PSA: Luhan's last name is not Xi.

not targeting this towards anyone, but there's just been misunderstandings going around that Luhan's last name is "Xi" when it's actually "Lu". felt to clear this up. Xi is something created by fans to make western culture match up with Chinese culture. His surname is actually Lu (鹿) and his first name CHARACTER is Han (晗), but people aren't going to go around and refer to him as 'Han' because that's not how the language works. They just call him Lu Han. no idea where Xi came from, but it's not his last name. I could care less if people use it in fanfics (bc well, fanfics) but it's not alright when they insist that in real life, his last name is Xi. that's kinda wrong.

and why do I know? I speak Chinese. 

k, I'm trustworthy and credible. now, let's not spread this misunderstanding?? 

 

p.s. how awkward would it be it was like... idk, Taylor Swift Smith?? or Ariana Grande Jackson? 

please no.

Well said this has been happening because of the korean fans calling him Luhan-sshi. and the reason the misunderstanding happened was because fans that didn't understand Chinese or Korean at that time would have speculated on the fact that his last name was Xi.

I think I made an argument about this a few years ago here as well, what a joke that nowadays there's still people believing that his family name is Xi. Great God. Have some sense, peps. HAHA!

Honestly, when I joined the fandom for the first time, I got so confused by the ‘Xi’ in Luhan’s name. Like, all my life I only ever heard people call him ‘Luhan’, where is this ‘Xi’ coming from?? I get really upset when people call him ‘Xi’ Luhan. It’s uncomfortable when I see it in fanfics, but I get really angry when people actually say that it’s his name. Just, no, don’t.

I’m thinking the xi probably came from people who like Luhan and like 我喜欢鹿晗 so comes xi Luhan.

Tbh it wouldn't be an issues since this only related to fanfics stories, unless you make it an issue to keep pestering people his real name is xi luhan.
I mean, in stories name can be anything and it doesn't necessary to be related with real people? That's the point of writing, literally just so it can be based on your creativity and imagination.

It make things easier with xi luhan cause i might ended up turning his Han name into pet name like hannie or something lool

I'm Chinese. In our culture , its very important to protect the family's name ( surname ) at all cost. In short , when it comes to their surname , its best not to joke or be disrespectful because it will be seen as something unforgivable .

For example like me , I use my surname alot than my own name. However if I done some mistake or anything that I not proud off , I will not include my family name .. Thats just how important and how much we value our surname. On the other hand , if I received awards or did anything praise worthy , I would be proud to use my family name as honor.

I heard that the Xi came from how people call him 'Lu Han sshi' which eventually became Xi Lu Han.
