7 days to go …

***Jonghyun’s POV***

I walked straight home, the guilt weighing down on my shoulders after just leaving her sobbing on her bed. I didn’t want to hurt her but I thought that it’d be easier for me to leave (and for her to leave me) if I distanced myself before d-day came around.

As I passed the entrance hall, I heard something from the office or rather, someone. My father had returned, it must have been at least three months since he’d been home, last time we’d spoken he’d informed me of some big news that he would be announcing when he returned.

I stumbled into the office, expecting to find him slumped next to his desk, weary-looking, surrounded by paper work that he had to catch up on. Instead I saw him dressed in a suit, sat on a chair beside a table with two guests – they were both female and one head turned towards me as I walked in. It was a girl my age – she was beautiful, not a beautiful as Mi, but beautiful nonetheless – and she smiled at me. I bowed and sat beside my father, opposite them, as he gestured for me to take a seat. The other guest was an older woman, most likely her mother by the similarities in appearance.

“This is my son, Jonghyun” he announced to the guests. Then he turned to me:

“And this” he nodded in the younger girl’s direction, “is Kwon Yuri” I greeted her politely but my father was not yet finished … “she is to be your wife”.

I froze. Did he really just say that ? Had he really arranged a marriage for me ? Surely not … surely that didn’t actually happen in real life.

By the way Yuri looked nervous and kept fiddling with the cloth that was laid over the table, what I’d heard was true – I hadn’t misheard

The woman beside her introduced her as Yuri’s mother and explained how the marriage would be a hugely successful and beneficial deal between both companies.

“My daughter will be attending the same school as you in America, Jonghyun. I hope that you two will become close before the marriage” she smiled reassuringly. I zoned out as my father and soon-to-be mother-in-law discussed some more of the details and my thoughts, as usual, drifted to Mi …

It all came crashing down at that moment, the moment I remembered Mi. What would she say ? She was angry enough about the fact that I was leaving ! How would she react to my marriage ?! I loved her - how could I abandon her. But then … wasn’t I already doing that by leaving for America ? I was so confused – everything was happening at once and I didn’t want it to – I didn’t want to study abroad and I didn’t want to get married to anyone unless it was Mi. She was my only exception.

I stood suddenly … my chair making an awful screeching sound against the floor. Everyone turned to look at me but I just apologised, bid goodbye and left the office to go to my room.

About an hour later, I heard my father’s voice in the hallway and the sounds of the front door closing then a car leaving the driveway. And then … footsteps climbing the stairs and my door swinging open.

“What do you think you’re doing Jonghyun ?” My father said – his voice was angry, agitated.

“I’m sorry, father, how could you spring this on me without warning ? I don’t want to get married to someone I don’t love” I replied confidently – I was definitely going to stand up for myself.

“Who you love ? You are fortunate enough to have been left this company ! WHY ARE YOU SO UNWILLING TO MAKE SACRIFICES LIKE I HAVE MADE. LIKE YOUR MOTHER HAS MADE.” My father shouted. He barely ever raised his voice at me and I was shocked – his usual calm exterior was completely shattered. If he wasn’t going to hold back – neither was I.

“YOUR MISSING ONE PERSON ... FATHER ! YOUR MISSING MY SISTER, YOUR DAUGHTER – WE ALL PRETEND THAT INCIDENT WAS AN ACCIDENT BUT IT WASN’T. IT WAS YOUR FAULT. IF YOU HADN’T FORCED HER INTO IT – IF YOU HADN’T THREATHENED TO DISOWN HER. WAS WHAT HAPPENED TO JU-AH NOT ENOUGH ? WASN’T IT ENOUGH FOR YOU ? WASN’T IT ? WASN-”

My father slapped me hard across the face. My neck snapped to the side and I reached my hand up to my cheek which was burning red from the hit. Only then did I notice how wet my face was – the tears had soaked my cheeks; the memories were so painful to handle.  He’d never ever raised his hand to me before – not to anyone that he had ever admitted.

“Don’t ever mention her name in this house again. You will go to America. You will marry Yuri. And you will take over this company.” He harshly whispered and stormed out of the room leaving me stood alone in the room.

As my eyes followed him out the room, I saw my mother sat on the ground sobbing a few meters away from my bedroom door, obviously having overhead our argument. I approached her slowly and wrapped my arms around her as she cried. I could hear her whispering between sobs …

“Su-Ah … Su-Ah …”

Too many tears had been shed today…

I don't know about you but that was intense to write ! So much has happened ^^ Phew ....

I'm sorry but I may only be able to update once for the rest of the week because I have exams all day every day for the rest of the week ^^ Wish me luck ~~

If anyone was wondering, Kwon Yuri looks like Yuri from Girls generation but her personality won't be the same just her name and appearance to make it easier to visualise. If you don't know her, this is what she looks like:

So .... Jonghyun is getting married ?!?! And what happened to Su-Ah ??
