Sevvy's Favourite Music (as far as I can remember... and other sevvy limitations)

My favourite eonnie, HelloKorea!, asked about my favourite music on earlier post, and while I could have answered the question privately, I opted for the soapbox, just 'cause I like talking about myself. I think music tells something about a person... I actually really want a nap, right now. Ho. Working is so tiring. TTATT why did I ever want to grow up? Give me my youthful metabolism and powers of not feeling like when I am not hung over... gad. since music is a product of expression, you usually like things that express your soul. My favourites do tend to shift most of the time, and these are heavily doused in YG artists most of the time because, you know, TOP's face brings sevvy on the yard. oh wellz.

I'mma start with the recent picks that I have in common with eonnie:

1. Take Care of You by Giriboy

Mood: Melancholic

This is probably one of the saddest songs in Giriboy's arsenal, and the music expresses this with subtle strings and consistent percussion. The delivery of the rap is rough like the feeling of being in a situation that you both love and feel suffocated in. When I hear this song, sevvy get a bit depressed, and my heartaches. /cries It's also deep in terms of content, and the song is a story. It's beautiful, and sad, and just...

2. Body by Mino

Mood: Melancholic

Body was advertised by YG as sensual and y, and while lyrically and visually, I can only agree. I think though musically speaking this is a sad song. The sounds are digital as far as I can tell (except for the percussion). Do notice that a lot of rhythm lingers and leaves reverbration, and this reflects the lyrical verses that talk about a ual experience, but also something Mino regards as beautiful and perfect.

We were perfect.

Bawling all over your body.

It's desperate longing, and desperation just echoes sevvy's hollow soul. ahaha.

Mino's delivery is very haphazard and I feel like it's compensating for loss masculinity in lossing a love that he doesn't even want to admit to. The lyrics, I'm talking about your lips. I'm talking about your hips. I'm talking about everything about you... is telling in my opinion.

There was a reviewer who said that this song has a lot of hell references and I kind of agree. The red and fire depicts passion, but also hell, and passion can be both, I say.

3. Pricked by Mino and Tae hyun

Mood: Melancholic

Haha. For a non-Mino/Winner fan, I am kind of a Mino fan. OTL. Anywho, I was obsessed with this song a few months back. This is bare strings and some echo-like digital projections. The vocals are strong and the delivery is everything. EVERYTHING.

4. Bad by Tablo feat. Bom

Mood: Melancholic

Strings, percussion. Yeah, I'mma stop talking about instrumentation since I feel like I am missing since I haven't done active listening in a while. I am picking Bom version instead of Jinsil's original, but both are good! I just like how Bom's uncontrolled voice feels involved in the story instead of just talking about it. I have always liked rough, and just imperfections make the song connect with me more. This song is about how love can be bad, and the roughest part here is the part where Tablo talks about you know look hideous like me, which toxic relationships are. It's volatile, it spreads. I think that's amazing.

4. 1AM by Taeyang, Crooked by GDragon and Act like Nothing by TOP

I'm just going to group these  boys together, heh. They're my consistent TOP! 1AM and Crooked I think has the same feel. The beat are both upbeat and I think the vocals are the one that betrays the message. It's like having a facade of being okay, and not being... anywhere near that. I find that not everyone like these two, and sometimes when people do like it, they like it for completely different reasons. I listen to these and I get pretty depressed. Hahaha.

Crooked feels really angry and just I don't give an F, and then visually you get GD crying by the toilet. I just think that's pretty depressing. Haha.

Act Like Nothing's Wrong is an TOP song that's really personal to him, and I kind of respect that he's averse to these projects. This is pretty simple in terms of background music, and as usual TOP's voice is gravely and rough and perfect to deliver this angry rebuff to an ex that he misses quite terribly. :( I can't imagine having to perform this over and over.

(Bonus!) Another TOP! It's Of All Days (Oneul ttara) this I think is more stylized, but I like this for the casualness of the lyrics and the atmosphere. If you're a TOP fan you know that he's really into symbolism and imagery and the coffee shop ambience, the meeting of an ex, the pretense of sipping of an extremely bitter coffee that you can't even taste... it's very... uhh sensual, in a way that you can feel it. I don't like autotune, and TOP likes this to kingdom come, but I kinda understand this that you need to hide in stylization when you're speaking of something raw.

5.Crazy Guy by #gun feat Jessi

Mood: angsty, angry

#gun is actually Mino's cousin if you didn't know. LOL. This song has a story behind it were Gil realized that #gun has a problem creating songs that lie outside his life experience, hence this song that actually tells a story about personal experience about breakups. I think this is #gun's strongest performance, and I just... I like it. The juvenile anger and just resentment and . :3 I just like this for the grrs.

6. One Way Love and Erase by Hyorin

Hyolyn or Hyorin is really big in making OST for dramas, or so I've heard... I am grouping this two just because. Haha. This talks about being stuck in a bad relationship, and missing a past relationship, respectively. I like Hyorin's raspy voice. I just do. I think this feels a bit jazzy... I mean Erase... of course... ah.

And others, I personally like a lot of Korean Hiphop but I don't think they're the right feel for this post. Hahaha. I enjoy CJAMM's Illusion, BeWhy's Forever and Day Day, Yezi's Lunar World.... among others. I usually like an artist and just stay with them because I like what they express. Korean Hip Hop are usually rooted on the self, and I just kinda buy in to that self, you know.

Today, if you're wondering what I am listening to, it's Cello sonatas. Haha. Classical music just kills sevvy, it kills me.

What, you want me to listen to your favourite music? Why sure! Maybe I'll do it.

I just came back from the sea of related videos in youtube, i lost my way after number 4... Could't resist those old top/bigbang videos and ended up watching most of it... The feels while listening to TOP's Oh Mom is still unexplainable.
