What Inspires You? Part One: Villains

Hello everyone!

We all have books and films that bring us inspiration, whether in character development or in a storytelling. I thought I would share four film and television villains that have stood out to me over the years and I invite you to share which antagonists have stood out for you as well. ^_^

1: Top Dollar (The Crow)

I think of this character as a villain I couldn't really hate. Michael Wincott brought a very strong, charismatic presence to his character along with his signature dark, husky voice. I watched this film in junior high and this character still stands out to me to this day.

Catherine: Cruel Intentions

I'm not quite sure what drew me in to this character played by a Buffy-era Sarah Michelle Gellar, but I found myself intrigued by her and wanted to watch each manipulation of her's play out. Cruel Intentions was the movie that inspired me to improve the way I wrote antagonists.

Maleficent: Sleeping Beauty

I know, it's a Disney cartoon character, but when I was a kid I was completely fascinated and terrified of her at the same time. There was something about her character design, presence and voice that made her my favorite villain. So much so that, for me, she stood out more than the princess.

Joffrey Lanaster: Game of Thrones:

This was a character I absolutely loved to hate. Everything about him just seemed full of sociopathic malice, but he was written so well I pretty much looked forward to seeing what he would do next.

So, if you have any film, television or book villains that have influenced how you write your antagonists, please let me know. I would really like to see what Inspires other creators on here and would even like to check the characters out myself.
