while she usually maintains her calm demeanor in front of others, if you can manage to push her buttons correctly, you will see emotional flare-ups from her. all in good fun, unless you hit her in her weak spot, which is her members. she won't hesitate to throw a large cup of scalding hot tea at you then and only you will be responsible for it. i hope someone gets to be the gojo to her utahime because this scene was so funny. often a stickler for rules and very much standing by the ideal that "if this is how it should be done, it will be done this way." but, she won't hesitate to bend the rules if her loved ones are at the receiving end of it. an example of that would be the fact that she once had an argument with the higher ups about a member being placed on an even harsher diet than she already was. tsuki argued with the higher-ups for hours, claiming that the member was already thin enough and if she were to be forced into another diet that was even harsher, she wouldn't even have the strength to stand, let on stand on stage, sing and dance. nobody messes with her girls, be it the higher ups, anti-fans or even the members' own families, and she makes that abundantly clear.

despite her best efforts, ever since she first joined hb entertainment, those who have interacted with her beforehand will note that there has been a lingering distance in her interactions with others, a subtle barrier that she struggles to break down. it's not that she wishes to keep people at arm's length; rather, it's a defense mechanism born out of years of navigating the treacherous waters of toxicity and emotional turmoil.

BACKGROUND.

it has been said that being born into a loving and supportive family is a privilege rather than a right, and tsuki couldn't agree more with that sentence. born in shinjuku on february 27, 1999, tsuki grew up in a quite modest household with basically everything she could need, really. loving parents, a younger brother that came three years after her, a roof over their head, a steady income, food on the table, etcetera etcetera. as for her childhood, tsuki would also say that it was quite average, really. she was doted on as a child, had good grades in school (as good as it could be, really) and had a pretty good friend group as well.

as her parents often worked quite late, tsuki would be sitting idle after school most of the time and would be bored out of her skull. thinking that this would also cause her to become anti-social in the future since most of her friends were attending after school clubs, her parents decided to let her join an after school activity. but, from the list of activities that was given to her, which included sports like basketball, baseball and tennis, and other activities like visual arts, flower arrangement, tea ceremony and drama, tsuki ended up choosing none and instead, decided that she wanted to sing. her parents were quite surprised at first, but allowed her to do so anyway, signing her up for piano and singing classes that was only a short distance from her house, where she would either walk or have one or both of her parents pick her up afterwards.

tsuki flourished in piano and singing. while she suffered a lot at first due to learning how to read notes and harmonize, over time, she became quite advanced at it. she improved steadily and her instructors had nothing but praise for her. over time, she began participating in small-scale choir performances and singing contests in shinjuku.

kpop had been popular in japan since the mid-2000s, with idols like tvxq (or tohoshinki as tsuki knew them) and boa paving the way for the genre's increasing popularity in the japanese music market. tsuki was no stranger to the genre, with her parents turning up songs at home for her and her brother, ryuunosuke, to enjoy whenever they did anything, and her friends at school gushing over the groups and the handsome "senpais". and in 2017, after graduating from high school, tsuki, on a whim, joined the global auditions for a korean entertainment company that she knew close to nothing about. and when she went home, she immediately told her parents about it.

her parents were… apprehensive, to say the least. all they wanted was for their children to have stable jobs and lives, and being a kpop idol, sadly, doesn't equate to that. auditioning for a company and getting accepted is hard as it is, but getting accepted, making the cut to the debut team and becoming successful? that's a feat that not many people can achieve. but, they gladly accompanied her when pledis reached out to tsuki to ask her to come down to seoul for a second audition, another audition which tsuki passed. so, tsuki set off to move into the pledis trainee dorms after auditioning and getting accepted, out to prove her parents wrong, that she can have a stable life while doing what she loves, which is becoming an idol.

LIKES.

ANIMATED MOVIES.　she's a studio ghibli, dreamworks and pixar fanatic through and through. her favorite movie from each studio respectively is "howl's moving castle", "kung fu panda 3" and "coco".

ANIME & MANGA.　it's a given at this point, even though she's a manga reader as well. she loves one piece and haikyuu, and as of 2023, has started watching apothecary diaries and demon slayer as well. she has also watched banana fish and cried her eyes out at the end.

BALLET.　her favorite dance type. even though she wasn't formally trained, tsuki enjoys practicing the footworks on her own and watching ballet performances. her favorites are giselle and swan lake.

BOOKS.　while she reads anything, fiction and non-fiction, she always finds herself steering back to fantasy series like harry potter and percy jackson, and mystery books. her favorite author is natsuo kirino.

BREAD.　her go-to snack to hide during her training time when she got hungry was convenience store bread. she especially loves melon bread, cheese bread and garlic bread.

CATS AND DOGS.　even though her favorite animals are butterflies, this doesn't mean she won't stop to pet and give treats to the stray cats and dogs she sees on the street.

DAD JOKES.　she bursts out into quiet giggles whenever she hears one.

FALL.　easily her favorite season even though most fans compare her to spring, spring transitioning into summer if we're being specific. if she had to give out a few examples of what she loves about fall: halloween, spooky season, leaves changing color, fall-themed scented candles and incense even though she doesn't really enjoy burning them and warm drinks with fall spices.

FASHION.　tsuki is extremely interested in fashion and is always looking for ways to improve her clothing style.

FRUITS.　she especially loves strawberries and grapefruits. they're healthy and taste delicious. even though she needs to balance it out with vegetables and protein sources, if it was scientifically proven that one could live off fruit forever, tsuki actually would. you are what you eat, tsuki. that's why you're fruity af.

HORROR MOVIES.　she's a really big fan of the conjuringverse and once dressed up as the nun for citrus' halloween party, complete with the creepy makeup and scared the crap out of the members.

JAPANESE MUSIC.　while she loves kpop just as much as everyone else, given that it's her job to be a kpop idol, she finds herself gravitating towards japanese music more often than not. asides from ini, her brother's group, she also loves ado, jo1, 7!!, and lisa.

INI.　piggybacking off above, of course she loves ini, her brother is in the group after all. if you ask her her favorite ini song though, she'll definitely be going back and forth between bombarda and spectra. even though he wasn't her no. 1 pick, her favorite member is masaya, don't tell ryuunosuke that.

MINIMALIST JEWELRY.　if the stylists put her in statement pieces for jewelry, she will absolutely wear it, but otherwise, she always finds herself steering to dainty, minimalist and, for the lack of a better term, simple jewelry, like stud earrings, rope necklaces and bracelets and simple rings.

MUSIC.　and it's not just because she's in the music industry, tsuki has to have some kind of music playing, even at a really low volume, when she does anything.

PEPPERMINT.　anything peppermint-flavored is a big yes for tsuki. peppermint tea? send it here, it'll not only taste good but also help with as well. peppermint hot chocolate? perfect for winter and actually how she prefers her hot chocolate. mint chocolate ice cream? not her favorite, strawberry and matcha take the cake for that, but she will gladly get it if there's no strawberry or matcha and she will gladly accept and eat it if she's offered. she's obviously team #mincholover and is one of the biggest defenders of mint chocolate in citrus.

TEA.　she's japanese, tea is like water to her. while she enjoys coffee as well, she'll always go for tea as her preferred choice of hot beverage. she loves, loves, loves matcha and peppermint tea.

THE MOON.　yes, she's aware that her name means "moon", which only amplifies her fondness for the moon. sometimes, she ends up going outside at night to stargaze and watch the moon.

DISLIKES.

AKGAES.　she doesn't get how their minds function. just– what do you get from solo stanning one member of a group? if you support a group, aren't you supposed to support all members equally?

BELL PEPPERS.　something she has disliked since she was a child and something a lot of japanese children dislike. she can't eat them at all. the texture is weird and the smell makes her extremely nauseous. if there's bell peppers in a dish, best bet that tsuki is asking the servers if they can make her dish without bell peppers.

CLUTTER.　especially in her room. it just makes her anxious and makes her itch to clean, but she'll respect her roommate's (if she gets any) space as well.

GENDER INEQUALITY.　you earning 1000 won less than what you've earned last month is nothing compared to the years of violence and oppression women have faced and still face, chad. get over yourself.

HATE COMMENTS.　she has a lowkey fear of reading comments because of hate comments. this especially gets worse after the whole "she can't dance" scandal blows up.

HOMOPHOBIA.　pretty self-explanatory.

MATH.　easily her least favorite subject in school. how the hell does anyone willingly like math? as king choi soobin (yes of txt) says, "why would you learn math when you have a calculator?"

SLOW WALKERS.　especially if they're slow enough to be annoying but not slow enough so she can pass them quickly.

BITING HER LIPS.　tsuki has a habit of biting her lips, especially if she's angry in order to calm down.

CRUSHING.　boy oh boy is tsuki a mess when she crushes on a pretty girl. she gets all flustered and tongue-tied and it's a very endearing and cute sight to see. although, nowadays, it's hard to see that from her since she's stuck in a toxic relationship and is questioning whether she's attracted to anyone or not.

FIDDLING WITH HER EARRINGS.　she mainly does it when she's uncomfortable, and in the future, it becomes a dead giveaway to the members when they meet asami.

LOVE LANGUAGE.　tsuki's love language is words of affirmation. she puts a lot of thought into her words and what she says to others, and how she constructs her thoughts and sentences when writing even small messages on communication apps like weverse or universe.

MORNING ROUTINE.　no matter what time she falls asleep, tsuki's regular morning routine consists of waking up at 7 am, exercising, showering, doing skincare, getting dressed and making tea. she finds that it helps her be more motivated and ready to take on whatever the group has to do that day.

NIGHT ROUTINE.　and no matter what time citrus arrives at the apartment after late night practices, tsuki's regular night routine is taking her makeup off, brushing her teeth, doing her nighttime skincare and reading in her bed. it helps her relax and she's usually falling asleep in no time.

STRETCHING.　she'd be talking to someone, and she puts her leg up on a chair or a higher place and stretches her hamstrings out. she does it without knowing and it always surprises people when she does it.

TILTING HER HEAD TO THE LEFT.　she doesn't know how this habit came to be, but this is a habit that both her and her brother, ryuunosuke have. they might just be sitting there, doing absolutely nothing, and all of a sudden, they tilt their head to the left.

ZONING OUT.　a habit she developed because of asami's long tirades of berating her. fans often joke that she's "disconnected" when they notice her zoning out.

HOBBIES.

GAMING.　while she cannot play games as often as she'd like, she started playing genshin impact due to her brother's insistence upon its' release in 2020, and became hooked. as of 2023, her team is chevreuse, ei, kujou sara and bennett.

ONLINE SHOPPING.　she's big on online shopping and orders mainly books, jewelry and clothes online. the apartment receives a lot of packages because of her.

READING.　she has a huge shelf of books back in her family home in shinjuku. reading is a part of her night routine as well.

STARGAZING.　sometimes, if her night routine doesn't work and she can't fall asleep, she usually either goes outside or sits out at the balcony with a warm drink to stargaze.

the nikaido family is as close-knit as they can be, sharing a majority of what's going on in their life with each other. her father (hiroshi) and mother (nanami) own a decently popular ramen store in the heart of shinjuku. her father is the epitome of dad, with his habits such as falling asleep on the couch while watching documentaries and his dad jokes, while her mother is more no-nonsense and strict, but loving all the same. despite being as close as they are and sharing a lot of things, tsuki is rather apprehensive about talking to them about her current situation with asami, since that'd mean she has to come out as lesbian to them and she doesn't know what her parents' stance on the lgbtq+ community is.

NIKAIDO RYUUNOSUKE, YOUNGER BROTHER, 2002, ESFP 7W8

and then there's tsuki's younger brother, ryuunosuke, who she affectionately calls "ryuu-kun". born in 2002, while tsuki and ryuunosuke used to not get along as well when they were kids, as time passed and both of them got older and more mature, they're now inseparable, constantly calling, texting or video chatting with each other whenever they can and checking in on one another. if there's anyone in her family who knows, quite literally, everything about tsuki, she'd say it's her brother. ever the big fan of his older sister, ryuunosuke also decided to follow in tsuki's footsteps in becoming an idol, but in japan rather than korea. he auditioned for produce 101 japan 2 in 2021 and placed 9th in the final, thus granting him the chance to debut in the final group, ini as a lead rapper. (replacing ikezaki rihito).

CITRUS

HWANG YEONJI.　these two are compared to the sun and moon a lot. makes sense, i guess, with the way yeonji is a literal sunshine and tsuki's name meaning moon, with personalities that are accurate to the sun and the moon. while their personalities are somewhat of an opposition to each other, they also complement each other a lot, with yeonji working hard to bring tsuki out of her shell and making sure to include her in conversations so that her voice can also be heard and that she's not left behind. likewise, tsuki helps bring yeonji's explosive cheerfulness and unintentional loudness down to a reasonable pace, only when necessary though. she enjoys seeing the younger girl all cheerful and happy.

WILA WILAIVAN METHAROM.　wila and tsuki get along rather well, due to having similarly responsible and ambitious personalities, and both of them having been somewhat humbled in their old companies, tsuki at pledis and wila at cube. even though they only started interacting properly after they were both placed in the project group "hb girls" that would eventually go on to leave hb entertainment and become citrus, their friendship is still a very cute one, with both of them freely going to each other for things they need to talk about, especially tsuki if bonnie isn't available. in the future, wila will probably become one of the first people to hear both about asami and about tsuki's growing feelings for a fellow vocalist.

JO YEOREUM.　since tsuki came to hb much much later than yeoreum, those two never really interacted until they became classmates for vocal classes. tsuki had been practicing a song one day in the practice room when yeoreum happened to walk in, and it also happened to be a specific part she was struggling with. complimenting tsuki on her skills and quickly introducing herself, yeoreum then asked if tsuki could help her with the choreography, which the girl accepted after a while of silence and possible mental debate. this eventually started somewhat of a friendship that just grew and grew until it became somewhat of a mother-daughter relationship. whenever yeoreum and tsuki hang out together, it's always a blast.

CLARA HWAYOUNG JUNG.　with her eyes alight and heart aflutter, clara basks in the warmth of tsuki's affection. tsuki's tender care and doting gestures towards clara have definitely earned her the title of "clara's favorite unnie in citrus". the fellow citrus members affectionately dub them "the child and the bad influence dad," a playful moniker that captures the essence of their relationship. tsuki, the endearing "mom," delights in spoiling clara to the fullest of their capabilities (which, obviously, doesn't go without some scolding from bonnie's end), while clara, the cherished "child," revels in the attention and care bestowed upon her, even though tsuki doesn't hesitate to be strict with her as well if necessary.

YUKIMURA ASAMI, GIRLFRIEND, 1999, INTJ

from the outside, their relationship seemed like a picture-perfect love story. they were introduced by a mutual friend from pledis entertainment, who, bless his heart, introduced tsuki to new pledis trainee asami as soon as he learned that asami was also japanese, thinking that they'd be close friends. time passed, they grew comfortable with each other and tsuki realized she genuinely started liking asami. and she came out to asami as a lesbian, which asami responded by saying she was pan and had feelings for tsuki. and thus, their connection bloomed in secret, hidden from the prying eyes of the other trainees and the pledis entertainment higher-ups.

what had started as a whirlwind romance between nikaido tsuki and yukimura asami now feels like a suffocating cage from which tsuki yearns to break free. at first, asami's affection felt like a warm embrace, a beacon of light in tsuki's tumultuous world. but as time passed, that warmth turned scalding, searing tsuki's spirit with every cruel word and controlling gesture. asami's own insecurities about herself morphed into weapons, aimed directly at tsuki's vulnerable heart.

every disagreement escalated into a battleground, with tsuki always emerging bruised and battered, her self-esteem crumbling with each verbal assault. yet, she clung to the remnants of their love, hoping against hope that things would change, that asami would see the damage she was causing.

but change never came. instead, tsuki found herself drowning in a sea of doubt and fear, her every move scrutinized, her every decision questioned. especially with asami leaving pledis, joining fantagio to become an actress and tsuki's acceptance and subsequent departure from hb entertainment and her debut with citrus, asami's jealousy knew no bounds, casting a shadow over every interaction tsuki had with others, suffocating any semblance of freedom she once possessed. and now, tsuki is stuck in a room with seemingly no exit door and is trying to get out.

STAGE NAME.　TSUKI (츠키)　she chose to go by her real name for promotion purposes, nothing special.

TALENT TWIN.　SUZUKI AIRI　tsuki's main niche is singing, and it shows in her polished and trained technique as well. possessing a slightly deeper singing voice than her regular speaking voice and an insane vocal range, she can go from powerful, rock-style belting to soft, almost operatic tones. fans and people who have listened to her singing describe her voice as "like many people singing at once". as for her dancing, she's got an adapting style, taking what the choreographer taught her without any personal style applied to it. makes sense in her case, since she needs to conserve her energy to sing and hit notes on stage.　(back up: ado, xg's juria)

TRAINEE LIFE.

if you were to ask about her experience as a trainee, tsuki would say it was eye-opening for her. she wished she had been told about how it wouldn't be easy, how she'd learn to rely on caffeine and fumes to get her going, and how she'd be subjected to weight check-ins and evaluations to ensure that she was up to par with pledis' standards. that's what made it eye-opening for her really, she got to experience an entirely different culture that she previously had no idea about. it did take her a while to get used to, but once she started improving on her korean and meeting and becoming friends with other people, it suddenly didn't seem so hard.

another eye-opening experience for her during her training time was the fact that, before she started training, tsuki had started questioning something about herself. just who did she like? she had a lot of guys who'd be crushing on her and leaving chocolates on her desk on valentine's day, but she just never had an interest in guys, really. sure, guys are cool but girls are so much better. girls are beautiful, they have lovely personalities and smell very nice. and tsuki could definitely see herself settling down with a girl in the future, more than with a boy, really. and after a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of self-loathing, questioning whether she was a freak of nature for thinking this way about girls when she's supposed to be thinking of boys, and doing tons and tons of research, tsuki, at the mere age of 15, finally came to a damning conclusion. she wasn't a freak of nature, she was simply a lesbian, a girl that likes exclusively girls in both a romantic and a ual way.

with this revelation opening her eyes, when she started training, tsuki only told two people, her brother ryuunosuke (which happened very recently, mind you, she wasn't about to force this onto her brother when he was only 12) and, at the age of 19, a trainee friend in pledis named yukimura asami who a mutual friend back in pledis entertainment had introduced her to. asami was very accepting and not only came out as pan, but also told tsuki she had feelings for her. shocked and flattered because asami? liking someone like her?, tsuki asked asami for some time to figure everything out. and after a while, the two started to secretly date.

tsuki, at first, thought that she had hit jackpot. she was not only about to fulfill her dream of being an idol, but had also scored a lovely girlfriend. nope. tsuki gave all that she could to asami, but it was never enough for her. at times, it felt like asami was bored with tsuki, not giving a damn about her true interests while tsuki showed all the kindness, compassion and genuine interest that she could. she always gave, gave, gave and asami always took, took, took. no equality whatsoever. tsuki catered to asami's every whim and every insecurity, reassuring her over and over and yet, asami did nothing when tsuki confided in her about worrying that she wouldn't be debuting anytime soon. asami was horrifyingly insecure too, even after both of them leaving pledis, asami transferring to fantagio in hopes of becoming an actress, and tsuki entering and leaving hb entertainment, it was like asami was always with tsuki, watching over her like a rabid hawk, ready to pounce on anyone who stood in a fifty mile radius of tsuki and then pounce on tsuki herself, blaming her about everything.

all in all, it was an incredibly toxic relationship, and you know what the worst part is? tsuki is still stuck. she hasn't broken up with asami yet because, one, she doesn't exactly know how to, and two, she worries about what will happen if she does break up with asami. but eventually, there will be a time where the straw on the camel's back will break.

the added stress of the girls' debut being pushed back constantly in hb entertainment didn't help tsuki's cause either. she's constantly stressed, constantly anxious and starting to get jaded and burnt out, up until one of the members jokingly stated that it'd be easier if they left and funded themselves instead, rather than relying on a wishy-washy company, especially after learning that hb entertainment, despite all their promises, actually had no intentions ever of debuting the girls in the near future. so, packing up her stuff, letting her family know and thanking heavens that she had the idea to apply for the japanese university entrance exam and had been studying in secret, tsuki booked a flight to japan to take the entrance exam, promising the girls she'd be seeing them soon.

PRE-DEBUT EXPERIENCES.

PIANO AND VOCAL CLASSES.　starting from the age of 7, tsuki took piano and vocal classes since up until she auditioned for and got accepted into pledis entertainment in 2017. some of her old choir and singing performance videos are still on youtube.　2006 – 2017.

2021　OLDER SISTER OF PRODUCE 101 JAPAN SEASON 2 FINALIST AND INI MEMBER NIKAIDO RYUUNOSUKE REVEALED TO BE DEBUTING AS A MEMBER OF INDEPENDENT GROUP, CITRUS　TRUE　after the profiles of the girls of citrus were revealed, eagle eyed japanese fans took notice of the kanji used to write one of the members' surnames and the information about said member, and came to the correct conclusion that the member and ryuunosuke were most likely related, which ryuunosuke confirmed himself after getting permission from lapone, his company, to do so, publishing some predebut photos of himself and tsuki and asking for the public to take care of his sister and support her and her group.

2022　CITRUS' TSUKI UNDER FIRE FOR WEAK DANCING DURING PERFORMANCES　UNANSWERED　during their debut performance, the fans took note of tsuki's, for the lack of a better word, lazy dancing and seemingly not giving her all during the performance. from then onwards, an onslaught of hate overtook the comments of the encore stage, criticizing her vocals and leaving comments like "she trained for close to five years and this is how she dances?" "how can you be an idol and not be able to dance? that's literally part of your job" "i can dance better than her", etcetera etcetera.
