Doori didn't really think that she would end up as the main vocalist and leader of an idol girl group, but life had always loved to surprise her in one way or another.

Her fascination with music had begun when she was but a wee child, playing around with the old piano in the back of the living room of their small apartment. In the first year of high school, Doori started considering pursuing it as a career. Music fascinated her, and she was good at it (unlike the other subjects at school that she paid little attention to). Not even her parents objected when she decided not to go to college and focus on music instead. She, along with two of her school friends Park Hyesoo and Kim Dongchul, formed a band during their senior year of high school in 2008, and after graduating, focused solely on it. The band, named Magnus, focused on an indie sound, and tried to experiment with various genres to create something unique. All three of them were knowledgeable with instruments, but Hyesoo and Dongchul's vocals lacked, and so the task of singing fell on to Doori. It turned out she wasn't half bad at it. Her voice was pleasant and good enough for recording.

Naturally, Magnus fit right into the underground scene of Korea - with no managing company and no promotions, with no connections and nothing to speak of, there was nothing in their power to get mainstream, but it wasn't all that bad. In fact, Doori quite liked it. The underground scene contained a lot of interesting people who became her friends, and the places Magnus got to perform were full of people who cared about their music and their unique sound. The only problem was that there was no income to what they were doing, and her parents were getting more agitated by the day - Doori didn't go to university to "focus on her career", and yet she wasn't even working. Hyesoo and Dongchul experienced similar difficulties. The underground scene came to the rescue. A friend of theirs was currently working on a song for Brown Eyed Girls, and was willing to collaborate. The four of them were credited for the song "How Come", and the company liked their work enough to offer more work. At that point Dongchul and Hyesoo were offered to work as a producer in a different company, but Doori accepted the job and worked with a team to produce what would become BEG's hit song "Abracadabra". But after that getting more work became hard, and with Dongchul and Hyesoo occupied with their producing jobs, Doori was in a pickle.

And then one of Doori's old friends from the underground scene called her, and told her that he knew of a CEO that was recruiting girls for an upcoming girl group that his company was planning on making. Without anything else to do, Doori decided to give it a shot. Her audition was solely singing. A day later she got a call telling her that she was starting her training next week.

Doori trained under Pandora for three years before debuting in Vista, and during that time she gave it her all, training from morning till evening in singing and dancing. She ended up debuting as the main vocalist, having improved a lot (though still nowhere near as skilled as some of the prominent vocalists of the industry).

The following years as Vista were hard, to say the least. Their debut flopped, and the desperate switch to a y concept failed to garner any attention whatsoever. Again, Doori felt like she wasn't doing anything with her life. No income, no future in sight. She was making music, but it wasn't the sort of music-making that she fell in love with years ago. The stage wasn't for her. Fortunately, around the time one of her old contacts called her and wanted to collaborate to make a song for Girl's Day. "Something" was both a huge hit, and made her a known name in the producing industry. That was when Doori bought out her contract from Pandora, and ended her idol career.

As a producer, life was simply so much better. Doori worked with numerous acts, mostly kpop and idols, on title tracks and bsides alike. She became an in-house producer for Banana Culture, all while working with other various groups and producing their songs too. She wasn't known to the public other than the occasional name-drop from the media, but the inside of the industry knew her well. She was pleasant to work with, and became friends with various idols, producers, managers. She was loved and respected, and had achieved more than she could have ever dreamed of.

And then came August 8, 2018.

There is this dance that Doori oh so loves, the waltz of her life, her feelings and thoughts. She grips them tight, hand in hand, and moves a step forward. And then two steps back. And she twirls to the music, hanging on to dear life. And life smiles back and grips her waist harder, comforting yet painful, the only thing that keeps her from getting swept off her feet. She loves this dance, but it's hard and hurts her feet and sometimes she is not sure how long she needs to dance for, and how long she will survive.

She loves the life that surrounds her. The world is beautiful, full of wonderful things and wonderful people that create and inspire. She is in awe of people like that, has always been. How could she not be? They breathe life into life, they help, they nurture, they make the world better. For as long as she remembers herself, Doori wished to be like that. She tries, she always tries, but when she does it never quite feels the same. She doesn't know why. Perhaps it's conviction, perhaps it's a natural talent. She doesn't care what others may say - she knows that it's not as good, she knows that it's not enough.
