Chapter 8: And I Pray to Anyone Who Can Hear

Agent Provocateur

"Luhan! Luhan, we have to go!"

"No! I'm not leaving him!"

"Luhan, move!"

"No!"

It was like time was frozen. He could only stare at Sehun's body. Yes, body. Not corpse. Hopefully.

He saw the blood that dribbled gently down his cheek, leaving a little red streak in its wake. His light brown hair was messy and stuck to his forehead with sweat. His eyes were closed. His hands covered his shoulder, presumably where he'd gotten shot. His suit jacket was ripped. He saw the blood staining through his shirt and his pants. He tried to move, to do something, in order to help him. But he couldn't. He was frozen.

The night was cold and loud, a fitting scenery for the image in front of him. The air bit at Luhan's ears and cheeks, turning them a faint pink. The sound of shouts and violence surrounded him, but he didn't dare look away. The shouts were likely directed at him, but he couldn't bring himself to listen.

Sehun had known.

Sehun had known he wouldn't get out of this.

He'd known from the beginning.

But was his life really worth the life of the kids?

Sehun knew how much Luhan had loved them. Luhan tended to be the one to play with them during the day when nobody else would. He'd play soccer with them and sing with them, help them with their schoolwork and teach them how to fix a Rubix cube. He'd hug them when they were upset and listen to them when they were lonely. He'd comfort them in every way he could.

Luhan had really become attached to the children in the short time they'd been together. Sehun had known he'd always be a good parent.

But was Sehun worth them?

Was the boy he was so, so in love with really dead? Trying to save Jiwoo and Jihoon?

Everything involving Sehun flooded back to him, invading his senses.

He remembered the small fights they'd had that they always patched up. The time Sehun had argued with him that Luhan was being too flirty with the others, because someone had pulled Luhan into their lap and held him there. And Luhan had argued that he couldn't get away, and that it wasn't his fault, and that he would never, ever purposely do anything like that to Sehun. In the end, Sehun had eventually pulled Luhan into his lap and held him for hours, whispering apologies and sweet nothings.

The times they went shopping together. The time Sehun locked himself in a dressing room with him and undressed him and just stared at him for the longest time before pinning him up against the wall and tried to make out with him, when Luhan had to push him off so they wouldn't end up getting kicked out of the store. One of the employees came right after Luhan had managed to tug his clothes back on and asked what they were doing. Luhan said that he needed some help with one of the pieces of clothing and the employee walked away. Luhan and Sehun hadn't gone back there since.

The times before they were together.

Oh god, those days.

One day after group training, Sehun tossed him a water bottle and opened his own, and Luhan had been so nervous that his hands were sweating. Sehun had to open the water bottle for him, taking the opportunity to touch Luhan's hand when he grabbed it from him. Luhan took the opportunity to touch Sehun's hand when he grabbed it back and looked at him for longer than he should have.

When Sehun always gave him tiny little smiles that nobody else ever noticed, so happy that Luhan even bothered to look at him, and when Luhan would smile back, Sehun's heart would beat so, so much faster and he'd have to look away to hide his blushing, running a hand through his light brown hair in an attempt to keep his cool.

When Sehun would spend hours on his bed wondering what it was like to hold him, saying nothing was wrong when Luhan had come into his room to talk to him about this guy he liked, describing Sehun perfectly. And Sehun had just comforted him when Luhan had said he didn't think the guy liked him back, looking at him and thinking that Luhan could always try dating Sehun if the guy didn't like him back, but he didn't dare say that. They hadn't shared a room then, but they were together a lot of the time.

When Sehun offered to buy him bubble tea once at night and they ended up getting the same thing, and Sehun talked about how there was this guy that he liked and he kept describing Luhan, thinking that he wouldn't notice. On their way back, Luhan had grabbed Sehun's had gently and said that the boy that he liked was him, and Sehun stopped and hugged him so, so tightly that Luhan dropped their bag of bubble tea and it fell on the ground, spilling everywhere, but neither of them could be bothered to care. Sehun had whispered that he was so glad that he could finally hold him like that, and he was so glad they could be together, and Luhan responded with a huge smile and a tiny peck on the cheek.

When Sehun had come into his room and found Luhan sitting on his bed, asking why he was there, and the older responded that he just wanted to see Sehun. And Sehun had sat next to him and held his hand, then decided they should go out that night. Not to do anything special, just to be together. And they sat on a bench and looked out at the city with the cars zooming by and the neon signs blinking. Sehun held his hand the entire time and caught Luhan staring at his lips. They both leaned in and Sehun's other hand went up to cup Luhan's cheek as their lips met for the first time, and Luhan's hand went to rest on Sehun's chest without even thinking about it. Their first kiss had been under a flickering street lamp in the middle of November, ending when the street lamp made a loud noise and went out, scaring Luhan, though he would never admit it.

When Sehun had been all stressed out and Luhan had found him and tried to comfort him even though Sehun wouldn't say what was wrong. And Luhan had held his hand and kissed him and smiled and he felt butterflies in his stomach. And Sehun put his shaky hands on Luhan's shoulders and looked him in the eye and said he loved him. Luhan started tearing up and smiled and hugged Sehun and whispered back his 'I love you," and Sehun kissed him so, so much, and neither of them ever wanted the moment to ever end.

He could remember the way Sehun's lips felt, the way his body lit on fire when he'd find Sehun staring at him, the way Sehun had gently cried into his shoulder when they fought for the first time and Luhan had left and came back two hours later.

He remembered when Jiwoo had asked him yesterday if he wanted to marry Sehun, and he blushed and nodded slightly, and Jiwoo promised to keep the secret.

And now he would never know.

"Luhan! ing move!" Luhan heard the shout, followed by a push on his side and he toppled over. Another loud gunshot resounded through the air and he blinked the tears out of his eyes. Once his vision cleared, he saw Minseok on top of him.

"Goddammit, Luhan, you're going to get yourself ing killed!" Minseok yelled.

"Minseok..." Luhan whispered. Tears threatened to fall again.

Minseok sighed and got up.

"Yixing, Luhan, you two take him back!" Minseok dashed away and Yixing ran to Luhan's side, scooping Sehun up in his arms and they dashed out the gate.

"It's okay, Luhan," Yixing said, panting. "Minseok knows how you feel right now, but we have to keep moving."

"Yeah," Luhan answered. "What if he's..."

"We're going to hope he's not, Luhan. I'm sorry."

They heard more gunshots as they ran away.

------------

Minseok circled around the outside of the gate slowly, low to the ground, looking for anyone that might still be around. His bow was in his hand with an arrow strung in case he needed to shoot fast. It was hard to see anything in the dark, but his hearing was a very finely tuned sense. He walked for a little bit, his footsteps barely audible on the grass.

He heard the padding of footsteps and the shifting of grass. He froze and looked around quickly, pulling the string on his bow taught. He saw a man trying to walk between two trees and aimed at him. The arrow flew from the bow, leaving a satisfying snap in the air, followed by a grunt and the thud of the body falling on the grass. He slowly creeped over there and pulled the arrow out of the victim's chest, wiping off the blood and returning it to the quiver, putting his bow on his back.

"All right, guys, that's the last of them," Minseok whispered into his earpiece. "I'm coming back." He stood up and began to walk back when he heard another set of footsteps accompanying his. He immediately ducked and rolled to the side, and he felt the displacement air above his head as someone tried to punch him. He stood up quickly and swung at the person's head while they were still recovering from the missed blow. As soon as his fist hit, he kicked up his leg and felt his knee connect with the person's stomach. The person grunted and fell backward.

"Please don't kill me, I have a wife and kids," the person said.

"That's what everyone says," Minseok replied, stringing another arrow in his bow. "You were ridiculously easy to take down, by the way." He aimed at the person's chest.

"Please."

"You should've thought about that before you attacked me," Minseok deadpanned. He let the arrow fly and left it there, walking back to the group.

"Okay, now that's the last of them," Minseok said as he was greeted by Kyungsoo at the gate. He walked through and saw Baekhyun taking his glasses off.

"Hacked and disabled," Baekhyun said happily. "Come on."

"Wait, we have to do our super cool group entrance," Chanyeol whined. Everyone rolled their eyes.

"Come on," Joonmyeon said, walking up to the door and opening it. "Wait. Do you think they'll be in the greenhouse?"

"We should probably check," Jongin said.

"No," Kyungsoo answered at the same time. The couple looked at each other. "They're still her kids. She wouldn't dare hurt them. We can go here now and there later."

"But what if she's down there and she escapes?" Jongin pointed out. Kyungsoo sighed.

"You two, go down there," Joonmyeon decided. "Baekhyun?"

"Already disabled, Joonmyeonnie!" Baekhyun answered happily. Chanyeol smiled and pecked his cheek. Baekhyun just squealed and pushed him away.

"Come on, guys," Minseok said, rolling his eyes. He pushed past Joonmyeon and walked through the door, tugging the older's wrist on his way in. "I can't believe we have to take care of those children."

"You don't mean Jiwoo and-"

"No, I mean Baekhyun and Chanyeol," Minseok interrupted.

"Oh," Joonmyeon responded. Minseok chuckled and they immediately went upstairs. Joonmyeon and Minseok followed him while Baekhyun and Chanyeol stayed downstairs, looking around for anything.

Minseok went up the stairs slowly and he heard a noise. It sounded like... Crying? He frantically dashed over to the former bedroom of the kids, trying to open the door. Trying, because it was locked. He backed up and bashed into it with his shoulder, then realized it was a fingerprint lock.

"Goddammit," he muttered. "Baek, get up here."

"Don't move," a voice said. He looked to the side and saw the lady again, brandishing none other than a pistol.

"What the hell are you doing?" Minseok asked. "How did you find out where they were? Why did you take them? Why are they locked in a room? What the hell did you do to them to make them-"

"I'm their mother. Of course I can take them."

"Actually, we have legal custody," Joonmyeon said. "So you've broken a law."

The lady's eyes widened and she opened to respond, but nothing would come out. She aimed the gun at Joonmyeon's head.

"You're going to kill me?" Joonmyeon asked sarcastically. "Your kids would be so sad, do you even realize that? Are you even aware of how much they love us?"

"Mommy, no!"

"Don't hurt him!"

The kids started frantically screaming together.

"You can't hurt him! He's so nice! He's so much nicer than you or Daddy ever were!"

"If you hurt him, I'll never forgive you!"

The lady's finger tightened on the trigger and everyone ducked. The bullet went just over Joonmyeon's head.

"No! You're terrible!"

"I hate you! How could you?"

"We're fine!" Minseok yelled. "Your mother has ty aim!"

"Watch your mouth," Joonmyeon said.

"Is this really the time?" Minseok snapped.

"No," a voice said. "It's really not." An arm hooked around the lady's neck and dragged her down the stairs, Baekhyun grabbing her gun as he ran past them.

"I'm here!" Baekhyun said, flipping down his glasses.

"Thank god," Joonmyeon said.

"Let me go!" the woman screamed.

"Nope," Chanyeol replied nonchalantly. "That violates my policy."

"What policy? You're a bunch of law-breaking, ty-"

"You're the one who tried to kill my friends. Twice," he added. "I'm just keeping them safe. I'm also keeping your kids happy."

She didn't say another word.

------------

Luhan burst into the hotel, panting. He saw the girl from earlier - Minyoung - in the lobby. Then he realized he was in the lobby. They couldn't bring Sehun in the front doors. He back-pedaled out the doors and met Yixing in the back, dashing through the doors to get the elevator open. He put in his elevator key card, typeed in his code, 345N, and was about to push the button for floor nineteen when Yixing kicked him lightly to get his attention.

"Infirmary's on twenty-three, Luhan."

"Oh, right."

"Luhan. Breathe. You freaking out isn't going to help much, sorry."

Luhan closed his eyes and focused on his breathing, trying to ignore the fact that Sehun could possibly be dea- no, Luhan, stop it. He is fine. He will be fine. He promised.

But some promises are made to be broken.

Luhan had to be strong.

"Give me him," Luhan said. Yixing looked at him and nodded slowly. He let Luhan take the boy from his arms.

As soon as they had gotten away from the chaos, he and Yixing had ripped Sehun's shirt off. Joonmyeon had tossed Luhan his briefcase filled with first aid supplies, saying he knew Luhan knew how to use them. They did what they could for Sehun and ran as fast as was possible.

Sehun's light brown hair was still stuck to his forehead and his hand was open, so Luhan hoped he wasn't dead. The bandages appeared to have stopped staining with blood a while ago.

Thank god Jongdae had been on his way with a Ferrari. Flashy, and no doubt one of Joonmyeon's, but still. Jongdae had went back to the lobby after he got back. He had to take care of the hotel, after all. He had decided to train Minyoung to become a receptionist, and she humbly abided, watching the place while he was away. Of course there was other staff to keep the place under watch, but hey, it's the thought that counts.

He couldn't help but smile softly through the tears as he looked at Sehun. Even on the brink of death, he was still beautiful.

The elevator dinged and he dashed out, pushing through the infirmary doors. The nurses nodded and had him set Sehun on a bed, then asked him to leave. He refused and sat in a chair in the room. The nurses all looked at each other.

"Sir, you can't be in-"

"My friend owns this hotel, and that person that is dying-" he cringed at his use of the word - "is my boyfriend, and I am going to stay here, and you are going to go call a damn doctor." Luhan's voice was laced with fear, disguised as bitterness and anger. The doctor came into the room and looked at Luhan, nodding in understanding.

"Are you sure you'll be able to handle everything you'll see?"

"Yes," Luhan said. I'd do anything for Sehun.

------------

When Baekhyun finally got the door open, the kids rushed forward. Minseok bent down to pick up Jihoon and Jiwoo hugged Joonmyeon's leg.

"Mr. Minseok! I thought I'd never see you again!" Jihoon yelled, tears running down his face. Minseok pulled him away from his shoulder and looked at him.

"Don't think like that. I'll be fine. I've been doing stuff like this for years." Minseok pulled Jihoon back in and kiss him on the face, causing the child to squeal and cover his face in his hands. Minseok giggled and hugged him again, spinning him around.

Joonmyeon squatted down and hugged Jiwoo, wiping away her tears.

"M-Mr. Joonmyeon, I thought you would be..."

"Hey, hey. I've been in the business longer than Minseok has. No need to worry about me."

"I'm so glad you're okay," Jiwoo said, smiling slightly.

"Well, this is all cute and all, but where's my hug?" Baekhyun whined. "I'm the one that got you two out!"

The twins giggled and ran over to the youngest one, hugging his legs. Baekhyun couldn't help but smile widely, his eyes curving into little crescents. He bent down and the kids jumped on on him, pushing him onto his back. They crawled onto him and sat on his chest, giggling. Baekhyun couldn't help but laugh as well.

"Hey, could you two get up?" Baekhyun asked gently, hugging them after they got off. He stood up with a smile. "Hey, Chanyeol. These are our kids now."

"You have to share them with ten others," Joonmyeon said.

"But Chanyeol and I are the two closest to being actual parents."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because we're engaged."

"Oh, Baekhyun, that doesn't make you any more of a parent than-"

"You and Chanyeol are engaged?" Jiwoo screamed, then realized she didn't address Chanyeol right. "Mr. Chanyeol, I mean. Anyways, that's so cute! Can I be the ring bearer? Please, Mr. Baekhyun?"

"We'll be sure to get you a pretty little dress, Jiwoo. And we'll get you a nice suit, Jihoon."

"Hey, Baekhyun, we'll get you a pretty nice suit, too," Chanyeol said through the earpiece. His voice dropped as he said, "And I'll be sure to rip it off later."

Baekhyun blushed and he heard the higher voice of the woman screaming at Chanyeol.

"I love you too, Chanyeollie," he responded after he saw Jiwoo look at him curiously.

"Speaking of Chanyeol, we should probably get down there and deal with the situation," Joonmyeon said. He felt a little tug on the leg of his pant leg.

"Mr. Joonmyeon, what are we going to do to Mommy?" Jihoon asked.

"Well, she broke a law, so she has to go to jail, Jihoon," Joonmyeon answered carefully.

"So she won't die?"

"Not by our hand," Minseok said. "But there's no guarantee she won't get sick in prison. Sorry to break it to you."

"Minseok, why would you tell them that?" Joonmyeon asked, thoroughly appalled.

"Should we really keep them sheltered from reality when we're in this business?" Minseok raised his eyebrow.

"No," Baekhyun said. Joonmyeon sighed.

"Come on, let's go get down there," Minseok said, picking up Jihoon and walking down the stairs. Jiwoo was held by Joonmyeon and Baekhyun followed behind.
Baekhyun was sent to get a van and handcuffs so they could safely bring the woman to the police station. It had tinted windows so nobody could see inside.

"Put them down! Put them down!" the woman screamed.

"You know, it's odd how we've met so much," Joonmyeon said, "yet I don't know your name."

"Put them down you-"

"Mother." Jiwoo's tone was serious. "Stop acting like you're three years old." Jiwoo nodded to Joonmyeon and he set her down. "You need to grow up."

Their mother blinked and started crying again.

"Mr. Minseok?" Jihoon asked.

"Yes, Jihoonnie?"

"I love you."

Minseok's eyes widened.

"Thank you for always taking care of us," the boy continued. "You're a good father."

"I... I love you too, Jihoon."

"Do you love me, Mr. Minseok?" Jiwoo asked, doing a little spin, her little pink skirt flying out a little bit.

"Of course I do, Jiwoo."

"This situation is so adorable," Joonmyeon whispered. Minseok rolled his eyes.

"I'm here," Baekhyun sang into the earpiece. Everyone exited at once and filed into the van.

------------

Luhan's eyelids drooped with sleep. Crying always made him tired later. He wanted to sleep, but he didn't want to miss Sehun waking up, and he didn't want to sleep knowing Sehun might not be alive when he woke up. Goddammit, Luhan, stop.

He'd sat through the surgery that took the bullets out and watched him be stitched up, pulled back together with a string and a needle. He saw the way they hooked up the machines to his body, supplying oxygen and monitoring his heart. Speaking of, the heart monitor was still beeping regularly, so Sehun was alive. For now.

Goddammit.

Everyone had gotten back hours ago, insisting Luhan needed food and rest, but he refused to leave. It was well into the night and the nurse came in regularly to check that everything was okay.

He held Sehun's hand, reminding himself that it was warm, he was alive. Is alive. Will live. He played with Sehun's hand, kissing it, tracing little hearts on his palm, holding it, whatever calmed him down.

The nurse came in, checked the systems, checked Sehun's pulse, and left. She wouldn't be back for another fifteen minutes, at least.

Luhan knew he shouldn't, but he ran his fingers along Sehun's soft lips, hoping he'd be able to kiss them again while they were still warm.

They're warm now.

Breaking every hospital regulation and aware of it, Luhan bent over Sehun's body, placing a gentle kiss on his lips, his cheek, his forehead. He ran his fingers along the bandage on Sehun's cheek, wishing Sehun could feel it. Even when he was unconscious, Sehun was still beautiful.

They'd wiped down his forehead so there was no longer sweat on it. His light brown hair that was a little bit too long covered his eyes, and Luhan couldn't help but brush the hair off of his face, smiling slightly. The smile quickly turned from a happy one to a sad one as tears began to rush down his cheeks again. He planted another kiss on Sehun's lips as a teardrop fell on his boyfriend's cheek. He wiped it away, but didn't bother wiping his own away. He sat back down and held Sehun's hand, letting his tears dry on his face.

"You should probably go to the bathroom and wash up," the nurse said when she came back. "He wouldn't want to see you in this condition when he wakes up."

Luhan looked upset for a second, then stood up and dismissed himself to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror. His eyes were puffy and red, his nose runny, his face covered in trails of tears. He sighed and used the toilet, then washed his face.

"He'll be fine, Luhan," he whispered as he looked in the mirror before he left to return to the room.

The nurse was still in there, checking everything. The heart monitor was beeping steadily.

Then it leveled out.

Luhan's eyes widened in panic.

No. No, there's no way he's dead. He can't be dead. There is absolutely no way he's dead. He can't have died. This isn't right. There is no way he died, goddammit, there is no way he's dead. Kris was going through worse when he got hospitalized the first time. He got through it. He was fine. Sehun is fine. Sehun has to be fine.

"I'm sorry," the nurse said, shaking her head.

"No..." Luhan whispered. He can't be dead. There is no way he's dead, goddammit. He can't be... He's... He's dead. He's... Dead. Sehun is dead.

But Luhan couldn't accept the reality.

There's no way he's dead. He can't be dead. That's impossible.

But. He's dead.

"I accidentally hit a button. He's fine," she finished as she switched a setting and it showed his heart beating normally.

Luhan fell against the wall and sighed, sliding down to the floor next to Sehun's bed. He reached out and grabbed Sehun's hand again, lacing their fingers together. He listened to the pulse of Sehun's heartbeat and let his head droop.

Then he felt Sehun's fingers start to move and hopped up, standing right next to the bed. Sehun's hands moved more and he went to rub his eye with the hand that wasn't being held.

His eyelids fluttered open and the first thing he saw was Luhan, smiling, tears in his eyes.

"Sehun..."

Sehun sat up immediately, ignoring the pain in his shoulder to embrace Luhan. His arms wound around Luhan's back, pulling him so close that Luhan almost fell on top of him on the bed. Not that he would have minded. Luhan cried softly into his uninjured shoulder, whispering about how he was so glad that Sehun was okay.

"Luhan..." Sehun's whisper was filled with emotions and a few tears dripped down his face. "I love you so, so much."

"I love you too, Sehun. So, so much."

(A/N: Have you figured out how much I love Hunhan yet? HAVE YOU? I am weak for Hunhan. It seems like a lot of you readers are really, really big on Baekyeol. I love it too, don't worry, I'm just not quite as weak for it as I am for Hunhan. Anyways. How many of you were scared this chapter? Heh. Heheheh. HEHEHEH. I'm happier today than usual, so that's good. I hope you liked this chapter. I liked writing it, actually. And yay, happy reunion! The twins are going to be adorable. And don't worry, Minyoung will totally end up becoming a side character that works the front desk and will probably double as a spy or something. I don't know yet. I really hope you guys don't mind all the side characters. I don't think I'll add any more, but if you guys really don't like the side characters, then I guarantee I won't add any more. I just like the deepening of the plot that I can add with them. Send a deeper message. Signify the importance of very different people in similar situations and how they'll all work together to achieve success. The basic things that people like to pass off as important, but actually making them important instead of a mentioned conept. Thank you all for reading!)

Chapter 8: I knew you wouldn't tear Hunhan apart. That's just inhumane. When she said she pressed a button I was like," giiirrrrlllllll you almost felt the Luhan wrath." I'm sure if Sehun did die one out of three things would happen: he would become bat crazy, ing suicidal, or depressed as hell. Because him being straight up alright is not an option. We just need to get Minyoung a gf and we're good to go and everyone's happy.
