IMPORTANT TO EVERY AUTHOR-NIM IN HERE

It's been so long since the last time I posted a blog ! But this one is VERY IMPORTANT.

Hi to the persons who may read this blog right now that I don't know but would gladly become friends with and hi to the people who already know me^^

I'm here to talk about a matter that's been bothering me even before I signed in : spelling and grammar in English.

Don't take it to heart please and even though my English isn't perfect (because not my main language) I cry blood every time I see too many typos. What's saddening me is the fact that there are REALLY GOOD stories but because of those mistakes, they become hard to read and so some people unsubscribe or just don't follow the story anymore.

So I'm here to give you the most important mistakes I see and maybe help you with them^^ If you think you have a problem with English grammar/ortograph and/or syntax, welcome !

1)

The first one is the most common one and the one that hurts my eyes the most : 'your' and 'you're'.

'Your' is the possessive like in Where are your parents? . To memorise it, you have to remember that in first person it's 'mine'.

'You're' is the contraction of 'you are' which is the conjugation of 'to be' in the second person. You're beautiful = You are beautiful. If you're still confused, just use 'you are' and don't contract it.

If you don't know which one to use, question if you are conjugating 'to be' or just using the possessive.

2)

The second one is about 'in' and 'on'.

Well, this one is kinda hard. It really depends on the situation.

'On' is usually used for something that is over something else as in The book you are searching for is on (over/on top of) the table. But it is also used to point out the belonging : He has been on the football team for ages. Sometimes, 'on' can be replaced by 'onto' but we will see that later.

'In' is mostly used for things that are... inside (basically). Like You're in (inside) my heart , Can you just put it in (inside) the oven ? , etc. 'In' can also be replaced by 'into'. It can indicate the language He is talking in English, how you are feeling She is in shock,...

If you are still confused, you can use a dictionnary, everything is explained.

3)

I'll pass over this quickly to not bother you too much with 'onto', 'into' and 'unto'.

For 'onto' and 'into', if you followed well until now and taken notes (lol) you know that they are equals to 'on' and 'in'.

'Unto' is used as a replacement for 'until' and 'towards'. It is not frequently used but if you want to show off a little bit, you can use it^^

4)

Okay, this one is IMPORTANT. 'We'll' and 'will'.

:sigh: This physically hurts when I see it lmao

'We'll' is the contraction of 'we will'. 'Will' marks the future.

The sentence that I see almost everywhere and I swear I was close to tears for having seen it too many times in a story is 'Don't worry, will help you'. Just.no. 'Will' isn't conjugated here, you have to conjugate it so it's supposed to be 'we'll'. If you're not sure, just use 'we will' and it's gonna be alright.

5)

This one is a tiny one : the difference between 'an' and 'a'.

It may not seem too important but I talked about it with an English friend of mine and she said that although she likes to read fanfictions, this bothers her a bit.

'An' is used if the following word begins with a vowel. If not, 'a' is used.

6)

'His' and 'he's'

'His' is the possessive. In the feminine it's 'her' so you just have to remember that. Try thinking/writing for a girl (if you're writing for a guy) and see if it goes well. If it doesn't, it means that you should use 'he's' which is the contraction of 'he is'; the conjugation of 'to be' in the third person.

So that's all for now, until I remember other mistakes. I just want to say that I'm not making fun of anyone or scolding anyone (I couldn't dare to) but I'm just helping. Some people don't have betas and even if they are embarrassed about their writing don't ask for one because they don't want to be judged. You don't have to be afraid, I mean, even the natives make those mistakes when they begin to write so it's alright.

Anyway, I hope this long as hell blog helped you and you can send me more mistakes and/or questions in the comments or just PM me I'll answer^^

Have a good day/night !

I got so sulky when I read those. It is not that I'm a native speaker nor my English is good, it is simply, !
And if I'm not mad, I'll be 'GLAD' to list down those tiny little mistakes to the author, hoping that he/she will take note of that and correct it. But then, what surprises me is that 'this' type of story gains tones of attention (or it is me that wondering or the fact that I'm too old to have a hold of what is happening?)
Anyway, it has been some times since someone come up with this topic. And yes, I agreed and thank you for the effort.

But you ignored the most important one. Capitol letters. I don't mind if your spelling isn't perfect so long you use capitol letters. It makes reading so much easier! And some words like I must be written by (? I am bad at these tiny words since in my native language there isn't any so I'm very used to just leave it out) capitol letter.

Notice difference
In the USA vs. in the usa
I see you vs. i see you
