Bona skids to a stop, her blank expression contorting into a scowl as a freshman cuts her path in front of her. The first year scampers, bowing immediately as they throw themselves out of her way, "Sorry!" Bona's scowl disappears but she doesn't say anything, looking forward and moving on. It doesn't take even five seconds looking at Bona for everyone to know that she holds herself in a higher regard. Her eyes seem like she's constantly accusing people of something. Even as she enters the lecture hall where several people land their sights on her, it always feels like she's the one who's looking down on everyone else rather than the other way around. Be cautious. If you look (whether it's your face or your outfit), say, or do something stupid, you'll be her next conversation piece. Unless you're her friend, people's shortcomings tend to be her favourite form of entertainment.

She takes graceful strides towards the front of the class, plopping herself down in her usual seat. She doesn't shrink, no matter the crowd. She would've made for a good leader if it weren't for her dislike for toil. Her confidence in social settings draw others in. When she speaks, Bona sounds self-assured. It's much more obvious when you observe her outside of a school setting, however. While outsiders and strangers may see her as imposing, her friends see her more as compelling. The instructor looks to the rest of the students, and just as quick, Bona puts up a kind smile. She really had no reason to. Was it to give some encouragement to the instructor? Maybe. Was it to look like she's looking forward to class? Maybe. Was it for the tiniest possibilty for some favouritism points? Definitely. This side of her is much more evident in the recent years, functioning as a half-assed shield of many purposes. She's sweet and puts a pinch of adorable helplessness in so that she can gradually coax her instructors into being lenient towards her. While polite, she's passive and indifferent in hopes that her classmates will give her the easy parts in the group project. Bona's used to keeping up appearances, but she also won't care too much if you catch her ting on someone to her friend Lalin. Sometimes, she can't bother to give a . Except the school staff, she wants to maintain that angelic illusion. They give her her grades, after all.

This doesn't earn Bona a lot of good friends, and that's okay. She can see it in their eyes. She feels the distance. It's obvious when nobody really tries to make a friend out of her in most classes. Perhaps they feel like she's going to snap at them for breathing the wrong way around her. Bona's not dumb. She's not oblivious. She's used to scoping out the details and reading between the lines to conclude what people think. Then, Bona acts accordingly. She's had to do this many times so as to not set off any alarms when it came to interacting with her parents. You can always count on Bona to catch all the social cues.

Her brother would probably nag her about improving herself. Go on and on about how he can't believe she'd allow others to think less of her. Bona doesn't care. She doesn't care about reaching her potential and she often feels detached when the subject of ambitions come up. Bona barely has any ambition. Although she has her whole life ahead of her, there's nothing that sets her heart aflame with passion. She has no need to prove herself to others nor would she have the motivation. She's abandoned the idea of leaving a mark on the world and isn't interested in being remembered (well) by others in the future.

So, of course, with this mindset, she doesn't see the point of exerting herself in things that she isn't interested in. Going above and beyond expectations is not part of her vocabulary. This is easily seen in her school work. Bona only puts the enough amount of effort to get a passing grade. Does she think she can get a higher grade? If she bothered to spend more time on it, probably. She doesn't intend to graduate with shining achievements stamped on her records, though, so she won't push herself. It's characteristic of Bona to try to relieve herself of any workload possible. She'd show herself up to unsuspecting victims to be less capable than she actually is, redirecting or deflecting as many responsibilities as she can. Why do the task when other people can accomplish it better than her, right? And with the workload that remains, Bona would seek for the easiest method to achieve acceptable results and call it a day.

Bona has come into terms with this dull side of her. While she's not the nicest person out there, she does acknowledge her flaws and mistakes. She's not going to be shocked nor would she deny when she's called a , or that her lack of ambition is pitiful, or that she hurt somebody's feelings. She understands where people are coming from when they point out these kinds of things. She may not be honest to others, but she's honest with herself. Bona's tuned in and out on the lecture. Time passed as she attempted to retain information and take notes. When the clock finally signified the end of the session, Bona quickly packed up and fled out the lecture hall. Off she goes to the River Village. She loves adventures, whether big or small, and can't imagine being cooped up in a room. She's first to suggest an outing and is also first to accept an invitation. Bona always has an eye out for the next new place to check out. You don't ever have to worry about Bona complaining on a whole day of exploring and travelling.
She makes her way to River Village. Not far from her, she spots her friend Lalin sitting on a bench, doodling away on her sketchbook. There's a spring in her steps as she approaches the bench. Quickly plopping down next to her as she digs into her bag, whipping out a brand new box of copic markers, "How's my baby?" Lalin squeals, sparkles practically in her eyes, wrapping Bona in a bear hug. Now, just because Bona isn't exactly what people would call determined or ambitious doesn't mean that she's unable to admire those qualities in others. When she sees people she cares about work hard and aim high, she'll do anything she can to encourage and support them. Bona's their very own cheerleader.  While she's not interested in leaving her own mark behind on the world, this is the kind of difference she can get behind doing.
Perhaps it's the fact that she has no ambitions is why she's so reliable. Bona knows she's generally useless and has no drive to do any impact, so when the opportunity to help her friends out come up and she knows she can do it, she immediately jumps to it. Even if she may or may not look eager, you can count on her once she gives her word. While yes, she's lazy, it mainly pertains tasks that affect her and her only. One of Bona's love languages is acts of service (her primary being quality time), so while she has some destructive habits inflicted upon herself, she wants her friends to know that she can be depended on. Bona watches as Lalin delightfully looks over the range of colours, "I made sure I got the best." She grins, "Only the best for my baby, after all!"

background — Born in Seoul into a well-to-do family, Bona grew up never feeling like she lacked in something. Her immediate family owns many resorts throughout South Korea, operating as Jin Resorts. Her extended family were also in the hospitality industry, owning a major hotel chain in Korea as well. As the only daughter in her family, her parents doted on her along with her older brother Sihyung. Bona was a carefree little girl, skipping through the halls of resorts in high quality dresses as her parents busied themselves with business meetings. She thrived off the attention and loved posing around.

Throughout her childhood, a lot of what she did was to follow up in her brother's steps. Both the siblings were enrolled into private schools to ensure they were taught by the best educators. It was clear that as she grew older, however, that she wasn't going to meet the bar that Sihyung set up. As the little sibling, she's seen Sihyung work hard and be the stellar student and son. It seemed natural to him, though she looked closely especially during his shortcomings. When his parents were disappointed, and when her brother looked absolutely devastated. Bona hated seeing him that way and in turn, it instilled her own fear of disappointment. She kept bending and bending just to catch up to her brother, but realized she would probably break if she kept holding herself to these standards. She decided that if she couldn't even reach Sihyung's level, then she wouldn't bother doing it at all.

So she just breezed through her school years without an aim, attending to her own narcissistic tendencies and fooling around. Bona begrudgingly kept up the grades so as to not alarm her parents. While her parents didn't take note of the mindset she gradually adopted, it didn't go unnoticed by her brother. Watchful as always, Sihyung eventually voiced his concerns and gave a warning. "You should let mom and dad know that you don't intend to help out with the business, Bona." Alright, fair enough. "Also, stop talking about Mr. Shin's daughters. They're aware of it and straining our family's relationship with them will ruin things. Socially and business-wise." . Well, at least he isn't asking her to completely change.

Word of Bona's attitude circulated among the children of other families related to the business, and some even reaching classmates in her private school. While most of what Bona heard of herself were true, there were little rumours speckled among the talk seeming to show Bona in a more malicious light. It was alienating, yes. Some of her friends in school even seemed to be on guard around her and didn't act the same. But Bona knew who she was and considered it a lesson learned. She was lucky it hadn't reached the ears of her parents. As high school came to a close, her parents pestered her about her post-secondary options. Bona brought up wanting to model, deeming the easy way out and a path where she could still make money. Her parents finally saw the disinterest in her eyes on taking part of the family business. She scowled at the idea of business.

Her parents weren't going to let up, however. "What will you do if something happens to Sihyung?" They lectured, "We know you're capable." Again, though, fair enough. She did maintain good grades, granted it was a cover up for the fact she wasn't interested in her academic future. Still, Bona was unconvinced. Then her parents struck her a deal, "Get a degree in business managing, then you can pursue modelling with your heart's content." Bona agreed. She let her parents throw her into Haebyeon National University, the same university her brother attended. Bona thought that since she was going to go through university life, she at least should make the best of it. She joined the Delta Chi Theta sorority for the heck of it (that's a lie, she wanted to keep track of parties, hangouts, and whatnot). True to her end of her deal, Bona scored and maintained decent grades. She wouldn't hear the end of it from her parents nor see the beginning of that modelling career if she doesn't.

— yunbin's a bit of an enigma at first. people can see that he's an easygoing guy and is out to have fun as long as everybody's good with it and each other. he's never one to judge and nor is he one to lose his temper easily. yunbin takes negative occurrences and emotions surrounding him pretty well in comparison to others, and he's always looking for a way for all parties to settle into common ground. when approaching the problem and mediating/talking it out won't work, he can resort to playing some mind games. it's mostly for the good of everyone, anyway. just a mention here and there about something or someone, and he can corner them into a decision or let realization hit them and do the work. that's when you realize there's more depth to this boy.

— despite his tolerant nature, there's still a fighting spirit underneath. yunbin chooses his battles wisely. he can stun people due to, apparently, how unsuspectingly adamant he can be when it comes to his own ideals and decisions. he could slam you down with facts and wouldn't care whether you take it well or not, all while he's got a calm expression on his face. if an argument is what you want, an argument you will get. yunbin doesn't do this to put himself on a pedestal nor does he do this to make you feel ty. he just wants you to understand where he's coming from. all will be well once you either respect or understand him/his decisions and yunbin will readily forgive you.

meeting : It was going to be a normal night for Bona. She was visiting an art exhibition to distract herself from the fact that university was going to be a pain in the again. On her way there while Lalin and a few others were chatting among themselves, Bona looked at her left hand and realized that she had the art museum's logo stamped onto her skin. Her soulmate was visiting the exhibition too and was already there. Bona suddenly felt anxious but nonetheless, she walked on with anticipation, and perhaps some fright.

Thoughts ran through her head. Was it someone from HNU? Why didn't she come across them any sooner if so? Whatever. Whether she comes across them or not, she still wanted to enjoy the night. So she and her friends entered the museum and made their way around while admiring works of art.

Bona was just about to forget all about her soulmate being in her vicinity until she met eyes with a familiar person she's only came to be aware of just weeks back. The boy who she just noticed among other music students, despite Bona having seen almost every performance the music students have set up. She'd only seen him from afar, but she never thought she'd be so enamoured by him. Was it because he was good-looking? I mean, he was definitely good-lookin-

"What's your name?" He asked a simple question, yet Bona felt like she was going to faint. This moment could be it. This moment could be the very moment she meets her soulmate. But before she can overthink or overreact, she blurts her name out.

And he smiles. He smiles and he introduces himself, "I'm Son Yunbin."

The initials matched. Bona's eyes widen and she holds both her hands out, her own admission stamp on her right hand and her soulmate's stamp on her left. He holds his hands out too, and they match.

the story : Turns out, Yunbin really wasn't studying at HNU during the past two years and had just transferred from Juilliard. His parents originally sent him to New York as a teenager to learn the ropes from his extended family and allow the family's business to expand (they owned prestigious concert and theatre venues scattered around the world). From there, he was supposed to get into a business program (perhaps even Stanford or Harvard).

Instead, much to his parents' surprise, Yunbin succeeded in getting accepted into Juilliard and took up their offer. His parents begged him to pull out and take up a business program they had in mind. He didn't listen and completed his first year there. The second year started and they begged again, but his love for music came up top. His parents gave up, but because Yunbin didn't go along the intended path that his immediate and extended family agreed to, he had no choice but to go back to Korea as he had broke their conditions. He wanted to fight back. Plant his feet in New York and pave his own path. But with how things were going, he may end up estranged by his family. While he wasn't always on good terms with them, he felt like it wasn't worth losing his family over it.

He ended up applying to HNU. Unfortunately for him, credits from Julliard would not be accepted by the new university. He ends up entering HNU as a first year, slightly (completely) dejected yet spiteful of how he seem to have been set back. His parents were indifferent towards his goals. Yunbin had old friends studying in the same university, hence him walking around campus as if he had always been studying there. It confused Bona at first, making herself wonder if she'd simply just never saw him despite all these years attending. Yunbin explains this the night they meet, and they spend the rest of their visit at the museum together (much to the understanding of their friends).

They go on a date a week later, and God, is he even more intriguing. She met her soulmate, but she felt like she was walking on thin ice. She was scared of letting loose and letting her judgmental self ruin it. How was she supposed to bring this up to him? "Are you not feeling well?" Yunbin cuts her out of her train of thought. Bona is quick to deny, insisting that she was simply thinking. She can see that he wasn't convinced, but Yunbin trusts her and leaves it at that. It wasn't too long when he pinpointed what was wrong though. "You're not what I expected," he said, but it was clear he didn't mean it in a bad way. Bona's curiosity is piqued, "What do you mean by that?" Yunbin easily answers, "You're holding back, aren't you? You haven't acted according to the things I've heard about you."

Bona thought she would be nervous hearing this, but actually.. She felt so relieved. She thanked the heavens she didn't have to bring it up first. "Yes," Bona spoke, "I've been holding back." Yunbin smiles, shaking his head, "You're my soulmate. If we're going to spend the rest of our lives together, I might as well know all the bad stuff about you." He assures her, "I'm not going to judge you. Just be who you are." It was like a weight lifted off her shoulders and a different weight crashed down on her. Bona was feeling guilty. Nevertheless, the date continues and they both figure out that they have a love for a variety of music and performing arts.

Day by day, Bona falls deeper in love with him. They're similar in a way that they defy expectations, but while Bona deflects them, Yunbin outright rejects them. There's a fire in his eyes, and she sees it when he invites her to listen to him practice or compose. He's so passionate about putting his music out there and making it. Having Juilliard taken away from him was just fuel to Yunbin's fire. It's so exhilarating to Bona and she can't help but be there for him at every step of the way. She's there to comfort him when nothing seems to be going right with his work. She's there when he has a small gig at a cafe and she's there when he performs in front of other students. Bona is the first to ask him how his evaluations went. She beams in pride when she sees Yunbin up there doing what he loves.

And as time passes, Bona begins to feel even more terrible. There was nothing that she could call hers. She can't fathom that there's anything about herself that Yunbin would ever be proud of. She feels so selfish everytime they go on dates, as if she's clutching onto someone who doesn't belong to her. But he does belong to her. He's her soulmate, yet she can't help but think that he deserves better. Yet she doesn't want to let him go. Bona has never felt so apologetic and pathetic in her whole life. He takes her mean streak and humour with grace and counters it with his own humour, sure, but Bona feels like that's all she ever brings and is. No matter how much she'd try being nice to others for the sake of being a better partner for Yunbin, she could never change how she really is.

She eventually cracks, of course. She didn't know why she felt so depressed in this particular day, but she was. Bona hoped that the party would lift her spirits up, but she ended up staying in a corner to hog some of the hard liquor and down a concerning amount of shots. Bona didn't know when, but Hoseok slipped right beside her, intimately close. While also in a buzzed state, he seems to notice that she's attempting to drink her internal conflict away. Bona spills some details, telling him how she feels inadequate and unworthy. How she's dumb and useless and wished she'd turned out differently. Hoseok is quick to deny and goes straight to comforting her. His hand reaches over and carresses her face. He leans over and suddenly they're making out. Bona can feel that he's trying to comfort her through the kiss.

But he's not Yunbin.

Bona pulls back so fast when the image of Yunbin flashes through her head, she nearly tips over. Hoseok seems to realize he ed up, apologizing profusely as she also sputters out an apology to Hoseok before she runs off for a quiet place. She's shaky. At a loss of what to do, she pulls her phone out and aimlessly scrolls through social media trying to keep her mind off of what just happened.

A contrasting, upbeat tone rings out from her phone and a message banner descends from the top of the screen. 

Binnie: Are you doing alright there?

He knew she was at the party. It was a simple message to check up on her. Bona opens the notification up, but as her fingertips hovered over to the keyboard, she found herself not being able to breathe.

Tears were welling up. She puts her phone away and makes a beeline out of the frat house. Bona's sprinting out, but she didn't want to bust into Delta's housing in her emotional state. Instead, she just heads to Long Walk and keeps running and running. Tears are running down her face and she hates herself. She makes cruel laps around Long Walk, hoping to tire herself out and get her tears to dry before she makes it back to the sorority's housing. Her pace slows down, but a figure hops right in front of her and Bona nearly screams in terror.

The street lamp's light lands on their face, and she realizes that it's Yunbin. She didn't text back when she already read his message. Yunbin had gone to look for her in case something had happened.

Bona's expression contorts into a mix of horror and embarrassment. It doesn't matter, because she turns on her heel and starts sprinting again. Seeing Yunbin's face seemed to set something off in her, because now she's full out sobbing while trying to get away from him. The shame crashes down onto her even worse than the first time. She hears Yunbin calling out to her, but that only prompts her to run faster. This doesn't bode her well, though, because she ends up tripping on her own feet and crashing down into the ground beneath her. Her body's in pain, but she doesn't care. She resumes into being the sobbing, blubbering mess she is, lying face down into the dirt. Anybody who remotely knew Bona by a bit wouldn't believe this was her if they saw her as she was at this very moment.

Yunbin rushes to her side and cradles her into his arms. The concern, no, the hurt she saw in his eyes made her feel worse. She didn't deserve it. He gently asks what was wrong, but she's just stupidly wailing out in the middle of Long Walk past midnight. Yunbin repeats himself again, determined to know what was wrong. He tells her he has no intention of letting her go until she tells him what was going on. 

So Bona tells him that she's terrible. He's confused, but she then rambles on and on. She rambles on about how useless she is. She tells him how she can never be the kind of person Yunbin can show off to his friends because she does absolutely nothing but flit by and judge. Bona talks about how his passion just shines so bright while she's just basically as good as dead when she has zero ambition in life. Her own appearance and lifestyle was thanks to her parents' wealth. Without their funding, she basically had no reason to think she was better than anyone else. There's barely anything to her besides what was shaped by money she herself did not earn. All these things that she normally didn't care about suddenly became so relevant to her when he came into her life. Bona feels a stab at her heart as she chokes and lists all these popular girls at campus she thinks he's better off with because she thinks they're simply just leagues better than her. Heck, the only good things Bona thinks she has is her beauty and sense of style and even she's not the most beautiful nor the most stylish. She can't do , and she's sorry that he is stuck with a poor excuse of a soulmate.

Yunbin finds himself swallowing a lump in his throat, holding back some tears forming. He didn't realize this was how she felt. His precious Bona was crying because she felt that she wasn't enough for him. He's holding her tight now, apologizing over and over again. Yunbin apologizes to her for making her feel unworthy of love. The last thing he ever wanted to do was to make her feel inadequate. But he tells her that she's done more for him that she thinks she has, and it's true. She's supported him tirelessly, and that's not something that any of the popular girls in campus have done. He tells her that he is so blessed to have someone who is so enamoured by his music. Yunbin emphasizes how grateful he is to have someone who wants to watch him grow. He tells her that everything he did before he met her was fueled with spite. Bona unravelled all that. She watches him with so much love and pride that he started doing things for her. Yunbin wasn't filled with anger anymore and now he wanted to dedicate all that he did to her.

"To put it simply, Bona," Yunbin speaks crystal clear, "I really love you." The girl in his arms looks up at him in disbelief. She looks at him in disbelief because he's saying all this and confessing his love when her makeup is all ed up, her skin is splotchy, and her face is bloated. He laughs at how cute she looks, "You don't believe me, do you?" She's at a loss for words, so he keeps talking, "That's okay. I'll make you realize just how much you mean to me." The love in Yunbin's smile makes her heart swell, "We have all the time in the world."

interactions : Bona obviously mellows down like hell. Sure, it's mostly because she doesn't want to show herself as some of a soulmate, but it's also because she's just never been downright in love with somebody. Bona would literally be content if she could just sit there for hours, watching Yunbin mess around with the guitar or piano and humming out the tune as he read the music sheets in front of him. Bona commits his coffee and boba order into memory and she finds herself with a beverage in hand whenever she comes by to hang around while he practices. In fact, she makes time for these moments, almost every other day.

Yunbin easily makes fun of Bona. He can see the look in her eyes when she comes across somebody with a mismatched outfit or an unkempt appearance, and he finds it funny how bothered she can be. He teases her for it, actually. He even begins to mockingly call her 'princess' when she points out all these details on people's appearances that are trivial to him, or when she warns him about waving around his cup of coffee too much in case it spills on her Louboutins. While Yunbin always gets a laugh out of seeing Bona whine about the littlest things, he does humour her, to her surprise. Bona was joking when she demanded him to carry her on his back when she didn't want to step into the massive rain puddle. She didn't expect Yunbin to squat down in front of her. He knows he shocked her with that gesture, a smug smile nearly sneaking up on his lips.

He likes spoiling her by doing these stupid requests again and again just to see her surprised. Open the door in front of her because she doesn't want to touch the handle? After you, princess! The sun's suddenly out when she doesn't have a hat and she wants to take a longer route around just to avoid the sunlight? Alright, extra time with you, babe. Yunbin likes doing these kinds of things because he knows that there's nobody who's ever humoured her demands. He knows that she's just asking him these things as part of her humour and to revel in his reactions. Besides, he loves that dumbfounded, lovestruck look Bona gives him whenever he indulges her through his actions. She thinks she has it covered, but Yunbin can see it clear as day.

Yunbin himself realizes he's in love with her when he allows her to stay during times he would've preferred to be left alone. Bona becomes this comforting constant in his life. She becomes a reminder that there is somebody who wants to see him succeed. It's a breath of fresh air when he's lived in a family environment that wanted to twist his interests and career path into something they approved. Years after feeling like he's been talking to a wall, he finally meets Bona, who gives him undivided love and attention. He wants to smother her with love when he sees her genuinely learn about his interests. He loves their dates, but most of all, he loves those raw moments when they're both just jamming to the playlist they made together. In pajamas, being goofballs, holding hairbrushes as mics as they pretend to be in concerts. This is the Bona only he gets to see.
