Hi, I like talking about my own stories

What the title says.

And I have decided to talk about my characters once again, more specifically their backgrounds because - you know, it's fun. Also I want to know how many of my characters that actually have a sob-story past, lmao. I don't think there are a lot of them, but one can never be sure, I guess and so I just want to ... see for real, man xD

This is all stories that have their own (so no drabbles because .. they're drabbles.)

Anyway, I'm just gonna run down my story list. xD

A Cliché Family

Jinki has quite a normal past. I gotta admit I didn't really think much of it because for me, he was always a man who grew up nicely with wonderful parents. There may have been some arguments on the gay-part but not to a degree that it would ruin his life. His mom was very apprehensive when he adopted Jonghyun and she firmly believes a child needs both a mother and a father, but she also understands that - well, Jinki is gay. Still, though. She wasn't very fond of Jinki adopting when he was single. She learned, though.

Kibum had more arguments on the gay-part but not to any abusive extend or anything. His parents were just kind of ... disappointed. And sad. Kibum's mother put huge emphasis on how she'd never get a daughter-in-law like all her friends and no grandchildren either because her gay son couldn't give her grandchildren (at least not biologically speaking if he was with men only). So she was kind of bummed. Other than that, Kibum didn't suffer much in his childhood and adulthood either, except for the usual confusion one has about ual identity and stuff like that.

LoveGame

Gwiboon, oh wonderful lovely Gwiboon. She had a normal past in terms of like family and friends and stuff. She was an outgoing, opinionated child (which at times caused troubles) and of course she had arguments with her parents when she became a teenager and was totally hooked on "what was in". Gwiboon followed the trend so much and her parents were sometimes like "Gwiboon, you can't change your wardrobe every fourth month" or "Will you stop wearing such heavy eye make-up?" and Gwiboon usually did her things anyway, except there were limits and she was a moody teenager, haha. Picture Gwiboon as a total emo in the most stereotypical way and you'll know what her parents also had to deal with. She has a nice relationship with her parents, though, and teenage-phases are just that. Her parents don't know how much she's sleeping around, though, they'd probably be really shocked to learn that their princess got laid, hahaha.

Jinki is my awkward little bean and I love him a lot. I see him as being a little distant emotionally from his family but not so much because of trauma, but more because of personality. He was that kid that loved playing with himself and he enjoys solitude as such. He didn't have many friends in kindergarten or elementary but he never really needed that either, he was just ... well, Jinki. His parents might have worried some but there was legit nothing wrong - Jinki just enjoyed being on his own. Then as he grew up he got a few more friends but his friendcircle stayed pretty tight but he finds it comfortable and doesn't necessarily wish to change it. He wasn't that talkative as a teenager and maybe preferred isolation so that he didn't end up disappointing his parents (even though he could never disappoint them, Jinki you stupid little fool) and he was just a little harsh on himself in that period as well.

Starchildren

Ohoy.

So humans first, I think.

Jinki was brought up as an only child (of course) and his past is happy for the most part. He had a tight relationship with his grandma who taught him all about the Starchildren myths and really got his interest hooked. His parents probably thought it was cute that the two bonded over something as silly as old myths but they let them. His grandma died when he was about 10 but Jinki's interests for the myths was born. He knew Junghee since childhood too, kindergarten I think, and she is his best friend - hands down. Like nobody will ever replace Junghee. She was there for him as a kid and also later when he got """bullied""" (teased really) with his intelligence and his odd interests in legends when he was 13 (because come on, at this point he should have totally put it behind him, no? at least he should've according to everybody else at his age). It was kind of shortlived, though, so no trauma or traumatic bullying incident here. Also - figuring out he's gay is kind of O___O to him but then he gets a boyfriend at the age of 15 and it's also kind of shortlived (4 months) and then they break up and Jinki is kind of sad.

Junghee has an older sister and seriously, Sodam is awesome~~~ They're totally close, always have been, even though of course siblings rivalry does happen, lmao. Her past is without her father as he died from cancer when she was like 3 - Junghee doesn't really have any memories of him but of course, she's curious too so she has been told stuff. Apart from that, though, living without a father didn't really affect her and they also didn't suffer much from the "divorced-mom" stigma either (because Junghee's mom is a widower, not a divorcee". I mean, sure they couldn't afford everything because people who only have one income usually can't afford that (unless that one income is like ridiculously high) but they didn't suffer. And really - Junghee and Sodam is just tightknit sister-best-friends. (That cliché stereotype about how a sister is your best friend is totally true in this !!)

Taemin is incomplete and it's kind of really important in the story so I won't say too much about that here. His childhood wasn't bad per se, not at all, but his incompleteness led to a feeling of sadness in his younger years that he had to learn how to suppress (which he did learn btw, not with help or anything but just by realizing that it was ridiculous to feel that way and as humans suppress because being vulnerable scares them. Taemin is no exception) He's not at all unpopular in school, he's got good friends, even if he's a little introverted but really, he doesn't have any problems there. He's not the most popular guy but he's not unpopular either so he just goes about what he must, it's great. He's in love with Junghee (understandably) and when they start dating, there's a little buzz (because school people gossips) but it's no big deal and nobody hates on them or anything. They can totally kiss and hold hands and nobody bats an eye, lmao. Cute Couple.

Merpeople

Kibum is sooo interesting as a merman. Anyway, his father left the hapori (which consists of mainly females) when he was a small thing and he was left with his mother. But because of Powers that he shared with his father, he was also always in contact with the man. Kind of. Kibum was raised pretty much like every other nohinohi (read: toddler) in the hapori, though and he quickly started playing with Minjung and the two of them grew up as siblings, even though they were different, lmao. Kibum's tail is really really simple with no engravings or patterns or anything. His flukes are 1 meter each tho, so his flukes is taller than him in total, haha. He makes for a beautiful merman, seriously, but his past is nothing to speak of.

Minjung is the daughter of the leader in the hapori so her standing is kind of better social. She's probably the one that's going to overtake the hapori when her mother dies so there's a little pressure there but it's not really something she feels in daily life - or maybe she ignores it, idk. She isn't really affected by that, though, and she prefers to spend time with Kibum anyway. She has never known her father and doesn't have the ability to contact him so he has always just been ... irrelevant. Minjung has a long tail (2 meters in length) and has pectoral fins that resemble that of a lionfish (except it's in her colors ofc). No patterns on her tail and her flukes are about 75 cm each, so they're obviously smaller than Kibum's.

Taeyeon is also feeling incomplete but again - like with Taemin, that is hush-hush for now. Taeyeon was born out of the hapori and her parents (and her) wandered the sea for the first few of her years. She doesn't remember it but she's been told that they were separated from her father when a bull shark attacked. Whether her father is dead or not is unknown to them. Anyway, her mother stumbled upon the hapori and they joined (because being a woman and a child in the ocean alone is dangerous, ok) and Taeyeon quickly become comfortable around the other's her age. She doesn't have a lot of close relationships, though, but that's personality - not childhood trauma.

Lachrymose

Jonghyun has a pretty average childhood. He's got his mother and his sister and they're loving and close but they're not rich nor poor. It's that kind of low-middle and his decision to strive for his dreams aren't particularly well-liked in the family but they're emotionally supportive nonetheless because they care about him and love him. What happened to his father, I'm not sure, but I don't think it was a lot of trauma. Jonghyun is very focused, though, and the time he has with Gwiboon is very celebrated because she's a lovely young woman. His family is also very supportive of Eunsook and they do their best to help when they can but they are also humans and they need to work too, so it's sort of a compromise.

Eunsook's childhood is ... kind of traumatizing.

Ante Mortem (may contain spoilers about their past...... whatever)

Oh boy.

Minjung is daughter of a well-known CEO and she's got that classical rich upbringing. She was mostly raised by nannies but her parents love her! Ok, her parents do love her, but they're also really really traditional and they kind of wished she had been a boy so he could overtake the family company because there's no way a girl can do business. This mindset leads to her father being emotionally and verbally abusive because he kind of blames Minjung for being a girl. This kind of , of course, and Minjung really doesn't have a close relationship with him. Her mother doesn't blame her as much, but still has the traditional mindset. Instead of listening to Minjung, though, it becomes sort of authoritative and Minjung's mother does a lot of planning blind dates in the hopes that Minjung will find an appropriate suitor. She's not late to voice her dislike for Minjung's boyfriend (and would honestly rather forget that her daughter has a boyfriend in the first place!) and she would never say that to her friends - like no way in hell is she admitting that her daughter (who was raised in the finest Choi family in the country) is dating a low-life commoner. Hell no. So Minjung is not really close to her parents and she wishes more often than not that she wasn't Choi Minjung because she's pretty tired of the rich lifestyle and does rebel in her own small ways, also did when she was a teenager. She doesn't have that close bond to any adult and would never seek out an adult's help. (That's stupid Minjung.)

Taemin is genderfluid and his family is not appreciative of that. But look, Taemin's family isn't all bad at such, they never hurt him physically and they love him. They just don't want to be "the odd ones out" and they're really cautious of their image because people ing gossip. Taemin's older brother is studying to become a vet and he's sort of like The Golden Child so Taemin often feels left out. He's feeling pretty inferior to his brother but it's mostly because of the way Taesun is praised. Taemin's childhood was actually okay until Jongin told him that she was trans and Taemin realized he was genderfluid. That - combined with his major - suddenly made it seem like he had to be hidden from sight and Taemin felt even more inferior. Taemin wasn't the kid with the best grades but he worked hard in school and did his best. Now, though, his parents do act like he's kind of less. them.

Jonghyun is my tiny fluffy professional hitman. He's a good kid. Jonghyun was kidnapped when he was 4 by a professional hitman and was raised to be his successor. Jonghyun doesn't remember anything from the first 4 years of his life and he doesn't know that he was kidnapped. Also - if he did, he wouldn't take much interest in his biological family. His "father" was a nice man, despite the whole "killing people" thing and Jonghyun never needed anything. They didn't live in a good neighborhood because although killing people doesn't make you poor, his "father" just seemed to prefer the area. There were better covers there as well. He raised Jonghyun well, though. Jonghyun didn't suffer much and he doesn't have a trauma. He was trained to kill (obviously, to be a successor he'd need to know how to do it) but his "father" also talked with him and made sure that Jonghyun felt safe in this criminal environment-ish. So it'd kind of paradoxical but his "father" wasn't a bad man in any way.

Kibum is Traumatized Past #1 lmao. Kibum lives in the scummist scum and was born by a e and raised in a brothel. That should say something already, haha. Look, the es were nice women, but the pimp wasn't exactly an A+ kind of human and Kibum was legit surrounded by and women-being-less and other scums (not saying all people who buy a e is a scum, but some is) so it was not a good place to be raised. Kibum is Bitter. His mother dies when he's 18 of a drug overdose and Kibum is actually kind of offered "be a e or I'll kick you out" - Kibum chooses the streets. So he wanders around on the streets for a while until he takes up pickpocketing more seriously (Kibum's teenageyears weren't exactly Glorious either) and he gets into shady business with a pawnbreaker and starts from there. Kibum would seriously rather just forget his past, it's kind of ty.

Witchcraft

Witchcraft hosts my first orphaned character, haha.

Kibum was left outside the orphanage as a newborn and taken in. He was adopted at the age of 7. The time at the orphanage is mostly something he doesn't remember because - seriously, how many people remember that much from that age? It wasn't a bad orphanage as such, no physical abuse, mostly just disinterest. Of course, as a newborn he was cared for the way newborns are supposed to be cared for, we're not inhuman here. He got a friend, Woohyun, whom he sort of later lost contact with and then got into contact with again - point is, Woohyun was a big part of the orphanage time. They were chummy buddies, A+ friendship. Then he was adopted and he gained a brother (because the family who adopted him had a son his age) and damn, if Minho and Kibum aren't tight brothers, I don't know who is. They are like ... twins or best friends or something. They do everything together. There's a competitive streak in their bond but damn, they would kill for one another. The time with his adoptive parents is really amazing, though and Kibum does not at all have any scarring memories from the orphanage. They get a younger brother, Taemin, but Kibum really does consider him blood-related to them all so he cares about Taemin just like the rest of the family. They're a good family, tbh.

Jinki was raised with caution, like serious caution. Any movement was watched but it was really just in fear of getting caught. His mother was killed when he was 9 but he remembers her quite well, and her death only brought father and son really close together. They don't live together anymore but Jinki writes him regularly and often - and his dad writes him too, so they keep in contact in the best way they can and they totally look out for each other. Jinki loves his father with all he has tbh, there's no bad feelings, no guilt, no blaming for his mother's death. His childhood, although cautious, was happy, though and Jinki has a lot of fond memories with his parents - even if his world was a dangerous place to live.

Maybe if I Skip Dinner

MIISD is cannon so their pasts are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For The First Time

Okay, but honestly, I never really thought of their pasts when I wrote this oneshot, I just wanted to write fluffy Christmas fluff. But I really can't imagine either of the two have a bad relationship to their parents or their siblings, so even despite being gay, I think their pasts are without serious trauma or anything of the sort. It's very just ... normal. (As in, you have arguments with your parents because who doesn't and you feel sad and happy but mostly, when you think back you can't find anything that was done wrong.)

Mors Voluntaria

I consider Jonghyun's past very normal, supportive family and a nice circle of friends. Nothing extraordinarily bad happening, maybe a broken arm or foot because of shenanigans as a teenager, but who doesn't do stupid when they're teenagers? It's part of life. His compassionate traits was probably nursed really really well as well and highly appreciated so that's why he's the person he is.

Kibum is kind of an enigma in the oneshot, but his suicide attempt wasn't caused by family trauma or living in a house that is abusive or anything of that sorts. It stems from extremely high expectations and a fear of disappointment and failure and he simply drives himself so hard that he isolates himself - and isolation is the worst thing ever. His parents can't reach him and he has no friends because he distances himself in fear of disappointing people and it all just ends up driving him absolutely crazy. His depression is really strong, but it isn't caused by external events in his life.

The Art of Suicide

This is also kind of cannon, so again - I never thought much about their pasts and none of their suicides are driven by traumas in the past.

Why Did I Fall in Love With You?

Another cannon-story. Again, past was irrelevant when writing this and I don't want to say much because I don't know them personally.

Âmes Soeurs

Ah, fun.

Kibum's parents don't understand the whole soulmate-thing he has going on. They love him a lot, but they also worry about him. Kibum's past is pretty normal. He was a social kid and he had dreams and aspirations like the people around him. He was good in school, studied well and had nice friends. He was a little flamboyant in middle school and his teenage years were characterized by trying to figure himself out. After he met Jinki he calmed down and started to feel himself and he became comfortable in who he is. There were a lot of doubt in earlier years, but it's mostly tied to finding one's identity and I think that's very normal. Kibum's relationship to his parents isn't super tight-knit but he loves his parents and feels sorry towards them at times too. It's kind of what I would categorize as a healthy relationship, he's an adult but he trusts his parents with things when important but he doesn't need them for everything. It's normal and good.

Jinki was born in Korea but shortly after his birth, his father got a job in Nimes, France and they moved there. I never really considered Jinki's father's job but it is probably business-related. Anyway, Jinki spent most of his childhood in France and - of course - speaks French fluently as well. He had French friends and wasn't that ostracized because he was practically raised in a mix of French and Korean culture and he spoke French without troubles as well (honestly, his Korean was worse than his French). His friends were nice and Jinki was pretty ing pissed when his dad got resigned back to Korea and he had to leave it all behind at the age of 15. But there was nothing to do, moving back to Seoul he did. This caused a lot of insecurities on his part because 1) his Korean was rusty and 2) he had a little bit of the French way of thinking as well because it had been all he'd lived with. I guess he was a little westernized compared to his peers? His English was better and he spoke French fluently so - obviously he was different. He got friends, though and although he quieted down - and still was mad at his parents for moving back - he did well in high school. Then he met Kibum and the rest is the story (kind of c:). Jinki treasures his parents a lot but also finds them silly a lot of the time. He cares a lot for them and he's always there, kind of like the son you wished you had, haha.

Minho's family life is pretty uneventful. He has an older brother and his parents and all is well. He was dating a little in his teenage years and he did stupid too, but he was also responsible and a nice young man. Minho was a good kid. He met Sooyoung when he was 17 and they fell in love. They were such a cute couple and it was Minho's first long relationship. He was really head over heels. It was not in anybody's plans, however, when she got pregnant when he was 20. She was 19. Anyway, not the plan. But they loved each other a lot and decided to keep the child after a few weeks of panic and emotions being all over the place. Minho's parents were not amused, tbh. They hadn't really expected their youngest son to tell them he was gonna be a father at the age of 20, like wtf. But he was and Minseok, Minho's older brother, was hella supportive. His parents eventually gave in and was supportive as well when they saw how responsible they both were. Minho and Sooyoung got married when she was 8 months pregnant and it was a small ceremony but it was exactly how they wanted it. Enter Yoojin and family life got a little hard and tensions rose between Minho and Sooyoung when sleep was little but they loved Yoojin and they loved each other and they overcame it all. When Yoojin was 4, Sooyoung ran away with her soulmate and Minho was pretty pissed until he got a call like "Sooyoung is in a critical condition after a car accident" and then his anger sort of turned into guilt. Anyway, after Sooyoung died, Minho needed help from his parents and Minseok as much as he could but he was still responsible, he loves Yoojin and his parents were happy to help him. Sooyoung's parents also helped out - because Minho has a good relationship to his in-laws as well.

Lee Taemin, born as Lee Taeyeon, does not have a very good relationship with his parents, on the other hand. Mostly because his parents weren't soulmates and that caused a lot of arguments. Taemin's parents loved both him and Taesun but the stress of living with someone you had long since stopped loving and with people destined for them elsewhere (that they weren't going to meet) caused a lot of tension in the household. It turned into emotional abuse, but it definitely wasn't because their parents were trying to be abusive towards their sons - they were just taking their frustration out in unhealthy ways. No domestic violence in the household, however! Also - because Taemin is born a girl and physically looks like a girl, the whole genderfluid-thing and "sometimes being a boy" was really not something his parents had the energy to really understand and so they just wrote it off as a weird period and hoped that he would get over it. He was chastized for wearing "boyish" clothes and calling him Taemin was out of the question. At least until he ran away from home - then it kind of sunk in that he was serious about it. The arguments never ceased, however, and Taemin isn't close to his parents at all. He's slowly trying to mend his relationship with Taesun because he doesn't want their past to affect what could be a good relationship with his brother - but it's taking time.

Jonghyun is - as usual - very attached to Sodam, they're just really close friends and siblings and he wouldn't know what to do without her. (I don't think I can write a Jonghyun that hates his sister, it's just ...) His mother is a strong and independent woman and therefore left her husband after a few cases of domestic violence. (I know it's hard to get out of, but in this case, Jonghyun's mother had a supportive background as well) Jonghyun's past is not necessarily something that affects him a lot unless he comes in contact with children who are victims of serious domestic abuse but he has a strong desire to help. He's social on a superficial level, but the deep talk is usually hidden until he can trust people - and he really does wait a long time to get to know people before he determines whether or not he can trust them. He's fiercely protective of his mother but I guess that's understandable. His mother is just happy he finally has a soulmate too and Sodam is thrilled that he's in a polyrelationship because , does Jonghyun deserve a lot of love.

Psycho

Finally, lmao.

Jongin has a wonderful childhood! This is important, ok! Yes, he's a psychopath, no, he doesn't have a traumatic past. His parents love him like they love his two older sisters and his sisters dote on him so much. He's the youngest and he's spoiled as the youngest. His parents do everything to support his hobbies (such as drawing) and tries to get him into normal stuff. They drag him to a psychologist as a child because they worry so much and they plan play-dates and celebrates in silence when he brings home friends. They don't even care about being gay because as long as Jongin is happy, that is all that matters - and he is an unusual child and it worries them a lot so happiness is totally valued over all else. Sure he has arguments with his sisters, but again, arguments happen in families. Point here is, Jongin has a great childhood and a wonderful family. Jongin's past is honestly worth envying.

Taemin has a pretty normal childhood. His parent's don't dote on him as much as Jongin's dote on him, but Taemin is not traumatized in any way. He's a normal kid with a normal family and it's characterized by normal ups and downs in family life with an underlying theme of love. Taemin gets into a bad circle of friends when he's 13 and that's what starts his shoplifting career, but even then, Taemin's family is doing everything they can to get him out of it. Taemin is not neglected in any way. He's just ... Taemin.

Zeri

Both Junghee and Minjung's pasts are filled with misogyny and tales of relationships made of dreams - and none of that is really true. Junghee is shamed for her desire to do things on her own and Minjung kind of stops listening to people which causes her some troubles as well when she's younger, haha. They're doing things the way they want to and they're not supported by the society. Still they go against everything because they're good beans.

I love them a lot, but I don't think I ever thought of their pasts in very deep matters. Other than their home environment being non-supportive, especially Junghee's.

I Was Going to Die Slowly

Jongdae

Jongdae doesn't have a bad home environment. When he was 10 he was bullied and ignored in school and no matter what he did, he never gained any .. uhm, not recognition, but he remained insignificant. His parents were definitely still supportive of him and they did their best to fix what happened at school by talking to the principal and stuff like that, but it just .. never really left him. So a good childhood and definitely a supportive home and supportive parents - just classmates and I guess that happens too.

Jongin

Jongin is Traumatized Past #2. He was ually abused by his father, so was his sister. His mother didn't do much to help either of her children, because she was terrified of the man as well. Fact is, nobody helped them and he continued to ually abuse both Jongin and his sisters. ual abuse is most of Jongin's childhood memories and it has scarred him a lot. Then he witnessed his father kill his sister and that is a trauma he will never ever get over. His father was never put in jail for the murder, because - well, his father would have probably killed the entire family if they had tried to get him prosecuted. Jongin suffers a lot from his past, though, and even when he's away from his father (as he now lives in the EXO dorm and such), his father still haunts him in his dreams.

Minseok

Minseok's childhood was characterized by nightmares, lots of nightmares and lots of night terrors. Sadly for him, they didn't go away as he grew up like the doctor said they would. His parents love him, but they don't know that he's still suffering from the nightmares and Minseok keeps quiet. His abusive relationship with Luhan affected him quite a lot and he considers the nightmares the least he has to deal with.

Luhan

Luhan watched his parents divorce after his father cheated on his mother, but other than the divorce, there was no real trauma in Luhan's past that could have caused him to become absurdly jealous. Luhan didn't see domestic abuse in his household and his parents loved him. They spent a lot of energy telling Luhan that he wasn't the reason they divorced and Luhan's father loves him as much as his mother loves him, really. Luhan's father is not a bad man in any way.

Chanyeol

The cause of Chanyeol's depression is unknown. His past is not one I think of being especially traumatizing either. There would have been arguments but nothing out of the ordinary. He did meet a lot of "just be happy" or "just do things that make you happy", also from his family when he first got depressed, but that is mostly just depression and mental disorder stigma and not because they were s.

Baekhyun

Oh, Baekhyun's parents worry a lot about him, but Baekhyun doesn't consider himself mentally ill - and honestly, if someone was to tell him, he would wave them off. Poor thing. His past, however, is not really worth mentioning either because it's normal too. There's not much to say about it, but now people around him are worried as .

I can't believe I always give Taemin the ty families. ;; But then, I also realized I don't have a lot of Traumatized Pasts and that's a good thing, tbh. I like good childhoods and pasts, they may not be as exciting but it makes it funnier to make characters when I can't just blame their traits on a ty thing in the past. XD

(Also, this is not all the stories I've written because I got tired, lmao. This blogpost is long enough. XD)

Wow it's 2 am in the morning and it, why not
After reading all of these background stories, I'm interested in your stories XD
Like in-depth interest, especially those with abusive families - I'm curious to how you plan everything
Also, I feel like the characters are a shadow of your own personality maybe?
Anyhow, background stories are always the best XD
*shuffles away to write my own list of crap aka background stories*

Yeeey ! Background stories ! :D
Thank you for writing this ❤ I always wonder how characters' lives were before the stories began (*-*) and I always want to know more about characters so... It's awesome ! :D

This is nice to know! Thanks. It adds more depth.
