APPEARANCE

— granted, kyler is not tall as mystic or ash from paradox, heck he's smaller than woojin (kyler: only by 4 cms!) but he stands at 175 cms and weighs 58 kilograms. throughout their debut, his hair changes drastically, he dyes it, chops it, grows it out, dyes it again so basically #savekylersscalp. but everyone agrees that the white haired kyler with the shaved sides is superior (x) he's pretty blind without glasses so he only ends up wearing glasses in the dorms or at the airport.

— moles scatter kyler's body, but the ones that stand out the most are the ones on his right hand, right over the knuckle where his middle finger meets his hand and one that's on his neck and more like a bruise rather than a mole (think renjun's mole on his hand). some members actually like to mess with him about that bruise, calling it a hickey and what not.

— he wears a lot of clip-on earrings for performances and variety shows and whatnot. but his ears aren't pierced, surprisingly. he was surprisingly never interested in piercings but he might end up changing his mind in the future.

the first thing that people notice about kyler when they first meet him is that he's quiet. almost too quiet. that's mainly because he prefers to listen than talk and is big on observing. he just loves figuring out little details about people and small cues that other people around them may not pick up on. kyler trusts his gut feelings a lot, since he spent quite a bit of time in the mountains when he was young and learned to believe his instincts. if he tells you that something is wrong and that it's just a feeling if you ask him why, you best believe in him because 99% he is right. kyler is a giver. he enjoys taking care of people he cherishes and loves and is usually satisfied when he sees that s are happy and cheerful. if he sees one member who's not smiling, he'll be by their side in a second, either ready to listen if they need to rant or just keep them company until they feel better, usually accompanied by cuddles. kyler is also a peacemaker, he's often known as the mediator. he’ll listen to both sides first during an argument before coming to a conclusion. this is especially helpful for heated fights; where he can wait for both sides to cool down before talking to them.

kyler has great attention to detail, which shows itself clearly in both everyday situations and in performances. this is the virgo in him, focusing on even the smallest details. while this is a good thing, this can also have negative consequences as well, as he's often so into details that he may forget about the overall picture. kyler is also, like most of the members of pyrite, a savage. he's witty, has great sense of timing and going hand-in-hand with his attention to detail, knows where to hit it that hurts. so people who are at the receiving end of his roasting are often left speechless.

going along with his peacemaker personality, kyler hates confrontations. he'd much rather find common ground and make peace, refusing to face his own issues and preferring to run away. he also tends to get really worried when something happens to one of his loved ones, this is another trait he picked up from the times spent in the mountains because "you never know what can happen." kyler can also be resentful at times, which might end up being one of his downfalls. he can forgive, yes but he never forgets what has happened. he has a good memory and this also works when he's being savage. also let me tell you something, that boy is indecisive as hell. since he's always open to trying out new things, for example if he goes to a café. his usual order in that café would be iced americano. but there's a new chocolate hazelnut macchiato that looks so good and he'd love to try it. so he's usually caught up in that sort of conflict.

BACKGROUND

kyler wang was born wang junyun on september 18, 1999 in shanghai, china as the only child and son of wang wei and wen jiayi. if you ask him about shanghai, he doesn't remember it at all because in 2001, when he was 2, his family packed up and moved to denver, colorado, united states after his father found a job in a big firm as an accountant there. so the wang family moved to usa and that's when he picked up the name kyler.

if you ask him what he does remember from his childhood, kyler will tell you that he has vague memories of his mother dancing around in their kitchen with him in his arms and his mother teaching him how to dance. he started dancing at 3 years old and gradually improved over time. he also remembers all the hikes he took on denver's mountains along with his family, which improved his physical condition and he learned to always trust his gut feelings.

in 2008, kyler was only 9 years old when he came across his father watching a korean music show on their tv where a group of 5 boys were dancing and needless to say, he fell in love. he dreamt of being like them, and standing on stage one day. he later on learned that the group was named shinee and the song he had heard was "replay", their debut song. shinee has been one of his role models ever since.

in the summer of 2014, the wang family took a vacation to south korea. as he was walking around the streets of hongdae, he stopped to watch a group of people performing on the street and he couldn't take his eyes off the boy in the middle who was more so a proficient rapper. learning of the company name from another audience member, kyler made a spontaneous decision; he would audition for that company, which was named fly high entertainment. so he did. and he got accepted.

his parents' reactions... his mother was extremely supportive, since she always knew her son wanted to be an idol. his father was reluctant at first since he was very devoted to his son and didn't want to part from him but kyler assured him that he would be okay. so with his parents' blessings, off he went to south korea.

TRAINING

kyler joined fly high entertainment in late 2014, just in time to train with missy and the original trio: min joonho, main dance/vocal and the boy he saw performing that day, bang woojin. he became fast friends with all of them and as he was one of the youngest among the trainees, he was babied by them, most especially woojin who took him under his wing after learning that kyler essentially joined fly high thanks to him.

the other trainees trickled in until june 2016 and that's when fly high entertainment decided to sort some of the boys into a pre-debut team named fh boyz (temporary name obviously), who would be a performance oriented group; every member was expected to be a solid dancer and the dance oriented members were expected to be outstanding. and in 2017, specialized trainings began.

in 2017, kyler was sent to los angeles alongside joonho, main dance/vocal and main dance/vocal #2. although it wasn't the area he grew up in, it was a nice change from korea, where he had been for 3 years. he certainly missed the states, the food, the familiar sights, basically everything.

however, as they continued their stay, joonho started acting out, drinking, partying, basically breaking the company's rules. kyler didn't know anything about it, he only overheard it once from main dance/vocal as the other boy was in charge of reporting everything back to woojin to korea. eventually, the remainder of the boys arrive to los angeles and it's a great time again. kyler is happy.

joonho gets worse after it's just the dancers again, getting more into drinking and partying and breaking the company's rules again. after the dance trainees returned from los angeles in december, eventually, joonho stopped coming to training altogether. kyler was shocked to hear about what joonho had done and that it was way worse than what main dance/vocal had reported. woojin was eventually made leader and the group, now named pyrite, trained for one more year before debuting.

— yet another hard question. kyler once again starts thinking. "i... oof, that's a hard question, really." after a few long moments of thinking, he finally starts speaking again. "i'm just going to parrot off jinu hyung from here, i want us to not be underestimated because we're from a small company."

"i would probably tell myself that time is the solution to everything, that every cloud has a silver lining and that recovery isn't a simple road, you fall and you get back up, but in the end, it will all turn out well." he nods. "i also would tell myself to study more korean, oh i should've included that in points where i lack."
