Happy New Year! |Top10 K-Pop songs of 2018

Happy New Year everyone!!!

I hope 2019 will be better than 2018 and it will bring you the best! I hope you’ll be loved, I wish you to be healthy and I wish you happiness!

2018 in the Korean music industry was pretty much hit or miss for me with some of the popular artists disappointing me to the core and some of the underdogs rising to popularity with amazing songs. I feel like it was a year full of different concepts but some of them weren’t so good. Not throwing shade, just telling it how it is. So, I’ve decided to pile up a little list containing my top 10 songs this year as well as some honorable mentions.

Disclaimer : This is my personal opinion! Feel free to agree or disagree with this but don't be a about it. It's 2019, please learn to respect people's opinions.

Honorable mentions:

  1. Infinite – Tell me. Though I’m not the biggest Infinite fan, I really liked their recent comebacks and I am really excited about what they’re going to come up with next. It’s sad that Hoya left but I hope he and the band continue to gain success.
  2. Dreamcatcher – You and I. I freaking love the concepts of this band. For some reason unknown to me, I kind of slept on them this year but I promise I will give them more attention in 2019 because they are amazing! Love the rock vibes!
  3. Jennie – Solo. Honey, you’re not solo anymore, you’ve got Kai.
  4. Nu’est W- Let Me Out. Beautiful OST for a very awesome drama. I don’t get why people didn’t like A Korean Odyssey –Go watch it!-, it’s a really good drama! I am generally not a big fan of OST’s but this one is really good. I love their voices!
  5. APink- I’m so sick. Jesus, what a change of concept and style! I’m shocked but in a very good way. If they continue on this path, I will not sleep on them! Please Apink, make me a pink panda!
  6. Seungri - The Great Seungri album. He worked really hard, the songs are really good but people have been sleeping on him for so long so please give him a chance!

Now, for my top 10:

  1. Pentagon – Shine.

I jammed to this song all summer long. I love the cheerful vibe it gives me and I can’t help but dance when I hear it. My personal favorite part is Yuto’s rap, that boy does things to me and I smile like an idiot when I hear ‘Yutoda!’

I am really sad that E’Dawn left, and sadly it won’t be the same without him but I do hope they become successful!

  1. Red Velvet – Bad Boy.

Red Velvet was always hit-or-miss for me because I am very picky when it comes to concepts and honestly the fruit cute concept kind of bugged me. I am not a really big fan of cute girly concepts in general and this song was a night change. It’s y, it’s fierce, it’s everything I wanted from this band. Love the vocals and the vibe it gives me. I hope for more songs that include this concept because it’s really amazing.

  1. IKon – Killing me.

These boys are coming for my wig and I will gladly hand it to them. I love this song so much and you can constantly hear me sing it through the house. Again, with them, I had hit-or-miss songs as their previous songs didn’t do anything for me. I hope hearing more stuff like this in the future and I wish them well.

  1. Mamamoo – Starry Night.

I admired Mamamoo for their talent since their debut but this song made me really fall for them. I sang it all summer long and I am still singing it in my broke voice. There’s something about this piece of perfectness that makes me so calm. They are growing to be my favorite girl group and I haven’t had a favorite girl group since 2NE1 so that’s saying something.

  1. Highlight – Loved.

Since leaving Cube and forming their own company –something I pray that B.A.P. does- these boys are beasts! Haha, get it? Lame joke aside, they are very good! Honestly, did they ever make a bad song? Their vocals, the rap, their harmonics, and concepts are really up my alley and they seem to hit the spot every time. Same goes for this song which is fairly new but it managed to hit me hard. I know some of them, if not all, are going to enlist soon so this makes me sad. How will I resist a couple of years without you guys?

  1. NCT127 – Regular.

What are you doing NCT? Why are you tormenting my existence? Yuta, why are you looking at me like that? Stop it! Or better, don’t ever stop, baby don’t stop. Love the song, love the choreography, love the vibe. SM, you’re doing a good job and I hope you won’t ruin them because the potential that they have is amazing. Keep making songs like that and I will love you!

P.S.: Yuta, call me, maybe?

    4. BlackPink – DDU-DU DDU-DU.

Blackpink in your area! Honestly, the girls are on fire! I loved the song from the first note which is quite rare for me but it seems that YG knows what I like and they really want me to make BlackPink my favorite girl group. I still don’t trust YG and I hope they won’t ruin this because I feel like they’re on their way to massive success. I love the choreography, I love bridge, I love everything and Rose is so beautiful <3

  1. VIXX – Scentist.

I am a er for VIXX’s concepts. They are undeniably the kings of concepts and I don’t know what is going on in those brains of them but I want inside. They are honestly the most underrated band in the history of K-Pop. Their songs are absolute genius and their choreography and vibe are something I haven’t seen in anyone yet. I wonder what they will come up with next. Stan VIXX, stan talent!

  1. MonstaX – Shootout.

Holy Mother of God, I need to cleanse my body and soul after seeing this. I have not expected such a cool song coming from MonstaX. Don’t get me wrong, they rarely disappoint but this song completely blew me away. They’re climbing up my favorite band list quicker than any band on this list. I love a fierce dark concept and they do it so well.

P.S.: Shownu, please teach me how to shake my body like jelly. I just can’t with that move…

  1. Exo – Love Shot.

I have never thought an EXO song could hit me that hard. Not that I am not an EXO lover because I love them –Xiumin especially- but Love Shot had me dead and buried in the last weeks. I am a er for y concepts, y boys in suits with guns filled with strange liquids y concepts!  The only proper way to describe this song is by screaming ‘YES SHOOT ME WITH THAT LOVE SHOT’ and I don’t regret saying this. I was not impressed by Tempo because honestly, they could do much better and this one just proves it. I completely screwed up the replay button when it first appeared and I regret nothing. Love the concept, love the suits, love everything!

P.S.: Xiumin, I hope that liquid in your gun is holy water mixed with chamomile tea or something because you are evil and I need to cleanse myself. Okay, I’ll go in the bad corner now awaiting punishment.

So, there it is my top 10 songs of 2018. I won’t lie, this was hard to make because honestly, I would’ve put the first 5 songs on the number one position if I could. The year had good and bad songs and I am hoping for more greatness in 2019! Now, I need to go to Church! –Someone tell VIXX to do a Priest concept ASAP.

That was really great, thank you!
My biggest surprise this year was Shinee’s Bum Key solo album, it is amazing and I have listened to it every day since it’s release. I just can’t stop, it’s like a drug XD
Also I really loved The Great Seungri, every single song was perfection. The other group that really caught my attention this year was Ikon, I have become a big fan, these boys are amazing!
Damn! How could I forget NCT? These guys are the ! I have a feeling they will become SM’s flagship.
Hoping for great things in 2019! I have fallen down the K-pop rabbit hole and it seems there’s no going back now... Just call me Alice xD
