Minho's Movie Derailed {spoilers}

So... I watched Minho's movie Derailed. It took me 3 days to watch it, because it was during finals week, but I finished it nonetheless.

Thoughts?

The acting was great, but I've seen better plotlines.

Man, the storyline was so subpar.

First off, there was no character build up. I was hoping that I would get some back story as to why these teens were on the street. All I know is that Minho's father died, he went to juvie, and at some point he ran away from his uncle's house. And his girlfriend's mother disowned her. There also wasn't any strong moments between Minho and his love interest. It didn't seem like she cared about him that much until he died. I'm not sure if it was her character and her rough past or her acting but throughout the whole movie she only has two facial expressions (-_- )  ( T_T)

It was really hard to get into the movie because of the poor connection between Minho and his love interest, the poor story development, and the way all the drama started. When I woman gets mad at her boyfriend for not letting her sell her body so they can't go to a spa, it's kinda hard to like that character. And she actually does it!! If this girl decided to get a job or do some kind of webcam thing instead, none of this would have happened. And using a hooker-cover as a trick is not the best way to make money.

I feel like the story would have made more sense if the girl was kidnapped by the dude with the karaoke bar because they tried to sell him a stolen product. The fact that she decided to sell her body on her own irritates me. And the fact that Minho does all of that because of a situation she created is so painful to watch. Painfully annoying... Like I know you need money and ion is a quick way, but that isn't something you try to scam people out of.

Minho's acting was pretty good though. I didn't care for the one-sided love story fueling the movie, but Minho played the part pretty well. Although, I feel like most of the movie was him getting beat up which was hard to watch. I'm not one who loves excess violence. It was refreshing in a way to see him in such a grueling role. His character was a criminal with a bad past but he still cared about friends. But I can't get past how Minho was trying his best to get his girlfriend out and she was monotoned until the end.

And the ending!! He dies?? Ugh, I hate movies like this. When an important character dies and suddenly everything that happened is pointless. And everyone watched Minho push himself and the guy off the balcony!! Why didn't anyone try to stop him? Why are the police so incompetent?

I have so many questions!!

Minho, you're acting was great, but the movie just seemed pointless. If the beginning had more purpose, the rest of the movie would've made more sense.

Minho came such a long way from TTBY. His acting now is so polished. I love seeing him smoking, curse, and beating people up. It's such an extreme from his usual flower boy image and charismatic personality :)
