The Day That Changed Everything

"Hey" Tao said once they both had reached each other ''So you said that you needed to talk to me about something?"

"Yes but I think we should wait till we get to our special place." Luhan told Tao.

"Ok" Tao said as they both started to walk towards their special place.

________________________________________________________________________

Once they got to the forest 30 minutes from the school they entered and continued straight, right, left, and then they took another right and they were finally there. Tao looked up to see a huge oak tree with an old blue tree house. The tree house looked as thought it was startilng to fall apart and all of the paint that had been covering the small house in the tree was peeling off in several places revleeling the wood that had been used to build the precious house. They both made thier way over to the rope ladder that lead up to the entrence of the house. Luhan decided that he ws going to go up first and he made his way up the ladder.Tao stared at the rope ladder recalling how both of them used to come here everyday to play and let their imagination run loose as they ran around in the surrounding forrest. This house ment a lot to both of them and it kind of hurt Tao to see it in such a sorry state.

"Are you coming up or are you just going to stand there staring at the ladder?" Luhan asked poking his head out through one of the houses many windows.

"Yeah" Tao said clearly still think about their time spent here. When suddenly he remembered how his dad went throught so much trouble to build it for them to be allowed to play in the house. Well that was before his dad changed.

Once Tao made his way up the ladderand in trought the door that was now to small for the teenager. He then looked around the house and saw the rug that his mother had made for the house, a table that had been made from a tree that had fallen during a storm, and Two chairs custom made for Tao and Luhan when they were little. Tao smilled at all of the happy memories that flooded this thoughts as he looked around the tree house. Luhan coughed to get Tao's attention. Tao saw that Luhan had now taken a seet in one of the wooden chairs which was now way to small. Tao made his way over and followed the older's lead and took a seat.

"Um...." Luhan said obviouslynot knowing where to start. He took a deep breath and said what needed to be said " You might find it kind of weird that I am asking you this when it happened such a long time ago, but do you think that you could tell everything that you can remember about your father's ... well you know...disaperance."

Tao was taken aback at the sudden request was making. The fact that his best friend had asked hi to talk about possibly one of his most painfull memorise out of the blue without giving him any time to really prepare himself really hurt him and sort of made him fell betrayed.

"Please." Luhan pleaded. "I know that you will have to bring up some very painfull memories and I understand if you do not want to, but it is very important." Tao could see from Luhan's eyes that he ment every word that he was saying and that he truly felt sorry for asking his best friend to do such a painfull thing.

"Okay, I will tell you" Tao spoke in a very low tone bearly audiable to his best friend sitting right next to him. He then raised his voice a little and began to speak. "When I was little" Tao began to tell backstory that he had never told anyone before "I would always wait for my dad to come home at 8:00 every night. No matter how much work he had he would always manage to get home by 8. Once he got home we would play and have fun together and he would latter tuck me into bed to go to sleep. My mom would sometimes get mad at my dad because she was always saying thatwhenever he was home he always with me and he did not really spend any time with my mother, and my dad would always answer "Don't worry there will be a day when I will have less work to worry about and I won't have to worry about anyone finding out what I am doing. And from the looks of it that day is going to come very soon I only need 6 more for the project to trully work." The only thing that ever changed from his response was the numbers, they would always keep getting lower. My mom would look at my dad with eyes that said "Don't say that in front of Tao." i thought about asking  what he meant buy that but I decided not to because I could tell that they did not want me to know. One day I was waiting for my dad to come home, I sat by the door like I always did, but the door did not open. I turned and looked at my mom who was really worried. I remember how her eybrows knited together(not really sure if that makes any sence) and she looked like she was about to cry, but then remembered that I was there and she did not want to scare me. We both waited for an hour by the door but he still had not arrived. I fell asleep shortly after that hour waiting had passed. I woke up to the sound of door closing. I jumped off the couch that me mom must have put me on and I started to search the house to see if my father had come home yet. I finally found them in the kitchen. I was about to run in and hug my dad but I saw that him and mom were talking about something that seemed to be very serious. I stayed very quiet and I heard my dad say "Someone found our place, they trashed the whole place luckaly the 'expiriments' were not ther or they would have probably taken them. We decided it would be better to return all of them to their parents." He paused and looked at my mom and she said "All of them?" She said as tears welled up in her eyes. "No" he gently said as he put a hand of her shoulder "don't worry I would never get rid of him" That  was when I decided that I would leave because I was getting kind of scared with what they were saying even thought I did not really understand anything. The next day I thought about what they had been talking about the whole entire day. Even at school all I could think about was what that conversation meant and for some reason the school day seemed to have passed by exremely fast. I did not even remember having gotten up from my chair in my first class. By 8 my dad was home with a worried expression on his face and as soon as he saw me he ran to the kitchen and came back a few minutes latter with a glass of water. He then handed me the glass of water and I looked at it confused with why he had handed me a glass of water. He then said "Drink this" nothing else just those two words and that made me really nervouse.I replied with saying "But Daddy I am not thirsty." I complained to him thinking it was no big deal it was just a glass of water, but then he did something that I did not expect him to do. "I said drink it" he souted wich made me jump. Teriffied of getting yelled at again I reached over and drank some of the water somewhat cautiously. The water tasted bitter and really bad and I stopped halfway thought the glass "Ewww this tastes really bad" I said and he replied with "Drink all of it..........please." my father said in a very pleading tone that I had never heard him use before. I then followed my dad's orders and finished drinking the bittter liquid. I then saw my mom staring at my dad in disbelif "What did you give him?" she shouted at my dad demanding to know what her only son had just drank. "It's ok it is only going to make him stronger but keep his abilities hidden ." I then started to feel weird and I lost the feeling in my legs causing me to fall to the ground and my vision was also startiong to get very blurry. Just before I passed out I saw my mom slap my dad very hard andyell at him to leave and never come back if he was going to hurt me. When I woke up I was in my bed and my mom walked in a yelled "Oh thank goodness you are ok" as she rushed to my side. A couple of days passed and dad kept on coming in way latter than he would always have come, One day he just simply did not come home.We were both worried and sad but then my mom said "Tao , my panda why don't we go to the park." "Okay" I said with a smile on my face knowing that she was just trying to cheer me up. We got into the car and were driving on the road when a car from two lanes away came rolling over. Spare pieces were flying every where and the car kept getting closer and closer with no clear sign of stopping. "If nothing comes in between us and that car we are going to die." I thought to myself in a split second. "There has to be something that I can do to save both of our lives we don't deserve to die we did not do anything to deserve this." At this time I looked at my mom's face and her eyes widened as she saw the car hurdling towards us, I then realized that everything was happening in slow motion. I looked back at the car and it was still only one lane away. I thought this is a chance to get out and still live. I quikly took of my seat belt and leaned over so that I was at my mom's seat. I quickly undid her seat belt and she was very slowly turning her head towards me. I climbed over the thing in the middle of the two front seats (sorry I don't know what it is called)and opened the driver's side front door. "Shoot the car is getting really close!" I shouted as I grabed my mom and propelled us out of the car by pushing off of the seat with all of my strength. As we were falling through the air I looked back and saw the car thet had been tumbling towards us collide with our car that we had been in only seconds ago. Then I felt a sharp pain spreading through by back as we hit the pavement, I hit the pavement firts since I was the one caring my mom, and instantly time turned back to normal. We heard the sound of both cars crashing into each other and becoming nothing but scraps of metal that used to have a shape. My mom got up as fast as she could realizing that she had landed on top of me. I looked up at her as my vision wavered and I saw something that still pains me till this day. The expresion on her face was not that she was extremely worried about her only son who was laying on the floor really hurt, or that she was really happy that we were both safe and alive. No. When I looked up at her face I could see it in every muscle of her face and in her beautiful blue eyes. She was scared of me. I was a monster. I had no idea how I had managed to save us or why the car had suddenly moved very slowly but I did know that I saved us and she should be happy. My vision blured again and I thought why is this happening I did everything right I saved her, we can keep on living...so why? I was no longer feeling the pain from my back because a new more powerfull feeling had now overpowered it. It was my heart, it hurt so bad. Why doesen't she love me, why isn't she happy, am I really a monster. I felt tears run down my face as my mom backed away slowly fear and disbelief evident on her face. I could very faintly hear sirens in the distence as my vision blured again but this time it went completly balck. When I opened my eyes I saw a really bright light hit my eyes and I imediatly closed them. After a while I slowly opened them aand closed them repetitivley until I could finally see everything. I was in a completely white room, the walls, floor, ceeling, vases tables, I mean everything was white there was not a single color anywhere in the room. I then tried to sit up on my bsd but I imediatly felt a sharp pain from my back. "Oh right the fall" I thought to myself. A lady then walked over to me, I can't really remember what she looked like though. She told not to move because my back was very badly injured. "Where is my mom?" I asked her wondering if my mom had even come to see my at what was most likely a hospital. "She is in the waiting room she did not want to see you, I am sorry." As I heard each word leave the frown on my face deepened and my heart felt heavier. "You have to drink this to make your back feel beter thought." She told my as she handed me a glass with a clear liquid in it. "What is it?" I asked as I took the glass from her hand. "It is just medicine." She told me with a smile on her face, which I found really creepy. "Okay" I said as I brought the cup up to my mouth and drank half of the medicine in one gulp. I instantly racognized the taste of the liquid. "NO IT CAN'T BE" I practically shouted in my head. "Is it really the same thing that my dad made my drink" I said to myself as my vision slowly became black and the last thing I saw was the nurse smiling at me. I was in the hospital for about a week and eveyday the nurse would give me that strange liquid to drink and they would take me to play with a boy who was about 8, I was 6 at the time, and his name was Yixing. When I was finally released my mom came and checked me out of the hospital. I was so happy to see her but she didn't even do so much as turn and look at me. We had to go  home on a taxi since we still had no car due to the accident. We got home and my mom just went into the house leaving the door open for me to go inside and she headed upstairs without a word, still not even sparing me a glance. I quickly clossed the door and ran up the stairs to see were she was going. I reached the top of the stairs just in time to see her close the door and a click was heard almost imidiatly after she entered her room. I even now have not seen my mom since that day. She always comes out of her room when I am not at home just to avoid seeing me." I said as I sobbed from having brought up all of the painfull memorise that I had tried so hard to forget.

Luhan say that he had made his best friend cry and he got off of the chair that he had been sitting on and walked over to Tao and let him use his sholder to cry out his pain. Luhan was very surprised to hear about the story of Tao's past because he had never heard it for he became friends with Tao after his father had dissapeared from his life but he decided it was more important to foccus on what he needed to tell his best friend.

"I am so sorry for bringing this up but do you for any chance have a picture of your dad?"

"Um.....yes. Why?" Tao asked after having calmed down.

"Can I see it, if you have it with you off course." Luhan asked, he had only ever seen Tao's father once before. Tao nodded as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small picture he had of his dad. He looked at it for a bit hesitating before handing it over to his best friend to look at.

"Thank you" Luhan said as he pulled out his phone from his pocket and looked through it for something. Tao wited patiently for his friend to finish looking through his phone. "Why does he want to see a picture of my dad and why is he bringing up my dad he hasen't brought him up since when we first became friends?" Tao spoke to himself very curious as to Luhan's motives for doing this.

"Why do you need a picture of my dad?" Tao asked after thinking weather or not to voice out his thoughts or not.

"Um..well" Luhan spoke as he looked back and fourth between his phone and the picture of Tao's dad. He then looked up at Tao and said to him.

"I don't wan't to give you any false hope or anything but I think that I saw your dad yesterday." Luhan said while looking at Tao waiting to see how he would react to the bizare news. Tao felt his heart beat faster and faster and he could not belive what he was hearing.

"Really? Wher? When? At what time?" Tao blurted out one question after another bearly giving Luhan a chance to answer his question.

"Again I am not really sure if it really was him or not but if it was then I saw him at the store near thatabandoned factory. I saw him at around 7.If it was really him."Luhan answered making sure to stress the fact he it might not have really been his father that he saw by the factory.

"Can you write that all down for me?" Tao asked as he search his pockets for a pice of paper until he found one and haded it to Luhan shortly after finding a pencil and also handed it over.

"Okay there you go but keep in mind that it might not be him." He said as he handed the paper over to the overexited Tao.

"Yeah" Tao said trying to sound serious to reasure Luhan that he understood but he could not wipe the smile off of his face. Then the two boys heard a loud noise.

"Ring Ring."

:"Oh I think that is my phone!" Tao responded as he reached into his pocket and took his phone out quikly answering it.

"Hello?" Tao said after having looked at the number for a bit not having recognized the number.

"Helo master Tao." The lady on the other end said. Tao was very confused as to how Mrs. Honim had gotten his cell phone number but pushed the thought away when she started to speak again.

"You need to come home now." Mrs. Honim said over the phone to Tao.

"Why?" Tao asked confused with why he would need to go home.

"Your mother has fainted." She told him and Tao was extremely surprised and worried with the news.
