appearance — Mari stands at 167 cm and weighs at 50kg. She has medium length near dark brown Hair. She has a total of three ear piercings, two lobe piercings (one on each ear) and a helix on the right ear. She neither has an anorexic or chubby figure, Mari is considered to be rather slim.

Fashion/style —  Mari likes to dress practical. She wears whatever is the condition of the weather. Usually though you can see her wearing hoodies and leggings paired up with sneakers. The other members jockingly call her the fashion terrorist of the group since she has no idea about fashion.

personality —Same as any other girls out there, Mari is a cheerful-outgoing girl who is hardworking in all the things she does. her parents taught her not to be spoiled and if she really wants something she has to work hard for it. Whether it would be having good grades in school or something else. Mari has a driven personality, Since she wants to be involved in the entertainment industry she was taught to be open minded in all the criticisms she will receive and use those criticisms to motivate her to do better. She would like to describe herself as a deep kind of person.

This girl has a positive outlook in life, Mari can be seen as a deep kind of person and she doesnt believe in bad luck nor in good luck. If things doesnt go the way she wanted to, she analyzes first on what went wrong then she analyzes what did she do to make that happen; Before she makes a move to set things right.

She has negative side though. being impatient is one of them. She has trouble waiting for people, she dislikes it if someone asks her to meet them and she will be the one to arrive early. Mari doesnt like it when things are in a slow pace, she doesnt like beating around the bush. Mari wants things to be done immediately, Unless it was a sunbaenim or a staff member she tolerates it. Her impatience leads her to become anxious, which sometimes causes her to over think. She is also a bit selfish when it comes to her favourite food such as tteokbokki,kimbap,and jokbal, especially dumplings or any personal items of hers, like clothes or make-up (She says its because of hygeinic reasons). Though there are also times when she gets a bit aggressive whenever she plays games on her phone she likes to beat her high score, She is quite competitive. 

Her being competitive isnt really a bad thing, She just likes doing her best in everything she does. Mari doesnt like to do things half-baked. She doesnt want to show that she trained for nothing. Despite being all smiles and optimistic, She can get really insecure. She doesnt like to show it to others and burden them with her own personal problem. Mari sometimes like to lock herself in her room and cry it all out. To Mari the only person who is her true rival is herself.

On September 8, 1998 Cheon Mari was born in Texas,USA. Both her parents are full korean but it just so happens the two were in Texas during that time (because of a family affair). Her father is a teacher in an all boys high school whilst her mother is a simple housewife back in Korea. Mari's father moved back first to Korea since he has to go back to his job. Meanwhile Mari's mom started to work when she was a year old in America, she worked as a chef in a Diner whilst Mari is in her grandparent's home. Mari and her mom returned to Korea when she was about to turn five. The family then was reunited and stayed in a small home big enough for the three of them. Her mother decided to open a small diner as a family business for additional funds.

As a child Mari is fond of performing, at first she wanted to become an actress when she saw windstruck of Jeon Jihyun but she changed her mind when a performance of Kwon BoA was shown on tv. Ever since then BoA has become her favourite singer and made her want to become a singer someday.

Her parents were pretty much supportive in whatever she wanted to do in life. When Mari said she wanted to be a singer, her parents allowed her to attend singing lessons. She even wanted to learn ballet so she was allowed to attend ballet classes for 7 years.

By the time she was gonna enter highschool, she auditioned for sopa since she thinks she could have a shot in the entertainment industry by studying there. She did a modern dance routine which was unique, clean and filled with emotion and because of that she manged to enter SOPA. There she met people like her who dreams to be involved in the entertainment industry.

She first auditioned for different entertainment companies when she was 13 but she didnt got accepted at any entertainments. Mari decided to focus on her studies and further enhance her talent. Despite auditioning for an entertainment Industry, She was first streetcasted by SM entertainment. Mari was a bit taken a back since she was on her way to school when she was casted. She thought she was being scammed so she ran away from the streetcaster.

She auditioned again for several companies when she was fifteen, She got accepted in Fantagio and Pledis. She chose to train under Pledis since the offer the company gave was much better than the other one.

» Father,Cheon Jeong | 45 |Teacher| Caring,busy| Her father is usually working but they get to see each other more on weekends. He makes it up to her by spoiling her with gifts to which her mother sometimes disagree on.

» Mother, Yoon Seolhee | 43 | Shop owner | Loving, reasonable | she is closest to Mari since she is the one who looks after her the most. She was sad that her daughter had to move to live in a dorm whilst she trains. She frequently calls Mari to check up on how is she doing.

▪ Best Friend, Zhou Jieqiong | 18 | Trainee | Quirky,Optimistic | Mari and Pinky instantly clicked when Mari first joined Pledis, Pinky is known for her quirky and fun personality also for making friends. Not only they are co-trainees but they are also classmates in SOPA making their bond something like sisters. They were dormmates at first but Pinky had to move out because pledis was planning to debut another girlgroup besides Highlight named Pristin and Pinky was selected to be one of the members, it doesnt stop them from hanging out around the building.

▪ Friend, Kang Sohee | 19 | Student | Mother-like,smart | Despite being a trainee from another company (SM entertainment) It didnt stop her from making friends. In Sopa sm trainees are often deemed as snobby since they are coming from a big company. Mari doesnt believe that and she easily befriends the older girl. The two are quite good friends who hang out in school.

▪ Friend, Xu Minghao | 19 | Idol | Witty, Charming | They both officially met through Jungkook, There was a day where Jungkook met up with Minghao and Jungkook decided to bring MAri along since it was after classes. Mari recognized Minghao as he was her sunbaenim in Pledis also they  were part of the same dance class in pledis before Minghao debuted in Seventeen. Now after that meeting Minghao has become Mari's close friend and sunbaenim in Seventeen. 

▪ Rival, Park Siyeon | 17 | Trainee | Snobby,Tempermental | Everyone thinks she is an angel but she is actually two-faced. Siyeon acts like an angel if she wants something and a brat if she got a bad temper. Siyeon thinks she is better than Mari and even asked if she can go to produce 101 instead of Mari. Mari doesnt want to stoop down to Siyeon's level and simply ignores the younger girl's antics. It was actually the other trainees who started this rivalry (they started comparing the two on who is better), It all started when their evaluation scores are tied and Siyeon couldnt accept the fact that someone is actually tied to her (she is used to ranking 1st)

trainee years — 3 years

trainee life — 
She trained everyday after school and even during weekends. At first it was hard since training is harder than she thought it would be but eventually she got used to it. She had to live in a dorm with other trainees therefore making her live separately with her parents. She loves food but she had to give it up when they were told to follow a strict diet.

Whilst staying in Pledis she trained hard in Singing, It gave her sore throat experiences that she even almost had to go to the hospital because of it. Mari had singing lessons as a kid but she focused more on ballet.

She trained more for dancing despite not being a lead or main dancer material at first, It was because the entertainment said she has to learn more than one kind of dance. She needs to be versatile if she wanted to debut. Mari had a bit of trouble learning different styles of dance at first but now the girl can easily pick up a beat and dance to any kind of genre given to her.
