End

Oblivious Roommate

"I'm just so, so tired of what we've become. Now I understand how love can make you both the happiest and saddest person on earth." Minseok said as tears fell endlessly on his chubby, swollen cheeks. Yixing looked at him pitifully and rubbed his back for support.

Yixing's day off was spent to comfort his sad friend, minseok who just recently went through a tragic break up. It's not the first time nor will it be the last, yixing knows it himself. But he just supports his friend during his downfall and whisper soothing words to the elder.

It was so painful to love someone who didn't love you back.

-

"Yixing, do you mind taking a picture of me beside this tree. Oh, make sure it's a full shot!"

With a click and a snap, the picture was taken and it ended up great, just like any other picture that has minseok in it. 'Beautiful', yixing muttered.

"What's that?" Minseok sworn he could have heard yixing complimenting him but before he could return the flattery, yixing stumbled out a reply.

"Dreadful. Your picture was dreadful." It earned yixing a smack in the head before both of them laughed it off like it was nothing.

That night, both of them couldn't even close their eyes without the images of each other poofing in their heads.. Frustrated because of the restless sleep, they ate breakfast in silence.

"You look horrible." Yixing sarcastically complimented.

"I hate you." Minseok replied before munching off a bread. Yixing turned at the opposite direction so minseok couldn't see the unshed tears he had in his eyes.

Maybe they haven't tried. Maybe fate just didn't do it's magic yet. Maybe yixing and minseok could have their happy ending.

"I think I'm in love with Luhan." Yixing almost spluttered out his drink as he stuttered out a reply.

"What? Repeat." It took him a lot of effort to even sound calm and not bothered when his heart was doing weird somersaults.

"He confessed and I accepted. You know how kind he is right? How could I not? Someone as perfect as him could love an undeserving person like me. How could I reject?" Minseok's eyes missed the sadness and hollowness that suddenly appeared on yixing's. A notification popped out on the elder's phone and he smiled while sending a reply back.

"Gotta go. I'll be back for dinner. You're cooking right? Cover up for me if my lecturer calls, I haven't sent my paper yet and it's due a few days ago."

"Sure. That's what roommates are for." A quick wave and a smile, minseok bolted out the door.

Yixing's eyes felt so heavy and he felt so lifeless. How one moment, everything was so perfect, like watching a sunset on a beach. And how one other moment, every perfection comes crashing down in full speed like a tidal wave crashing in.

That's what yixing will ever be. He's just a roommate. Someone who would cover up for your assignments, someone who does the chores when you're too tired, someone who cooks when you're hungry and someone who you could take advantage of without guilt.

Comparing him to a wife wouldn't be too different. They had many similarities in chores and whatnot. But atleast for any other wife, the feelings were mutual.

Yixing cooked dinner while tormenting himself with thoughts of minseok and luhan. What were they doing? Were they kissing? Were they doing things that yixing hopes for every night?

Midnight, and minseok wasn't home yet. Yixing was pacing across their shared apartment, worrying. The food was cold now and so was yixing's whole trembling body. He couldn't afford to have something bad happen to his loved one.

Just then, the door knob turned and a stumbling minseok came barging in. Yixing let out a sigh of relief before nearing the man.

"I was worried. It's not too late for dinner. Let's eat." Yixing hasn't ate even a pinch of salt while waiting for minseok. It was much more happier when you're eating together with the person you love.  By the time he reached minseok, the man looked at him sadly.

"I'm not hungry. I ate at luhan's." No apologies, no remorse, no guilt. Love was eating yixing alive and he's barely making it through.

"But you look tired. I'll heat it up." He proceeded to take minseok's hands in his but was pushed harshly against the wall.

"Leave me alone. You're not my wife so stop acting like one!" Minseok yelled in rage before slamming his bedroom door and locking it in the process.

Yixing fell to his knees, emptiness crawled within him. He found himself gasping for air and the sunset was already gone. All that's left is just the darkness the night brought and the sound of waves greeting the currents running through each soul.

Minseok woke up with a groan. He was too wasted and he couldn't recall much of what happened. He only remembered the incident with luhan last night and his face fell.

"What do you mean? You don't love me?" Luhan asked confused and hurt. Minseok looked at him for forgiveness.

"I'm sorry. I have a person at home who cooks, helps and cares for me like a concern wife waiting for her husband to get back from an exhausting day of work. Even if we're roommates and I've been in love with him from the first time I laid my eyes on him, I was too much of a coward to tell him my feelings." The smaller answered truthfully. Because to him, he wasn't ashamed of his feelings and luhan deserved to know the truth.

"But he doesn't love you, does he?" The younger asked sadly. "Just like the way you don't love me?" He couldn't help adding. Minseok smiled and shook his head slowly.

"He doesn't need to. Although I wish he saw me more than just a roommate." Luhan nodded in acknowledgement before showing the door to minseok. As sad as he was, he still felt pity for the elder.

On minseok's way back home. He struggled with thoughts of his confession. Would yixing accept him? Would he find him disgusting? He couldn't help but feel like he's choking on his own breathing.

He went for a drink and it ended up helping his mind a little. He became braver to confess so he drank and drank until his head went numb.

Therefore, minseok was back to his bed. Memories of last night completely recalled except for his words to yixing who kept on waiting for him to come home.

"Yixing? You there?" Minseok searched every inch of the apartment but the said name wasn't found. He couldn't help but feel worried incase something bad happened to him. Possible thoughts filled his brain and he shuddered.

He kept on searching and searching but to no avail.

Minseok gave up and went to the rooftop, the spot where he enjoyed the most. Being the most favorite place to him, it stood out when compared to appearance. Not because of the whole building, but because of the view it withheld. The magnificent skyscrapers and the image of small tiny people, almost like ants, walking and shoving against each other. He smiled, amazed by the view once again. This place was home to him. He couldn't help but think of yixing again. It would be so much more better with him here.

Minseok sighed and looked below once more at the people, only to see a strange looking figure. Squinting his eyes really hard, he caught glimpses of the fractured body, the bizzare looking structure and his world crumbles.

The sound of ambulance sirens filled the whole city, swallowing every sound near it, including minseok's broken sobs of pure agony and screams of never ending pain.

What was more painful than having the person you love, not loving you back was not knowing how he actually felt beforehand.

Chapter 1: Hey author-nim!
This story was pretty good! I liked it, even though I started to cry at the end.
It was a little confusing near the start, but over all it was well written!
Fighting!
