question one. where's the button to turn off the parent figure mode? 
answer. there isn't one.

through little clips of her doing a headcount of the pink velvet members in a crowded area, to her outright referring to her members as "my kids" — there's no doubt that kim seol is the parent in the group.

patient and caring, seol's trademark is serving others. placing others' needs before her own, she goes out of her way to lend a helping hand to whoever's in need of it. "the world can be quite cruel to all of us," she would reason when others question why or how she can be selfless, "i don't see why i should add onto it. what's the point if it doesn't help anyone?"

as the next person in charge after the leader, seol does her best to take care of the group whether it'd be physically, mentally or emotionally. there are many groups in the industry where the leader bears so much weight and responsibility that it can become too much, and seol is well aware that pink velvet's leader faces the same situation. as a result, she's placed the responsibility on herself to not only take good care of the other members but also the leader. seol refuses to let the leader take all the responsibilities and burden, thus with her doting nature, she often finds herself pestering their leader to split the given responsibilities. 

in simpler terms, seol can be considered as the group's back bone — she's always there for her kids, to support and care for them. regardless of what happens, seol will always look out for her members and protect them with her entire being, even if she has to risk her reputation, her pride and her life. 

question two. why isn't seol just a mom or just a dad? 
answer. why is that even a question? it's called duality. 

every kid usually provides differing traits for their mom which they wouldn't relate to their dad and vice-versa. however, in the pink velvet household, there's no such thing since seol is their mom, but also their dad.

the most obvious reason as to why is because seol's a single pringle, duh. however, seol does bear qualities that validate why she's both the dad and the mom at the same time.

when the pink velvet members are asked who they run to during problems, regardless of how simple or complicated it may be, the most frequent answer is seol. she ensures that the pink velvet dorm is a safe place for the members to share anything that's in their heart, and as the parent of the group, seol has a good relationship with all of the members as she strives her best to do everything she can for them. 

seol can often make the members open up to her just by sending that look any mother gives to her kids when she knows that they're not telling her something. being gifted with the ability to see every situation through every possible angle, seol is understanding of her members and their problems; she would never belittle their issues, nor would she judge them because it's all perfectly valid and she loves them with her whole heart. seol knows 'her kids' like the back of her hand; she knows their problems and secrets, sometimes even well before they tell her due to how easily she can pick up on things.  

and just like what a good father should be, seol is dependable; the girls know that they can count on her when they need help or find themselves in trouble. mature, collected and quick-witted, seol is the person that solves the problem when everyone goes into panic mode. her solutions can be creative depending on the situation but more often it's simple and logical to the point where they wonder why they didn't think of that sooner. 

due to seol's timid appearance, many underestimate her gutsy attitude. seol looks at her members like they're her entire world, and it's because they are. each one of them are precious to her that it's no brainer she's protective of them. with no fear to stand up for what's right and unafraid to charge head on especially in fearful situations, seol doesn't mind calling people out and their stupidity, specially when her members are involved.

however, similar to any other parent who wants their kid to learn from their mistakes as oppose to running away, seol isn't afraid to also call her members out when they're in the wrong or they mess up. being a diplomat at its finest, she approaches her members first and listen to their side, doing her best to understand; seol then proceeds to carefully consider her words and from there, she provides her reasoning and advice. 

question three. how do i get her to talk about her issues?
answer. when she wants to she will, but it'll take a long time.

too busy caught up in the lives and well being of others that she neglects her own, seol sometimes forgets that she has her own issues to take care of. everyone's perceived her as patient, kind, and all those wonderful things, but if only they knew. 

if only they knew that underneath her optimistism and confidence, her thoughts scream otherwise and it causes her to doubt. beneath her smiles and laughter, there's sadness that creeps in out of her nowhere. beyond her "golden heart" is a heart overly selfish and it makes her disappointed that she could even think that way. 

but no one knows that because seol keeps it all to herself.

seol is all about growing as a person that she chooses to improve on herself. she trains herself to not be selfish or be worried, but really, what seol's doing is covering up her feelings and sweeping it under a rug, only to be left forgotten. she would rather suffer alone than to tell someone else, which she's well aware of how hypocritical that is—she's the one who always tells her family, her friends and her fans that "it isn't good to keep them to yourself,"  and allow them to open up to her, yet here she is refusing to tell them what she currently goes through. 

the only exception where seol opens up about her problems is when it's for the sake of other people, to let them know that it's okay to feel down or to prove to them that every one, regardless of who they are or what their status may be, suffers from something but even then, she describes it vaguely and often downplays it. 

seol knows that no one's perfect, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't try her best to be.

question four. is there a way to delete the perfectionistic function?  

answer. sorry, there hasn't been anyone who found the solution for your problem

her perfectionistic tendency doesn't only affect seol on the inside but also in the way she lives out her life. many perceive her work ethic as hard-working, but those who know her are aware that it's her perfectionism taking over her body.

making mistakes is inevitable, but that doesn't validate it to be acceptable. seol places high expectations on herself, and it causes her to push herself harder, to do better. her stubbornness doesn't help either; if it isn't good enough for her, the girl won't budge. the music she composes, the songs she sings and the dances she practices on, everything must be perfect, and there's no other option. 

sometimes, when she doesn't hold herself back, she can force her perfectionism on the girls during recording sessions without fully realising. it's seldom that they see this side of her but when it does, it causes the atmosphere to be really uncomfortable however it doesn't take long for her to realise what she's doing, thus will immediately apologise to them. 

it's the reason why seol is thankful that she isn't the leader; she's afraid that her desire for everything to be perfect can hurt the girls. after all, pink velvet doesn't need a leader who'll mess it all up in an attempt to making it all perfect. 

question five. what happens if i press the infuriate button?

answer. see for yourself, but know that it's on you. 

it takes a lot for seol to get angry, her patience runs long in most situations because she controls her emotions and she tries to be understanding. however, not everyone knows that her patience shouldn't be taken advantaged of, because when her patience runs out there's no such thing as mercy anymore. 

seol is scary when provoked. it's almost as if there's something in her that awakens and just like that, the seol that was loving and kind disappears. the girl who looks at people with sparkles in her eyes and a beaming smile becomes the same girl who'll stare at you in absolute hate and disgust. her mind doesn't refrain her tongue to spit harsh words; the kind that either leaves you speechless or breaks your heart into a million pieces. 

and just like that, her heart that once cared too deeply, suddenly doesn't care anymore even to the point where she can cut off all ties without hesistance, and when people find themselves in that situation, they begin to wonder whether they really knew seol at all. 

this is what seol fears the most. she knows that she probably won't go to that extent when it comes to her members, but regardless, she could still hurt the members deeply if she doesn't manage to fully control her emotions. she's willing to apologise over and over if it ever comes to that time, but seol wouldn't dare to risk anything because there is absolutely no way that the tears in the members' eyes would be due to her dark side unleashing. 

the phatest tl;dr. nags like a mom but makes never-ending dad jokes + puns and does weird dad dances, the softest bean around who has an extra soff spot for her kids, scary when angry/provoked, doesn't know what the word "rest" actually means, adjusts well to new environment, appears and acts pretty mild until stuff goes down, mostly the mature one who extensively uses her one brain cell so the dorm doesn't burn down.

the eldest child of the kim family, seol was born in london with an architect for a father, and a doctor for a mother. her entire childhood would be spent in england as she welcomed her two younger brothers. her parents' incomes allowed the family to live a comfortable lifestyle, providing more than enough for seol and her two siblings.

from a very young age, seol's parents noticed their eldest's love for music and taking note of this, they signed her up for piano lessons at the age of seven. as seol grew up, her passion for music intensified and she began to love singing. through her talents, she was able to perform for talent shows and competitions in elementaries where she would up receiving trophies. from there, seol realised the joy and excitement of performing in front of people.

before seol could enter into middle school, her family relocated to seoul due to her dad's job. with the family settling back into seoul, her love for singing never diminished and she continued to take piano lessons before transitioning to the guitar later on. she was enrolled into a local middle school where she ended up being scouted by an agent from JYP entertainment during her 8th grade. after multiple considerations and chats with her parents, seol took a leap of faith and decided to join as a trainee.

seol juggled school work and training for seven years as a trainee in JYP. years of training, years of hoping but she constantly found herself disappointed, so seol decided to leave and find a new agency. it wasn't long till she heard that BigHit was scouting for female trainees, so seol decided to take another leap of faith and she was accepted. 

she then graduated from high school and with the burden of schooling finally off her shoulders, seol pushed herself even harder than she already had to train and improve her singing and her rapping.

naurto running back to the present day, seol's very unsure of what the future beholds, yet she's hopeful and willing to take anything that life throws her with full force.
