Writing: Cut Scenes

You know, I write a lot, but I also delete a lot. Is anyone interested in reading all the cut scenes and want to know why I cut them? I have explanations and reasons to everything I write, or sometimes zero reasons ( also the reason to cut lol).

Of course, by deleting here I don't mean completely delete it. These are scenes I thought was so nice and a pity to completely delete, but they don't work well into the story and not really in character with my characters? But it's still nice, especially the dialogues exchange. I just copy and paste them from the original chapter to another page and save them. For the one that I completely hate, I just delete them and never want to look at them.

An example:

“But where should I go?” Her eyes lit up when she remembered her old apartment that she still had the lease for. She meant to cancel the lease when she moved in with Jinyoung but she thought that this plan wouldn’t last long so kept the lease just in case.

The apartment was a bit small, and the heating wasn’t that great, at least the bed was still there so she could unpack.

Believe it or not, but this scene or the decision to where Chaeyoung live in this chapter took a few edits. First I thought of her going back to her old apartment, but then I switch over to her living in a five star hotel.

She planned to spend his money on a five star hotel but when she went passed the door she had a second thought. “He would know if I use his card…” She whispered to herself, “But I don’t want to use my money!” She whispered aloud. She took a deep breath and rolled with the plan. She painfully pulled out her card and slowly handed it over to the front desk’s clerk and she winced when the clerk swiped it. She was then escorted up to her room.

“AHHH!!” Chaeyoung screamed at the bad decision that she had made. “My money! Why didn’t I just use his card?” She whimpered then cringed when the total cost flashed in her mind. That would quickly went up if she stayed there long. “Park Jinyoung, you better not stay with her for long!” She whined to herself before kicking her shoes off and plopped on the bed. “Well, it’s his money anyway.” She murmured to herself before turning to look at the view outside her window. Chaeyoung’s lower lip dropped, “Woah…I booked a presidential suite?” She screamed to herself before picking up her phone to text him.

Park Jinyoung, please don’t stay with her for long. I accidentally booked the presidential suite at this one hotel… a five star! My bank will run out of money! - Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung frowned, “He’s probably busy–ah?” Immediately she received a message from him.

Where? - Jinyoung

Chaeyoung chewed on her lips for a brief moment and replied, “I won’t tell you.”

I’ll see you at work. - Jinyoung

He smirked staring tenderly at his phone, brushing his finger on the wallpaper of her photo before wiring money over to her bank account.

Chaeyoung sulked when that was all the replies she got from him. “Not even a, –don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of it–? Hm…I won’t see you at work.” She decided to make friends with the squad of secretaries so she could go eat with them during lunch time instead of staying there to let him have a peek at her. Chaeyoung sighed before stretching, “Whatever, since I’m here tonight, let’s just enjoy life then go to work tomorrow.”

But that too wasn't good enough. It didn't align well with the storyline. It's their personalities and character, but if I went with her living in a five star hotel then I can't mature their relationship, move forward with their characters improvement or moving the storyline. I wanted to build up their relationship to a deeper part and the end result is that, she'd be living in an office-tel instead.

Maybe you can use your cut scenes in a new story? I know it takes a long time to write and cutting things out hurts cuz you spent time on it. Keep them all together and use them somewhere else when you get the chance. The scenes don't go to waste then.
