Envy of Serenity

chapter twelve: xii. unfortunate or not so unfortunate recollection

“He was taking care of you, putting a wet towel on your forehead when you pulled his head down and kissed him. Luckily, it was an indirect kiss, because he was wearing a mask. You should have seen the look of shock on his face when he stumbled into here, and started sputtering about what happened!” Kai cackled.

My hand flew up to my lips. “So me asking everyone to kiss me was really legit? It wasn’t just some joke?” I demanded.

“How would we even have the capacity to come up with something crazy like that?” Kris asked, grinning.

“Kkamjong, go find Hoon,” I announced. “I want to talk to him.”

“Gosh, since you’re sick and hurt half the time, all you’re doing is bossing us around,” Kai said, pouting a little. “You have to bribe me to do it.”

“I’ll give you a hug or something,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Now go!”

“No, that’s not enough!” Kai teased.

“Then Fanfan oppa, will you find him and bring him here for a hug?” I asked.

Kris nodded, before disappearing out the door.

“I would be upset, but now we’re alone together so it makes up for it,” Kai said, coming to sit beside me. “I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“What do you want to talk about?” I asked.

He was silent. “You seem like a good adviser… so I wanted to come ask your advice for something.”

“What, do you like a girl or something?” I asked, rolling my eyes.

His eyes grew wide, before he shook his head frantically. “No, of course not! Well, technically, I do. I like you. But that’s not what I came to ask you advice for.”

I blushed. “Then… what do you want to ask me advice for?”

“Well… so my nuna’s birthday is coming up soon, and I want to send her something for it, but I don’t know what to get her. What would you want?” he asked.

I felt a smile growing on my face. He wanted advice for what he wanted for his sister. That was so sweet. “Well… what does she like? What are her interests? And also, what’s your budget?” I asked.

“She likes painting. She basically just paints and draws and all that. And my budget is up to $100.”

I whistled. “Wow, you’re spending a lot for her. Anyway, I think you should get her some paint, or a paintbrush or a canvas or something. Something good and expensive, because she probably already has a lot of whatever. Have you heard her complaining about a lack of paint or something? Then get her some. Acrylic, or whatever.”

He thought, and nodded. “That’s true… thanks!” He smiled at me, and I automatically smiled back. His smile was like that.

Kris came in dragging a complaining Sehun, who immediately shut up and started turning red right when he saw me. I beamed, thanking Kris and telling him I would give him the hug later.

“Sit,” I ordered, pointing to the other side of the bed.

He stood awkwardly, and his shoulders drooped down in defeat, before sitting on the other side of the bed. He gathered his knees up towards his chest and glanced at me nervously.

“First of all, I want to apologize for kissing you in my delirious state and almost causing you to get sick because of that,” I started off. “Not to say that it was bad. I mean, I don’t remember it, but I’m sure kissing you couldn’t have been bad. I mean, it was probably not good either but… um… yeah. Second of all, I order you to stop avoiding me because I don’t even remember it and therefore it is invalid. And yeah that’s it.”

He looked at me with a strange expression on his face, and then he burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny?” I asked, confused.

“I’m sad that it was invalid,” he replied, smirking slightly. Wow, what a 180 degrees flip in personality. “Although it was indirect. Anyway, I’m sure there will be a time when we kiss a lot of valid kisses, so it’ll be all good. After all, I’m going to make you mine anyway.”

I rolled my eyes at him. “I still think this getting one girl to like one of all of you is stupid. Especially if you guys don’t even like her in the first place. I mean, there’s actually a high chance that she’s going to fall for one of you, seeing as its twelve totally different personalities, and you guys are good looking and have good personalities. For the most part. And if none of you liked her in the first place, then it’s a good chance that you’re going to break her heart.”

“Did you just say we’re good looking?” Kai asked, smirking.

“I won’t deny it.” I shrugged.

“And you said that there’s a large possibility that you’ll fall in love with one of us,” Kris added.

“True, but it doesn’t really apply to me since I’m invincible to men trying to charm me and whatnot,” I said, grinning.

“What if we all actually did like you, though?” Sehun asked. “I mean… I don’t know about the others, but I like you.”

I paused, awkwardly. “Well… that certainly raises the chance of me actually liking you, right? I mean… if you think about it, logically, if there’s an attraction coming from the other side, than there’s a higher chance of you liking them too.”

“I like you too,” Kris added, a bit shyly.

“Me three,” Kai said. “And I’m pretty sure everyone else does too. Which knocks away your invincible comment, seeing as all twelve of us like you, which raises the chance, and therefore you’re going to have to fall for one of us.”

“Or two of us, you never know,” said Sehun.

“Or all twelve of us.” Kris grinned.

“I’m going back to my room,” I announced, getting out of the bed, standing wobbly.

“I’ll accompany you back. Duizhang always piggybacks you, and Sehun did yesterday. So I’ll do it today,” Kai said, coming to crouch in front of me.

“Wait, let me give Fanfan oppa a hug first,” I said.

Sehun raised his eyebrows. “Why?”

“Because that was the bribe to go and get you,” I said, grinning.

“I would have gone either way,” Kris mumbled, before coming to my right and holding his arms out awkwardly.

I couldn’t help but laugh at his awkwardness, before leaning in and hugging him tightly. My head didn’t even come up to his shoulders as I hugged his torso, head leaning on his chest. He was so tall, probably more than 30cm taller than me. He hugged me back awkwardly, and I looked up, smiling at him. Then, I pulled away, climbing onto Kai.

“Thanks for the hug! And remember, you have to initiate it first. I don’t want to bribe you with skinship, so you can just initiate it. But don’t be a Hajong oppa and do weird skinship. And—wait Kkamjong I still have to—”

Kai walked out the door before I could say more to Kris.

“Who’s Hajong?” he asked.

“Jongdae oppa. You’re Kkamjong because you’re dark, and he’s Hajong because he’s light!” I laughed.

He rolled his eyes. “You’re the worst.”

I laughed. “I know.”

“Do I get a prize for carrying you to your room?” he asked.

“You’re the one who volunteered for it, babo.” I rolled my eyes. “But if you really want, I’ll give you a hug too.”

“No, a hug’s not enough,” he whined. “Give me a kiss!”

“I’ll peck you on the cheek, okay? Is that enough?” I sighed exasperatedly.

He nodded eagerly, opening the door to the staircase and starting up the stairs. “Will I be the first one out of Exo to be kissed by you?”

I laughed. “No. Hajong was, actually. On the cheek. But don’t worry, Kkamjong, you’re second!”

He gasped, before opening the door to my room. “You kissed someone before me that wasn’t me? How… how could you?”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Anyway, we’re here. Let me down.”

He let me down and then leaned his cheek towards me, patting on the spot he wanted me to kiss. “Right there, okay?”

I nodded, and for some reason, I felt my heart beating a little bit faster. Might as well get it over with quickly. I leaned forward quickly, and pecked him—but he turned his head so that the kiss grazed the side of his mouth, and he couldn’t help but grin at me sheepishly. “Oops, sorry.”

I gaped at him. “Kkamjong!”

“Sorry...” he said, not looking sorry at all. “That was by accident, so can you re-do the kiss?”

“No! Now leave!” I said, motioning for him to leave.

He grinned at me, pulling me into a quick hug, before practically skipping out of the room. I collapsed onto my bed, astounded, but couldn’t help but laugh at how giddy he had been after the kiss. Just like a little kid. He was like a little puppy; really adorable.

I shook my head, a hand flying to the spot where his lips had touched mine. These boys were not letting me not fall in love with them very easily.
