she has the ability to get along with everyone; extroverted and bubbly, but not over-the-top with it. depending on the person, she can talk for hours, listen to them jabber on for hours, or sit in comfortable silence. all of her friends are different but she loves them all the same. she loves people in general, and she's often fascinated by each person's different or similar quirks. friends of eumjin can expect for her to compliment them on random things she likes about them; from their hair, their shoes, or a habit they didn't even know they had.

eumjin is willing to try anything twice. she's all for going around citites and countries without a map and just experiencing life. she's a bit of a daredevil, however, and her friends have to convince to not triple dog dare herself to do something stupid. since she's shameless and generally unafraid, she's not afraid of consequences or even death. fortunately for herself and everyone that loves her, she does know when to quit when a lot of people are telling her not to do something and she can recognize the warning signs of obvious danger. 

she adapts well to different environments, which helps with her adventuring. she doesn't freak out when things go awry or she's in a situation she's not used to; she merely modifies herself to go along with what's happening. it also helps with her making friends, she's able to change herself to mesh well with the other person. not that she completely changes herself, but if she's with someone who's more quiet, she'll tone down the theatrics or if she's with someone who's more loud, she'll up the ante. she also likes a lot of things, and doesn't stick to just one type of genre or whatnot that she likes, so it's even easier.

she can be indecisive, though. due to her liking a lot of stuff, it's hard for her to choose between options. she prefers people to make decisions for her because she has a difficult time deciding. she hates having to choose; she usually feels guilty about choosing one thing over another, even if there's no reason to. she'll also have regrets, too, where she'll wonder if maybe the other option was better or if she'd like it more. this is why she likes going out without a plan; creating one never work out for her because she has no idea what to choose.  adventurous, adaptable, indecisive
 

slow-witted, absentminded, humorous  eumjin is smart, but most people don't know that due to the sheer amount of dumb comments that pass through her lips. she blanks a lot, and it takes her a while to understand what people are saying. she is completely fine with this fact. a self-proclaimed "natural bimbo," she doesn't really care too much about being smart or studious, and she never has. school has never been on a list of things she wants to accomplish, so she never paid attention. it helps (?) that she has trouble paying attention already.

her mind is often travelling to other places, right in the middle of conversations she should probably be listening to. she forgets what she was meant to do pretty easily, so she usually walks around repeating a task to herself in her head, and if she gets interrupted, she'll forget about it. when she does, and she asks herself, "wait, what was i supposed to be doing?" and she can't remember in a minute, she'll shrug and walk off. people tell her to write her down, but that never helps either because she just forgets why she wrote it down. it'll usually come to her later, though, when the day is done and she's about to go to sleep.

her stupidity and forgetfulness can be annoying, but it is also cause for laughs at times, too. eumjin is a funny person, not just when she's unintentionally making a fool of herself but when she actually tries to be, as well. the only time she's being smart is when she's saying a well thought-out joke. she matches her jokes with whoever she's with, so she'll be certain they'll laugh. when they don't land, she'll just try again. a natural bimbo comedian.
 

eumjin is always thinking, and way too much for her own good. although people joke that she doesn't have a lot going on up there, she actually has quite the opposite. contemplating about life and the reason why she's here is a common activity for her. it doesn't matter if she's alone or with someone, she'll start to think about the universe and all it has to offer. usually she can just turn her brain off for a second and enjoy what's happening in front of her, but there's times where she can't stop thinking and she ends up making herself depressed. eumjin thinks she has a good life, but she doesn't believe that the world is a happy place, and that makes her upset. she wonders why the universe allows so much suffering.

when she's in one of her moods, she can be very grumpy. she tries to seperate herself from people who aren't her closest friends so she doesn't snap at them. even outside of her moods, she's pretty snappy. not as much as when she's feeling down, but it doesn't take to much to irritate her. even as someone who is buoyant and friendly, she gets annoyed easily. she hates when people are being judgemental, making fun of someone, disprespectful for no reason, rude, or too selfish. she's okay when someone's laughing at her because it's whatever, but she doesn't like to see it done to someone else, especially when they don't know they're being laughed at.

eumjin is open and honest, and that extends to her feelings. she's not afraid to tell someone how she's feeling; she only goes into detail with her closest friends and family, but she will let someone know how she's feeling in basic terms. she won't hold back when it comes to confrontation, regardless of it it's with a friend or a senior. if they did something bad, she'll tell them they did something bad. she believes that people can change, and that being encouraging is better than being argumentative, but if they refuse to see what they did and double down on what they did, she's quick to tell them that she can't see them being friends any longer.

eumjin can lie, but she prefers not to, even if it may hurt someone's feeling. she believes honesty is the best policy, and she'd rather know the truth and be hurt than to be living happy in a lie.  pensive, irritable, honest
 

background. eumjin grew up lower middle class in a seven person household — her parents, grandparents, older brother, older sister, and herself — and shared a room with her two siblings for years, until her grandparents passed away by each other's side, when she was 13. all of the values she has now she learned through her family, her parents and grandparents being philanthropists and activists for enviromental causes, animal rights, and minority rights. 

she was (and is) a big boa fan, which had helped her become interested in music. she started by copying boa's choreography, which then turned to her covering other kpop artists' dances in her living room after coming home from school. in the fourth grade, she joined her school's choir on a whim. she stayed in choir up until graduating junior high, and kept on dancing and singing in her private time at home. eumjin didn't attend high school, and immediately began to work at her parents' kbbq restaurant. she had wanted to become an idol for years, but she never went to any auditions or talent academies because she also wanted to help her family with the restaurant.

after seeing sooyoung's debut with red velvet, the song encouraged her to realize her dream of becoming an idol. she auditioned for sm entertainment, and fortunately passed the first time.

TRAINING. eumjin joined sm entertainment in september 2014, auditioning with a vocal performance of "atlantis princess" by boa and a cover of 'happiness' by red velvet. she's heard a lot of bad things about the company, but she thought if sooyoung was there and was fine that it should be fine for her, too. they were a lot more lax than she had expected them to be, but it wasn't unwelcome. she didn't join the smrookies program, but she was picked to be the main actress in heechul and jungmo's music video, despite being there for only a few months. nothing else happened during this time. she was chosen for the sljk-g program in mid 2016. as tough and demanding as it was, eumjin continued on without too much complaints. she was the moodmaker of the practice room, and whenever they had breaks, she was always making the other trainees laugh and relax with her antics and jokes.

park “joy” sooyoung

eumjin is sooyoung's best friend and sooyoung is eumjin's best friend. the two grew up together, meeting one another in the second grade. the two have similar personalities, both outgoing and friendly, so it was easy for them to click. eumjin trusts sooyoung with her deepest, hardest to tell secrets and vice versa. after eumjin debuts, the two reference things the other did more often than not on radio and variety shows. they're clingy soulmates, and eumjin refers to sooyoung as "my wife and soulmate." they're not really attracted to each other romantically, but eumjin thinks if there's one person she could spend her life with from the rest of time, it'd be sooyoung. sooyoung feels the same way.

yoo “yoomi” youngmi

youngmi and eumjin met during eumjin's first day at practice, but they first spoke more than greetings at the sm cafeteria. although eumjin was new, she had already gotten herself a nice pack of girls sitting with her. she kept asking all the girl trainees she recognized to sit with her, and youngmi was one of those girls. they hit it off well, and gradually became friends as time went on. joining the sljk-g program had helped their rs, as they spent more time together. eumjin takes care of youngmi like her little sister, even though eumjin is the one that acts more childish between the two. 

madame kang

eumjin admires madame kang, so much so that she will openly flirt with the older woman any chance she can get. eumjin doesn't know how she feels about eumjin's flirting, but she's obviously not uncomfortable with it (probably thinks she's just being a little brat) because if she was, eumjin definitely would have gotten a stern talking to like she does every other time she does something madame kang doesn't find to be humorous.

kim heechul

eumjin and heechul have a strong senior-junior relationship. they started to become friends after eumjin featured alongside him in his music video. eumjin doesn't actually ask him for advice idol wise anymore because he's never serious with her, but he does help her a lot with her variety skills. she hits him way too much for a junior, but heechul's a good senior so he takes it in stride.

manager eric

eumjin is convinced eric is a vampire. it started off as a joke, her messing around and suggesting he is one as a reason why he's so mysterious but then the conspiracy started to make sense. he's always wearing dark colors, his canines are a little too sharp, his private life... is very private, and no one really knows that much about him other than he's smart and studied in england ("uhm, is that not vampire central? ENGLAND?"). plus, when she asked him if he was, all he did was scowl, which if she was a vampire and someone asked her if she was, that's exactly the type of reaction she would have. but other than that, he's cool. he gets on her the most because she always wakes up and falls asleep the latest.

manager lim

eumjin acts cute with manager lim, calling her sweetly with "pretty unnie~" everytime she first sees her. out of all the managers, eumjin likes her the most and it shows by how much she clings to her. they go out drinking when schedules aren't too bad. although lim tries to keep a bit of boundaries between the two because she is eumjin's manager, it's hard to do so with someone as gregarious as eumjin. they're good friends, and that's why eumjin listens to her more than she does the other managers.

what inspires you to dance? to perform?

eumjin hums, ruminating on the question. she thinks back to her thrill she felt when she heard her best friend's debut song for the first time; the joy she felt when she was able to finally do the full choreography to "eat you up" by boa through muscle memory; the way her heart pounded after every choir performaance. she grins, and answers, "being happy."

which seniors do you look up to?

it doesn't take her long to respond, almost shouting her answer in excitement. "boa senior! she's amazing, she is the standard idol. she debuted at such a young age, but she didn't feel like a rookie then. she was professional even in her debut years, and she's become more talented and beautiful with age."

memories of sitting in front of the family computer for hours just watching boa performances on any website she could find, communicating with other fans online and exchanging ggods with each other in real life, and attending boa concerts with her mom decked out in merch flash through her mind, a small smile gracing her lips as nostalgia fills her heart. she's past the devout fan stage of her life, but she'll always love and admire boa.

"her music is the best, too! my favorite song by her will always be atlantis princess. the song encourages me to keep following my dreams." eumjin sings a bit of the chorus, voice more stable and confident than it was when she sang it for her audition. she giggles as she says, "she's my dream girl, so i'm going to keep following her."

what makes you stand out from the others?

"can i phone a friend?" the staff chuckle, eumjin giving an awkward giggle. she chews her fingernail, trying to come up with something but being stumped. not that pretty, not that talented, sort of funny; a normal and average, everyday girl. like all the others.

"i don't really know, to be honest. it's hard for me to think about what makes me stand out because i don't look at myself."  she pauses, realizes that that sounds weird, and rubs at her chin in thought. these questions always have her stumped. she doesn't know herself! she just goes with the flow of life, she doesn't think about what makes her special. she doesn't care! at all!

"or, i mean, i'm me so i won't really know my qualities, since i might see myself differently than everybody else." she pauses again, looking down at her lap as she thinks about what she said. she looks up again, sporting an uncomfortable smile as she says, "well, even so, i guess i could still answer this question, huh? i'm not making any sense, forget it."

what scares you the most?

"nothing." it doesn't take long for eumjin to answer, her voice coming out in a serious tone despite having a goofy grin on her face.

"there's no point in being scared, i've given up on fear." it sounds like an exaggeration, but for her, it's the truth. why is this scaring me? how is fear going to help me in this situation? can i replace fear with another emotion and get the same result, or a better outcome? is being fearful keeping me from enjoying my life? eumjin is a very introspective person; her thoughts never stop, especially not at 2 am laying in bed and trying to fall asleep because she had school the next day. she is also a very ambitious person; when she sets her mind to something, she will try her absolute hardest to acheive it.

"i'm cautious and careful when i need to be, (— a lie that she doesn't even know is a lie —) but i'm not scared nor will i ever be scared. fear keeps you from doing, from trying, from loving." she thinks about all her friends who've stopped themselves from doing things they really wanted to do because they were scared, and shakes her head, the grin she had being replaced by a more serious line. 

"i won't be held back by fear."
