Kdrama Recommendation: I Remember You

Edited: This blog is a mess. Hahaha. Oh my god. I wrote this at work and there were a lot of thought noise, and just regular noise... so hahaha. Oh god... this is a mess.

I have been really itching to review Cheese in the Trap for a while, but as I was writing the intro, my sould has been nagging me about my 2015 true k-drama love I Remember You. I am not the biggest fan of kdramas... it would seem that I watch a lot of 'em just to get disappointed. Side eyes: Mask, Kill me, Heal me, High School King of Savvy, Doctor Stranger, She was Pretty, Bad Guys... and the list goes longer and longer and longer...

But one night, or morning, or something... I randomly started I remember you... I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting, but I almost immediately, I fell head over heels for this drama (and Seo In Guk, hek,hek,hek). As I have said, I am hardly a kdrama-fan (though I really do insist watching them and being critical then getting mad here and there and everyinwhere) but I am really not that hard to please if you knew all my buttons and when to push them. I am always interested in a good dose of mental illness, but of course, treating the issue with the right sensitivity and sensibility. This is probably why I was so engaged with Kill me, Heal me and why I was consequently disappointed at the ending that didn't really treat the personalities quite how I would have liked it.... Not spoiling anything for anyone who hasn't seen this. I would still recommend this if only to see Ji Sung say "if you're cute then your my oppa."

*clears throat* But going back to the delicious treat of I remember you that tackles the enigmatic issue of sociopathy. This is like my kink. I find sociopathy as one of the most interesting topics fiction can tackle. I have somewhat of misplaced sympathy for sociopaths... you know, because they were fixed to be bad... they are almost bowed down by destiny to be outcasts. And this show goes on and discusses the issue about and around sociopathy... of course, expect more heart in this than gore. Seo In Guk pretty much delivers impressive deductions, but really the philosophy of nurture vs nature here is pretty much my shiny tooth comb and I run it down my hair singing why do birds flyyyyy...

What you might like:

1. Subtle but superior acting.

Seo In Guk caught my eye in Master's Sun. I wasn't too impressed with his character or acting. I honestly thought he wasn't the convetional cutey-patootie Korean dramas always display. He has distinct features however, and when I saw him in this, it clicked. I am not good with faces or names but Seo In Guk... well, I guess when it's true love, it's an exception. (/gets smacked by TOP in the head. /boy-chasin' because you be neglectin'). But In Guk's looks aside (that has massively grown on me like a malignant tumour), this show made me a fan of In Guk as an actor because his character Lee Hyun was mostly low-key but In Guk delivered a fully fleshed, highly engaging character... and while other actors' tend to suffer from dead-face syndrome when portraying the "strong silent type", In Guk just blows you (or more accurately, me) away with his quiet intensity, his pregnant pauses and his charming, sporadic smiles. I loved him. I loved him. I am in love. (/earns another smack from TOP. I am sorry! You are forever my princess. Do not be like that!)

D.O and Choi Won Young. Can I just say that I am not an EXO fan, and I've seen DO in a few dramas but I wasn't really moved or anything. But I liked him here. He is quietly vicious... and I don't know. I liked that he was creapy and at the same time darkly attractive. His character Lee Joon Young grows to a forensic Choi Won Young and the veteran actor brings to you a mix of menace and innocent ignorance. I actually sympathized with this character, as much as I found others not really seeing anything in him but a monster.

Park Bo Gum. This guy is undeniably cute, but he can set his features ranging to dark and menacing to neutral and uncaring... to his heartbreaking vulnerable baby. TTATT I love this guy... there is nothing I can say about this guy, but I want to blow dry your hair, but I can't because only hyung can touch your tresses. Hahaha.

Jang Nara. This is my first Jang Nara drama... and i thought she was the cutest, fiestiest actress I have seen. Sure she is small, but her fight scene in this is probably the best. I have to admit that I am still peeved that women in kdrama's are still mostly decorative with little in put to the "academic", but Jang Nara is the hero of justice with a heart... and I don't know... even if she gets saved in most dire instances, she doesn't just sit there to get rescued. She fights with her everything, protecting herself and others. I don't know, she's my little fighter and I loved her. Jang Nara's acting is cute and endearing. I can't say enough about commending this, even for at least the attempts of delivering gender performance equality. Haha.

2. The philosophy and more the intelligent dialogue. I liked the embedded philosophy in this stor about sociopathy, society, and everything in between. I really enjoyed the dialogue too. And the most impressive is Lee Hyun's nerdy profession of his love "Your importance is one divided by zero." That my nerdy self just melted to in to a puddle and I professed my infinite love for Seo in Guk... because... it's ing indeterminate. ;A;
3. Bromance and Team dynamics

4. Seo In Guk's engaging kisses. (coughs. /gets smacked by TOP again.)

What you might dislike:

1. Undeveloped love triangle. Never was a fan of triangles so...

2. Ambiguous ending. I was fine with this... I didn't really think they could end this in a way that would be satisfying, and them opting for a rather open ending was actually quite relieving. I was afraid they'd haphazardly end this with untidy knots... and I was actually quite happy.

I think this is it for this one. I hope you watch this. If you have already, let me know if you are as big of a fan as I am or if it was a meh. You can also recommend me a show!
