The Great PretenderCHAPTER 7 PERSONAL NURSE
"I wasn't informed that I was meant to be with you for today."
Ding Dong. Ding Dong.
“I shouldn’t have come here.” Jongin murmured. He clicked the doorbell again for the third time. He was about to give up when the door swung open. An aging woman, grayish hair, looks like in her mid-fifties, wrinkled eyes.
“What can I do for you?” the old woman inquired calmly. “I…” the old woman’s gaze dropped on the stamp located on his uniform’s pocket.
“Ah. You must be a classmate of Soojung, right?” Jongin cleared his throat before answering. “Yes Ma’am.”
The old woman nodded and gave him a sweet smile. “I’ll just tell her something. Make your way inside. Feel at home.”
The condo unit is spacey but is big enough for Soojung. So Myungsoo’s really something. How come did he know about Soojung’s condo unit?
Few moments later, the old woman went downstairs and headed to the sofa. “Soojung told me that you are her friend, right?” Friend. Seriously?
“Uh, yes.” he skeptically answered, trying to sound honest as possible.
“Well it’s a good thing that she treats you as a friend despite of–” the old woman’s statement was cut off by her ringing phone. “Ah. I need to go. I guess you could take care of her for the mean time. That’s what you came for, right?”
This woman’s giving me chills. How come did she know about it?
“Somewhat like that,” he replied. “Is that so?” she brought out her calling card and hand it to him. “Just call me when you need help. She hasn’t eaten her lunch yet but I prepared a soup there, just reheat it. If you’ll go inside, there’s a mask there. Her sickness is quite contagious–it’s flu–but it’s better to be alert.”
“I better go, take care of her, young man. Don’t do anything bad on her. If she needs help, don’t hesitate to do it. I trust you.” the old woman gave her a pat on the shoulder before leaving the unit with a smile on her face.
Mrs. Lin.
“She’s Mrs. Lin. She’s pretty familiar.” Jongin stretched his body and after it, he called the best doctor he knew–Kim Myungsoo– and sat at the sofa to take a look at the surroundings his eyes can reach.
“Hey there , I didn’t know that you’re handy after all,”
“Nice greeting. Why did you called in the middle of class?”
“Whatever. I just want to tell you that how can you cure–”
“You can cure flu by searching on the net,”
“Wait. I hadn’t told you her sickness.”
“It’s a guess. Flu can take up to three to five days, according to my mother. It can be followed by fatigue for two or three weeks. It depends on how strong her system is. But as far as I can see, she’s been coped up very well.”
Jongin’s forehead creased. As expected from Doctor Kim. Whatever.
“Ok. You’re getting mysterious,”
“I’m always mysterious. You can’t read me. You can’t read my moves.” and after that, Myungsoo ended the call that made Jongin dumbstruck.
“Is he really Myungsoo I met since we’re kids or not?” Jongin removed his uniform’s coat and draped it on to a sofa and took a look at the pot.
“Not enough for her,” he commented. He sat down at the bar stool and browsed the internet to search for the recipe of a soup and other dish
