[prologue I] The Shoeshine Boy
천년가도 (Even If A Thousand Years Pass)❀
T here's a myth of forbidden love.
H ere is where it originated and bloomed like no other.
E ver heard of that kingdom where rich and poor need permission just to know one another?
S ituated at the far end is the lower rank society,
H ard life they live to earn, with desire to thrive,
O nce awhile some die of fatigue or hunger,
E ach day is a battle to survive,
S ome are lucky to move to a better shelter,
H owever not all is gloom and despair,
I n every darkness there is light.
N ever give up in hopes and dreams that fills your air,
E ven if your future seems bleak and nothing seems to be going right.
"B eing poor does not make you an animal or alien, so what's the fuss?,"
O ne boy seems to not be affected by his surrounding,
Y ou'll rarely find him in the state of brooding.

K nown as the friendly shoeshine boy in Gwonhan Kingdom,
I n spite of poverty, lamenting, he does seldom,
M aybe it's for his lack of wisdom.
"H yungjun-ah, wake up or you'll be late,"
"Y es, omma," he answers to the younger lady, though he'd rather wait,
U nder the blanket, he'd like to sleep till eight,
N evertheless he knows, his naggy little sister will not tolerate,
G rudgingly he wakes up, ready to face a new day, a new fate.
J ust as he's about to cross the usually crowd filled street,
U nusually, he finds a strange golden coin beneath a dirty sheet,
'N ice,' he thinks, must be his lucky day to get such treat.
