Cry Material KMusic - A Personal List (with links)

KMusic is abundance! There's everything for everyone, whether it’s from groups, or solo – kpop, ballad, or hiphop; this is a list of Korean songs that so sad in some aspect and cry material for me personally. This list is not numbered or ranked; it is completely placed randomly.

Now, some of you might not agree with me. Keep note that I am someone that’s been browsing through kmusic for only 2 years, and don’t know hangul. My judgement on how ‘cry material’ they are will be from how it sounds, music video, and the lyrics (at some occasion, because sometimes I didn’t read the meaning because I’m afraid it will ruin the mood I have for the song).

Okay enough chit-chat, let’s get down to the list !

Nell - The Day Before

A song that has inspired one of my stories, and played whenever I’m writing something angst. Nell’s voice is filled with sorrow as the music is slow and easy listening. Some people will call it boring if they didn’t know the lyrics, because this song maybe a bit monotone for them. However, for those who love some violins sound, I highly recommend it, because it’s what hits me when the violin reached the .

Watching the MV is also highly recommended, along with reading the lyrics. There’s a few theories, but as I see it, it’s about a pianist that’s lost his hearing, and his friend (some say boyfriend) that’s watching him through a video recorder but portrayed like they’re talking to each other.

I watch the MV 5 times, and I cried in that 5 times. I don’t want to spoil it, but the end is angsty af. Lost In Perspective is also sad, but I prefer this one.

Heize – Star

Of course I’m going to mention Heize. This Queen always manage to throb my heart. I love almost all her song, but what gets me crying is Star.

The composition is sad and slow tempo, but it’s like a story, with beginning, and end. There’s the middle part where Heize really hit my sad bone and make me really just release my tears.

The MV is giving me an impression of loneliness. Where Heize is out of nowhere alone and losing contact with this ‘Star’. This song is impeccable no matter if you watch the MV or not. I cried at this because Heize can make me feel lonely, and I felt it when the ‘Star’ fades away.

Block B - Toy

The instruments, the lyrics, the composition, the vocals, every elements, it all takes you slowly into the chorus, where it’s get dramatic and filled with emotions. It's an emotional song but still have those hiphop beats that makes me cry while bopping my head.

‘Girl use me while you can, I’m all yours’

‘All you need is me, I’m your toy’

Do I need to say anymore? This song has also inspired me at so many fanfics I’m writing. This song screams true romance angst for me. Even the rap part didn’t take the sadness from me.

LeeSSang feat. ALI – Ballerino

A song from 2007, and yes, I knew this song from Running man, LeeSSang is a hiphop group of Gil and Gary from Running man.

The MV started off very sweet, a cute ballerina, and a hopeless guy. They met and the guy really take care of the girl well, but then it takes turn into something dark. It maybe disturbing to some of you, but it’s not gore. A very aesthetic and meaningful MV and lyrics.

It’s very easy listening, very emotional rap, and absolutely beautiful chorus. Somehow, I can feel the desperation of wanting love, and doing anything to keep it.

April - April Story

It’s a barely new girl group, from the same entertainment as KARD. Though honestly their music is not my taste, but this one in particular, has sent goosebumps on my thigh (yes thigh). I was in a pinch, because I wanted to put one girl group song. This one is tide between Lovelyz – Destiny, and Gfriend – Rough, but I just really like this more, and cried harder at it.

A story like song, the lyrics has a lot of feelings, and vocals where it’s so dramatic and hits my heart. I never get tired of this song. As to why it makes me cry, because it made me feel pain. A story of two people from the opposite world where they can only wait and watch.

This song is entertaining to hear and dramatic, but really sad when you’re sensitive (like me) and read the lyrics.

Day6 – You Were Beautiful

Slow and steady at first, slowly the melody and vocals increased, then the chorus hits, then my tears poured. It’s a Kband(?) or maybe categorized in Krock? But it’s beautiful how they have such a calming sound and of course, just aesthetically ballad.

I must admit, that I didn’t see the lyrics here and have my interpretation, but the lyrics and video has hit me hard too.

I believe the MV is one out of a serial about the same two couple that broke up. This MV in particular is about the woman’s perspective where she look back at their memories together. Though it’s more like a peaceful type of reminiscing, but I got sad because of the music, and it made me remember my old days, my very bad old days.

Though Day6 have a lot of other bomb ballad songs, this one is my favorite because it hits me personally and critically

‘finish her’

N.Flying – Lonely

I know they’re a gazzilion KMusic that has a title called ‘Lonely’ and make the word repetitive, this song is no different, BUT, just like Day6 this one has hit me hard. You can hear the band essence, and it has a melody that I never really heard before.

It does sounds like it has more rap than the vocals. The sad vocals and the angry(?) sounded rap made me feel a certain desperation. Though till today I have not read the lyrics, but it has made me cry thousands of times.

Jung Joon Young feat. Suh Youngeun – Sympathy

Jung Joon Young’s voice has captivated me in every way possible. A deep husky voice that can go very high and in this song, has contain so many emotions in them. The key point of this song is the voice, those dramatic voice, and Suh Youngeun voice is nice too, but it did not give me the same impact as Joon Young’s voice.

I don’t know the lyrics of this song either, but the emotions on these two’s voice is enough to bring me into a world of sadness and guide my imaginations whenever I wrote a sad scene.

Sunwoo Jung-A X Jung Yong Hwa – Fireworks

It’s about two individual that deeply love each other in a very spiritual way, at least that’s how it sounded to me. A very aesthetic song, that’s easy on the ears and beautiful to listen to, smooth and beautiful vocals glides me into the world of deep feelings(?). Some may say it’s repetitive and monotone, but some may appreciate how beautiful this song will take you. It does have some peak, but maybe not as dramatic as they hoped.

Wearing headset is highly recommended, because you’ll hear how ethereal and exquisite the music really is.

As of why this made me cry, this song is a reminder to love myself (taken out of context again haha), and remind myself that I’m beautiful in my own way. I especially love the lyrics of this song, which I highly recommend reading it. It’s like poetry, and wish that someone would say those words you (maybe not, but I definitely do)

And that’s it! These are my favorites for now. I know I probably missed a few songs that has also made me shed tears. If you want, I’ll make a part 2!

Again, please take note that this is only my personal preference, and everyone has different taste! I hope this list of sad and emotional songs will inspire you in some way and/or make you cry.

Happy crying!

Emo Out.
