Hi, Water God Readers!

We're nearing the (ahem) of the story now, and I won't be explaining what's going on with Jaejoong and Bayeol any more after the next chapter. Some of you seem to understand their relationship, but I can tell from the comments that some of you are still unsure of how Jaejoong and Bayeol fit together. I know that it's very complicated, so here's a quick overview to help you understand.

In the old days, in the land of the gods, there was 

  Yunho

and  

   Bayeol

And they fell deeply in love. But mountain god Toukabi wanted Bayeol for himself. So he kidnapped Bayeol and kept him captive in his underground realm. When Yunho learned about it, he and the other young gods went to rescue him. They fought the old gods and won. Toukabi promised to return Bayeol to Yunho the next day, but he didn't. In some mysterious way, he stole Bayeol's immortality and trapped him in the body of a young man.

Yunho tried to find Toukabi, so they could make Bayeol immortal again. Or get revenge, if that wasn't possible. The young man died while Yunho was gone, and Bayeol's spirit should have moved on to the next plane--but it didn't. Through some "trick," Toukabi trapped his spirit in another mortal vessel. In fact, he trapped Bayeol in a large number of vessels throughout the centuries.

Normally, there's two people inside a vessel when a god inhabits it, like when Toukabi is inside Dr. Todd. They take turns in the "driver's seat." Sometimes Toukabi is in charge and controls what Dr. Todd does and sometimes Dr. Todd is free to act on his own while Toukabi is gone. That's why Yunho was so convinced that Jae and Bayeol had to be different people: that's just how it works. It's like possession.

But somehow (we don't know how yet) Toukabi's dark trick put Bayeol into vessels by himself, without another soul. But Toukabi had trouble controlling him--Bayeol's spirit is still a god's spirit, and he kept breaking free. He'd try to return to Yunho and get help. Finally, Toukabi had to start putting part of Bayeol to sleep. His memories, his knowledge of who he is, his "light"...all of that was buried deep inside him. But Toukabi couldn't put him entirely to sleep because someone had to be in the driver's seat, keeping the vessel functioning. And that awake part is 

Jaejoong, The Rock Star.

That's what Toukabi and Yunho meant when they said Jae and Bay were "the same." They are one spirit. One person. But part of that person is asleep.

Jaejoong is the one who grows up in each vessel and has all the experiences. He's the one who lives life and makes all the decisions. The "Bayeol" part of him, the memories and the power, isn't aware of the day to day stuff. Bay only has a vague idea of what's going on. And he only has THAT much awareness because he sometimes defies Toukabi and breaks free or because the old toad misses him and lets him out so he can see his "light" for a moment.

Toukabi is in love with that godly side of Jaejoong--ironically, because he's the one who destroyed it. That's why he has no interest in Jaejoong's mortal vessels. They're just a useful container to the old god. He wants the spirit inside them. The whole spirit. (But we'll learn more about that soon.) 

Every time Toukabi moves Jaejoong's spirit to another vessel, memories of the previous life get locked up in the Bayeol part of him. The "hallucinations" that Jaejoong experiences are times when memories are trying to get free. Jaejoong gets flashbacks to his earlier lives, especially his life as a god. But even though they are familiar to Jae, not enough memory is getting through for him to really remember who he is.

But now Yunho has unlocked the door and it's all coming out. So to answer the question of "what will happen to Jae now that Bayeol is back?", the answer is: he'll remember everything. He's not going anywhere. I think a better question is "what's going to happen to Jae now that he once again knows he's an immortal spirit trapped in a mortal body?".  And you'll have to read the rest of the story to learn that. ^^
