Fanfiction asks!

Taken from: sathinfection

I saw this on Salt-of-Ao3 tumblr and thought it'd be fun to answer them.

  1. What made you start writing fanfic?

When I couldn’t find anything to read for my biases. Technically, I started to write when I couldn’t find anything I imagined. I basically write so I can go back and read them during my stress moment.

  1. Which of your own fanfics have you reread the most?

Um…All that is currently active that I need to finish. This is because I edit them a few times before I update, even after I update I’d go back and reread them to edit them. Even more when I took break/go on hiatus and I need to go back and update, I’d read the whole story again to continue writing them. Even if the story has about 100k words already, I won’t update unless I refresh my memories by finishing rereading it.

  1. Describe the differences between your first fanfic and your most recent fanfic.

I’ll put this simply. My first fanfic was 10 years ago in script format. It was a crack fanfic with all the embarrassing tropes. My most recent fanfic is clichéd and angst. I don’t see a different… just no script format LOL.

  1. Do you think your style has changed over time? How so?

Oh definitely! The more I write, the more I learn the best way to write dialogues/descriptions that run smoothly in my story. It’s more of me trying to find what I like in writing so when I go back and read them, I’d greatly enjoy them.

  1. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?

I don’t think anyone would know since I switch up style a lot. Unless this is an avid reader of mine who noticed my pattern in writing. ( I myself noticed a pattern, but idk how to even describe it.)

  1. Name three stories you found easy to write.

“My Love is Still the Same”, “Pro Gamers”, “The Hours”
- These three are easy to write because they have small cast, not a lot of characters and I believed with the recent “My Love is Still the Same” I have figured out a way to write in term of grammar and piecing scenarios together.

  1. Name three stories you found difficult to write.
  • “The Red Prince” (There is a reason I haven’t updated it for two years now)
    • It’s a fantasy story and I need to read on mythology to write further.
  •  “Autumn is Here!” (it’s a little hard because the cast is a bit big.),
  • “Sixteen Kingdoms (Three Days Emperor, The Green Jade’s Song)”
    • This is a fantasy story with a huge cast. It’s a series so there is no way I can finish this in a year or two.
  1. What’s your ratio of hits to kudos?

This is from tumblr which is more cater to AO3.

I don’t care or notice. Since I write what they called rare-pairs, I don’t expect much. I’m glad I have subscribers and readers, that is all. I mean, I am writing for GOT7’s fandom but shipping them with female idols and not even picking a popular fxm ship at that LOL. Everyone in GOT7 fandom shipped Jisoo x Jinyoung, I went for Jisoo x Jaebum, so I know what I’m getting myself into.

  1. What do your fic bookmarks say about you?

Um…as a writer, I don’t know if I should say this, but I actually don’t read fanfics…I know it sounds like I’m not supporting the fanfic community, but this is mainly because I am a picky reader. This is why I write, because I am not satisfied with what I searched for to read.

I mostly bookmark graphic shops and hilarious writing guides.

  1. What’s a theme that keeps coming up in your writing?

Majority of my fanfic has fantasy element in it. But the one theme I love to use all the freaking time is the connection and relation between characters. Mostly they know each other since childhood. I don’t know, I just find that theme amusing and intricate to use. I move a lot growing up so my friends were never the same. If I don’t move, my friends moved, therefore, I don’t try and make close friends up until I started uni. So I guess this is why I found this trope interesting to explore?

  1. What kind of relationships are you most interested in writing?

I like romance and friendship. I try to explore human interactions even among strangers as best and most as I can. I do this so I can write dialogues. One of the thing I enjoy doing is just writing dialogues. Because I am terrible at talking in real life, I can use my imagination to write up responses that I thought would be better than what irl people responses to me. Hahahaha.

  1. For E-rated fic, what are some things your characters keep doing?

Uh…I think I write too many missionary position stuff. I need to switch up. I had in mind to switch it up but most of the pair I write E-rated stuff for rely on their emotions and feelings, and going to a different position would have them out of characters, so I have to tread carefully around this subject. Although there is one pair that is very , but I haven’t written for them since so long… they’re the main of “Pro-gamers” if you read it LOL.

  1. Name three favorite characters to write.

Yo, this is hard! I love all of my characters. I have reasons to love all of them and reasons to write for them. Even for the evil characters.

I think, it would be Kim Naeun from “My Love Is Still the Same”. This girl is a mess. She’s the antagonist that I am so satisfied with. I always wanted to write a character like this but not just make her straight out evil and full of jealousy and envies toward the mains. She has to have her own personality and character that makes her jealous and envious and it’s not all because of the dudes. It’s just her own character that make her skeptical of people. To briefly explain Naeun to you: She’s that girl that love to fight for a married/taken man and believed that people are out to compete with her and that everyone are cunning people because she’s the same. She looks at people the way she looks at herself. If she’s cunning and a ‘fox’, then so are other people, female mostly. She’s raised to think that way.

Jisoo/Gaeul in “Today…For You” and “Autumn is Here!”, I only finished “Today…For You” so you haven’t seen her full character, yet. I can’t fully describe to you why I love her because I think if I say ‘she’s so damn cute’ you wouldn’t think much since a lot of characters in my fanfics are cute. The thing is, I just enjoy writing her responses to Jaebum in each installment of the story as they grow older and meeting each other under different circumstances.

  1. You’re applying for the fanfic writer of the year award. What five fanfics do you put in your portfolio?

None. I am very insecure with my creative stuff. I don’t want my personal work to be judged by others. I don’t major in art even though I love it to death because of this reason. I also enjoy people randomly finding my writing and fall for it ^^.

  1. Question of your choice! (How did you end up with your pairings?)

I write for GOT7 most of the time. My favorite gg is Blackpink, so I end up pairing them together and I have a fixed pairing for them with exception of Lisa. I just think it’s easier to keep to the same pair since I’m so used to them. Although after I finished all these GOT7 x Blackpink pairing fanfic that I have, I’ll just go back to OCs.

The fixed pairs:
Jaebum x Jisoo
Jinyoung x Chaeyoung
Jackson x Jennie
Mark x Air… ( hahahaha )
Maknae line x Lisa ( this has got to be the most interesting one, I just wish I can finish “Autumn is Here” so you can understand why.)

I started to write for GOT7 x Blackpink way before Jinyoung and Jisoo started the MC gig for Music Bank?. Jaebum x Jisoo pairing started way before that as well. So I’m just sticking to them instead of going for the now really popular pair of Jisoo x Jinyoung. I also often go for pairings that no one ship anyway, it has been my style since I started writing fanfic.

Recently I enjoy writing for Jinyoung x Chaeyoung. I think in real life they have somewhat of an opposite personality from each other and I thought of the idea ‘opposite attract’ to write for them and it seem to fit. You know what, I think I just prefer writing pairs that I think are not alike or have similarity with each other. I don’t know, most of the time I just use photos to match them together like what I did while pairing up Jimin with Jieqiong and Yugyeom with Tzuyu in “The Green Jade’s Song”.
