be his princess (fun!fact it worked, her heart did a doki doki) and refusing to lose the battle, haneul refuted with, "i could be your princess. or just yours, my prince."

to haneul, yeon paran is a warm hug. the kind that melts you the moment you get engulfed, the one that brings a smile on your face. then again, maybe she's just a simp for him.

paran is loved and adored by the people around him, and rightfully so. they're so different in the way how he's considerate of other people; putting their feelings into mind before taking action, showing acts of kindness and being genuinely good.

it's the same way that haneul thinks of yong hada as a good person. though the standards of what one considers to be a 'good person' varies from one person to the next, haneul can tell that hada and paran were just one of those people that anyone would consider a good person.

paran is also someone haneul wants to protect to the best of her abilities; he's rather passive at times and his inability to say 'no' could get him being taken advantaged of. between the line of being nice and being too nice, he was always too nice.

and though it's something that concerns her—because what if he ends up taking the blame for a murder he's never even known?—it's also something that haneul loves about him; the fact that he wears his golden heart on his sleeve.

while haneul wouldn't call themselves as polar opposites, haneul and paran were certainly different from each other. yet to her, she finds so much beauty in it and opportunities out of it.

if there's anything they share in common personality wise, it's haneul and paran's affinity to live life to the fullest. with their differences, haneul can see themselves using their present to help one another grow and improve as people for the near or distant future.

if haneul had to be honest, she fears the future and holding on attachments even more so because of how much she loves paran. they say that a person can never forget their first love, or how first love is hard to beat.

and while haneul is grateful her first love is someone as kind and loving as paran, she fears of what would happen if things go wrong.

regardless, she'll focus on what she has now with paran because maybe that's the thrill of our lives. to love, to hurt, to experience, and we have no choice but to enjoy the ride.

COMMENTS
after a million years i've completed her lmAO. i think i have a lot of notes so i'll just place them below the password so it's less cluttered at the top. apologies for the length of this app by the way, but i truly hope you enjoy her!

SCENE SUGGESTIONS
☁ haneul egging the car seohee's ex-boyfriend has and maybe have haesol joining in on the fun :"D
☁ nam sibling moments let's gaur
☁ haneul catching on to haesol's one sided crush
☁ depiction of first love with paran and haneul
☁ haneul and her parents finally making up

PASSWORD don't tell seohee, but it's hada heh

NOTES
☁ since the education system where i currently live is different to the one in korea, i actually struggled as to whether haneul would be able to graduate hs by 2019?? thus, if there are any discrepancies with that then i can just scrap the fact that haneul took a gap year and yeet her straight to uni
☁ haneul's sideline as a piano/guitar teacher is only through word of mouth, it's nothing official which is why she generally has around 2-5 students and they come and go. i think it'd be hard for someone her age to be a professional teacher so her business is just a casual thing
☁ sky jams (haneul's youtube channel) is inspired by channels like gyoshi, yujin guitar, million eyes, hantze
☁ i'm gonna leave how ahri will react to haneul and paran getting together bc i'm vv indecisive :"D
☁ prior to my collab with runa, i actually had plans to make haneul channel her inner 2016 jeon jungkook by being an ~international playgirl~
☁ i feel as if there's a lot of inconsistencies with her and in a sense, haneul feels almost unrealistic but idk lmao im really fried rn
