from the sunny and warm streets of sydney to the bustling busy streets of seoul to any street in the world that she's set her foot on, althea luna reid is an individual full of self-confidence and determination. born with a thirst for competition and a ticking time bomb of a temper, she as a person is a very difficult task to describe and explain. there are many contradictions to althea's personality, oh so many but character is a complex yet fragile entity that is as hard to explain as her personality.
althea luna reid, to say the least, is a good person. with no shame whatsoever, to a certain extent, she's able to befriend anyone she sees is good. she takes the initiative in terms of socializing and networking and that has been a well-known plus point for her. with a heart and soul that will never grow up, she remains evergreen and cheerful. keeping her head up high and her heart strong, she has proved to have her way with words. wisedom is a trait some might not expect althea to have, but yes, she considers herself wise. she tries to give out advice to others and gives out meaningful words to those who need it.
a mind full of thoughts, calculations, and imagination, althea uses her eyes to observe and try to deduct the object or person. using her mind, she can come to a conclusion of an analysis of some sort. that may be the reason why her colleagues or friends would tell her that she's full of sense and wit. she can read the atmosphere or other's expression to come up with countless possibilities to their behaviour. that is also why those who know her would rely on her as a friend, workmate or boss. because she understands without much asking and tries to offer them emotional support instead.
even if althea luna reid is said to be a good person, no good person is without their negative traits. no human is without fault. for althea, she truly embraces her impulsiveness that results in behaviour that she instantly regrets or decisions that she instantly reconsiders. althea has lived her whole life considering and yielding to others which leads to her growing need for spontaneous decisions that instantly turn to impulsive behaviour. this is mostly the reason why she needs someone to make limits for her, to convince her. she has no time for people who tell her to do whatever she wants. well, if she knew what she wanted to do, she wouldn't have to ask others, would she?
though she is described as cheerful, she considers herself a closed individual because she bottles up most of her inner concerns and fears. this was because she lived in a "big family" environment where she always needed to consider others and yield when needed to. she considers this a bad habit because it leads to her having tendencies to throw tantrums when she's no longer able to bottle her feelings up. that is why her family and former highschool friends (who saw her at her worst) are now fully aware why exactly should they not mess with her or push her too far. she is a ticking anger bomb with a thirst for competition.
tl;dr the friend you can always rely on to cheer you up who just knows what's on your mind and says just the right words at the right time. also the friend who is always so cheerful and bright that without her, it'd be quiet and less hype. at the same time, she's too busy listening to others that she never really took time to listen to herself and over time, those unlistened thoughts and feelings will explode like a bomb and you'll see a side of her you've never seen before.

BACKGROUND :
i. born in the beautiful city of sydney in australia, althea luna reid was born to an australian father, tristan argon reid and an indonesia-born korean mother, mariana winata lee. the origin of her first name was from her father, who had always wanted to name his children after mythology or astrology. her middle name, luna, was what her mother would have named her if she were to have a indonesian name. growing up, althea grew in a warm environment, happily and healthy. there was always this "big family" that surrounded her (the extended family of grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousin had secured the same housing area for years). she grew up to who she is now because she developed early social skills and learned moral and ethics early on.
ii. growing in the suburbs in northern sydney, he world of althea luna reid had lived was mostly focused on studies and family. she attended school and tried to understand. she graduated from a public high school in the nearby area and went to major in international relations at the university of sydney before graduating at the age of 22 with a degree as a bachelor of arts/bachelor of advanced studies (politics and international relations stream).
iii. upon graduation, she spent about a year without success in any of her job interviews. she spent that same year working at nearby coffee shop and truly investing in self-improvement (exercise, workouts, pilates). by the time she was 23, her mother pushed her to do a job interview for the company she works in, ericsson. she finally got through to work at ericsson as a part of the human resources department. she truly enjoyed her time there. when she was 26, it was announced that she would be temporarily transferred to the korean branch of ericsson for three years. they say she needed to try living in a different environment for a while so that when she returns, she brings back experience. the rest was history and it brings us to where she is now.

LIFESTYLE :
i. bound by a three-year work contract in korea, althea had been living on the 18th floor of "la belle" even before she got married. after daniel moved in with her post-marriage, she finds life a bit more exciting and colorful. she would wake up at 6am and eat breakfast (usually avocado toast or bacon and eggs) before taking half an hour to get ready. she wakes daniel up before she drives to work. every tuesday and thursday, she wakes up at 5am, changes into sportswear and goes for an hour run everyday (alternatively riding daniel's bike for an hour or workouts). after her morning run, she'd come home and get ready. and of course, she always wakes daniel up before going to work.
ii. althea and daniel have an agreement; althea pays rent, daniel does chores. but don't get her wrong, althea can clean well and like her mother, she can cook pasta or indonesian food (though she doesn't cook a lot because it takes too much time and she's too busy to have that leisure). in terms of food, it depends on them as who knows what daniel eats during the day and althea usually eats out with co-workers during lunch or at important office events. on the weekends, they usually cuddle up to netflix or variety shows and just have fun talking with each other over a cup of tea or go out for a movie or some coffee (if they were to have a "study" date). they also do these things where they spontaneously go out for walk together and enjoy the fresh air and each other's company.
iii. henry lau, a high school friend of althea's from canada who imigrated to sydney, had an idea. he wanted to create a space where others can relax or focus on their work and he contacted althea (the rest was history). long story short, althea now co-owns the coffee shop with studying space "staying up" (reference). so, other than work and exercising, althea also looks after the shop when she has time to. she would swing over to the shop and work there (or just watch korean dramas). the coffee shop is her main networking or socializing place so most of the time, she meets up with co-workers, clients, or friends there. sometimes, she and daniel spend some bonding there, too.

another married couple living on the 18th floor of "la belle", cha jiwon was the one who approached her in attempts to be friends (knocked on the door with a plate of choco pies in hand), which eventually succeeded because althea thought it'd be nice to have someone you're close to in the same apartment building and hey, jiwon didn't seem so bad either. yet, when she found out that cha eunwoo was jiwon's husband, althea bursted into laughter. the same cha eunwoo, the stranger who she met in the coffee shop, who she mistakenly bumped into and spilled her hot latte on his suit. jiwon doesn't believe eunwoo's side of the story and chooses to laugh it off. eventually, eunwoo will forgive and forget what althea did and the two married couples will frequently meet up and go on spontaneous yet exciting double dates, courtesy of jiwon and althea. honestly, the two wives make the most random and absurd combination ever and whenever they're together, all they do is laugh at each other's jokes, gossip and talk about life. jiwon absolutely adores althea. to jiwon, althea is a good friend and reliable eonni. to althea, jiwon is a lovely and energetic dongsaeng.

as daniel's pet cat, looney is somehow docile towards althea. looney is a pretty chill and lazy cat that daniel has been taking care of for about a year now. fortunately, althea likes any kind of animal and was actually excited to meet looney because she was never allowed to have pets in her house. looney keeps daniel company in the apartment whenever althea's not around (but stays away from disturbing their skinship). the funny thing is, sometimes, it seems like looney likes althea better than daniel because althea always fills up his food in the morning and because of that, he (yes, it's a he) is always curling up next to althea or following her wherever she goes (especially, when she's working on stuff on her laptop). to those out there with lazy minds and lack of sleep 24/7, looney is your spirit animal; when left alone, all he does is sleep and lie down and eat.

the multi-racial couple who are althea's parents, tristan and mariana make a vibrant combination. tristan the playful and easygoing father who never really had definite office hours always spent his time at home with the kids while mariana the committed and hardworking mother who always knew how to manage her time well carried on with her carrier in the office. as a stay-in-home dad and working mom combination, the parents of two knew how to joke around and how to match their humour with their kids. they rarely get angry or raise their voice (in the case that they do, that means things are gettiing serious) and this really built their children differently; althea learned how to develop and self-reflect on her own while lyra grew to be spoiled and self-centered. though the parents were surprised to hear of althea's marriage, they absolutely adore daniel because they've come to like him as their own son (they've never got to have a son and looking at daniel tugs their heart strings). as they are chill and accepting parents who loves althea, they're all in for the luluniel couple.

the coffee shop has many employees, from those in the kitchen to those who brew coffee and manage the counter but, specifically, the shop has four core baristas. due to this, they are what althea dub, "the coffee crew". henry lau, who is really committing himself to the shop, personally recruited the three other baristas. he met kwon hyuk and park jinyoung in the same barista certification class and when he opened the shop, he offered the two for a job there, which they accepted immediately. im changkyun, on the other hand, was recruited through a short interview. due to the free time he has, he spends his time after school at the shop. the four are core baristas because of their skills and so, they have fixed work days. hyuk and jinyoung works for the whole weekdays, having weekends off while henry and changkyun works on friday and the weekends. the four mean a lot to althea because they're just really great people to be around with and most importantly, share her love for caffeine. in other words, these four are her "mates" she's lucky enough to have in her life.

as the parents of her beau, who last year suddenly announced that he wanted to get married, the married couple has come into terms that although they still support him financially (by transferring pocket money every month), their little boy is a grown man now, more so, they grew very curious of the woman who their son was so keen on marrying. they also had their doubts when daniel told them she was older and also a foreigner. they got their answer when they first met althea at the coffee shop she co-owns. althea really impressed them with her independence and aura. their doubts disappeared and sincerely gave them their blessing. post-marriage, the kangs respect the two's privacy and encourage daniel to study harder so when he graduates, he can be as cool as althea. daniel's parents have always lived in busan and currently, the two have their own work to do so they can't really see daniel or althea that much and with that, rely heavily on video calls or text messages to stay informed.

wearing his heart on his sleeve, there is really nothing for kang daniel to hide as he is one that sticks to the rules and keeps himself from becoming arrogant. it is his humble heart and manners that really made most of his first impressions good ones. he never lets his greed or ego get in the way of production. he is mostly described as a dilligent dancer and a good example for others by his instructors, seeing as how daniel immediately helps other dancers who are making mistakes and giving advice to the younger dancers. he feels a boost of confidence in him as he sees those he taught receive good evaluations.
kang daniel is that type of person who men would want to become like him and women would love him whatever he does. he simply has too many charmful points in him; his crescent moon eyesmile, his positive energy, his physique, his laughter and his busan dialect (and honestly, so much more). he's just someone whose so friendly and easy to come to like. daniel carries himself with much ease, choosing to enjoy the here and now. in terms of human relationships, he takes commitment seriously and seeks friends that will stay together until the end (which proves to be difficult nowadays). he's a loyal person to those who know him and would very much appreciate it if others do the same to him.
in terms of having bad in him, deep down, daniel knows he has it. most people could never find bad in him because he's been trained and told to always do good in everything and do self-introspection if he ever did bad. living at his own pace, out of the practice halls, daniel could come off as lazy to others as he moves slowly at his own pace, while being a perfectionist at the same time. he is a lazy perfectionist with high standards for himself. it will always be an internal conflict for daniel, but he's fine with living with it. in addition to that, he is mostly quiet outside the practice halls or alone. if he is not surrounded by family of friends, his mouth tends to stay shut and rarely speaks up, knowing it is better to listen to others first than to mindlessly speak up.

BACKGROUND : born in the port city of busan, kang daniel is the only child of then two young people in love. he grew up being a lovable kind-hearted boy who was never afraid to be who he is. he had always been given the freedom of choice by his parents growing up and had his life fully decided by himself. growing up, daniel's parents were the typical corporate working parents and with that, had expected him to pursue business or economics. but they knew that daniel loved dancing and had enrolled him in lessons. eventually, daniel went to an arts high school and majored in modern dance. he also joined dance crews or communities that led him to becoming a part of music dramas in busan as the dancers or as a dancer in ballet performances. taking a leap of faith, daniel moved to seoul to pursue a dance major in college and hopefully, open up more opportunities for him to take part in more shows. fully focused on his art and earning money to eat and live, he'd always say he had no time to date so nobody really expected him to walk down the aisle so early, so fast.
i. previously living with his best friend ong sungwoo in the student dormitory), kang daniel now lives with his wife on the 18th floor of "la belle" apartment. having enrolled in college in 2015, daniel is currently a dance performance major at korea national university of arts. though he got used to waking up to sungwoo's sleepy face every day, he admits that he finds waking up to althea's morning wake-up more enjoyable. starting the day with kissing her good morning, seeing her walk off the door to work everyday, daniel usually heads off to campus at around seven thirty o'clock. he usually meets up with a few friends before heading to class (he mostly takes morning classes). he, out of habit, doesn't forget to text althea where he is and what he's doing.
ii. married life, for the young kang daniel, is great. althea's always been nice enough to give him his personal space, which he fills with going to the gym, practice overnight with some friends, going out with some friends (even sleeping over is fine by her), or taking part as a dance crew in musicals or annual school performances. daniel also works part-time at the coffee shop althea and henry own, taking up a monday-tuesday-wednesday shift (5 hours per day). occasionally, he has photoshoots on the weekends. at home, he does the household chores (cleaning dishes, laundry, vaccum cleaning, etc) as agreed. when he's freed from all those other activites, he just lays down with his stack of comics, some jelly snacks and the blankets up.

FIRST MEETING : althea and daniel have met once, before they even knew each other. it was the night of a musical henry's orchestra was participating in. althea vaguely remembers the content of the musical; she remembers it to be vibrant and youthful as all of the cast and producation team are below 30. after the musical ended, there was a certain ammount of time given to give out flower bouquets to the cast or production team or take pictures with the cast. in said musical, daniel was given several center positions in some dance sections and also, an impactful dance solo. thus, resulting in becoming one of althea's favorite aspects of the show that night and the night ended with althea taking a picture with him even before their whole story happened.
HISTORY :
i. althea first officially met daniel during his part-time shift that one faithful monday afternoon in mid-june 2015. from the moment she walked in the room, daniel's breath was taken away. call him cheesy, but he really did think that it was love at first sight. she looked at him and smiled, "you must be the new part-timer henry told me. daniel, is it?". he nodded and smiled while avoiding eye contact, "and may i take your order, miss?". althea ordered a hot long black and procceded to talk to hyuk whose brewing some coffee. for the whole time she was there, daniel kept stealing glances at her and when she went to pay and walked out of the door, daniel buged hyuk to give him her number. hyuk just sighed, "dude, just add her from the coffee shop chat room." that night, after returning to his shared room with sungwoo, daniel did add her kakao contadct and followed her on instagram (and instantly got followed back!), spending the next few days smiling as he scrolled through her social media.
ii. the two proceeded to be friendly in terms of during work. althea just has this side to her that makes being around her fun and daniel can feel it. she's unlike the usually strict, stiff and narrow-minded 'bosses' you'd see in korea. she's easygoing, interacts casually with her employees, and have helped henry create such good working conditions for their workforce. daniel admits that he's come to like althea for that side of her; the charismatic and independent side of her and through some casual conversations in kakaotalk (that althea initiates first, god bless her soul), the two have become very close to each other. to make a comparison, daniel is now as close to althea as much as henry is.
iii. in their now-close relationship, the two are honest enough to talk about anything; work, college, family issues, health. somehow, the two share a lot of slightly angsty conversations after work, when daniel is the last one to go home and althea accompanies him as she offers him a can of ice-cold beer. like most of the other employees and part-timers, althea makes sure to give them a pat on the back at the end of the day for their hardwork. for daniel, just that pat on the back could really motivate him. althea, at this point, sees daniel as a really vibrant and positive presence in her life. plus, he's adorable and squishy.
iv. daniel and althea started dating on 10 august 2015. daniel had invited althea to watch his school musical. he had come up with a plan and seeked the participation of the core baristas to help his plan come to life. the musical went well and daniel even got a dance solo near the of the plot. after the ending, the crew and althea immediately went to daniel, took some photos and handed a bouquet to him (as planned, the crew told althea to give it to daniel). smiling at her, daniel told her to wait for him as he still needs to take part in the aftershow briefing. althea nodded and the crew just stood there, being supportive mates. she waited for him to come out and when he did, in all his positive, eye-smiling self, he handed her a bouquet of food (which the coffee crew helped made !!) that had a sign written in english sticking out, "you're the little sweetness in my life, i gotta be your man. there ain't no other way". althea was so surprised that she was at a loss of words. of course, she said yes. she couldn't possibly turn him down, knowing that he's such a nice guy. meanwhile, the coffee crew is publicizing this on every social media account they have, being the supportive mates they are while being embarassingly loud.
v. they dated until may 2016 before they got engaged. how they got engaged is actually a funny story. it was friday night and daniel was drinking with some of his friends (note taken: ong sungwoo, yoon jisung, hwang minhyun). after drinking quite a lot and getting a bit drunk, he confessed in a slur to his friends that he wants to marry althea, which is responded by surprise and blessings. his ever-so supportive friends decided for him that he needed to propose right at that moment. ong sungwoo took daniel's phone and unlocked it with the password (it's his birthdate). sungwoo dialed althea and told her daniel was drunk and needed to be picked up. althea came and picked him up. on the way home, daniel looked at althea and told her, "noona, will you marry me?". althea smiled while driving, "i will" and daniel laughed, "i don't think i'm in my right mind". althea laughed too, "because you really aren't". fast forward to the next morning, daniel woke up to a pile of embarassment as he remembers what happened the night before. he opened his phone and saw althea's message. that is when he decided, "oh well, i love her and i'm gonna marry her".
vi. daniel and althea made a pact not to let marriage change who they really are. this comes from daniel's easygoing ways and althea's personal vision of life. althea is dfinitely against how korean married couples behave in their lives post-marriage. she wants things post-marriage to be casual and not demanding on either sides (she irks at how ist marriage can be in korea). the young, free-sirited daniel respects althea's visions and thoughts as he loves watching her talk about her personal visions so passionately. he loves that she carries herself with such high pride and has that confidence in herself. althea loves how he's obedient, considerate of others and how squishy he is.

WEDDING BELL :
i. marrying on september 3rd, 2016, althea and daniel had their marriage ceremony at the sydney royal botanical gardens with a special rule, "attendees have to wear sneakers or sports shoes" to break dress code formalities. althea paired up a playful white dress with a pair of white adidas stan smiths while daniel matched her white attired with a white suit of his own with a pair of white black nike court royales. the ceremony was attended by althea's friends and relatives (40% maternal, 60% paternal) and core members of daniel's family.
ii. about 400 people came to the wedding (some of her coffeeshop employees and of course, the core four baristas, attended !!) and to say the least, it was amazing.the atmosphere was great, the attendees were excited and fun. it was fun to watch althea's college and highschool friends gush over how cute or handsome daniel is. plus, they have alcohol (besides wine, if it counts) in the venue for the older relatives who just want to sit down and share drinks while talking with each other. not to mention, they made about four photo spots for the relatives who loves posing and taking photos. after a fierce competition, the person who caught her bouquet was her maternal grandmother.
INTERACTIONS : on a daily basis, daniel and althea do lots of skinship (hugs, hands over shoulders, hand-holding) and in public, you'd mostly see daniel placing his hand on her waist, same goes for althea. in terms of communication, the two share a lots of conversations with each other, be it from text or in person. the two can talk about anything and often, althea is the person daniel seeks comfort to when he's feeling down. they're comfortable enough around each other to do so and they're never awkward around each other. it's also an unwritten rule between the two that when one of them cries, the other has to give out a shoulder to cry on. their relationship is mostly built on trust so they learn to inform each other ahead of time so that the other doesn't get jealous. also, it is althea that mostly leads between the two and being the kind boy he is, daniel matches his pace and behaviour to althea's. the two combined make a cute couple who can make people laugh and make others envious because they are such couple goals (who create such cute couple photos together).
