Hi, I like talking about my stories #2

Part 2!

This is part 1, but I'm going to talk about different things in this blogpost. Still tho, I need a pick-me-up so I'm gonna talk about my own stories. Because I'm that conceited.

I really like my titles. I generally complain about titling and I think it's ridiculously hard, but when I just let my eyes gaze over my titles, there is just no way they could've been named anything else.

They can be quite hard to interpret at times and it can hard to see why I've chosen that title, but it makes sense. Seriously, it makes sense. ; - ;

A Cliché Family is honestly just one of those titles where I think "how can something so simple be so golden?" But I really think it is golden. There are so many things to say about families and stuff and I could've tried to create an elaborate title that showed love, but nothing would be able to summarize the story better than this. It was so spontaneous and so lazy of me, but it works. It might not be the most attractive title (and I definitely understand that) but there is no better title that allows me to include all kind of weird facets of family life. The only thing I need to focus on is family - and that is exactly what this story is doing.

Show Must Go On is a new story, but like ... it doesn't seem like it makes much sense, I actually kind of see that. But considering the content of the story and Jinki's mindset, that is kind of what it is anyway. It's the greed for success and keeping going even though things get kind of ed up. Very ed up. But still, despite it being simple (and an obvious rip-off lmao), there is no way I could've named it anything different. One-word titles wouldn't have worked with this and it rules out the romance-part that can be so obvious in some titles.

Starchildren is a title I really love. When I started writing the story it was untitled and saved on my computer as "mermaid au" - which would've made a really bad title. And the title doesn't exactly scream mermaids, but that's one of the best things about it. It's not at all telling the story except for the fact that I have created legends and myths about the Starchildren within the story. One would have to read the story, though, to get the connection. Either way, this title is just one I really love. I'm actually quite impressed I came up with it.

When One Year Pass is one of the titles I had a hard time finding. I kept trying to change it up in the beginning stages because the story doesn't really tell what happens "when one year pass" in a logical sense. It's a story I really like, though, and that's why I wanted to find a fitting title. The more I looked at the story, however, it made sense to call it When One Year Pass. The way the story has been created and told, constantly letting the characters grow by adding one year after another, showing children grow up, fits the story. And then the last paragraph is really fitting for the title, making it nail the two together. Honestly, it took me some time to figure out if it was grammatically "When One Year Passes" or "When One Year Pass" and I'm still not sure it's right but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Because Of You is inspired by Berry Good's song with the same title. When I wrote the story I imagined something entirely different as the title, to be honest. I knew Gwiboon was a complex character, very complex, and I thought the title was going to portray her anger and/or indicate that this is a demon!au. But it doesn't in the slighest. In fact, it sounds like the cheesiest of all love stories. It has a deeper meaning, though. Not only is it a love story but it's a story about letting go of old grudges and not judging everybody of the same group. While that may be a deeper concept that nobody has caught onto, it's still there. And Because Of You sort of proves that we're not alike, even if we think we know a group of people (or in this case, a group of demons).

Whispers of Gratitude is like the worst title ever because nobody whispers, lmao. It literally deals with mutism, meaning that at every point in this story, only one of the characters are speaking. Still, I really love the title of this oneshot because the gratitude is palpable in the story and since my characters are unable to speak out loud, a whisper is a softer spoken sound and as such also barely heard. Also - nature can whisper and that's a lovely image considering that fall leaves play a part in the story. But it is one of those titles that, when applied directly and logically to the story, doesn't seem to make much sense.

Ante Mortem means 'before death' and that is exactly why that story is named Ante Mortem. Not only is latin a beautiful language (and one I have used quite often for titles) but the meaning is also highly important to the story. Ante Mortem tells the story in the title, although it is also very hidden. Watching the title won't tell you what will happen before death or why death is such an important part of this story, but it is. It's actually the only story where I came up with the title first, I think. I created Ante Mortem as a trailer first and then developed the idea. It became a storyboard of bigger proportions I have ever seen - and the significance of the title is just so ... important. Ante Mortem is one of those titles I'm really fond of.

If Not Us, Who? is such a weird title. It's from that small poem "if not us, who? if not now, when?", the love-thing that's supposed to convince your one true love that you have to be together because it works so well. The "now", however, was irrelevant to the story and the title became a lot more ambiguous, really. It sounds angsty to me (or maybe that's because I know the content of the twoshot) but it could also be interpreted as a romantic title. It pulls off the story so scarily well that I'm actually kind of surprised. This is also one of my best titles, lmao.

Witchcraft is a result of laziness as well. Seriously though, 3/4 of my titles are just pure laziness. But when I tried to think of a better title, I just couldn't. I'm sure someone could've spun a more creative title and there are probably also people out there that would argue that Witchcraft doesn't really tell the story. It's hard to deny they're related, though, when the characters are witches. I think the reason I ended up with keeping Witchcraft as the title, however, is the fact that it not only refers to the witches but also relates to the process Kibum goes through throughout the story. But yeah, totally a result of me being lazy.

Ten Years is one of those stories that should've never been posted, lol. Anyway, the title refers to a timeline that seems relatively unimportant to the story but is revealed at the end. It's one of those minor things that could've been forgotten easily but it needs that impact because that way the story becomes colorful and -maybe- leaves an impact. Ten Years is the only title really suitable for this.

Âmes Soeurs is another lazy title. What do you do when you've used Latin too often and don't know what else to call your soulmate au? You translate the word 'soulmate' to French and name your fic that. And that is literally Âmes Soeurs. The only French I speak is 'bonjour' so it's not like I can confirm whether or not it's right, but ... that's the general idea of it. But it works because France actually does play a minor role in the story, especially for one of the characters. The more you look at the title, though, the more it fits the softness and elegance of the fic. And while Âmes Soeurs is a slow-burn monster, the French title just ing works. Who knew being lazy would be so worth it?

LoveGame (stylized as LoveGame, not Lovegame) is named after Lady GaGa's song with the same title, mainly because I listened to that while writing. It has a deeper meaning than that, though. Not only is Gwiboon fit for the song, the idea of a game to get is what inspired the story. The game people play when they flirt and the push and pull game in a relationship was the base for this fic. It's why the fic starts with a one night stand and only later develops into a lovestory. The idea behind Gwiboon being so good at the game that she has never really been in love was so intriguing and the idea of Jinki suddenly turning what was a game for into a game for love was inspiring. LoveGame fits this story even if it is a boring title. I acknowledge that it might be a bit unoriginal but there is no other title better for LoveGame. No.

lachrymose was created when I was searching the whole wide web (my vocabulary really) for long words. It was used because of the "tending to cause tears; mournful" defitinion and not the "given to shedding tears readily; tearful" definition. The title leads to think of a love story that is super angsty, though, and sometimes I wonder "why?" but the story has nothing to do with conventional romance and it doesn't really tend to cause tears. But that said, the characters do cry at times, probably quite often. Still, I'm so used to this story being lachrymose that I can't imagine it any differently rn.

Maybe if I Skip Dinner is my favorite of all my titles. Forget everything I've said so far. This is it. This is the best title I have ever created. Maybe if I Skip Dinner tells the story so perfectly without revealing the plot of it. It lets people know that this is a story dealing with eating disorders (or at least it very obviously hints at it) without making it a romantic title. It's a first person pov title, refering to the two main characters who are struggling with their eating disorders and ... look, the fact that it doesn't scream romance or obvious depression or "i-hate-my-body" in a classic and unoriginal way is what I love so much. It doesn't play on depression like other titles, it doesn't play on suicidal thoughts. It only expresses a deadly wish to lose weight - and honestly? How many of us has never once thought "oh, maybe if i just skip dinner"? It's a long title, obviously, but the best title. Fight me.

For The First Time was such a ridiculous title. Especially because I always think of first times as being romantic and this is just ridiculously fluffy Christmas decorating. Like there is no big confession, no first . None of all those classic "first times" and just a Christmas tree that's missing a star, lol. No way I'm changing it tho.

Mors Voluntaria is one of my first Latin titles. It's also ridiculously lazy because Mors Voluntaria means suicide. Considering the content of the story, I could definitely have been more creative but sometimes simple just gets it done and you don't need more. Technically speaking, it's kind of wrong because although there is a suicidal character, the oneshot focuses on a stranger's perspective and not very much on suicidal thoughts. At the same time, it is a very emotional piece, at least it was to write. There are many things between the lines in Mors Voluntaria.

The Art of Suicide is a total rip-off from Emilie Autumn, who's a gorgeous woman. The story is actually just that - suicides. It's written as a story although it's also written as 5 separate chapters, 5 separate suicides. But how else to title 5 suicides if not The Art of Suicide? Right.

Why Did I Fall in Love With You? is one of those titles I didn't even have to think about. It was there the minute I finished the oneshot and even though the oneshot it quite depressing, it showed a different side of Onkey that I really enjoyed. It was the doubt and the hurt and the constant question of "why me? why you? why us?" and it left something in me when I wrote it. Watching someone you break down and still loving them. The question of the title is also the question in the story and it hurts to be Kibum. I think it's a silent title, but at the same time, it speaks volumes.

Psycho is one of those titles I didn't think much of but that has just become so attached to the story it accompanies. It's not in any way original and there are plenty of stories out there that uses the word Psycho in one way or another. There is just no other title for this story. The focus on Jongin and his misbehavior truly proves a psycho. But the thing is, the title doesn't only refer to Jongin, it also refers to Taemin. There are so many layers in this very simple title that is so unoriginal. That's the beauty of it.

Zeri is also one of my favorite titles. First of all, it's Etruscan and that's pretty rare. We don't know a lot about it. Most important, though, is the meaning. Zeri means Free and if there is one thing that is important to the oneshot, it's freedom. Because of the misogynistic and homophobic setting, being free to do what you want to do suddenly becomes much more important. Junghee is free to choose, free to explore and free to do what she wants because she doesn't fall into the trap of the society she lives in and is forced under at times. She is a free woman and she's learning other's to be free as well. So yeah, Zeri is just a really meaningful title for this story and I love it a lot, despite being so simple.

Aviophobia was created because of a desire to write survivors of an airplane crash. How do you title that, however? I honestly didn't know what to call it when I finished it. Aviophobia is the phobia of airplanes, which is very fitting for the story and especially the main character but aside from this, the title doesn't tell much about the story. But maybe that is enough. To be afraid of airplanes in relation to this story makes so much sense and maybe that's why I went so simple.

Under The Sea is the most boring title of all. Like really? Why would I name it after a Disney soundtrack? I don't know. It was the only thing that popped in my mind while I wrote and it felt right. It's another merpeople au so it makes good sense that it is related to the sea and while I could've gone researching for days, I would probably have ended up with the same title. Because it really is under the sea and it leaves little enough so that people isn't super stuck on mermaids when they start reading. Otherwise they'd be disappointed.

Blank Wallpapers is a drafted story so far. I need to rewrite it. This story has a title that doesn't say much as well. It's a story with a much more serious topic than what the title tells and even though the title doesn't exactly scream fluff (at least it doesn't in my opinion) it really needs the story to fully accompany it. When one has the story, though, it all makes perfect sense that a story about female-on-male is titled Blank Wallpapers.

They Always Have Such Violent Fights... was actually a drabble I made into a oneshot. It doesn't tell enough about the relationship between Xiumin and Luhan, but it relays the important part - the violence and the fights. There are many things these two characters could change but the title creates a standstill that is just really important. And the violence.

You Win. is not really worthy of speaking of because I don't like the story. The title, including the dot, makes perfect sense, though. I really love how the title puts an end to everything. Game Over, you win. I love it.

Have I Crossed the Line? asks a question to which the answer is yes. But one wouldn't know before reading the story. I think it's a beauty with titles that are questions. Like you can ask a question and the reader will find the answer when reading the story. I don't know if it's effective (it probably isn't) but I think it gives a title a little oomph that I really enjoy. Again with the 1st person pov title. Those are golden.

Ways to say Goodbye is kind of misleading because there is only one way to say goodbye mentioned in the story. Taemin isn't trying to leave. It still projects the sadness of the oneshot, however, and I think it's powerful that there's a mention of goodbye in the title, tbh. There's no hiding that this is a sad story. The fact that Taemin doesn't really leave in the just makes it all the more powerful.

I'm really tired, though. So I should sleep. Seriously. So I'll stop here.

Honourable mentions go to in this place where i trapped myself. I love that title so much. Shame the oneshot is so short.

I love your titles
Literally since yours have some special connection to the story that reveals something or is a spoiler, and mine, well I just jumble words together and stick it on because I can't afford naming everything 'Untitled'
Âmes sœurs, when translated directly into french means soul sisters, by the way ^^
If I recall properly, Blank Wallpapers is the fic where Minho has a daughter and is haunted by the memories of his former wife/, right? I was looking forward to that, it's an interesting plot which slowky unfolds itself and is not too quick or slow <3
Your titles are unique in the sense that they are more than two words long (no seriously) so in a way it reveals something, but hides something as well
I love it. I am totally in love with your titles please teach me the art of naming your fanfics : D
