Gidoong was born and raised as the younger one of two children to an odd family in Seoul, South Korea. Her parents were hippies – Gidoong and her family lived in a caravan until her second year of elementary school, before the space of the van became too cramped. Her mom was working in a flower shop and her dad in an old antique store so her brother Giyoung pretty much raised her most of the time. Gidoong never visited a kindergarden, so he showed her the most important things she had to know, such as social norms, tying shoe laces and the basics of reading before she entered school. Gidoong's upbringing wasn't a common one, her parents had different values than the majority of South Korea and so Gidoong learned more about herbs, charity and folklores than about the real world outside. Looking back, Gidoong would describe her parents as careless – they did love her and her brother but they never really behaved as adults or guardians and a lot of things would have been easier if her parents wouldn't have tried to pass on their hippie lifestyles to her. Even when she had high fever, her parents would try to cure it with herbs and naturophatic medicine and Wearing the old, crazily-patterned hand-me-downs of her brother and having long, uncombed hair, she was clearly sticking out like a sore thumb when she first started school. A few children gave her odd looks or picked on her but giyoung helped her and over the years Gidoong learned how to defend herself.

As a child, Giyoung was her best friend and biggest role model. She aspired to be just like him. When Giyoung picked up hip hop as a hobby, Gidoong tagged along. She could identify herself more with the Hip Hop genre than with the favorite artists of her parents, like Bob Marley, Eric Clapton and Creedence Clearwater Revival whose CDs her parents played from morning 'til dawn in their small van and later their flat. She admired the lyrics of Verbal Jint, 1TYM and Dynamic Duo, she liked the way it was flowing, that it could sound so tough while also being so emotional and carried a deep, thought-provoking meaning. Gidoong had always been a fan of poetry and she thought that Hip Hop was a really different form of art which helped to express one's sentiments. She didn't like songs about chicks, drugs, money at first, her favorites were about earning respect and recognition, hardships and social justice.

Giyoung started doing rap covers after a while and at first Gidoong didn't follow because she didn't have much confidence in her voice. Giyoung had a pleasant and unique voice that was so good that it got him accepted at Hanlim, one of south korea's most prestigious High Schools of Performing Arts, while Gidoongs voice, was still not fully developed in it's teenager phase. however, she wanted to do something hiphop-ish too, and so she started writing lyrics and invested half an hour each day to write down her thoughts, feelings and whatever crossed her mind in form of short poems. She kept a thick black book with simple, white pages around her where she would write everything down and once it was finished, she would buy another book that looked identical and continue writing her musings there. Her lyrics improved steadily over the years, she started to rhyme more and more words, her wordplays and double innuendos got better and so did her wit and her vocabulary. When Giyoung stumbled one day over the book, he was stunned at her lyrical ability and urged her to rap. He told her that if she practiced a lot, she would also have the chance to go to Hanlim. So she tried her best and eventually made it into that school. To make it short: Giyoung was the person who made her want to pursue music in first place.

At Hanlim she was one of the better students and even befriended a few people who would debut later on. High School was the best time period in her life – even though she tried her best to hide it, all of her items, school-stuff and clothes made her look like she was either poor or hippie-esque and in the past she received lots of weird stares and disdain from her peers. At Hanlim there were more artsy people or outgoing eccentrics so she felt more accepted than ever. it's also when she found her passion in idol music - with her friends yerim, halla and sowon being trainees preparing to debut, she slowly was introduced to the korean pop music. she had mad respect for their dedication and the amount of time they invested into their training. after the korean hip hop industry started to get more and more overtaken by wannabe-thugs rapping about money, girls and trespasing the law, innocent and imaginative kpop concepts started to become a sanctuary. she went to a few underground battles and was disappointed in the hostility and objectification in the lyrics. sowon told her that she should try applying for a kpop company instead of pursuing a rapping career since it was a safer choice and gidoong thought the same, under the condition, that she could rap and write a few bars on her own if she'd debut. she also tried applying at source music and happy face entertainment but was rejected since they weren't looking for somebody like her.

when giyoung was nineteen and had enough money saved up to rent an own apartment, he asked Gidoong whether she would like to move in with him instead of remaining with her parents. Gidoong was overjoyed, her parents didn't allow her but she was seventeen and old enough to make her own decisions so she didn't think twice before agreeing to move in with him. Knowing her passion, he brought her recording and songwriting equicement so she could create her own beats and release singles and mixtapes on soundcloud. He even promoted her on pann where ock joohyun stumbled by accident over one of her songs and was impressed. she got in touch with him and asked whether gidoong was interested in becoming a trainee. gidoong couldn't believe it at first, being offered to become a trainee under ock joohyun's, the real fin.kl ock joohyun's company. of course she agreed happily and couldn't wait to start training. So currently she currently lives with her brother, finishes her last year of school while training under aida entertainment. Her parents disapprove of her lifestyle (they disapprove of 'manufactured pop music' even more than of hip hop) and her choice to move in with her brother but to be honest, Gidoong was never as happy as she is now.

  
 

they might have healing powers; Gidoong collects gemstones and has already over fifty different ones. When she is anxious she takes her favorite one, an amethyst, where ever she goes because she thinks they have a positive influence on her.

my playlists; she's an Avid hip hop and rnb fan. Verbal Jint and Simon D (formerly from Supreme Team) are her favorite rappers ever but Zion.T, Genius Nochang, Giriboy, Black Nut, Tiger JK, Dynamic Duo and Mad Clown also belong to her most played artists.

a true fangirl; She cried when Supreme Team disbanded and cried again when E-Sens was found out to be consuming drugs for a second time. She's really emtionally invested in these artists.

the worst fear of a performancer; Gidoong has a lymph nodes disease. From time to time they'll swell and block her vocal chords. Then her voice will sound strained and she can't perform up to her best.

oppa, buy me diamond rings; Her aegyo is really awkward since she extraggerate a bit with high pitching her voice

no!; First thing she does in the morning is making herself a cup of coffee. She doesn't talk or aknowledge anyones presence before she doesn't drink coffee.

gotta keep that chocolate; Other than bubblegum she barely eats sweets and fats since she doesn't want a bad skin condition, gains weight easily and doesn't want to lose her abs.

it was so pretty, i couldn't not buy it!; She doesn't like shopping but she loves buying small souvenirs and accessoires.
 

A lot of trainees took training very seriously and started crying, throwing a fit or even dropping out when they couldn't keep up with the other trainees, Gidoong saw everything less strict, she worked harder when she lacked in one aspect but she wouldn't get hysteric about that. the exception was the dancing training, she had two left feets and even though she liked dancing, being one of the last people to imitate a choreography was rather annoying. In the beginning she was - like almost every newcomer - unpopular and a bit of a loner but after half a year this slowly changed. although she wasn't the most popular girl, she had a few trainee friends and no one was really mean to her.
