Hidden Love
Journey“Jay…” Chaerin kept knocking the door while calling her son’s name
“I’m tired, Ma. Please, leave me alone” Jay answered from his room. He laid his body on the bed.
It was true…
Yeah, he was really tired. But not his body…
“Jay, baby… just 10 minutes” Chaerin insisted. Jay sighed in frustration as he knew what topic his mother would talk to him
“Ma… really… if that’s about him, don’t waste your time. I’ll never change my decision” Jay said stubbornly
Chaerin sighed too. Yeah…, she knew her son well and don’t call him Jay if he wasn’t stubborn.
“Can I come in?” Chaerin asked again, softly. Inside his room, Jay cringed. That was his weak point: His Mom. Lazily, he pulled the blanket to covered his body
Chaerin didn’t hear any ‘yes’ or ‘no’. So, she decided to pulled the door knob and found it unlocked. As the door opened, she saw her beloved son curled his body inside the thick blanket
Slowly, she walked to Jay’s bed and sat down on it
“Jay…” she called her son smoothly. Jay didn’t budge even a bit
“Jay, this is serious…” Chaerin said with such a deep and serious tone. Inside his blanket, the son realized that this was really ‘serious’ by the way Chaerin talked. Slowly he pulled down the blanket and showed his face
“Let’s go back to Seoul…”The mother continued. Jay stayed silence for a moment before slowly, he sat up on his bed
“Do you love him that much, Ma?” He looked down, asked his mom almost inaudibly, but Chaerin could hear it clearly.
The still-so-pretty mother looked at her only son
“It’s not about me, Jay. But you…” Chaerin held Jay’s face softly
“That’s not the answer of my question…” Jay grumbled, and then looked to his Mom’s eyes straightly. “Do you still love him?”
Chaerin looked deep into her son’s eyes and instantly reminded her on the boy’s father. She smiled slightly
“No” Chaerin answered
Jay examined his mom’s expression, looked deep into her soul by those beautiful feline eyes. And the boy sighed again
“You lie” he mumbled and looked away
Chaerin extended her hands to reached Jay’s
“I told you before, it’s not about me. But you…” She said softly
“But I don’t care about him, Ma. In fact, in hate him!” Jay started to show his emotion. His cracked voice showed the painful state inside
Chaerin saw that, the pain trough the boy’s eyes. She knew how hurt her son was
“If you don’t love him anymore, why do you insist to go back and see him?” Jay asked with his stern voice, still looked away for he wanted to hide his emotion. “You’re still thinking about him after all this time…” He mumbled
“Jay, listen…” Chaerin squeezed Jay’s hand. But the boy kept avoiding her gaze. “I don’t think about him. I just think about you. I don’t want you to regret when it’s too late already” She explained softly
“I won’t” The boy insisted
Chaerin didn’t give up and kept persuading her son. “He is dying, Jay…”
“I don’t want to see him” Jay cut his mother’s words
“He wants to see you”
“I don’t want to see him” Jay said stubbornly. He looked into his mom and couldn’t hide his hurtful eyes
Chaerin felt the pain in her heart too. But she had to hide it, or else Jay would decline more
“Jay…. I understand what you feel….” Chaerin spoke softly, caressed Jay’s face. “I just don’t want to see you regret in case something bad really happened” Chaerin tried hard to swallowed the lump in . “I know you’re still mad at him, but it doesn’t mean that you hate him, Baby….”
Jay closed his eyes, felt his lungs became heavier. His mind automatically recalled the fact he found when he was 7. The fact that changed his hope, and his feeling toward his so called dad
“Think about this clearly. I’ll go back to Seoul tomorrow at 11 a.m. if you decided to go with me, prepare your things” Chaerin said before he stood up and left her son’s room
Jay watched his mom left his room. As his mom closed the door, he couldn’t hold his tears anymore
“I’ll be late, Ma. Don’t wait up for me” Jay said as he kissed his mother’s check
Chaerin who was still busy with her luggage looked at her watch
“Where are you gonna go? It’s 7.pm and we have long flight tomorrow. Well…, at least your Mama will go” Chaerin asked
“Just meet a friend, Ma…. Don’t worry, I’ll go home before 11” Jay said
“Oh.., meet my future daughter-in-law?” Chaerin now blushed son
“Ma…., please….” Jay whined
“Fine… just don’t be too late” Chaerin smiled and Jay walked to the main door. But then Chaerin called him. “Jay…, will you go with me?” She asked
Jay stood still for a while. “I’ll decide it after I go home, Ma” He said and left
Jay rode his bicycle through the night and stopped in a coffee shop. He entered the coffee shop and sat on the corner, his favorite spot
“Well, let me guest…” A waitress came to his table
“Oh, Hi Kate” Jay smiled as he saw the friendly waitress
“You come here to see her?” Kate wiggled her eyebrows. The lady in the beginning of her 40s smiled widely, teased the blushed boy
“Uhm.., yeah… but I want to eat some carbonara too” Jay grinned.
“Fine. I’ll bring your favorite carbonara…, and your favorite waitress” She winked before left the smiling boy. As Kate left, Jay took his ipad and played his favorite game
“Here your Carbonara and iced tea” A brown haired girl came with his food. As he heard the girl’s voice, he looked up and smiled widely
“Thank you…” he gave his cute face
“You’re welcome” the girl answered and turned around but Jay called her before she left
“Hey… where are you gonna go?” Jay sulked
“Work. I’m on my working hour now…” She said flatly
“Tsk…. It’s not like this coffee shop belongs to someone else…” Jay grumbled and the girls chuckled at his childish expression. She turned around again and walked to Jay, sat down in front of her
“You’re right that this coffee shop belongs to my Mom. But as the future owner, I should learn how to run this place well” She took a sip of Jay’s iced tea
“I see…, but now…, can we just go out for a moment?” Jay asked. The girl somehow sensed something wrong on Jay
“Are you ok?” She asked in concern
“Vann…”
“Hmm?”
“Let’s go out… just an hour…” Jay said as he looked into the girl’s eyes
“Fine… wait a moment, I’ll get change first” she said and left Jay to get change. Minutes later, she came againwith her simple jeans and cardigan
“Let’s go” She grabbed Jay’s hand and walked together, exited the coffee shop. The two teenagers then got to Jay’s bicycle and rode it to a small park not so far from the coffee shop. They walked and then sat down below an oak tree
“The sky is so clear tonight…” Jay smiled as he looked up to the sky. On the other hand, the petite girl beside him just watched him.
“What’s bothering you?” She asked softly. She knew Jay so well and could sense that he was bothered by something. Jay fell in silence by the girl’s question
“Wanna share?” She asked again and Jay turned his face to see her
“Vannah…” he called softly
“Hmm?”
Jay then leaned his head on the girl’s shoulder. She always brought the peace into Jay’s heart…, like his Mom…
“My head is hurt…” He mumbled, closed his eyes. The girl named Savannah raised her hand to brushed Jay’s hair
“What’s hurting your head, hu
