park jinseo, formerly known as goo jinseo, oftenly appears in an intimidating way due to her aggressiveness and natural hostility. jinseo on the surface, is just a typical queen bee who is outspoken and ambitious, who gets what she wants. jinseo would not hide her ambition and when she sets her eyes on something, she makes sure she get it no matter what. since a very young age, jinseo is crowned with the diva vibe with her (over) confidence at doing absolutely anything. in addition, she never hesitates at showing (off) her talents and indeed, jinseo has been the queen bee since fourth grade. park jinseo was never the kind and nice girl to begin with. she does not kill with kindness, she kills with schemings and manipulations. park jinseo doesn't scare people away without a reason. all others know is that mess with jinseo and it's your head. jinseo surely established a reputation of a manipulative and even when she graduated from all those high school dramas, jinseo still uses her schemings pretty well in pursuing her career. it is crystal that you still need to use some harmless manipulations in order to mobilize and bring about her goal in society hierarchy.
another reason jinseo is intimidating and unpleasant to have is probably due to her defiance and sarcasm. don't expect to hear anything nice from jinseo's tongue and "praise" does not really exist in her dictionary unless you're someone she needs to (fake) flatter. it is indeed true she has the outstanding performance in many aspects to be defiant and look down upon basically everyone around her, but that just makes her even harder to withstand. plus, jinseo has a sarcastic and sharp tongue not many would want to deal with. sarcasm seems to be in her blood, and jinseo seldom speaks nicely to people other than her close friends. the reason is that jinseo is just inarticulate and is very protective of herself. she in insecure, and hence she could only use verbal means to distant herself from more intimate social relationships. she's constantly trying to keep a distance with irrelevant people as well as blocking people from entering her little world.
digging deeper, jinseo is less a and more a mature friend (unnie, actually-) around people she's close to and trusts upon. to begin with, jinseo is not a genius. she earned what she owns, ie. her outstanding performances both academically and in her career path. jinseo is a very diligent girl, and she wouldn't allow herself to have any shortcomings being picked on - she is this ambitious and determined. she is also the mature and calm one among her group of friends - she is the one who would walk through a hell of dramas and remain in her resting face. in another perspective, she's just someone who could suppress her emotions really well and is a reason-driven person. before she met seungjun, she had never once cried for any guy. jinseo is really good at holding back her emotions. as a corollary, jinseo has also developed into an inarticulate person. sure, she can be all eloquent and sociable in front of people, but when it comes to her own feelings, she often finds it hard to express what really lies underneath. she is scared and not trusting enough to open up easily, which, aforementioned, jinseo does not let people in easily. she exercises repression too much that she gets too used to it. ironically, she is the sensitive one about others' feelings. courtesy to her sensitivity, it is a piece of cake for jinseo to make good use of her intuition digging out others' weaknesses and secrets for her schemings. still, when her friends are upset or bothered by anything generally, jinseo is always the first one to sense it and, being the mature unnie, reassure them.
another irony about park jinseo would be how she secretly yearns for solitude when she is the overachiever who attends and pops up at all types of social events and galas. jinseo enjoys being alone, as she could think about whatever she wants and unmask her glamorous and perfect image, being just whoever she feels like being. she doesn't have to flatter people, nor does she have to deal with people who seriously need to cultivate themselves in a graceful way. this leads to another trait of her - reflective. jinseo does a lot of thinking when she's alone, it could be everything, ranging from acknowledging her - as well as others' - inborn darkness, to how to not be a petty-minded person. jinseo enjoys reflecting because she thinks that make her sophisticated. of course, jinseo does have the ability to reflect upon abstract and thorough topics.

born in a warm morning in spring 1990, jinseo is born as the second daughter of goo sungho and ahn heejin. with both being lawyers working in sungho's family law firm, jinseo and her elder sister, goo jinah, has been living in a well-provided way since birth. but a well-off family like the goo did not turn jinseo into a spoiled brat. goo jinah, is a more outperforming overachiever than jinseo is. jinseo has been living under jinah's shadow for most of her childhood, which crafts her into an aggressive and determined person who gets what she wants. intimidated by jinah's achievements, jinseo has also drifted apart from people, refusing to let people in easily. she's constantly trying to keep a distance between herself and others, so she won't get hurt. jinseo eventually developed her interest in psychology and criminology since being a fan of criminal minds and tons of books related to this field. sungho and heejin sent her to university of pennsylvania, majoring psychology. after further pursuing a double master degree in psychology and criminology in upenn, jinseo finally returned to seoul and got her job now thanks to her parents' connections.

when one first meet park seungjun, it's impossible to observe the intelligent and polished natural vibe of him. seungjun doesn't speak a lot, but he only speaks wise and insightful words. some may see him as shy, introverted, but he's just not very enthusiastic in showing his emotions and feelings. in addition, it does not take long to see his egoistic side - how he cares mostly for himself only as well as thinking too highly of himself. it is not surprising though, seungjun is born as the only child in a wealthy family so being self-centered seems to be an expected result.

"my sister would be there and i don't want to bring my friends, i need someone who would not be intimidated by her so i don't have to talk to her."

funny how they only knew each other's names (and realize they're from the same country) when seungjun introduced himself to jinseo's sister. "unnie, he's just a friend, and we'll be gracefully excused." later that night, seungjun insisted on knowing more about jinseo's family history, but he was polite enough not to offend jinseo anyway possible. in order to show seungjun her gratitude, she offered for a friendly dinner after getting his phone number through her friends' research of "a hot korean dude named park seungjun". they became friends, and was glad to know each other since it's not easy to live alone without anyone you feel familiar with in a foreign country.
frankly speaking, seungjun has always been surprised by jinseo - her captivating and deceitful appearance, her intelligence, and her manipulation, seungjun has never met a girl like that in his life; jinseo is so not a typical asian female. he is intrigued by the girl, obviously, seeing the way he looks at her. as for jinseo, she never intended to date the boy, so she was very comfortable of letting him know how she comes up with all the manipulation and plans just to get a spot to an exchange trip, or flattering the dean so she could do the freshmen speech.
maybe there was something more than friendship and they didn't recognise that immediately - it took a whole year of regular lunches and dinners, and "friendly" dates, and a surprise visit by jinseo's apparent "male friend" - for seungjun to realize his feelings for jinseo. the fact is that it was only jinseo's male cousin travelling around the world and stopping in philly, thinking he should pay her a visit. and seungjun panicked, what if jinseo dumps him for her future boyfriend? the thought of losing jinseo was unpleasant and he decided it was time to make things clear.
he took her to a late night walk the next day. they walked around the campus and talked about you know, everything, as usual. but jinseo knows seungjun isn't being himself and so she asked.

as jinseo turned her head, seungjun was also centimeters away from her. a strange and romantic tension aroused, and without further hesitation, they kissed. the idea of being with seungjun did occur in jinseo's mind, and not only once, she knew there is something more between them. they're special to each other, and they're not simply fellow koreans studying in usa - they actually understand each other, deeply. it's not commonplace to find a soulmate-like person, and neither of them wanted to let go just like that.
throughout the four years of dating, seungjun practically spoiled jinseo however possible. they would travel to new york over the weekend just to catch a fashion show jinseo has always desired; or he would sneak into her single dorm to make out with her with her favourite breakfast. they don't murmur sweet words to each other (except special occasions during nights) but they make sure to show affection with each other through endless pda. they had their problems though. seungjun, even after pursuing his master degree, would still leave one year earlier than jinseo (since she made it clear she's not going back without a master degree), and honestly, both of them had seen too many fail cases of long distance relationships. seungjun wanted to stay in usa, but his parents were not happy with this. both of them knew that what they had was real, and seungjun would not just be some kind of college ex, and they had a lot of arguments on this issue.
in seungjun's last year of pursuing his master degree, he finally proposed to jinseo, so that both could be assured of the unknown future.
they shared an apartment near upenn as they were studying their master degrees, and as jinseo thought it was just like any typical morning, seungjun woke her up with some keys.
