BTS Spring Day Theories (Jin is alive!)

BTS SPring Day

theories and other comments

So I don't usually do this, but I noticed some themes and I've read about it and it is worth being talked about. The music video is said to be based on the story "Those Who Walk From Omelas" something clear enough since it's the name of the place they are in the MV. The MV presents theme of loneliness, friendship, solidarity, cycle, escaping the cycle, suffering and more. In the short story, the city called Omelas is idyllic and everyone lives in perfect happiness. Growing up, they realize that this happiness is based on the suffering and misery of one child. While some adults revolt at first, they all come to accept it because of how they want to be happy. BTS is basically saying they would not react the same way as the adults in the story and that they are there for each other.

I think one at a time, each member of BTS represents the child. It is unclear whether they are all depiction of the same character, different characters in the same role or different people who all feel like the child. The first one is V, at the rail. I believe is is bending down to be able to hear the train coming, signifying he might be looking and ready for change. Then the child is RapMonster, notice how he is surrounded by luggage but is seen alone I will come back to that, until he passes the role to Jungkook. The train and lyrics refer to the movie Snowpiercer, an American-Korean movie with a Korean director. In the movie the people are on an eternal train that goes around the world. This is the first mention of the cycle theme. According to the imagery, Jungkook is alone on a train that never stops during unending winter. for a moment we are brought to Omelas, the seemingly idyllic place where everybody is happy. The ways the rooms all seem to be opening on one another is a further representation of the Snowpiercer in which rooms are aligned on the train and open up on one another.

There are again signs of cycle with the stairs and Jin is in the middle, he doesn't join the rest of the members and stays trap in the cycle. There is again the cycle when the members are seen doing normal things together and smiling but V isn't happy and does the symbol with his fingers that might represent how he feels trapped. there is probably a link with the way photographers will frame with their fingers before taking a picture. The way their expression is so neutral make me believe that rather than taking apictures themselves, they are being framed so it's their picture that will be taken. Probably, as I said, as a mean to express confinement. Again, through this image, V is in the middle of a circle of sort, represented by his sleeping friends who are unaware that he isn't happy.

Jungkook is seen in front of a circle of swings exactly in front of the center pole, making me believe he is representing the center pole around which swigs turn. Jin sees the clothes tumbling in the laundromat and suddenly feels as if he is in the machine himself tumbling and trapped inside a circle. Then Suga is seen in a pile of laundry. I have read it might refer to baggage, which would be logical given that RapMonster was surrounded with luggage in the first shot we see him. The child is alone, in a cycle he cannot escape with a literal mountain of baggage. The next shots represent the desire to escape and run away from the cycle they are trapped in. J-Hope's paper plane meaning he wants to fly away and be free. The swings behind Jungkook light up and he suddenly seem to notice where he is, just like Jin a few shots earlier, it seems they were unaware of the circle they were in. The members are seen around Jungkook running and having fun and Jungkook leaves the middle of the circle to join his friends as J-Hope's paper plane is finally set soaring. The child then switches from Jin to Jungkook as he realizes he is alone on the train and look for people through the room. The child was always alone but only now realizes how much. He is joined by his friends. Jungkook finally sees the train in front of him and it stops signifying confinement and start signifying change and adventure on a new journey. Each member successfully realize they are not alone and all the members are seen at the top of the mountain of clothes, indicating they may have conquered their baggage together. The train finally stops and the members leave, finally out of the cycle for good. Jungkook outside the circle of swings is finally warm under the sun. They reach a place where the snow has melted and they are finally in Spring, a season typically associated with revival, youth, new beginnings, return of sunlight and bloom.

Another possible explanation is that neither or them represent the child in the shortstory, but they all refuse to live in a place that would allow cruelty. They all leave and with no one left to shoulder the pain of everyone, they all feel unhappy until the remember that they realize that they are all together in the journey. Hence why you never walk alone.

I have heard theories about how Jin is dead and I don't think that's true. The shoes that Jimin is holding in his hand are probably not anyone's shoes, they are probably the child metaphorical shoes. They appear to be the same as his, but white. Besides, all of BTS seem to be wearing black shoes. Throwing them on a wire or tree signifies that one has moved on to a better place, doesn't mean it's death. Although it could mean the death and release of their child persona. In this context, I think there is a double meaning because they do not need their shoes anymore as they are done traveling and are finally where they wanted to go.

Another possible explanation for them leaving the shoe might be because they are leaving them for someone else to come walk with them, perhaps their fans or the viewers, indicating they do not have to walk alone either.

Lastly, in the comment section of another theory video, I have seen someone mention the Sewol ferry incident. Jimin is seen wearing stripes like a sailor and standing near the sea when he finds the shoes. The shoes could be a sign of remembrance for everyone who died in that incident.

Note — I've always liked analyzing things. This might be the first of a series or something. Comment down below what you thing all this MV means :)
After writing Child so much, it starts to look funny.

Through the MV, BTS claims that they would give up happiness to ensure none of them is suffering, effectively describing a strong bond and connection that is ready to shoulder all the pain together.
