Give a man a love, a family, a good home, and he'll be happy for a week, maybe a month. Give a man jewels and riches, and he'll be happy for life - that is, if he's clever enough to not waste it like a complete and utter moron.
Lee Eunmi is not a moron.
Have you not heard of the tale of how she and her band of Merry Men (...fine, not her Merry Men, the Merry Men. Small difference.) and how they stole the glass slipper from the Glass castle - yes, the glass slipper. Have you heard about how she, after fleeing from the Genie army of Agra, had been stranded in the middle of the Trident ocean and had managed to return to the land by learning the merepeople language and marrying one of their princesses? That, my friends, is Lee Eunmi.
... Very well. Perhaps some of the tales are a bit far-fetched, but it's only partly her fault. They spread like the plague, rumors, and if you don't treat them they just keep on spreading and spreading and before you know it you're wanted in 3 different countries, sometimes for things you haven't even committed. Eunmi doesn't mind. On the contrary, she relishes these rumors, these tales of greatness that worship her and what she's (for the most part) done. She adores the reputation and the prestige it grants her, both among her fellow professionals and the masses. Call her vain and she will bat her lashes and ask how could one possibly not be vain with a face like that? And if you might try to argue that she's not even that pretty, she will laugh and call you out on your obvious lack of taste. Eunmi's taste is nothing short of impeccable, and Eunmi absolutely loves herself, so she must be right.
Her taste? Truly is impeccable, she is not joking. Velvet gowns and emerald jewels and golden rings... she adores them all. Gold is so pretty, jewels are stunning with their sparkling and all the things that they can buy. Comfort, respect, health. Being an orphan... well it truly, truly . She had known hunger and she had known filth. She had known sleeping on the floor of a back alley surrounded by the stench of , and she had known rummaging through the moldy leftovers the baker had thrown away in the alley behind his house. Eunmi wishes to never repeat these experiences ever again. To her, being rich is the ultimate solution. She has extremely materialistic, always thinking about how to gain from a situation and how to get more. Her hunger for good had been replaced with a hunger for money in fear that one day what she has might not be enough. She always wants more, always needs more, and at this point she no longer knows if it's because she's afraid to go back to the streets or if she has simply become obsessed with more and more and more. In any way, she doesn't care. The alternative is far, far worse, and she is no angel as it is.
Eunmi is aware of her... lesser qualities. She knows that being selfish is considered a bad thing. She doesn't really get why, but she knows. To her, though, it's the only way of living. ]Thinking about someone else above herself is a weakness that can get you to starve. It can get you a lesser cut of the profits. It can get you killed. Above all, it just feels good, being selfish. Doing something for someone else? How could it ever compare?
The desire to gain, to do something for herself is ever present, and over the years Eunmi had developed the necessary skills to sustain that desire. She has always been clever, even as a child, and as she grew she learned to put it to good use. She became more calculating, a quick thinker that is able to come up with plans (oftentimes crazy) on the spot when needed. She learned to read people as much as maps and letters, getting help from her natural roughish charisma and charm. Outwardly, Eunmi is quite likable, or at least intriguing and charming. It's quite easy to forget that she is a killer and a thief and that she mostly does things because they benefit her, simply because she has a killer smile and a great sense of humor and an ability to talk herself out of any situation. She doesn't seem intimidating at all - with her goofy jokes and fear of bugs and her comically dumb questions - which is exactly how she wants it, all part of her grand manipulation. History:
Eunmi grew up on the streets of ________, and quickly learned that being a thief means you were less hungry than the other orphans. She was later picked up by one of the Merry Men, and joined their rank. the Merry Men where notorious thieves that pillaged and plundered and were known and feared, but then one moron (Korean Robin Hood) decided to take their fortunes and help the poor. So the others killed him, but without their fortunes and money they became desperate and tried to pull off something that they couldn't do and so each of them was forced into hiding, and that's how Eunmi ended up a farmer in Winter even though she hates every second of it and wants her riches and comfort back (which is why she's so drawn to the palace and the ball)
And the full moon has made her lose her temper before, and she's killed and it was not great. But now, alone and bitter and poor, she's getting more irratible and every full moon is worse and worse.
And her arc is finding out that she rather likes being the hero too, she likes how good it feels to help, how good it feels when someone else is happy, not just her. She comes to understand the Korean Robin Hood (and feel super guilty about his death)
