Kyungsoo wasn't expecting much from all the hype surrounding the new dating trend called Grow a Boyfriend so much so that he didn't believe he’d fall in love.

It happens slowly, but Kyungsoo begins to notice little Jongin isn’t as tiny as he used to be. Inch by inch Jongin seems to grow each week and it surprises Kyungsoo when Jongin begins to grow past his shoulders. When Kyungsoo first got Jongin months back the little one could barely reach up to his kneecaps.

However, one thing Kyungsoo is always surprised about is Jongin’s constant clinginess towards him.

“Kyungie, come sit here!” Jongin shouts as the boy walks into the living room with a bowl of popcorn. It’s Friday which usually means both Jongin and Kyungsoo sit in the living room watching a movie. Tonight, its Jongin’s choice which also means it’s either going to be a comedy or some random anime movie the boy chooses. It’s the former which means Kyungsoo doesn’t has the sit the movie struggling to read the translations and watch was happening.

He takes a seat next to Jongin, the boy smiles and wants to pull his closer. Kyungsoo feels his arm wrap around his waist as the boy pulls Kyungsoo to his side. It’s usually like this with Jongin ever since he’s grown a bit.

It’s still weird to Kyungsoo though as Jongin snuggles into Kyungsoo sides, his head leaning on the boy’s neck. It starts small, but Kyungsoo’s sure he’s slowly falling for Jongin, yet he’s never expressed this to the other. He’s confused vastly because sure Jongin was made to only love him, but Kyungsoo isn’t sure if he’s ready to admit he loves the other to himself.

Jongin chuckles when something happens on screen, shaking Kyungsoo out from his reverie. He sneaks a peak at Jongin; the boy’s mocha cheek pressing against creamy neck makes Jongin look like a chipmunk.

Jongin must have sensed the boy looking at him when his eyes flicker to Kyungsoo, “What Kyungie?”

He says in small whisper, like he doesn’t want to talk too loudly over the movie. Kyungsoo chuckles a bit beneath his breath, “Nothing, I was just thinking.”

Jongin sits up and turns his head to Kyungsoo, “About what?”

Kyungsoo sighs, “Well, uh…”

Jongin smiles when Kyungsoo looks flustered, “Cute.”

Kyungsoo’s cheeks turn a light pink when he looks at Jongin smiling at him. Then Jongin lays himself in Kyungsoo lap, “Don’t think about it, whatever it is Kyungie. It probably doesn’t matter. Watch the movie instead with me, look this is a funny part!”

Kyungsoo watches a Jongin giggles again laying on his side on the boy’s lap. He sighs looking at Jongin as his hands hesitantly reach out for the boy’s hair. Jongin giggles again while Kyungsoo lightly runs his hands through Jongin’s hair. Its soft which makes Kyungsoo relax instantly, yeah maybe he’s thinking too hard about this relationship.

The next day both boys are walking in the front doors of a café. It’s nearing winter so it’s getting colder, the trees are turning color and their breathe wafts out in wisps. Kyungsoo slides his hat off when the bells of the café ring out, he looks around before spotting someone waving at him sitting in a stall.

Kyungsoo smiles as he takes Jongin’s arm leading the pair over to the booth. He lets Jongin sit down first, the boy takes off his scarf and hat (Kyungsoo was a bit worried Jongin would get sick so he made the boy dress in extra layers).

“Geez, Kyungsoo he’s not going to freeze up like a Popsicle,” Jongdae laughs as Kyungsoo grabs Jongin’s scarf folding it on the table. Kyungsoo narrows his eyes up at Jongdae, “He could easily get sick Jongdae. I don’t see you worrying over Minseok when your boyfriend only has on a thin sweater.”

Jongdae raises his eyebrows while one of his hands holds on to Minseok’s. He snorts, “Because Kyungsoo unlike you I trust Minseok enough to allow him to make decisions for himself.”

“Right,” Kyungsoo chides as he lays both of Jongin’s hat and scarf on the lay, both neatly folded. The waiter comes shortly after taking all four of their orders. It doesn’t take long before she’s returning with some drinks while Kyungsoo and Jongdae squabble back and forth.

“So, Kyungsoo have you let Jongin take you out yet?”

Kyungsoo looks, eyes wide, “What, no. Jongdae if you’ve haven’t noticed Jongin hasn’t exactly ‘matured’ yet. I’m pretty sure I still have a few more weeks until he’s ready, but who says I’m ready?”

This time Minseok speaks up, he’s been quietly listening to the two, “I think he’s old enough, at least let him take you somewhere that’s his choice. It doesn’t have to be romantic either, just as long as you’re both comfortable with it.”

Jongin looks between Jongdae and Minseok; both are looking at him while Kyungsoo sighs, “Fine, fine… Uh Jongin?”

Jongin looks at Kyungsoo; he’s not sure what to say exactly. Kyungsoo’s always chosen for him and usually it’s not a bad one when he takes him somewhere. Jongin’s just lucky to have Kyungsoo care for him; anything else at this point is a bonus.

“Uh,” he hesitates for a second, “Oh, I know, but it’s a secret, uh… can I surprise you? If-If that’s okay?”

Kyungsoo smiles giving Jongin’s shoulder a gently rub, “Okay.”

“Okay Kyungie.”

The foursome continues talking though it’s mostly Jongdae and Kyungsoo trading small talk while their boyfriends sit quietly next to them. It doesn’t take long before Kyungsoo getting up ushering Jongin to follow closely behind him as he grabs his hand.

“Well, this was fun… I guess, let’s meet up next time Jongdae?”

Jongdae gives Kyungsoo as salute while he holds onto Minseok’s hand, “Okay, have fun you two!”

As Kyungsoo walks out of the café he notices Jongdae making kissy face at him and he scoffs in disgust. It may not be a lie to say Kyungsoo hasn’t kissed Jongin yet, but that’s only because he’s going slow in this relationship. Giving everything at once might ruin the special bond he has with Jongin. He smiles as Jongin takes the lead this time.

“Uh, Jongin, where are we going?”
