She's the girl that no one ever knows

traits »
positive:  hardworking, cheerful, positive, kind
negative: stubborn, naive, sometimes childish, lacks sufficient coping skills

personality » miyah has a dream, and that dream is what propels her forward each and every day. her eyes are always on her goal, of someday acting and singing onstage. its what gets her through. she's optimistic to the point where she's almost naive, always believing that things can get better. her hardworking nature combined with her positive attitude means that she's always striving to do her best - waking up early every morning to go to extra vocal lessons, rushing around to her classes, working as a waitress in her spare time to pay off her tuition. despite her busy life, however, she still makes an effort to strive to be kind to those around her, being the type of person to smile at small children and help old people across the street.

on the other hand, this frantic, crazy life of hers is like a house of cards about to fall. she's always rushing so fast its so hard to do everything and still take the time to enjoy life. she becomes very irritable when this is pointed out to her, wanting instead to still believe that if she could just work hard enough, if she could just get everything done and be the person she needs to be, her dream can come true. in this way she's very childish, and lacks the sufficient coping skills needed in order to face reality. in this way, when faced with terrible disappointment or sadness, she withdraws into herself, a tendency to self-destruct. she isolates herself, feels hopeless, lost in the emotion until time or a third party brings her back.

overall, though, she really does want to enjoy life to the fullest. to her friends, she is silly and cheesy and a ton of fun, even if sometimes they worry about the extent to which she pushes herself. her quirks make her endearing to the person who loves her, even as he worries about her safety and health at times too.

background » miyah grew up in chengdu, china, the only daughter to a neurosurgeon  and a housewife. she grew up incredibly loved and taken care of, but at the same time in the shadow of her parents. her father was a one of the best surgeons in the city's hospital, and her mother was a queen socialite, well-loved by everybody. mingyu looked up to them as her heroes, wanting to be just like them. as part of the rising middle class in china, she never really wanted for anything. she received an extensive education in the arts in school, falling in love with music and deciding at a very young age that it was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. her father, being a scientific-minded man, supported her in her endeavours, but encouraged her to try her very  hardest at whatever it was she chose to do.

miyah therefore pursued singing and acting throughout high school, winning parts in school plays and community theatre productions. she gained a little bit of a reputation in her small section of chengdu - she was considered the girl who was going places. at one point, at the age of 16, she considered auditioning for sm entertainment's global auditions, but did not make it in. still, she enjoyed kpop on top of her classical and musical theatre, and therefore decided to study korean in high school in order to apply to korea national university of arts upon graduation. saying goodbye to her family and travelling to a foreign country was new and exciting to her, and at first miyah was afraid of making many mistakes, but she feels pretty certain that she's where she's meant to be. as it stands, she's currently studying to receive about the equivalent of a b.f.a. in music and performing arts. she does whatever extracurricular work she can also, working at a restuarant (a 'diner' for western tourists), and sometimes assisting with local theatre productions as well. most recently, her biggest gig was helping as a technical assistant for seoul's production of "in the heights", featuring a variety of kpop's biggest stars.

We are more than what we seem to be

love interest & backup » kim jongdae (chen)
occupation » idol

personality » j
ongdae is the lead vocalist of EXO-M, a hard-working, dedicated performer and a genuinely good person overall. known for his kind-hearted and gentle nature, jongdae is often seen to be looking out for his fellow EXO members and his fans. he's generally easy-going and laid back, prone to often joking around as part of the beagle line with members baekhyun and chanyeol. jongdae definitely has a playful and mischevious side that might come across to some as slightly childish (especially due to his habit of playfully whining "whyyyy") - however, he also has displayed signs of maturity and responsibilty in the past, again often taking care of his fellow members and knowing when to stop a joke in case it becomes problematic. in this way, jongdae seems very likeable and gets along well with mostly everyone around him. he's very committed to being the best vocalist he can be, once stating that his dream is to be the best singer in the world, and often states that he feels like he still has a lot to learn.

jongdae also has a slightly flirty nature, one that likes to joke around (labelled as a "troll" by some fans). this is mainly the persona he undertakes as chen, onstage, the person he presents to his fans - cheerful, sweet, playful. however, he can also sometimes be more subdued (more offstage than on), allowing him to also be respectful and caring. while he is a very good and likeable person, he also seems like a hard person to get to know intimately, as he also appears to be very private and maybe even slightly reserved when it comes to very serious things or negative emotions. such things he has certainly never shown to the public, and those around him may also be unaware of his reservations, believing that the jongdae he presents is the truest level of depth he possesses.

background » joined sm entertainment in 2011, debuted as a part of exo-m in 2012, and played benny in the seoul production of "in the heights" in 2015, where he met miyah
Best thing I ever had
first meeting & impression » they met during tech rehearsals for "in the heights". miyah was working as a student technical assistant, in charge of coordinating props and getting actors to their marks on time. jongdae was cast as benny, one of the secondary leads in the musical.

though mijah was aware that jongdae was a cast member (actually being a minor fan of exo, in particular exo-m for singing in her native language), and also knew of his activities as an idol (having a minor girl crush on zhang liyin and admiring his "breathe" duet with her in sm the ballad) they didn't actually meet until the second day of tech week. miyah was understandably stressed and frazzled - this was her first real shot at a professional production outside of school, and she wanted everything to go perfect, only whoever the hell was playing benny wasn't where he was spposed to be and this really wasn't helping.

she found him outside the side entrance to the theatre, practicing his lines and dance steps, and frantically motioned for him to follow her to his mark. she may have also yelled something about "i've been looking everywhere for you oh my god its almost time what is wrong with you you sound perfect okay you don't need more practice hurry up before i get in trouble"

she may have also been on the verge of tears due to stress - a final exam coming up the next day, a six hour shift at the restaurant after this tech rehearsal. when he turned back to her, he noticed this, as well as her accent.

as they headed back into the theatre, he murmured, in mandarin, "i'm sorry. thank you for coming to find me."

her first impression of him was that he was very kind, very hardworking, and someone she admired greatly.

his first impression of her was similar, a hardworking girl who obviously knew what she was doing (this being his first musical, he relied on her for a lot of things, like knowing what a traveller curtain or blocking is).

relationship & interaction » they grew closer throughout the production, with jongdae often going to her with questions he had about the technical parts of the musical (which curtain is the traveller, is this blocking correct, ect). it became a common sight to see eventually, them sitting on the edge of the stage during breaks, her with her headset, laughing and leaning in to listen to him tell a joke, or him leaning back on his hands and smiling as she told him what she was currently studying about music and theatre. sometimes, she'd correct his mandarin (his accent was really terrible, she told him, but cute) and he'd teach her new words in korean (her accent wasn't terribly terrible, he teased, but it could still use improvement). eventually, as they got to know each other better, as he became more aware of her hopes and dreams, he offered to help her improve her own vocals as well. sometimes they'd take time during these breaks to go outside (if there weren't any fans clamoring outside, that is) and he'd give her tips on how to improve her voice. likewise, she'd give him notes (critiques) on his performance as an actor and how to improve.

they grew so close, incredibly close. eventually, they took turns bringing each other coffee (or, in some cases, he'd bring her coffee and she'd bring him tea for his throat). once he stole her headset and chatted goodnaturedly with the other techs while she playfully swatted his arm and whined for him to give it back. by opening night, they were on familiar terms with each other, him admonishing her for calling him "kim chen-ssi" and telling her to call him "jongdae-yah." he in return had begun to playfully call her "jag-miyah", a play of the word "jagiya" and her name, much to the amusement of the cast members and technicians.

on opening night, he introduced her to the members of exo that had come to see him. though they referred to each other as good friends, it was becoming increasingly apparent that there was something there. oh sehun, park chanyeol, and byun baekhyun all teased jongdae about it the next time they were all together, but kim junmyeon recognized how dangerous this could be, but kept his mouth shut.

throughout the various performances, jongdae juggled both his role as benny and playing a part in the exo-lution concerts, along with exo's japanese debuts. though he had considerably less downtime now, he still texted miyah every now and then. she was also experiencing quite a bit of stress herself, with school and work, but looked forward to the winter break, when she hoped to have more downtime to focus on her work in the theatre, maybe audition for some new productions. she's also working on applying for a student exchange program in new york city, where she'll be able to study and work on broadway. during performances though, they get along as though no time has passed, often going out to celebrate together after a successful night. they're currently working their way through some of seoul's higher end karaoke bars and restaurants, hopefully to have eaten at a majority of them before the show closes.

as it stands, the two of them are not officially anything, but there is definitely something there. in "in the heights", where jongdae has to kiss his fellow actress kim bo-kyung right at the end of the first act, miyah is always curiously busy at that precise moment and misses it every single time. likewise, jongdae is always curiously very aware if miyah mentons handsome young men at the diner where she works, particularly a certain gwon junseo, who miyah describes as "a very handsome busboy coworker". it is very apparent that they care for each other greatly, with miyah texting him a "fighting!" before every exolution concert, and him doing the same for her right before a text. indeed, there is definitely the potential for something to be there - only, there's his fans to think of her, and her dreams, and this, and that...

the end of us » eventually, word gets out to the netizens that exo's chen is "seeing someone", and pictures of her and him hanging out after performances flooded the web. there were some positive responses, and some incredibly negative ones, and miyah was horrified, hurt by their words and afraid of what this would do for jongdae's image. therefore, she limited her contact with him and threw her efforts into her application for the exchange.

whether or not she gets it is up to you. jongdae is understandably hurt by her distance, but determined to make it up to her. whether or not they actually get together and stay together is also up to you.

Forget me not
- her relationship with her family is incredibly positive, she calls her parents every week to let them know how she's doing.
- her best friend in china was named suyin, and they still keep in touch. suyin was the one who got her into kpop and when she finds out that miyah knows kim jongdae, is calling her pretty much every night to get the scoop
- miyah had a crush on a busboy at the restaurant she works at, gwon junseo, who teases her about her korean, but goodnaturedly. however, his parents are prejudiced against the chinese, therefore eliminating any chance of them dating. even so, she used to daydream about it before meeting jongdae
- she also has a rival at that restaurant, a park ki-young, a young woman who is also prejudiced against the chinese, thinking that they come over to korea and take all of the available jobs. she also admires exo greatly and is jealous that miyah is so close to jongdae
- as a result, ki-young is constantly badmouthing miyah to their boss, and often sends fussy or rude customers her way
- miyah really hates her job, as she has to deal with rude, sometimes racist, customers on a daily basis
- many of the netizens comments of her and jongdae remarked on her chinese heritage - others called her ugly, a , ect. she pretended they didn't hurt her, but they did
- she got along fairly well with the other exo members when they came to see jongdae, and they often inquire jongdae about her, whether to or if they're honestly curious
Let's fly tonight
uestions, comments, scene requests etc.

- jongdae finding out she's applying for the exchange program and not sure if he should be excited for her or not
- kinda might wanna see drunk jongdae after a performance and after the whole netizen controversy - wonder what he would be like while like that
- theatre shenanigans
- miyah breaking down eventually from stress and going to jongdae for comfort
- this was fun, thank you!
