IMPORTANT TO EVERY AUTHOR-NIM IN HERE 2

I'm back with a second part to help you with the english grammar !

So, you can check the first part if you haven't here and then come to read this one^^

Let's keep on then !

7)

A very common mistake : 'then' and 'than'.

This one may not seem important but it really makes a big difference when you read it. The meaning of the sentence changes and sometimes it doesn't make sense at all.

'then' is a synonym of 'afterwards', 'next'. It can also mean 'at that moment'.

For example, John was walking in the empty streets around his school. Then, Rose came out of nowhere, jumping on his back.

'Than' helps to make a comparison.

For example, She is smarter than he is

8)

Capital letters.

I know, it's hard to write in capital letters because you have to begin every sentence with one, when you write I, when you write a character's name,... I know it's inconvenient but it's more simple to read and the difference is important.

For example, USA vs usa or I see you vs i see you.

Just try doing the effort if you write directly on AFF and if you write on Word first and then copy/paste everything, Word inserts a capital automatically so I don't see how there can be a problem. If you still don't want to respect the capitals, write a warning at the beginning of the story !^^

9)

'beside' and 'besides'

So this one is a minor mistake but a lot of people do it and that's a shame when the story is very good. The meaning of the sentence changes.

'Beside' is a synonym of 'near', 'at the side of', 'next to'.

For example, I keep a flashlight beside by bed or He doesn't seem as short beside the other men

'Besides' means 'also', 'as well', 'otherwise'. Sometimes, you can write it 'beside' BUT it's better to write it with an 's' if you don't want the readers to be confused.

For example, It's a good day for a walk, and besides, I need the exercise. I have washed the dishes but nothing else besides.

It can also mean 'other than', 'except'.

For example, There's nobody home besides me and the dog

10)

'man', 'men', 'mens' and 'mans'.

So, this one hurts.

'Men' is the plural of 'man'. 'Man' is part of the some words in English which doesn't take an 's' in the plural form.

When you use 'men', you must NEVER put an 's' at the end because it's already in the plural form.

So, I think that's all for now... If you have any other suggestions, tell me in the comments or PM me, I'll do another blog if there are enough^^

Once more, I'm not making fun of or scolding anyone, I just want to help.

I hope it helped some of you and that you'll keep on using this and the other part in your writings^^

Have a nice day/night !
