Princess Anna ♔ Kang Seunghee ♔ Kangli

  kangli

Birthname. Kang Seunghee
Nicknames.

Kangli :: the online alias for when she started modelling for online shops
Seung-ill :: what her mom calls her affectionately whenever she's sick because Seunghee has one of the worst immune systems ever
Selca Queen/Selc-hee :: something the fans and members call her because she's mastered the art of the selfie (the second name is a mixture of her name and "selca")

Date of Birth. July 22, 1995
Birthplace. Busan, South Korea
Ethnicity. Korean
Language(s) Spoken.

Korean :: native; Seunghee speaks with a bit of a Busan-accent still, despite being a trainee for five years. She maintains it in an attempt to reconnect with her roots, yet she can speak in the standard Seoul dialect if she has to. It's just she feels more comfortable when speaking in dialect.

English :: decent enough; Seunghee's English isn't the best (admittably, she didn't pay attention in school as much as she should have) but it's not terrible either. She can probably hold a small conversation in English, but beyond ordering and asking for directions, Seunghee's lost.

Faceclaim. Apink's Namjoo
Backup. Ex-Kara's Youngji

Appearance. Standing at 170 cm and weighing 47 kg, Seunghee is quite pretty. With long slender legs and a small face, it's no wonder she started out as a model. Seunghee's skin is still a bit dark for Korean standards however, and she's become accustomed to using paler tones or brightening/whitening products ever since her model days, so it's hard to get her out of the habit. She has a bit of a complex there, with her wishing her skin was lighter, meaning she avoids the sun like the plague and makes sure to always cover up. Even when they have to perform outside for long periods of time, Seunghee will bring along a sweater or blanket in order to cover up her exposed skin right up until they get on stage.

Regardless, Seunghee is pretty comfortable with her body. Despite her darker skin tone (that isn't even too dark to begin with, it's just that Korean standards are kind of intense sometimes), Seunghee likes the way she looks. Her long legs might be her favourite asset, though sometimes it makes her torso look abnormally small. Better to have longer legs though (she always says), and slender ones too. They're not partciularly muscular, in fact, no part of Seunghee is very muscular in general, but they don't look like complete sticks. She maintains her figure through vigurous dieting though - as she's not one to exercise other than dancing. She's pretty much cut out all carbs in her diet, including rice and bread. She keeps noodles in there though, because they're pretty much her one true love.

In terms of her face, Seunghee looks a lot prettier on camera than in person. She's got a really photogenic smile, and somehow manages to always find the best angle to make herself look good, despite not looking into the camera. Seunghee likes to say she got it from her modelling experience, but honestly she's just got one of those faces. The ones that are beautiful on screen but then when you see them in real life you're just kind of, "Oh, you're pretty enough, I guess." She's heard it multiple times, in fact, when people meet her after seeing her on Instagram or something and having them be slightly disappointed. "You look different from your pictures," is something they often say, despite Seunghee not having drastically altered or filtered anything. It's just one of those things she's learned (learning) to deal with.

Style. High class, that's all Seunghee ever wears. Business casual is probably a better way to describe it, but Seunghee would never be caught dead in sweatpants and a t-shirt, even during practice. She's got fashion in her pocket, and can throw together the most put together and stylish outfit within seconds of waking up. It's almost like magic. Seunghee's closet is massive. She's got pretty much anything in there - except for comfortable clothes. Blazers, skirts, blouses, tight pants, skinny jeans - if it looks like it mildly hurts to sit in, Seunghee's got it. And it's not like she's immune to the discomfort, Seunghee just knows that beauty is pain and she's got a high pain tolerance.

As such, Seunghee probably always looks over dressed compared to others. She's never seen in anything less than semi-formal clothing, and the members are almost certain she doesn't own a single pair of sweatpants. The closest thing she has is maybe those stylish jogging pants that people wear to the gym in order to take pictures and not actually exercise. Regardless, you have to hand it to her. She kills what she wears, and maintains her model-like figure no matter what the stylists put her in. Even when they shoot dance practice videos, you can be assured that Seunghee looks like she could walk down the runway in her oufit.

It doesn't hinder her at all either, honestly, Seunghee would be the one to run after a thief in high heels and a pencil skirt. She's mastered the art of movement in tight dresses, and can handle wardrobe malfunctions like a queen. If it's anything to do with clothes and fashion - make up even - Seunghee's your girl. She didn't spend three years of her life stuck inside studios for nothing after all.

Personality Traits.
+ peppy, warm-hearted, optimistic, forgiving, motherly
– insecure, hesitant, naïve, soft, patsy

Personality.

Seunghee, despite her cold, model-like looks, is actually quite exciteable. She isn't cheerful or energetic to the point of always jumping around, but she's definitely on the peppier side. Always skipping around and hyping everyone else up, she acts as a more mature kind of vitamin. Always ready to cheer up whoever is closest to her, Seunghee often sets the mood without being too overbearing. While most would think of a vitamin as a hyperactive puppy, Seunghee helps improve the mood without jumping around and screaming at the top of her lungs. With a mere smile and encouraging comment, Seunghee often manages to soothe the atmosphere. She's very optimistic that way, always looking at the brighter side of life. Seunghee has had quite a journey despite only living for twenty odd years, but she doesn't let it bring her down. She's had her fair share of troubles, thoughts of giving up - in both idol life and life in general - have passed through her mind more often than she'd like to admit, but she tries not to let it get to her. She knows that she's always going to have to climb another hill, so she's just going to keep pushing through. She's not ignorant to the faults of life, in fact, she's stared straight into them on multiple occassions, it's just that Seunghee has seen some of the worst qualities of people and still chooses to believe that there's good in the world.

That's not to say that Seunghee always makes the wisest choices however. She, despite saying she isn't ignorant to evil, is quite naïve. She's easily manipulated, and very gullible for that matter. While Seunghee didn't fail any subjects and probably woulnd't be considered stupid, she isn't the brightest lightbulb. Easily fooled by tricks and pranks, Seunghee is the always the last one to catch onto a hidden camera or joke in general. She doesn't understand the darker implications of life, and despite her experience with it, it's as if she just hasn't learned her lesson. She constantly belives that people are good, but those with darker intentions take advantage of her easily. For example, Seunghee is one of the older contestants of the show, yet she doesn't act like it. She's very bad at being authoritative, and would probably die if she was ever appointed leader. She just doesn't have that commanding quality to her, so a lot of the younger members and people in general take advantage of that. From flocking to her to stop others from scolding them, Seunghee is often used as a safe space. She's soft like that, squishy to the point where she couldn't reprimend anyone even if she tried.

Which, honestly, isn't entirely a bad thing. Seunghee's motherly instict is just always running rampant, to the point where she finds she has to protect anyone she's taken under her wing. As one of the older contestants, Seunghee is definitely going to end up adopting a couple of the younger members. She's known to be quite adoring in that way, always fawning over her younger siblings and cousins, and is, despite her bad leadership skills, a good older sister. She's always willing to lend an ear, and has mastered the art of dealing with bratty children despite her soft appearance. It's kind of contradicting in a way, how Seunghee would rather die than lead a group but can calm down a classroom full of toddlers within seconds. At the end of the day though, you can always depend on Seunghee to take care of everyone else - both mentally and physically.

However, like mentioned before, Seunghee is soft - and not only to younger people. She's a patsy, meaning she just can't say no. She calls it selfless, but it's to the point where it hurts her. Seunghee could probably never make a consciously selfish action, and always ends up letting others walk over her. Even if she's dead tired and bleeding out, Seunghee would probably walk you home if you asked her too - despite being in the opposite direction on the far end of town. It's because she's too forgiving, always giving people second chances. Even if someone framed her for something, she'd treat them just as tenderly as before. Seunghee adamantly believes in change, she's a bit of a dreamer in a way, and can't hold grudges for her life. She'll take anyone back, no matter how many times they've hurt her, as long as they can convince her that they want to change and be a better person. And with how gullible Seunghee is, that isn't hard. That isn't hard at all.

Honestly though, it's all because Seunghee is incredibly insecure. It started out as a physical thing, being into the modelling world at such a young age almost automatically meant Seunghee was going to be looking at her body differently. Even as a kid, Seunghee was told that she wasn't thin enough, wasn't pretty enough in person, and so on. So her self-confidence slowly lowered. Now, she's gotten over her physical appearance, but her insecurity makes itself known where it really matters - in her mind. Seunghee doesn't think she's good enough to do anything really, and it's all because of her past. She has so many talents, so many oppurtunities to shine and fufill her dream, yet she's always been passed over. She's never good enough, and, instead, is aside into second place. Seunghee is, without a doubt in her mind, never a first priority. And this kind of mentality has ingrained itself into her mind, causing her to think lowly of herself. Of course she didn't make it onto the final lineup again, she isn't as pretty, as talented as the other trainees, why does it even surprise her anymore?

And so Seunghee waits. Her insecurity and past experiences make her hesitant to try anything. Heck, they even make her pause before speaking. Seunghee considers everything before doing, well, anything. Even putting on clothes in the morning, Seunghee will stop, think, and wonder if what she's doing is even right. While she was so bright and energetic to chase her dreams before, now Seunghee doesn't jump on the first chance to show herself off. She hesitates, not knowing if she should try, only to fail, once again. And again. And again.

Background.

Seunghee was the and only child to her parents, Taeil and Namjoo. When Seunghee has five years old, her parents divorced and Seunghee was left in the care of her mother, Namjoo. It was, surely, an odd situation. Not many people divorced in Korea, or in Asian culture for that matter. Family was one of the most important principles taught to anyone, so usually parents would stay together for their child. Taeil and Namjoo however, didn't have that mindset as they both believed that personal happiness and comfort should rule above all, so they split. It wasn't a terrible thing honestly, it was mutual and they both understood the consequences and agreed that they had been young and rushed into the marriage. Regardless, Seunghee didn't fully understand why she couldn't see her father as much anymore, but she accepted it nonetheless.

When Seunghee was seven, Namjoo married another man, Kihyun. Kihyun, a single father whose previous wife had unfortunately passed away, brought along his own child, a three year old boy named Sukjin. Sukjin, being just a baby at the time, didn't particularly care about the family circumstances, and grew up just fine. Seunghee however, being elder, wasn't too happy with this situation. She had grown used to it just being her and her mother, but now there were two other people she had to share Namjoo with. Bottom line is, Seunghee wasn't too happy about how things turned out. And then it got worse. For seunghee at least. When Seunghee was nine and Sukjin was five, Namjoo and Kihyun had a child together, a little baby girl by the name of Yejin. Now, more than before, Seunghee was pushed aside. She was a big girl now, Namjoo told her, and should take care of her younger siblings.

At first, like any rebellious child, Seunghee resented her little brother and sister. Hated them even. She would do anything she could to get away from them, as petty as that was, and it continued for around half a year before Seunghee finally calmed down. After mucking around, Seunghee finally came to the realization that it wasn't Yejin or Sukjin's fault she had to share her family now. They didn't ask for any of this, but they weren't old enough to be mad with her. So Seunghee accepted them. Instead of being angry with them, she decided to protect them. She wouldn't let them grow up angry like she did, instead, Seunghee proved to be the ideal older sibling. From listening to their problems and giving them advice to running around and playing airplane with them, Seunghee never grew to old to play with her younger siblings.

However, the discomfort with her new family situation remained. Though Seunghee forgave Yejin and Sukjin, she noticed that she was pushed to the side. As the oldest sister, Seunghee was often expected to take care of herself. Namjoo and Kihyun were too busy taking care of Sukjin and Yejin, so either Seunghee was helping out or told to make herself scarce. Often, Seunghee found herself wandering around Busan while her parents took care of the kids at home. Which is, interestingly enough, her passage way to fame. Kind of.

Because Seunghee was out of the house a lot, she managed to get casted for a modelling agency on the street. She was around twelve, just turning thirteen at the time, but the agent approached her and asked her to contact him. Bringing the card back to her parents, it sat unnoticed on the shelf for a couple of weeks before Yejin found it and told her parents that she would "love for Seunghee unnie to be a doll!" And that's how it started. Seunghee was, for obvious reasons, salty that it took Yejin's voice in order for her own wishes to be heard, but she thanked her sister nevertheless for making her parents notice the card.

Seunghee started out modelling for online shops. Showcasing children's clothes and accessories for various websites, Seunghee's modelling was never anything big. She was, as mentioned before, prettier on camera than in person, so she never did any runway gigs. Instead, Seunghee shot a lot for websites, and then as she grew older, the occasional magazine. It was here that Seunghee's insecurities began to grow. She was, obviously, reminded constantly of her physical flaws, but that wasn't all. Often, in modelling and any kind of entertainment business, the model that best fits the clothes or the concept gets to show off. And Seunghee was deeply affected by this. Despite not being the pretties tmodel, she was still taken aback when she was switched out.

It started as a little voice in the back of her head, a repeating line from one of her favourite movies, the Nightmare Before Christmas, but it soon became a summary of her life. "Always the bridesmaid, never the bride". While Seunghee didn't fully understand the implications of the quote back when she first watched the movie, it began to make more sense to her as she grew older.

Seunghee continued as a model even through school. In middle school she juggled the odd modelling gig along with homework and lessons. It was here then, that she took up dance. It started as a side comment from her manager, something about how ballet in particular would make her form and body lines more pretty, but Seunghee ended up really likng the concept and told her parents she wanted to start dance. Her parents agreed after her manager spoke to them, and though she didn't get to take ballet, Seunghee started in general dance lessons. And it helped. She grew more flexible, making her poses and lines more elegant and relaxed. Her body grew more toned, figure filling out as she grew older and continued in dance. Soon enough, Seunghee liked nothing more than dancing and modelling.

When she graduated middle school though, she was faced with a decision. She could continue high school with no other goal in mind or she could fully invest in modelling. It was a gamble for sure, Namjoo and Kihyun were strongly against it, but Seunghee seriously considered it. She liked it, despite the growng insecurity in her heart, and it the only thing that actually made her parents pay attention to her. However, Seunghee also enjoyed dance, and she knew that if she became a full-time model, she wouldn't have time for it anymore. In the end, her worries and concerns were once against solved by a casting call. Since the end of middle school, Seunghee had taken a break from modelling as to not be biased in her decision. It was then that a scout from SM picked her up and told her to become an idol.

Shocked by this new oppurtunity, Seunghee decided to go with it. It would combine two of her favourite things, dance and modelling (in a way), so to a younger Seunghee, it seemed like the best decision. So Seunghee set off to Seoul, living at the trainee dorms at SM and attending a nearby high school. There, since Seunghee was picked up merely for her looks, she began to train in vocal and rap. Seeing as she already had dance experience and seemed to be showing more promise in singing than rap (not like SM was too big on rapping anyways), Seunghee's training refocused onto those two categories. And so began Seunghee's long journey to continue to do what she loved.

   Interview

How do you feel about being chosen to represent your label on Princess?
Seunghee smiles at the camera, "I'm honoured. I'm kind of surprised they picked me honeslty," she pauses, looking down at the ground in thought, "but hopefully I'll do well." Seunghee bites her lip, thinking things through before opening to speak again. "I'm a bit worried, but anyone would considering it's the beginning of a journey."

Do you think you can win against the other girls?
"Win?" Seunghee repeats, though her mind automatically answers no without hesitation. "I mean," Seunghee her lips, not sure how to go about the question. "At the end of the day, I don't think the competition is what's really important. Exposure is ideal enough. And besides, we're going to be living together for a year, to always think of it as a competition is kind of tiring don't you think?"

What do you think your charm point is?
"I'm quite supportive," Seunghee says, smiling gently into the camera. "I mean, I'm not one to stand in the shadows," Seunghee continues, though her mind knows she's lying. She wouldn't stand in the shadows if she could help it, but she knows for sure the spotlight will move before she can show what she's got. "But I think I'll really shine behind the scenes. Even if I'm not the most talented singer, personality makes or breaks a person don't you think? And in that category, I think I'll be able to take care of everyone well enough."

Any weaknesses you're worried about?
"Oh," Seunghee starts quietly. "I, well, everyone has weaknesses. Obvisouly I have my negative qualities and faults, but I'm working on them. I'm not particularly worried about anything because that's who I am," Seunghee lies. "But if I do have to say one thing, I guess I'm not the best singer on the program."

Do you have any final words for the viewers?
"This is a show," Seunghee stares into the camera. "But it's also an experience for everyone, for me, for the other members, and for you, the viewers. I hope we'll all have a good time growing together and getting to know each other. It's a competition, but even then I'm sure we'll make memories. Please take care of me and Princess in the future!"

Trainee Years. 6 years
Trainee Life.

Seunghee started training her dance and vocal skills at SM. After being casted on the streets of Busan, Seunghee was taken to Seoul and placed in the trainee dorms at sixteen. Already one of the older trainees, Seunghee had to work hard to catch up to everyone else. Her dance was decent at best, seeing as she never really took it seriously, and her singing was untouched. Untrained, Seunghee's voice was immediately put under rigurous training under SM - but not as much as her dance. SM, always known for a performance company, really drilled Seunghee on dance. In the three years that she spent there, she improved in leaps and bounds.

She was mostly trained in hip hop, though she had some classes in popping and locking and urban dance. Regardless, Seunghee worked hard. It was different from her time as a model, but Seunghee tried her best anyways. However, things didn't get better. Passed over various times for SMrookies, Seunghee wasn't even considered for Red Velvet. By the time Yeri was added and Seunghee's time was almost up, SM considered just debuting her as a model since she already had experience there. When they went to talk to Seunghee about it however, she declined. In the short time she trained to become an idol, she fell in love with the idea of singing and dancing on stage. She didn't just want to be a stationary image on the screen anymore, Seunghee wanted to be a living, moving idol for others.

So Seunghee left SM and quickly resigned with Cube. It wasn't too hard for her to get in, seeing as she already had both training and pre-debut experience (though as a model), but she faced the same problems there as she had before. Not the best singer, it become more apparent here that her vocal skills were lacking. Her range wasn't very good, and though she had good stamina because of her dance training, it was still hard for her to sing and dance at same time - much less in the right tune. Regardless, Seunghee kept at it. She found the most lax atmosphere of Cube better than the rigorous training regiment at SM, but soon discovered that things are always darker than they seem. Around this time, talks of debuting CLC started. However, along with this, Seunghee overheard various rumours regarding Beast's and 4Minute's future. It was then, after listening to how the staff members talked about the two groups, that Seunghee realized she wasn't sure if she wanted to be an idol.

Though she wanted to sing and dance for people, the way they were treating the groups like objects disturbed her. Especially since 4minute's last comeback had apparently 'failed' and that the only good part of the group was HyunA, Seunghee decided that she didn't want to be a part of Cube anymore. However, she stuck through with it because of the upcoming talk of CLC. Once again though, Seunghee was taken off of the final lineup before they debuted. Though she had made it onto the considered lineup this time, Seunghee was, as always, put aside for someone else. With her wavering thoughts of idolhood and being pushed into second place once again, Seunghee left Cube after two years.

For the next six months, Seunghee wondered if being an idol was really right for her. Around this time, she lived with her aunt, Yoona, but never really grew close with her as Yoona was her step-dad's sister. She wandered around life, thinking about what she wanted to do in the future and coming up blank. Like any other teen, she couldn't envision herself anywhere. It was also around this time that Seunghee realized she didn't even know what university to apply to. Combined with that and the fact that her marks had suffered because of her training, Seunghee decided to give becoming an idol one more try. She was ready to forgive the industry (despite not even experiencing it in full) and chalked it up to one company making a bad move.

Though she decided to 'forgive' the industry, Seunghee decided to join a smaller company as she thought it would be less pressure and they would treat their trainees better. Deciding upon MBK, Seunghee almost fails the audition because of her vocals. She had stopped practicing after leaving Cube, and so her dance and vocal skills had suffered. However, she was reconsidered after the staff members looked at her previous training experience and modelling time. Entering MBK, Seunghee only trained there for a couple months before she was sent to Princess because most of the other female trainees had either left after not joining Dia or weren't up to standard.

During her time training at MBK, Seunghee didn't make much improvements. The only thing she could do was brush up on her skills and get back to the level she had been when she left Cube, meaning her vocals were still in bad shape. Even now, as she's promoting in the show, Seunghee's singing is not the best. Often, she ends up having to lip sync (the company's decision, but ultimately it leaves Seunghee feeling very relieved) what little lines she has. Often, the HR staff glaze it over by using Seunghee's proneness to getting sick, but people still wonder. Heck, even Seunghee wonders if she'll ever be good enough to become the first priority.

Last Words.  Hi again, it's me. I wanted to make another character for a while but my exams creeped up on me so I wasn't able to make one until now.

I just wanted to make a supportive bean because being an idol is hard and these young girls are going to need a motherly figure. But also life isn't sunshine and happiness so it's a motherly figure with a Twist™. Still, she's here to take care of y'all. Hopefully.

Scenes Requests.

– Seunghee helping the Fashion Terrorist™ of the group
– one of the members (or Seunghee) have a wardrobe malfunction and they handle it like no problem
– a hidden camera on Seunghee where she 100% falls for it or a hidden camera with Seunghee messing things up
– the members go into a haunted house and Seunghee falls to the floor unable to move because she's so scared

Password.  I'd like to think things will end happily with everyone being friends but that's probably not going to happen. Maybe only the Merida plotline will be remembered and everyone else will be dropped. Something dramatic probably.
