unpopular opinion involving shipping

I feel like I haven't blogged in a while (probably bc of deadlines and struggles) so here we are with another blog rip

anyways, I just wanted to rant on this topic that you probably already know about bc you read the title, right? so here's my (most likely very) unpopular opinion about shipping (particularly in the kpop community although it can apply to other stuff too). if you are 100% going to get triggered by anything vaguely disagreeing with your opinion... don't read?

onto the mini-rant.

I've been seeing people shipping members of groups ever since, well, I got into kpop? which, don't get me wrong, I'm okay with it. I get that it's fun and all that and it's sort of part of the kpop culture, and it's just overall nice to write about ships and make graphics for them and read about them and whatnot-- and imo that's perfectly normal and it's okay. I don't ship myself (personally bc I like to write about OCs haha), but I understand why people do it and I support it.

What I don't really get is when people start yelling "CHANBAEK IS REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL"
(or, e.g. any other ship, although I'm just bringing up Chanbaek as my example bc it's everywhere)

I just really hate the saying 'this ship is real' bc it doesn't feel right to me for people to be pushing these relationships realistically on idols? If Chanyeol makes an instagram post declaring to the world that he's dating Baek, go on and spam everything with "CHANBAEK MY SHIP OMG IT'S REAL NO DOUBT", bc one of the people in the ship themselves just confirmed it, so it's alright to do that. But if Chanyeol posts a picture of Baekhyun on his instagram and people are screaming "CHANBAEK CHANBAEK IT'S OFFICIAL EVERYONE"..................

why??

Can he not post a picture of Baekhyun for no reason? If people are just claiming that Chanbaek is real bc Baekhyun freaking liked-- oh my god, can you believe, a whole THREE of Chanyeol's pictures on Chan's social media accounts-- that seems a little far-fetched?

I get that people want to have fun with it and I'm perfectly okay if someone's saying it not really seriously, but some people I've seen are actually serious and scientifically dissecting every small action made by so-and-so with so-and-so just because so-and-so always sits next to so-and-so whenever they can. it's actually kinda scary for me to see people flooding comments with 'it'S REALLL' bc that's just......

idk. I don't think I'm making a very good point

bc I'm terrible at explaining

or maybe it's just that I don't get the shipping culture enough

but shipping sort of scares me now

;v;

oh, also not targeting anyone in specific, it's just something that I've been seeing for a while now throughout everything

Fam!! [hug]

I can totally understand where you’re coming from bc honestly, this kind of fans are so crazy about their ships, it’s annoying and scary. It’s okay to ship your idols together, it’s all in the fun and entertainment. But, to start thinking that they’re ACTUALLY together? Well, unless they said otherwise, just, why? Why would you even start to think that it’s real?

I totally get you with this!
I stan groups but I don't ship them romantically tgther but I'm fine with others doing it as long as they don't cross a line by writing them in abusive relationship (Well, I think they can write about it but they shouldn't be glorify it and encourage it as I've already seen a ff doing it on wattpad and that goes with every ship) but also when people act like they've never joked with their friends, I mean friends flirtying together but not being serious about it.
Another thing that truly bothers me is when shippers hate on a idol because that idol dated another idol they shipped with someone else and start calling the relationship fake? Like dispatch literally followed them during their free time to get a glimpse of idols dating during their private time meaning they are not working... I mean okay music/ent industry is shady but don't act like everything is black!
Also, I think who says "___ is real!" are usually the fans shipping members with eo (straight ship shippers would get backlash from it in my opinion) but my reaction is like "Okay, yes they are friends and their friendship is real?"
Anyway, everything is fine when ppl knows that it's fun play and as long as their not crossing the line like soemone screaming ____ is real in the streets at an ice cream events *throwing shade at a youtuber*
Just hope people would stop objectifying idols and act like they own the and that they should be "faithful" to their fans

Not really unpopular but honestly it's a good reminder that people should know what to say on other people's post and learn to know their boundaries in commenting stuffs related to shipping things on the individual account.
Ugh, that probably doesn't make sense but what I'm trying to say they should know not to make anything related to their shipping imagination so obvious on that person account.
Honestly I'm always bother whenever I saw the comments sections on the official videos, accs, or any platform that the individual of the ship can see and read. It's usually filled with ship related comments that I honestly wouldn't want them to see especially if they didn't even come out. I mean sure mentioned the ship name for the individual for me doesn't really bother me but to stated that "hey, this ship is real blah blah blah" is just annoyed me because it's like they are trying to prove that this couple is real..
Why can't they just take those pictures and fangirl at other place where the actual person can't really see them..

Ughh, I should have comment this using pc bcs now my words scrabbling orz

I don’t think your opinion is unpopular. Pushing stuff onto idols in real life has always been creepy, no matter what it is.
I’m a shipper and I was once asked how I saw Onkey in real life. My only answer was “I believe they’re good friends”. (And a little more in depth on why I think they work out as friends but it was all platonic). And even though I ship Onkey romantically I just don’t feel like it is something everybody else needs to know unless they share the interest, you know? ;-;
People that spend their time dissecting “evidence” anyone is dating is going way out of line. That goes for practically /anyone/, but especially straight ships. Because straight ships are much more likely to “reach” the media’s and create scandals.

Just ... I don’t know, what a waste of energy to look at “evidence”. There’s gotta be something else that has you shipping two people than the overwhelming belief they’re together.
(Also, there are some ships out there with fans so dedicated that they disregard every other interaction with anyone or even is mean when idol a interacts with someone else but the other part of their ship. That’s just so .... *goosebumps*.)

Yeah the "(insert shipname) is real" is really kinda annoying..lol i find annoying especially to those shippers of this popular pair...maybe those who ships less popular are less in that kind of things...hmmm

OMFG THIS TICKS ME OFF SOOO MUCH (I thought shipping was shopping at first and I was like, what???). Like you said, chanbaek is EVERYWHERE and even at the smallest things that doesn't seem like a legit reason, they go out of their way and say, "OMG CHANBAEK IS REAL!" I wanna flip a table sometimes because of how serious people are with shipping. CALM THE HECK DOWN, SHIPPERS (not every shipper, but like you said, the very S-E-R-I-O-U-S shippers). Like, fans don't have the right to claim what they are. Some go out of their way to prove that two members are gay and together by showing photos of them just INTERACTING. And I'm like, "hfkakjsjflsk HOW?????"

Nonetheless, I agree with you.

yeah i know what you mean. the fandom for one direction (no shade as i'm part of it) is just as bad with harry styles and louis tomlinson. like it's kinda scary how intense they are about larry LOL imo they're the worst when it comes to shipping, but, even tho i ship baekyeol more than any ship i've ever had, baekyeol shippers are up there as well. i'd say the same for kaisoo. plus i just hate people labeling idols as straight or gay or bi or whatever. i get doing it in good fun or just being curious because i've questioned some of their ualities, but i've never been like "baekhyun is 100% gay no doubt" and then fight everyone who thinks otherwise. don't get me wrong, i don't label everyone as straight either, but i really just don't feel comfortable when people are like "sehun is definitely gay" or "jongdae is definitely straight" if you know what i mean. bc no one actually knows except them lol i'm not really sure what this rant was about but yeah

I really dislike the "[insert ship] is soooo real~~" mostly because it's usually gay ships and I hate when people push their ideal ualities onto others. Controversial thing right here but 98% of idols are most likely straight, and the ones that are gay or bi aren't going to come out. Their careers and lives will be destroyed. Yet somehow people don't understand that.

On the Chanbaek topic. Chanyeol made a post to his instagram one time and it was a screenshot of a group chat for someone's birthday (can't remember who). And in the chat Baekhyun's name was written 백현이 (Baekhyun-i) and a fan commented on the picture saying something like "Baekhyunie?! OMG Chanbaek is real!!". That kind of delusion is a bit strange to me.

And I really REALLY hate the idea that because two guys are close to each other then they have to be ing or dating or whatever else people might think. Men are allowed to be close to each other and just be friends. I'm personally not into shipping, but I can kinda see the appeal behind it. Just the delusional stuff needs to stop.

XD ahahahahaha I think most of us shippers do it for the fun. But I get how annoying it can be. It's hard to bring back some shippers to reality. I know this-- cuz I've dealt with this myself lolololol

I comment saying "this ship sails" or "i ship it". I don't say "____ is real" anymore because being a couple isn't all there is. But I say instead "This is love! ;A; " Because I know that members in groups love each other as friends or brothers. this is something no one can take away at least!

But I don't get how a simple picture on ig/tw can mean they're a couple. That's something I don't get >.<,, I'd rather watch videos of them having real moments together than that lol
